"Shall I not tell you about the Prophet and I?" We said: "Yes." She said: "When it was my night, he came in, placed his shoes by his feet, lay down his Rida' (upper garment), and spread his Izar (lower garment) on his bed. As soon as he thought that I had gone to sleep, he put his shoes on slowly and picked up his Rida' slowly. Then he opened the door slowly, went out and shut it slowly. I put my garment over my head, covered myself and put on my Izar (lower garment), and I set out after him until he came to Al-Baqi', raised his hands three times and stood there for a long time. Then he left and I left, he hurried and I hurried, he ran and I ran, and I got there before him and entered (the house). I had only just laid down when he came in and said: 'O 'Aishah, why are you out of breath?' (one of the reporters) Sulaiman said: I thought he (Ibn Wahb) said: 'short of breath.' He said: 'Either you tell me or the All-Aware, All-Knowing will tell me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you;' and I told him the story. He said: 'You were the black shape I saw in front of me?' I said: 'Yes.'" She said: "He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me and said: 'You thought that Allah and His Messenger would be unfair to you.' She said: 'Whatever people conceal, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, knows it.' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Jibril came to me when you saw (me leave) but he did not enter upon you because you have taken off your garments. So he called me but he concealed himself from you, and I answered him but I concealed it from you. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you and I was afraid that you would feel lonely. He told me to go to Al-Baqi' and pray for forgiveness for them.'" Hajjaj bin Muhammad contradicted him (Ibn Wahb), he said: "From Ibn Juraij, from Ibn Abi Mulaikah, from Muhammad bin Qais."

أَلاَ أُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعَنِّي قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَتْ لَمَّا كَانَتْ لَيْلَتِي انْقَلَبَ فَوَضَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ عِنْدَ رِجْلَيْهِ وَوَضَعَ رِدَاءَهُ وَبَسَطَ إِزَارَهُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ وَلَمْ يَلْبَثْ إِلاَّ رَيْثَمَا ظَنَّ أَنِّي قَدْ رَقَدْتُ ثُمَّ انْتَعَلَ رُوَيْدًا وَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ رُوَيْدًا ثُمَّ فَتَحَ الْبَابَ رُوَيْدًا وَخَرَجَ وَأَجَافَهُ رُوَيْدًا وَجَعَلْتُ دِرْعِي فِي رَأْسِي فَاخْتَمَرْتُ وَتَقَنَّعْتُ إِزَارِي وَانْطَلَقْتُ فِي إِثْرِهِ حَتَّى جَاءَ الْبَقِيعَ فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ انْحَرَفَ وَانْحَرَفْتُ فَأَسْرَعَ فَأَسْرَعْتُ فَهَرْوَلَ فَهَرْوَلْتُ فَأَحْضَرَ فَأَحْضَرْتُ وَسَبَقْتُهُ فَدَخَلْتُ وَلَيْسَ إِلاَّ أَنِ اضْطَجَعْتُ فَدَخَلَ فَقَالَ مَا لَكِ يَا عَائِشُ رَابِيَةً قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ حَشْيَا قَالَ لَتُخْبِرِنِّي أَوْ لَيُخْبِرَنِّي اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ الْخَبَرَ قَالَ أَنْتِ السَّوَادُ الَّذِي رَأَيْتُ أَمَامِي قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ فَلَهَدَنِي لَهْدَةً فِي صَدْرِي أَوْجَعَتْنِي قَالَ أَظَنَنْتِ أَنْ يَحِيفَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَتْ مَهْمَا يَكْتُمِ النَّاسُ فَقَدْ عَلِمَهُ اللَّهُ ﷻ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ أَتَانِي حِينَ رَأَيْتِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكِ وَقَدْ وَضَعْتِ ثِيَابَكِ فَنَادَانِي فَأَخْفَى مِنْكِ فَأَجَبْتُهُ وَأَخْفَيْتُهُ مِنْكِ وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّكِ قَدْ رَقَدْتِ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَكِ وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ تَسْتَوْحِشِي فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ آتِيَ أَهْلَ الْبَقِيعِ فَأَسْتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ خَالَفَهُ حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ

'Asim reported it from 'Abdullah bin 'Amir, from 'Aishah, with a wording different from this.

I covered my head, put on my vie and tightened my waist wrapper, then I followed his steps until he came to Al-Baqi'. He raised his hands three times, and stood there for a long time, then he left and I left. He hastened and I also hastened; he ran and I also ran. He came (to the house) and I also came, but I got there first and entered, and as I lay down he came in. He said: "Tell me, or the Subtle, the All-Aware will tell me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you,' and I told him (the whole story). He said: 'So you were the black shape that I saw in front of me?' I said, 'Yes.' He gave me a nudge on the chest which I felt, then he said: 'Did you think that Allah and His Messenger would deal unjustly with you?' I said: 'Whatever the people conceal, Allah knows it.' He said: Jibril came to me when I saw you, but he did not enter upon me because you where not fully dressed. He called me but he concealed that from you, and I answered him, but I concealed that from you too. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you up, and I was afraid that you would be frightened. He told me to go to Al-Baqi' and pray for forgiveness for them.' I said: 'What should I say, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Say" Peace be upon the inhabitants of this place among the believers and Muslims. May Allah have mercy upon those who have gone on ahead of us and those who come later on, and we will join you, if Allah wills."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2037)

أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنِّي وَعَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَتْ لَمَّا كَانَ لَيْلَتِي انْقَلَبَ ﷺ فَوَضَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ عَنْ رِجْلَيْهِ وَوَضَعَ رِدَاءَهُ وَبَسَطَ طَرَفَ إِزَارِهِ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلَمْ يَلْبَثْ إِلَّا رَيْثَمَا ظَنَّ أَنِّي قَدْ رَقَدْتُ ثُمَّ انْتَعَلَ رُوَيْدًا وَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ رُوَيْدًا ثُمَّ فَتْحَ الْبَابَ فَخَرَجَ وَأَجَافَهُ رُوَيْدًا فَجَعَلْتُ دِرْعِي فِي رَأْسِي ثُمَّ تَقَنَّعْتُ بِإِزَارِي فَانْطَلَقْتُ فِي إِثْرِهِ حَتَّى أَتَى الْبَقِيعَ فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ انْحَرَفَ فَانْحَرَفْتُ فَأَسْرَعَ فَأَسْرَعْتُ فَهَرْوَلَ فَهَرْوَلْتُ فَأَحْضَرَ فَأَحْضَرْتُ فَسَبَقْتُهُ فَدَخَلْتُ فَلَيْسَ إِلَّا أَنِ اضْطَجَعْتَ دَخَلَ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ؟ » قُلْتُ لَا شَيْءَ قَالَ «لَتُخْبِرِنِّي أَوْ لَيُخْبِرَنِّي اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ الْخَبَرَ قَالَ «أَنْتِ السَّوَادُ الَّذِي رَأَيْتُ أَمَامِي؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ فَلَهَزَ فِي صَدْرِي لَهْزَةً أَوْجَعَتْنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَظَنَنْتِ أَنْ يَحِيفَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ وَرَسُولُهُ» قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ مَهْمَا يَكْتُمِ النَّاسُ فَقَدْ عَلِمَهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ «فَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ أَتَانِي حِينَ رَأَيْتِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكِ وَقَدْ وَضَعْتِ ثِيَابَكِ فَنَادَانِي فَأَخْفَى مِنْكِ فَأَجَبْتُهُ فَأَخْفَيْتُهُ مِنْكِ وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّكِ قَدْ رَقَدْتِ وَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُوقِظَكِ وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ تَسْتَوْحِشِيَ فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ آتِيَ أَهْلَ الْبَقِيعِ فَأَسْتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ» قُلْتُ كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ قُولِي السَّلَامُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَيَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنَّا وَالْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَاحِقُونَ «

"Shall I not tell you about the Prophet and I?" We said: "Yes." She said: "When it was my night, he came in, placed his shoes by his feet, lay down his Rida' (upper garment), and spread his Izar (lower garment) on his bed. As soon as he thought that I had gone to sleep, he put his shoes on slowly and picked up his Rida' slowly. Then he opened the door slowly, went out and shut it slowly. I put my garment over my head, covered myself and put on my Izar (lower garment), and I set out after him until he came to Al-Baqi', raised his hands three times and stood there for a long time. Then he left and I left, he hurried and I hurried, he ran and I ran, and I got there before him and entered (the house). I had only just laid down when he came in and said: 'O 'Aishah, why are you out of breath?' (one of the reporters) Sulaiman said: I thought he (Ibn Wahb) said: 'short of breath.' He said: 'Either you tell me or the All-Aware, All-Knowing will tell me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you;' and I told him the story. He said: 'You were the black shape I saw in front of me?' I said: 'Yes.'" She said: "He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me and said: 'You thought that Allah and His Messenger would be unfair to you.' She said: 'Whatever people conceal, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, knows it.' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Jibril came to me when you saw (me leave) but he did not enter upon you because you have taken off your garments. So he called me but he concealed himself from you, and I answered him but I concealed it from you. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you and I was afraid that you would feel lonely. He told me to go to Al-Baqi' and pray for forgiveness for them.'" Hajjaj bin Muhammad contradicted him (Ibn Wahb), he said: "From Ibn Juraij, from Ibn Abi Mulaikah, from Muhammad bin Qais." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3963)

He stayed until he thought that I had gone to sleep. Then he put his sandals on slowly, picked up his cloak slowly, then opened the door slowly and went out slowly. I covered my head, put on my vie and tightened my waist wrapper, then I followed his steps until he came to Al-Baqi'. He raised his hands three times, and stood there for a long time, then he left and I left. He hastened and I also hastened; he ran and I also ran. He came (to the house) and I also came, but I got there first and entered, and as I lay down he came in. He said: "Tell me, or the Subtle, the All-Aware will tell me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you,' and I told him (the whole story). He said: 'So you were the black shape that I saw in front of me?' I said, 'Yes.' He gave me a nudge on the chest which I felt, then he said: 'Did you think that Allah and His Messenger would deal unjustly with you?' I said: 'Whatever the people conceal, Allah knows it.' He said: Jibril came to me when I saw you, but he did not enter upon me because you where not fully dressed. He called me but he concealed that from you, and I answered him, but I concealed that from you too. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you up, and I was afraid that you would be frightened. He told me to go to Al-Baqi' and pray for forgiveness for them.' I said: 'What should I say, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Say" Peace be upon the inhabitants of this place among the believers and Muslims. May Allah have mercy upon those who have gone on ahead of us and those who come later on, and we will join you, if Allah wills."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2037)

I sought permission to beg forgiveness for my mother, but He did not grant it to me. I sought permission from Him to visit her grave, and He granted it (permission) to me.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ رَبِّي أَنْ أَسْتَغْفِرَ لأُمِّي فَلَمْ يَأْذَنْ لِي وَاسْتَأْذَنْتُهُ أَنْ أَزُورَ قَبْرَهَا فَأَذِنَ لِي

The Prophet ﷺ sought permission from Allah to visit the grave of his mother Aminah

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ visited the grave of his mother and he wept, and moved others around him to tears, and said: I sought permission from my Lord to beg forgiveness for her but it was not granted to me, and I sought permission to visit her grave and it was granted to me so visit the graves, for that makes you mindful of death.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited his mother's grave and wept and cause those around him to weep. Allah waits till when one-third of the first part of the night is over; He descends to the lowest heaven and says: It there any supplicator of forgiveness? Is there any penitant? Is there any petitioner (for mercy and favour)? Is there any solicitor? -till it is daybreak.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah delays until the first third of the night passes, then our Lord, blessed and exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, so that I may forgive them? Is there any repentant, so that I may accept their repentance? Is there any seeker, so that I may grant them? Is there any supplicant, so that I may answer their supplication?' This continues until dawn breaks."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Is there anyone who asks that I may give him? Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness that I may forgive him? Is there anyone who repents that I may accept his repentance until dawn breaks?'"

