The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should say that I am better than Yunus (i.e. Jonah)." Musadded added, "Jonah bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ زَادَ مُسَدَّدٌ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "No slave (of Allah) should say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta." So the Prophet mentioned his father's name with his name.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "None should say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "None has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever says that I am better than Jonah bin Matta, is a liar."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فَقَدْ كَذَبَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the rights to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Nobody has the right to be better than (Jonah) bin Matta."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا مِنِ ابْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "He who says that I am better than Jonah bin Matta, tells a lie.'

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فَقَدْ كَذَبَ

The Prophet ﷺ said that his Lord said: "It does not befit a slave that he should say that he is better than Jonah (Yunus) bin Matta.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيمَا يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ رَبِّهِ قَالَ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

The son of the uncle of your Prophet ﷺ, i. e. Ibn Abbas, reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: It is not meet for a servant that he should say: I am better than Yunus b. Matta (and this Matta) is the name of his father.

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

It is not fitting for a prophet to say : I am better than Jonah son of matta.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should say that I am superior to Yunus bin Matta."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not befitting for a prophet to say that he is better than Yunus ibn Matta." Abu Abdur Rahman reported it and Haroon ibn Ma'roof narrated a similar hadith.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْيَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ مِثْلَهُ

The son of the uncle of your Prophet ﷺ, i. e. Ibn Abbas, reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: It is not meet for a servant that he should say: I am better than Yunus b. Matta (and this Matta) is the name of his father. (Using translation from Muslim 2377)

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

[AI] The following is the translation:

"That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Every son of Adam commits sins, and the best of those who commit sins are those who repent. And there is none among the children of Adam except that he has committed mistakes or intends to commit a mistake, except for Yahya son of Zakariyya. And it is not appropriate for anyone to say that he is better than Yunus son of Matta."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ وَلَدِ آدَمَ إِلَّاقَدْ أَخْطَأَ أَوْ هَمَّ بِخَطِيئَةٍ لَيْسَ يَحْيَى بْنَ زَكَرِيَّا وَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no person from the offspring of Adam except that they have committed a mistake or they are planning to commit a mistake, except for Yahya (John) son of Zakariya, and it is not appropriate for anyone to say that they are better than Yunus (Jonah) son of Matta."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ وَلَدِ آدَمَ إِلا قَدْ أَخْطَأَ أَوْ هَمَّ بِخَطِيئَةٍ لَيْسَ يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا وَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "It is not appropriate for anyone to say that they are better than Yunus ibn Matta, who was attributed to his father and then committed a sin, but his Lord chose him."

Note: The Arabic phrase "ﷺ" is a religious symbol that stands for "peace be upon him" and is often added after mentioning the name of the Prophet Muhammad.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى نَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ أَصَابَ ذَنْبًا ثُمَّ اجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not appropriate for anyone to say that they are better than Yunus ibn Matta."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] Regarding the Prophetﷺ he said, "No one should consider themselves better than Yunus ibn Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] No one of you should say, "I am better than Yunus bin Matta."

لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not appropriate for anyone to say 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta'."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4669)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4631)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا مَا هُمَّ بِخَطِيئَةٍ أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ وَلَا عَمِلَهُمَا

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ إلاَّ يَلْقَى اللَّهَ قَدْ هَمَّ بِخَطِيئَةٍ أَوْ عَمِلَهَا إلاَّ يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَهِمَّ بِهَا وَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one should say that they are better in the sight of Allah than Yunus ibn Matta."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا عِنْدَ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4631)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not fitting for a prophet to say, 'I am better than Yunus ibn Matta.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا يَنْبَغِي لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "None has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4603)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

"قَال اللهُ -تَعَالى-: لا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ لِي أنْ يَقُولَ: أنَا خَيرٌ من يونسَ ابن مَتَّى".

"مَا يَنْبَغِي لنَبِيٍّ (*) أَنْ يَقولَ: إِنِّي خَيرٌ مِنْ يُونُس بْنِ متَّى".

"مَنْ قَال: أَنَا خَيرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بنِ مَتَّى فَقَد كَذَبَ".

"لا يَقُولَنَّ أحَدُكُمْ: إِنِّي خَيرٌ من يونسَ بن مَتَّى".

"لَا يَنْبَغِي لأحَدٍ أنْ يَقُولَ: أنَا خَيرٌ منْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى".

"لَا يَنْبَغي لأحَدٍ أنْ يَقُولَ: أنَا عِنْدَ الله خَير مِنْ يُونَسَ بْنِ مَتَّى".

"لَا ينبَغِي لِنَبيٍّ أنْ يَقُولَ: أنَا خَير مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى".

"عَنْ عَلِىٍّ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ ﷺ قَالَ: لَا يَنْبَغِى لأَحَدٍ، وَفِى لَفْظٍ لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ: أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى، سَبَّحَ الله فِى الظُّلُمَاتِ".
