The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to him: "O Ibn 'Abis, shall I not tell you of the best thing with which those who seek refuge with Allah may do so?" He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak.", "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind." - these two Surahs."

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ يَا ابْنَ عَابِسٍ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ أَوْ قَالَ أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا يَتَعَوَّذُ بِهِ الْمُتَعَوِّذُونَ قَالَ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ { قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ } وَ { قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ } هَاتَيْنِ السُّورَتَيْنِ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ يَا ابْنَ عَابِسٍ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا تَعَوَّذَ بِهِ الْمُتَعَوِّذُونَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ وَأَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ هَاتَيْنِ السُّورَتَيْنِ

[AI] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the two protective surahs. So he said to me, "It was said to me, so I said it to you."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ قِيلَ لِي فَقُلْتُ قَالَ أُبَيٌّ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed me that Gabriel said to him, 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak', so I said it. Then he said, 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind', so I said it. And we say what the Prophet ﷺ said."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ قَالَ لَهُ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ فَقُلْتُهَا فَقَالَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ فَقُلْتُهَا فَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ مَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ

[AI] I said to Ubayy ibn Ka'b, "Indeed, Ibn Mas'ud does not write the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) in his mushaf (copy of the Quran)." He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Gabriel said to me: "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.'" So I said it, and Gabriel said to me, 'Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.'" So I said it.' Therefore, we say what the Messenger of Allah said."

قُلْتُ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ لَا يَكْتُبُ فِي مُصْحَفِهِ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ} فَقُلْتُهَا وَقَالَ لِي {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ} فَقُلْتُهَا» فَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Shall I not tell you about the best thing that those who seek refuge recite? Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,' and say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا يَتَعَوَّذُ بِهِ الْمُتَعَوِّذُونَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Some verses were revealed to me tonight, the likes of which have never been seen: "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak." [Surat al-Falaq:1] and "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind." [Surat an-Naas:1]' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 954)

أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا ابْنَ عَامِرٍ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا تَعَوَّذَ بِهِ الْمُتَعَوِّذُونَ؟» قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, people have not sought refuge with anything similar to these two Surahs: Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak" and say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind."'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَتَعَوَّذُوا بِمِثْلِ هَاتَيْنِ السُّورَتَيْنِ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ»

"أَلا أُخْبُركَ بأَفْضَلِ ما تَعَوَّدْ به المتعوِّذون؟ قل أعودْ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ، وقل أَعوذُ بَرَبِّ النَّاس" .

"قَال لِي جبرِيلُ: "قُلْ أعُوذُ بِرب الفَلَقِ" فَقُلتُهَا، فَقَال: "قُل أعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ" فَقُلتُها".

{قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ}، و {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ}، مَا تَعَوَّذَ النَّاسُ بِأَفْضَلَ مِنْهُمَا".

"يَا ابْنَ عَائِشٍ: أَلا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأفْضَلِ مَا تَعَوَّذَ بِهِ المُتَعَوِّذونَ؟ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الفَلَقِ، وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبَ النَّاسِ. هَاتَيْنِ السُّورَتَيْنِ".

"يَا حَابِسُ: أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا تَعَوَّذَ بِهِ الْمُتَعَوِّذُونَ؟ قَلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبَ الْفَلَقِ، وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ، هُمَا الْمُعَوِّذَتَانِ".