The Prophet ﷺ increased in doing istighfar before his passing

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ often would say, "subḥāna Allāhi wa-bi-ḥamdihī, astaghfiru Allāh wa-atūbu ilayhi (Glory be to Allah and with His praise, I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I repent to Him.)"

She said: I asked: Messenger of Allah, I see that you often repeat the saying subḥāna Allāhi wa-bi-ḥamdihī astaghfiru Allāh wa-atūbu ilayhi. He said, "My Lord informed me that I would soon see a sign in my Ummah. So when I see it I often say: subḥāna Allāhi wa-bi-ḥamdihī, astaghfiru Allāh wa-atūbu ilayhi. Indeed I saw it ˹when this āyah˺ was revealed: 'When the Help of Allah and the victory came,' i.e. Conquest of Makkah, 'And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, Then exalt ˹Him˺ with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.' (Naṣr 110:1-3"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to frequently say at the end of his life, "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh" (Glory be to Allah and praise Him, I seek forgiveness from Allah and I repent to Him). So, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, why do I always see you saying 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh'?" He said, "Indeed, my Lord has informed me that I will see a sign in my Ummah (community), and when I see it, I should praise Him and seek His forgiveness, for He is oft-returning (to mercy). Indeed, I have seen it when the victory of Allah and the conquest comes, and you see the people entering the religion of Allah in crowds, so praise the Lord and seek His forgiveness, for He is oft-returning (to mercy)." [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to often say before his death, "SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi, astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayhi." So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you utter a lot of supplications that you did not used to utter before this?" He replied, "Verily, my Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, has told me that He would send down (the news of) knowledge to me until I would see a sign which every Muslim would acknowledge. And the event which is to take place (in the near future) had already taken place, so there is no use in supplicating for it. So in this case, uttering (the supplication) is the cause of my happiness and expressing gratitude (to Allah), and I shall be the first amongst the people to present myself before Allah in absolute purity."

Messenger of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you, go back, ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, then came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Woe be upon you, go back and ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, when he came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. Allah's Apostle ﷺ said as he had said before. When it was the fourth time, Messenger of Allah (may, peace be upon him) said: From what am I to purify you? He said: From adultery, Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked if he had been mad. He was informed that he was not mad. He said: Has he drunk wine? A person stood up and smelt his breath but noticed no smell of wine. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Have you committed adultery? He said: Yes. He made pronouncement about him and he was stoned to death. The people had been (divided) into two groups about him (Ma'iz). One of them said: He has been undone for his sins had encompassed him, whereas another said: There is no repentance more excellent than the repentance of Ma'iz, for he came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and placing his hand in his (in the Holy Prophet's) hand said: Kill me with stones. (This controversy about Ma'iz) remained for two or three days. Then came Messenger of Allah ﷺ to them (his Companions) as they were sitting. He greeted them with salutation and then sat down and said: Ask forgiveness for Ma'iz b. Malik. They said: May Allah forgive Ma'iz b. Malik. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He (Ma'iz) has made such a repentance that if that were to be divided among a people, it would have been enough for all of them. He (the narrator) said: Then a woman of Ghamid, a branch of Azd, came to him and said: Messenger of of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you; go back and beg forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance. She said: I find that you intend to send me back as you sent back Ma'iz. b. Malik. He (the Holy, Prophet) said: What has happened to you? She said that she had become pregnant as a result of fornication. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Is it you (who has done that)? She said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said to her: (You will not be punished) until you deliver what is there in your womb. One of the Ansar became responsible for her until she was delivered (of the child). He (that Ansari) came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said the woman of Ghamid has given birth to a child. He (the Holy Prophet) said: In that case we shall not stone her and so leave her infant with none to suckle him. One of the Ansar got up and said: Allah's Apostle, let the responsibility of his suckling be upon me. She was then stoned to death.

جَاءَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ وَيْحَكَ ارْجِعْ فَاسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ وَتُبْ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَرَجَعَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَيْحَكَ ارْجِعْ فَاسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ وَتُبْ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَرَجَعَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتِ الرَّابِعَةُ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَ أُطَهِّرُكَ فَقَالَ مِنَ الزِّنَى فَسَأَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبِهِ جُنُونٌ فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِمَجْنُونٍ فَقَالَ أَشَرِبَ خَمْرًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَاسْتَنْكَهَهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ مِنْهُ رِيحَ خَمْرٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَزَنَيْتَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَرُجِمَ فَكَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فِرْقَتَيْنِ قَائِلٌ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ هَلَكَ لَقَدْ أَحَاطَتْ بِهِ خَطِيئَتُهُ وَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ مَا تَوْبَةٌ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ تَوْبَةِ مَاعِزٍ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اقْتُلْنِي بِالْحِجَارَةِ قَالَ فَلَبِثُوا بِذَلِكَ يَوْمَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثَةً ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ فَقَالَ اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ فَقَالُوا غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ تَابَ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أُمَّةٍ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ قَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ غَامِدٍ مِنَ الأَزْدِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ وَيْحَكِ ارْجِعِي فَاسْتَغْفِرِي اللَّهَ وَتُوبِي إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَتْ أَرَاكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُرَدِّدَنِي كَمَا رَدَّدْتَ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ وَمَا ذَاكِ قَالَتْ إِنَّهَا حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا فَقَالَ آنْتِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ لَهَا حَتَّى تَضَعِي مَا فِي بَطْنِكِ قَالَ فَكَفَلَهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ حَتَّى وَضَعَتْ قَالَ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ قَدْ وَضَعَتِ الْغَامِدِيَّةُ فَقَالَ إِذًا لاَ نَرْجُمَهَا وَنَدَعَ وَلَدَهَا صَغِيرًا لَيْسَ لَهُ مَنْ يُرْضِعُهُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ إِلَىَّ رَضَاعُهُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَرَجَمَهَا

