I have committed immorality (adultery), so inflict punishment upon me. Allah's Apostle ﷺ turned him away again and again. He then asked his people (about the state of his mind). They said: We do not know of any ailment of his except that he has committed something about which he thinks that he would not be able to relieve himself of its burden but with the Hadd being imposed upon him. He (Ma'iz) came back to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and he commanded us to stone him. We took him to the Baqi' al-Gharqad (the graveyard of Medina). We neither tied him nor dug any ditch for him. We attacked him with bones, with clods and pebbles. He ran away and we ran after him until he came upon the ston ground (al-Harra) and stopped there and we stoned him with heavy stones of the Harra until he became motionless (lie died). He (the Holy Prophet) then addressed (us) in the evening saying Whenever we set forth on an expedition in the cause of Allah, some one of those connected with us shrieked (under the pressure of sexual lust) as the bleating of a male goat. It is essential that if a person having committed such a deed is brought to me, I should punish him. He neither begged forgiveness for him nor cursed him.

[Machine] "A man named Ma'iz ibn Malik came to the Prophet ﷺ and confessed that he had committed a grave sin. The Prophet ﷺ turned him away repeatedly, but Ma'iz kept asking the people if there was any punishment for him. They replied that there was no punishment for him except that he had involved himself in something that he should not have and the punishment for this was to be executed. The Prophet ﷺ then ordered them to take him to the outskirts of the city and they did not dig a pit for him or tie him up, but rather they threw him with stones, bones and clods of earth until he died. After that, the Prophet ﷺ delivered a sermon and praised and thanked Allah. He then said, 'Why is it that when we launch an attack and someone among us remains behind with our families, he is not like a wet nurse who takes care of the young ones of a goat?' He further added, 'Indeed, I am not to have sexual relations with any of them. However, I apply it (the prescribed punishment) to them.' He did not curse him or ask forgiveness for him."

[Machine] Maa'iz ibn Malik came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have committed a grave sin." The Prophet ﷺ turned away from him multiple times. Maa'iz then asked the people, "Is there a punishment for me?" They replied, "There is nothing wrong with you except that you have come seeking a punishment that can only be lifted from you by establishing the prescribed punishment." Maa'iz then asked them to take him to the area of Gharkad, where they did not dig a hole or tie him up. Instead, they stoned him with pottery, bones, and clumps of earth. Maa'iz complained and struggled, but they persisted until he calmed down. Later, the Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit in the evening and praised Allah and spoke highly of Him. He then said, "What is wrong with people that when we engage in battle, one of them leaves their family behind, and they would have someone guardian-like as the nanny goat? By Allah, if I was to give preference to anyone in this matter, I would have preferred to take action against him." The Prophet ﷺ did not curse him nor ask for forgiveness for him.

Messenger of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you, go back, ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, then came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Woe be upon you, go back and ask forgiveness of Allah and turn to Him in repentance. He (the narrator) said that he went back not far, when he came and said: Messenger of Allah, purify me. Allah's Apostle ﷺ said as he had said before. When it was the fourth time, Messenger of Allah (may, peace be upon him) said: From what am I to purify you? He said: From adultery, Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked if he had been mad. He was informed that he was not mad. He said: Has he drunk wine? A person stood up and smelt his breath but noticed no smell of wine. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Have you committed adultery? He said: Yes. He made pronouncement about him and he was stoned to death. The people had been (divided) into two groups about him (Ma'iz). One of them said: He has been undone for his sins had encompassed him, whereas another said: There is no repentance more excellent than the repentance of Ma'iz, for he came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and placing his hand in his (in the Holy Prophet's) hand said: Kill me with stones. (This controversy about Ma'iz) remained for two or three days. Then came Messenger of Allah ﷺ to them (his Companions) as they were sitting. He greeted them with salutation and then sat down and said: Ask forgiveness for Ma'iz b. Malik. They said: May Allah forgive Ma'iz b. Malik. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He (Ma'iz) has made such a repentance that if that were to be divided among a people, it would have been enough for all of them. He (the narrator) said: Then a woman of Ghamid, a branch of Azd, came to him and said: Messenger of of Allah, purify me, whereupon he said: Woe be upon you; go back and beg forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance. She said: I find that you intend to send me back as you sent back Ma'iz. b. Malik. He (the Holy, Prophet) said: What has happened to you? She said that she had become pregnant as a result of fornication. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Is it you (who has done that)? She said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said to her: (You will not be punished) until you deliver what is there in your womb. One of the Ansar became responsible for her until she was delivered (of the child). He (that Ansari) came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said the woman of Ghamid has given birth to a child. He (the Holy Prophet) said: In that case we shall not stone her and so leave her infant with none to suckle him. One of the Ansar got up and said: Allah's Apostle, let the responsibility of his suckling be upon me. She was then stoned to death. (Using translation from Muslim 1695a)