He was informed that he was not mad. He said: Has he drunk wine? A person stood up and smelt his breath but noticed no smell of wine. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Have you committed adultery? He said: Yes. He made pronouncement about him and he was stoned to death. The people had been (divided) into two groups about him (Ma'iz). One of them said: He has been undone for his sins had encompassed him, whereas another said: There is no repentance more excellent than the repentance of Ma'iz, for he came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and placing his hand in his (in the Holy Prophet's) hand said: Kill me with stones. (This controversy about Ma'iz) remained for two or three days. Then came Messenger of Allah ﷺ to them (his Companions) as they were sitting. He greeted them with salutation and then sat down and said: Ask forgiveness for Ma'iz b. Malik. They said: May Allah forgive Ma'iz b. Malik. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He (Ma'iz) has made such a repentance that if that were to be divided among a people, it would have been enough for all of them. He (the narrator) said: Then a woman of Ghamid, a branch of Azd, came to him and said: Messenger of of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you; go back and beg forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance. She said: I find that you intend to send me back as you sent back Ma'iz. b. Malik. He (the Holy, Prophet) said: What has happened to you? She said that she had become pregnant as a result of fornication. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Is it you (who has done that)? She said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said to her: (You will not be punished) until you deliver what is there in your womb. One of the Ansar became responsible for her until she was delivered (of the child). He (that Ansari) came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said the woman of Ghamid has given birth to a child. He (the Holy Prophet) said: In that case we shall not stone her and so leave her infant with none to suckle him. One of the Ansar got up and said: Allah's Apostle, let the responsibility of his suckling be upon me. She was then stoned to death. (Using translation from Muslim 1695a)

Messenger of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you, go back, ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, then came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Woe be upon you, go back and ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, when he came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. Allah's Apostle ﷺ said as he had said before. When it was the fourth time, Messenger of Allah (may, peace be upon him) said: From what am I to purify you? He said: From adultery, Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked if he had been mad. [Machine] Ma'iz ibn Malik came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ exclaimed, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." Ma'iz returned after a short while and said, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ responded once again, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." Ma'iz returned again shortly and repeated his request, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ finally replied, "Likewise, I have given you the same answer until now. But what is it that you want to be purified from?" Ma'iz answered, "From committing adultery." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are you insane?" Ma'iz's sanity was confirmed, and the Prophet ﷺ inquired if he had consumed any alcohol. A man stood up to condemn him, but could not smell alcohol on him. The Prophet ﷺ asked Ma'iz, "Are you sure you are telling the truth?" Ma'iz affirmed, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be stoned to death. The Prophet ﷺ then mentioned the incident in the context of repentance, as he had done before. Afterwards, a woman from the tribe of Ghamid, from the Azd clan, came to him and requested, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." He once again expressed, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." She responded, saying, "Perhaps you want to turn me away just as you turned away Ma'iz ibn Malik?" The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What are you talking about?" She explained, "I am pregnant from committing adultery." The Prophet ﷺ inquired, "Are you sure you are telling the truth?" She confirmed. He then said, "In that case, we will not stone you until you give birth." The Prophet ﷺ also mentioned this incident.

جَاءَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ؓ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَيْحَكَ ارْجِعْ فَاسْتَغْفَرِ اللهَ وَتُبْ إِلَيْهِ فَرَجَعَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ارْجِعْ فَاسْتَغْفَرِ اللهَ وَتُبْ إِلَيْهِ فَرَجَعَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتِ الرَّابِعَةُ قَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِمَّ أُطَهِّرُكَ؟ قَالَ مِنَ الزِّنَا فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبِهِ جُنُونٌ؟ فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِمَجْنُونٍ فَقَالَ أَشَرِبْتَ خَمْرًا؟ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَاسْتَنْكَهَهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ مِنْهُ رِيحَ خَمْرٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَثَيِّبٌ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَرُجِمَ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فِرْقَتَيْنِ قَائِلٌ يَقُولُ قَدْ هَلَكَ مَاعِزٌ عَلَى أَسْوَأِ عَمَلِهِ لَقَدْ أَحَاطَتْ بِهِ خَطِيئَتُهُ وَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ مَا تَوْبَةٌ أَفْضَلَ مَنْ تَوْبَةِ مَاعِزٍ إِنْ جَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اقْتُلْنِي بِالْحِجَارَةِ قَالَ فَلَبِثُوا بِذَلِكَ يَوْمَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةً ثُمَّ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ فَقَالَ اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ فَقَالُوا غَفَرَ اللهُ لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَقَدْ تَابَ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أُمَّةٍ لَوَسِعَتْهَا 11449 قَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ غَامِدٍ مِنَ الْأَزْدِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ طَهِّرْنِي فَقَالَ وَيْحَكِ ارْجِعِي فَاسْتَغْفِرِي اللهَ وَتُوبِي إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَتْ لَعَلَّكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرُدَّنِي كَمَا رَدَدْتَ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ؟ فَقَالَ وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ قَالَتْ إِنِّي حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا قَالَ أَثَيِّبٌ أَنْتِ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ إِذًا لَا نَرْجُمُكِ حَتَّى تَضَعِي مَا فِي بَطْنِكِ قَالَ وَكَفَلَهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ حَتَّى وَضَعَتْ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ قَدْ وَضَعَتِ الْغَامِدِيَّةُ قَالَ إِذًا لَا نَرْجُمُهَا وَنَدَعُ وَلَدَهَا صَغِيرًا لَيْسَ لَهُ مَنْ تُرْضِعُهُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ إِلِيَّ إِرْضَاعُهُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ فَرَجَمَهَا

"عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ قال: لَمَّا رَجَمَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالكٍ كَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فِرْقَتَيْنِ، قَائِلٌ يَقُولُ: لَقَدْ هَلَكَ عَلَى أَسْوَأ حَالَةٍ، فَقَدْ أَحَاطَتْ به خَطِيئَتُهُ، وَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ: أَتَوْبَةٌ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ تَوْبَةِ مَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِك؟ إِنَّهُ جَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ في يَدِهِ وَقَالَ: اقْتُلْنِى بالْحِجَارَةِ، فَلَبِثُوا كَذَلِكَ يَوْمَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثَةً، ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ جَلَسَ، فَقَالَ: اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقَالُوا: غَفَرَ الله لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ : لَقَدْ تَابَ تَوْبَة لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أُمَّةٍ وَسِعَتْهُمْ".

جَاءَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! طَهِّرْنِى، قَالَ: وَيْحَكَ، ارْجِعْ واسْتَغْفرِ الله وَتُبْ إلَيْهِ، فَرَجَعَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! طَهِّرِنِى، فَقَالَ النَّبىُّ ﷺ مِثْلَ ذلِكَ. حَتَّى إذَا كَانَتِ الرَّابِعَةُ قَالَ لَهُ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ : فَفِيمَ أُطَهِّرُكَ؟ قَالَ: مِنَ الزِّنَا. فَسَأَلَهُ ﷺ أَبِهِ جُنُونٌ؟ فَأُخْبِرَ: أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِمَجْنُونٍ، فَقَالَ: أَيَشْرَبُ خَمْرًا؟ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَاسْتَنكهَهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ مِنْهُ رِيحَ خَمْرٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ : أَثَيِّبٌ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ؛ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَرُجِمَ، فَكَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فِرْقَتَيْنِ تَقُولُ فِرْقَةٌ: لَقَدْ هَلَكَ مَاعِزٌ عَلَى سُوءِ عَمَلِه، لَقَدْ أَحَاطَتْ بِهِ خَطِيئَتُهُ، وَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ: أَتَوْبَةٌ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ توبَةِ مَاعِزٍ! إِذْ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِىِّ ﷺ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِى يَدِهِ، فَقَالَ: اقْتُلْنِى بالْحِجَارَة، فَلَبِثُوا بِذَلِكَ يَوْميْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثَةً، ثُمَّ جَاءَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ جَلَسَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقَالُوا: يَغْفِرُ الله لِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : لَقَدْ تَابَ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أُمَّةٍ لَوَسِعَتْهَا، قَالَ: ثُمَّ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ غَامِدٍ مِنَ الأَزْدِ فَقَالَتْ: يَارَسُولَ الله! طَهِّرنِى، قَالَ: وَيْحَكِ (*) ارْجِعِى فَاسْتَغْفِرِى الله وَتُوبِى إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَتْ: لَعَلَّكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرُدَّنِى كَمَا رَدَدْتَ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ قَالَتْ: إِنَّهَا حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا، فَقَالَ: أَثَيِّب أَنْتِ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: إِذَنْ لاَ نَرْجُمَنَّكِ حَتَّى تَضَعِى مَا فِى بَطْنِكِ، فَكَفَلَهَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ حَتَّى وَضَعَتْ، فَأَتَى النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: قَدْ وَضَعَتِ الْغَاَمِدِيَّةُ، قَالَ: إِذَنْ لاَ نَرْجُمهَا، ونَدَع وَلَدَهَا صَغِيرًا فَلَيْسَ لَهُ مَنْ يُرْضِعُهُ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: إِلَىَّ رَضَاعُهُ يَانَبِىَّ اللهِ! فَرَجَمَهَا

from the Prophet ﷺ, in what he relates from Allah ﷻ that He said:

“(1) O My servants, I have forbidden wrongdoing/oppression for Myself, and I have made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another. (2) O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I guide, so seek guidance from Me and I will guide you. (3) O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I feed, so ask Me for food and I will feed you. (4) O My servants, all of you are unclothed except those whom I clothe, so ask Me for clothing and I will clothe you.”

“(5) O My servants, you commit sins by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek My forgiveness and I will forgive you. (6) O My servants, you will never reach harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will never reach benefiting Me so as to benefit Me.”

“(7) O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, were all upon the most God-fearing heart of any one man among you, that would not increase My dominion in anything. (8) O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, were all upon the most wicked heart of any one man, that would not decrease My dominion in anything.”

“(9) O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, were all to stand in one open plain and ask Me, and I were to give every person what he asked, that would not diminish what is with Me except as a needle diminishes ˹the sea˺ when it is dipped into the ocean.”

“(10) O My servants, these are only your deeds: I record them for you, then I will repay you for them in full. So whoever finds good, let him praise Allah; and whoever finds other than that, let him blame none but himself.”

Sa'id said that when Abu Idris Khaulini narrated this hadith he knelt upon his knees.

مسلم:٢٥٧٧aحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بَهْرَامَ الدَّارِمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلاَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فِيمَا رَوَى عَنِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:

«(١) يَا عِبَادِي، إِنِّي حَرَّمْتُ الظُّلْمَ عَلَى نَفْسِي، وَجَعَلْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ مُحَرَّمًا، فَلَا تَظَالَمُوا. (٢) يَا عِبَادِي، كُلُّكُمْ ضَالٌّ إِلَّا مَنْ هَدَيْتُهُ، فَاسْتَهْدُونِي أَهْدِكُمْ. (٣) يَا عِبَادِي، كُلُّكُمْ جَائِعٌ إِلَّا مَنْ أَطْعَمْتُهُ، فَاسْتَطْعِمُونِي أُطْعِمْكُمْ. (٤) يَا عِبَادِي، كُلُّكُمْ عَارٍ إِلَّا مَنْ كَسَوْتُهُ، فَاسْتَكْسُونِي أَكْسُكُمْ».

«(٥) يَا عِبَادِي، إِنَّكُمْ تُخْطِئُونَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ، وَأَنَا أَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا، فَاسْتَغْفِرُونِي أَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ. (٦) يَا عِبَادِي، إِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَبْلُغُوا ضَرِّي فَتَضُرُّونِي، وَلَنْ تَبْلُغُوا نَفْعِي فَتَنْفَعُونِي».

«(٧) يَا عِبَادِي، لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ، وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ، كَانُوا عَلَى أَتْقَى قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ، مَا زَادَ ذَلِكَ فِي مُلْكِي شَيْئًا. (٨) يَا عِبَادِي، لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ، وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ، كَانُوا عَلَى أَفْجَرِ قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ، مَا نَقَصَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ مُلْكِي شَيْئًا».

«(٩) يَا عِبَادِي، لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ، وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ، قَامُوا فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ، فَسَأَلُونِي، فَأَعْطَيْتُ كُلَّ إِنْسَانٍ مَسْأَلَتَهُ، مَا نَقَصَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا عِنْدِي إِلَّا كَمَا يَنْقُصُ الْمِخْيَطُ إِذَا أُدْخِلَ الْبَحْرَ».

«(١٠) يَا عِبَادِي، إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ، أُحْصِيهَا لَكُمْ، ثُمَّ أُوَفِّيكُمْ إِيَّاهَا. فَمَنْ وَجَدَ خَيْرًا فَلْيَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ، وَمَنْ وَجَدَ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ».

قَالَ سَعِيدٌ كَانَ أَبُو إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلاَنِيُّ إِذَا حَدَّثَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ جَثَا عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ in what he narrates from his Lord ﷻ: "Indeed, I have forbidden oppression upon myself and upon My servants. So, do not oppress one another. All of the children of Adam are prone to error, day and night, but they who seek forgiveness from Me are forgiven and it is of no concern to Me. O children of Adam, all of you are astray except those whom I have guided. And all of you are naked except those whom I have clothed. And all of you are hungry except those whom I have fed. So, seek from Me and I will provide for you. O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, the jinn of you and the humans of you, the young of you and the old of you, the males of you and the females of you, and the clean of you and the impure of you—all of you were to stand upon the heart of the most righteous among you, then that would not increase My dominion over you in anything. And if the first of you and the last of you, the jinn of you and the humans of you, the young of you and the old of you, the males of you and the females of you, and the clean of you and the impure of you—all of you were to stand upon the heart of the most wicked among you, then that would not decrease My dominion over you in anything. For My dominion is like the ocean, and the needle of a sewing machine is like your dominion."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيمَا يَرْوِي عَنْ رَبِّهِ ﷻ إِنِّي حَرَّمْتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي الظُّلْمَ وَعَلَى عِبَادِي أَلَا فَلَا تَظَالَمُوا كُلُّ بَنِي آدَمَ يُخْطِئُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرُ لَهُ وَلَا أُبَالِي وَقَالَ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ كُلُّكُمْ كَانَ ضَالًّا إِلَّا مَنْ هَدَيْتُ وَكُلُّكُمْ كَانَ عَارِيًا إِلَّا مَنْ كَسَوْتُ وَكُلُّكُمْ كَانَ جَائِعًا إِلَّا مَنْ أَطْعَمْتُوَكُلُّكُمْ كَانَ ظَمْآنًا إِلَّا مَنْ سَقَيْتُ فَاسْتَهْدُونِي أَهْدِكُمْ وَاسْتَكْسُونِي أَكْسُكُمْ وَاسْتَطْعِمُونِي أُطْعِمْكُمْ وَاسْتَسْقُونِي أَسْقِكُمْ يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَصَغِيرَكُمْ وَكَبِيرَكُمْ وَذَكَرَكُمْ وَأُنْثَاكُمْ قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ وَعُيِيَّكُمْ وَبَيِّنَكُمْ عَلَى قَلْبِ أَتْقَاكُمْ رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا لَمْ تَزِيدُوا فِي مُلْكِي شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَصَغِيرَكُمْ وَكَبِيرَكُمْ وَذَكَرَكُمْ وَأُنْثَاكُمْ عَلَى قَلْبِ أَكْفَرِكُمْ رَجُلًا لَمْ تُنْقِصُوا مِنْ مُلْكِي شَيْئًا إِلَّا كَمَا يُنْقِصُ رَأْسُ الْمِخْيَطِ مِنَ الْبَحْرِ

[Machine] On the authority of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, who said: "O my servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness from Me and I shall forgive you. O my servants, you will not attain harm to Me, so harm Me not. O my servants, you are all hungry except those whom I feed, so seek food from Me and I shall feed you. O my servants, you are all naked except those whom I clothe, so seek clothing from Me and I shall clothe you. O my servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness from Me and I shall forgive you. O my servants, if the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you, were to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not cause any loss to Me greater than that which is caused by the dipping of a needle into the sea. O my servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you, and then recompense you for. So let him who finds good praise Allāh, and let him who finds other than that blame no one except himself."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَنَّهُ قَالَ «يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّكُمُ الَّذِينَ تُخْطِئُونَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَأَنَا الَّذِي أَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ وَلَا أُبَالِي فَاسْتَغْفِرُونِي أَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ يَا عِبَادِي كُلُّكُمْ جَائِعٌ إِلَّا مَنْ أَطْعَمْتُ فَاسْتَطْعِمُوا فِيَّ أُطْعِمْكُمْ يَا عِبَادِي كُلُّكُمْ عَارٍ إِلَّا مَنْ كَسَوْتُ فَاسْتَكْسُونِي أَكْسُكُمْ يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ كَانُوا عَلَى أَتْقَى قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ لَمْ يَزِدْ ذَلِكَ فِي مُلْكِي شَيْئًا يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمْ كَانُوا عَلَى أَفْجَرِ قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ لَمْ يُنْقِصْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ مُلْكِي شَيْئًا يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَنَّ أَوَّلَكُمْ وَآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجِنَّكُمُ اجْتَمَعُوا فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ فَسَأَلُونِي وَأَعْطَيْتُ كُلَّ إِنْسَانٍ مِنْهُمْ مَا سَأَلَ لَمْ يُنْقِصْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ مُلْكِي شَيْئًا إِلَّا كَمَا يَنْقُصُ الْبَحْرُ إِنْ يُغْمَسْ فِيهِ الْمِخْيَطُ غَمْسَةً وَاحِدَةً يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ أَحْفَظُهَا عَلَيْكُمْ فَمَنْ وَجَدَ خَيْرًا فَلْيَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى وَمَنْ وَجَدَ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ»

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذِهِ السِّيَاقَةِ هو في مسلم

"O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you."