[Machine] Ma'iz ibn Malik came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ exclaimed, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." Ma'iz returned after a short while and said, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ responded once again, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." Ma'iz returned again shortly and repeated his request, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." The Prophet ﷺ finally replied, "Likewise, I have given you the same answer until now. But what is it that you want to be purified from?" Ma'iz answered, "From committing adultery." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are you insane?" Ma'iz's sanity was confirmed, and the Prophet ﷺ inquired if he had consumed any alcohol. A man stood up to condemn him, but could not smell alcohol on him. The Prophet ﷺ asked Ma'iz, "Are you sure you are telling the truth?" Ma'iz affirmed, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be stoned to death. The Prophet ﷺ then mentioned the incident in the context of repentance, as he had done before. Afterwards, a woman from the tribe of Ghamid, from the Azd clan, came to him and requested, "O Messenger of Allah, purify me." He once again expressed, "Woe to you, go back and seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him." She responded, saying, "Perhaps you want to turn me away just as you turned away Ma'iz ibn Malik?" The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What are you talking about?" She explained, "I am pregnant from committing adultery." The Prophet ﷺ inquired, "Are you sure you are telling the truth?" She confirmed. He then said, "In that case, we will not stone you until you give birth." The Prophet ﷺ also mentioned this incident.

He who climbed this hill, the hill of Murar, his sins would be obliterated as were obliterated the sins of Bani Isra'il. So the first to take their horses were the people of Banu Khazraj. Then there was a ceaseless flow of persons and Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) said to them: All of you are those who have been pardoned except the owner of a red camel. We came to him and said to him: You also come on, so that Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) may seek forgiveness for you. But he said: By Allah, so far as I am concerned, the finding of something lost is dearer to me than seeking of forgiveness for me by your companion (the Holy Prophet), and he remained busy in finding out his lost thing.

I have left behind in the mosque a man who explains the Qur'an according to his personal discretion and he explained this verse:" So wait for the day when the Heaven brings a clear smoke." He says that a smoke would come to the people on the Day of Resurrection anl it will withhold breath and they would be inflicted with cold. 'Abdullah said: He who has knowledge should say something and he who has no knowledge should simply say: Allah is best aware. This reflects the understanding of a person that he should say about that which he does not know that it is Allah who knows best. The fact is that when the Quraish disobeyed Allah's Apostle ﷺ he supplicated Allah that they should be afflicted with famine and starvation as was done in case of Yusuf. And they were so much hard pressed that a person would ace the sky and he would see between him and the sky something like smoke and they were so much hard pressed that they began to cat the bones, and a person came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah. seek forgiveness for the tribe of Mudar for (its people) have been undone. The Messenger ﷺ said: For Mudar? You are overbold, but he supplicated Allah for them. It was upon this that this verse was revealed:" We shall remove the chastisement a little, but they will surely return to evil" (xliv. 15). lie (the narrator) said: There was a downpoor of rain upon them. When there was some relief for them they returned to the same position as they had been before, and Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, revealed this verse:" So wait for the day when the heaven brings a clear smoke enveloping people. This is a grievous torment on the day when We seize them with the most violent seizing; surely, We shall exact retribution." And this (seizing) implied (Battle) of Badr.

[Machine] He has a long life, Waelak, you would have perished if you went to him. So, convey my greetings to him and tell him to come to me. When he arrived in Kufa, he did not change his travel clothes until he went to him. He saw him in the mosque and did not come close to him, so he said to him, "Seek forgiveness for me, O my cousin." He replied, "May Allah forgive you, O my cousin." He said, "May Allah forgive you, O Uwais ibn Amir, the leader of the faithful, who conveys greetings to you." He said, "Who mentioned me to the leader of the faithful?" He replied, "He mentioned you and ordered me to convey to you, so come to him." He said, "In hearing and obedience to the leader of the faithful." He went to Umar and entered upon him. Umar said to him, "Are you Uwais ibn Amir al-Qarni?" He said, "Yes." Umar said, "You are the one who went with him and prayed to Allah to remove it from you, so He removed it. You said, 'O Allah, leave in my body what I remember Your blessings upon me.' So you left in your body what you remember Allah's blessings upon you?" He said, "And how do you know, O leader of the faithful? By Allah, no human has seen this." He said, "The Messenger of Allah has informed us that there will be in the generations a man named Uwais ibn Amir al-Qarni. He will go out with a wound and will pray to Allah to remove it, so He will remove it from him. He will say, 'O Allah, leave in my body what I remember Your blessings upon me.' So Allah will leave in his body what he remembers Allah's blessings upon him. Whoever among you meets him and is able to seek forgiveness for him, then let him seek forgiveness for him. So seek forgiveness for me, O Uwais ibn Amir." He said, "May Allah forgive you, O leader of the faithful." Umar said, "And may Allah forgive you, O Uwais ibn Amir." When they heard what Umar said about the Messenger of Allah, one man said, "Seek forgiveness for me." Another said, "Seek forgiveness for me, O Uwais." When they crowded upon him, he left and was not seen until the hour (end of the day).

Where have you come from? They say: We come from Thine servants upon the earth who had been glorifying Thee (reciting Subhan Allah), uttering Thine Greatness (saying Allah o-Akbar) and uttering Thine Oneness (La ilaha ill Allah) and praising Thee (uttering al-Hamdu Lillah) and begging of Thee. Be would say: What do they beg of Me? They would say: They beg of Thee the Paradise of Thine. He (God) would say: Have they seen My Paradise? They said: No, our Lord. He would say: (What it would be then) if they were to see Mine Paradise? They (the angels) said: They seek Thine protection. He (the Lord) would say: Against what do they seek protection of Mine? They (the angels) would say: Our Lord, from the Hell-Fire. He (the Lord) would say: Have they seen My Fire? They would say: No. He (the Lord) would say: What it would be if they were to see My Fire? They would say: They beg of Thee forgiveness. He would say: I grant pardon to them, and confer upon them what they ask for and grant them protection against which they seek protection. They (the angels) would again say: Our Lord, there is one amongst them such and such simple servant who happened to pass by (that assembly) and sat there along with them (who had been participating in that assembly). He (the Lord) would say: I also grant him pardon, for they are a people the seat-fellows of whom are in no way unfortunate.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Verily, Allah has angels who roam the gatherings of remembrance. They come together whenever remembrance is mentioned, and ascend from one gathering to another until they reach the heavens. Allah then asks them, even though He already knows, 'Where have you come from?' They reply, 'We have come from Your servants who were seeking Paradise, seeking refuge from Hell, and seeking Your forgiveness.' Allah then asks, 'Have they seen My Paradise?' They reply, 'No, but they believe in it with certainty.' Allah asks again, 'And have they seen Hell?' They reply, 'No, but they seek protection from it.' Allah says, 'If they were to see My Paradise, how would it be for them?' The angels respond, 'It would increase them in faith and devotion.' Allah then asks, 'And if they were to see My Hell, how would it be for them?' The angels respond, 'It would increase them in fear and obedience.' Allah says, 'I have forgiven them.' The angels reply, 'O Lord, among them is a person who happened to be passing by and sat down among them due to necessity.' Allah says, 'Those who sit among them will not be unfortunate.'"