"O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My dominion in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My dominion in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I record for you and then recompense you for. So let him who finds good, praise Allah, and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself." "قَال اللهُ -تَبارَكَ وتَعَالى-: يَا عِبَادِي إنِّي حَرَّمتُ الظُّلمَ عَلَي نَفْسِي، وَجَعَلتُهُ مُحرَّمًا بَينَكُمْ، فَلَا تَظَّالمُوا، يَا عبَادِي كُلُّكُمْ ضَالٌ إلا مَنْ هَدَيتُه, فاسْتَهْدُونِي أَهْدِكُم، يَا عِبَادِي كُلُّكُمْ جَائِعٌ إلا مَنْ أطعَمْتُه فَاسْتَطعِمونِي أَطعِمكمْ, يَا عِبَادِي كُلُّكُمْ عَارٍ إلا مَنْ كَسَوْتُه فَاسْتَكْسونِي أَكْسِكُمْ، يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّكُمْ تُخطِئُون باللَّيلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وأَنَا أَغفِرُ

الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا، فَاسْتَغْفِرُونِي أَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ، يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَبْلغُوا ضَرِّي فَتَضُرُّونِي, وَلَنْ تَبْلُغُوا نَفْعِي فَتَنْفَعُونِي، يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَن أَولَّكُمْ وآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجنَّكُمْ كانوا عَلَي أَتْقَي قَلْبِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُم مَا زَادَ ذَلكَ فِي مُلْكِي شَيئًا، يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أَن أَوَّلَكُمْ وآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجنَّكُمْ كانُوا عَلَي أَفجَرِ قَلبِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ مِنكُمْ مَا نَقَصَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ مُلْكِي شَيئًا، يَا عِبَادِي لَوْ أن أوَّلَكُمْ وآخِرَكُمْ وَإِنْسَكُمْ وَجنَّكُمْ قَامُوا فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ (فَسَأَلُوني) فَأَعْطَيتُ كُلَّ إِنْسَانٍ مَسْأَلَتَه، مَا نَقَصَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا عِنْدي إلا كَمَا يَنْقُصُ الْمِخْيطُ إِذَا أَدْخِلَ الْبَحْرَ، يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّما هِيَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ أُحْصِيهَا لَكُمْ، ثُمَّ أُوفِيكُمْ إِيَّاهَا، فَمَنْ وَجَدَ خَيرًا فَليَحْمَدِ اللهَ، وَمَنْ وَجَدَ غَيرَ ذَلِكَ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ".

Where have you come from? They say: We come from Thine servants upon the earth who had been glorifying Thee (reciting Subhan Allah), uttering Thine Greatness (saying Allah o-Akbar) and uttering Thine Oneness (La ilaha ill Allah) and praising Thee (uttering al-Hamdu Lillah) and begging of Thee. Be would say: What do they beg of Me? They would say: They beg of Thee the Paradise of Thine. He (God) would say: Have they seen My Paradise? They said: No, our Lord. He would say: (What it would be then) if they were to see Mine Paradise? They (the angels) said: They seek Thine protection. He (the Lord) would say: Against what do they seek protection of Mine? They (the angels) would say: Our Lord, from the Hell-Fire. He (the Lord) would say: Have they seen My Fire? They would say: No. He (the Lord) would say: What it would be if they were to see My Fire? They would say: They beg of Thee forgiveness. He would say: I grant pardon to them, and confer upon them what they ask for and grant them protection against which they seek protection. They (the angels) would again say: Our Lord, there is one amongst them such and such simple servant who happened to pass by (that assembly) and sat there along with them (who had been participating in that assembly). He (the Lord) would say: I also grant him pardon, for they are a people the seat-fellows of whom are in no way unfortunate.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى مَلاَئِكَةً سَيَّارَةً فُضْلاً يَتَبَّعُونَ مَجَالِسَ الذِّكْرِ فَإِذَا وَجَدُوا مَجْلِسًا فِيهِ ذِكْرٌ قَعَدُوا مَعَهُمْ وَحَفَّ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا بِأَجْنِحَتِهِمْ حَتَّى يَمْلَئُوا مَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَإِذَا تَفَرَّقُوا عَرَجُوا وَصَعِدُوا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ قَالَ فَيَسْأَلُهُمُ اللَّهُ ﷻ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِمْ مِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتُمْ فَيَقُولُونَ جِئْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِ عِبَادٍ لَكَ فِي الأَرْضِ يُسَبِّحُونَكَ وَيُكَبِّرُونَكَ وَيُهَلِّلُونَكَ وَيَحْمَدُونَكَ وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ قَالَ وَمَاذَا يَسْأَلُونِي قَالُوا يَسْأَلُونَكَ جَنَّتَكَ قَالَ وَهَلْ رَأَوْا جَنَّتِي قَالُوا لاَ أَىْ رَبِّ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْا جَنَّتِي قَالُوا وَيَسْتَجِيرُونَكَ قَالَ وَمِمَّ يَسْتَجِيرُونَنِي قَالُوا مِنْ نَارِكَ يَا رَبِّ قَالَ وَهَلْ رَأَوْا نَارِي قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْا نَارِي قَالُوا وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَكَ قَالَ فَيَقُولُ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ فَأَعْطَيْتُهُمْ مَا سَأَلُوا وَأَجَرْتُهُمْ مِمَّا اسْتَجَارُوا قَالَ فَيَقُولُونَ رَبِّ فِيهِمْ فُلاَنٌ عَبْدٌ خَطَّاءٌ إِنَّمَا مَرَّ فَجَلَسَ مَعَهُمْ قَالَ فَيَقُولُ وَلَهُ غَفَرْتُ هُمُ الْقَوْمُ لاَ يَشْقَى بِهِمْ جَلِيسُهُمْ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Verily, Allah has angels who roam the gatherings of remembrance. They come together whenever remembrance is mentioned, and ascend from one gathering to another until they reach the heavens. Allah then asks them, even though He already knows, 'Where have you come from?' They reply, 'We have come from Your servants who were seeking Paradise, seeking refuge from Hell, and seeking Your forgiveness.' Allah then asks, 'Have they seen My Paradise?' They reply, 'No, but they believe in it with certainty.' Allah asks again, 'And have they seen Hell?' They reply, 'No, but they seek protection from it.' Allah says, 'If they were to see My Paradise, how would it be for them?' The angels respond, 'It would increase them in faith and devotion.' Allah then asks, 'And if they were to see My Hell, how would it be for them?' The angels respond, 'It would increase them in fear and obedience.' Allah says, 'I have forgiven them.' The angels reply, 'O Lord, among them is a person who happened to be passing by and sat down among them due to necessity.' Allah says, 'Those who sit among them will not be unfortunate.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ ﷻ مَلَائِكَةً فُضُلًا يَتَّبِعُونَ مَجَالِسَ الذِّكْرِ يَجْتَمِعُونَ عِنْدَ الذِّكْرِ فَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِمَجْلِسٍ عَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ حَتَّى يَبْلُغُوا الْعَرْشَ فَيَقُولُ اللهُ ﷻ لَهُمْ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ مِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتُمْ؟ فَيَقُولُونَ مِنْ عِنْدِ عَبِيدٍ لَكَ يَسْأَلُونَكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَيَتَعَوَّذُونَ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَكَ فَيَقُولُ ﷻ يَسْأَلُونِي جَنَّتِي هَلْ رَأَوْهَا؟ فَكَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْهَا؟ وَيَتَعَوَّذُونَ مِنْ نَارِي فَكَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْهَا؟ فَإِنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ فَيَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا إِنَّ فِيهِمْ عَبْدَكَ الْخَطَّاءَ فُلَانًا مَرَّ بِهِمْ لِحَاجَةٍ لَهُفَجَلَسَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ اللهُ ﷻ أُولَئِكَ الْجُلَسَاءُ لَا يَشْقَى بِهِمْ جَلِيسُهُمْ

"إِنَّ للَّه مَلَائِكَةً فُضْلًا، يبتغون مجالسَ الذكر، يَجْتَمِعُونَ عِنْدَ الذِّكْر، فإِذا مَرُّوا بمجالس عَلَا بعضُهُم عَلَى بَعْض حَتَّى يبلغوا العرَش، فيقُول اللَّه لَهُمْ وَهُوَ أعْلَمُ: من أينَ جِئْتُمْ؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: مِنْ عِنْدِ عَبِيدِ لَكَ، يَسْأَلُونَكَ الجَنَّة، وَيَتَعَوَّذونَ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ، وَيَسْتَغْفرُونَ فَيَقُولُ: يَسْأَلُونِى جنتى؛ فَكَيْفَ لو رَأوْهَا؟ ويَتَعَوَّذُون مِنْ نَارِى؛ فكيف لَوْ رَأَوْهَا؟ فإِنِّى قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لهم فَيَقُولُونَ: رَبَّنا إِنَّ فيهمْ عَبْدَكَ الخَطَّاءَ فُلَانٌ، مَرَّ بِهِمْ لِحَاجَةٍ له فجلس إِليهم، قَال اللَّه ﷻ: أُولَئِكَ الجُلَسَاءُ لَا يَشْقَى بهم جَلِيسُهُمْ" .

ابن شاهين في الترغيب في الذكر عن أبى هريرة، قال ابن شاهين: هذا الحديث من أحسن حديث في الذكر سَنَدًا وأَصحِّه

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Every human being from the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints. So whoever magnifies Allah (says: Allah is the Greatest), praises Allah, declares Allah’s oneness (says: there is no god but Allah), glorifies Allah, seeks Allah’s forgiveness, and removes a stone from the people’s path—or a thorn or a bone—from the people’s path, or enjoins what is right or forbids what is wrong—[doing] a number equal to those three hundred and sixty joints—then on that day he will walk having moved himself away from Hellfire.”

Abu Tawbah said: and perhaps he said, “he reaches the evening."

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ خُلِقَ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ عَلَى سِتِّينَ وَثَلاَثِمَائَةِ مَفْصِلٍ۔ فَمَنْ كَبَّرَ اللَّهَ، وَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ، وَهَلَّلَ اللَّهَ، وَسَبَّحَ اللَّهَ، وَاسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ، وَعَزَلَ حَجَرًا عَنْ طَرِيقِ النَّاسِ أَوْ شَوْكَةً أَوْ عَظْمًا عَنْ طَرِيقِ النَّاسِ، وَأَمَرَ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ نَهَى عَنْ مُنْكَرٍ، عَدَدَ تِلْكَ السِّتِّينَ وَالثَّلاَثِمِائَةِ السُّلاَمَى، فَإِنَّهُ يَمْشِي يَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَدْ زَحْزَحَ نَفْسَهُ عَنِ النَّارِ۔»

قَالَ أَبُو تَوْبَةَ: وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ يُمْسِي

ذِكْرُ تَفَاصِيلِ الْمَعْرُوفِ الَّذِي يَكُونُ صَدَقَةَ الْمُسْلِمِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah created every human being from the progeny of Adam with sixty three hundred joints. If a person praises and extols Allah, says the testimony of faith, glorifies Allah, seeks forgiveness from Allah, removes any bone from the path of people, removes any harmful object from their path, enjoins good and forbids evil, he will earn the reward equal to the number of those sixty three hundred joints. On that day, he will be saved from the hellfire."

Every one of the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of Allah, praises Allah, declares Allah to be One, Glorifies Allah, and seeks forgiveness from Allah, and removes stone, or thorn, or bone from people's path, and enjoins what is good and forbids from evil, to the number of those three hundred and sixty joints, will walk that day having saved himself from the Fire. Abu Taubah said: "Perhaps he said: 'Will reach the evening.'" (Using translation from Muslim 1007a)
