The merit of this dua for forgiveness

that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever says,

astaghfiru allāh al-ʿaẓīm alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa, al-ḥayyu al-qayyūm, wa-atūbu ilayh

(I seek forgiveness from Allah, besides Whom there is no god but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I repent to Him)

he will be forgiven, even if he fled from the battle line."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ قَالَ:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَىُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

غُفِرَ لَهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ».

the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever says, when he goes to his bed: ‘I seek forgiveness from Allah, [the Magnificent] the One whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him (Astaghfirullāha [al-ʿAẓim] alladhi lā ilāha illā huw, al-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm, wa atūbu ilaihi)’ three times, Allah shall forgive him his sins if they were like the foam of the sea, even if they were the number of leaves of the trees, even if they were the number of sand particles of ʿAlij, even if they were the number of the days of the world.”

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْوِي إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَىَّ الْقَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ ذُنُوبَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ وَرَقِ الشَّجَرِ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ رَمْلِ عَالِجٍ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ أَيَّامِ الدُّنْيَا

“My father narrated to me, from my grandfather, that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘Whoever says: “I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Magnificent, whom there is none worthy of worship but Him, the Living, Al-Qayyum, and I repent to him,” (Astaghfirullāhal-ʿAẓīm alladhī lā ilāha illā huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūmu wa atūbu ilaih) then Allah will forgive him, even if he fled from battle.’”

سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَىَّ الْقَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ غُفِرَ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever says, when he goes to his bed: astaghfiru Allāh alladhī lā ilah illā hūwa al-ḥayyu al-qayyūmu wa-atūbu ilayhi (I seek forgiveness from Allah, the One whom there is none worthy of worship except for Him, the Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him ) three times, Allah shall forgive him his sins, even if they were like the foam of the sea, even if they were the number of leaves of the trees, even if they were the number of sand particles of ʿĀlij, and even if they were the number of the leaves on a tree.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْوِي إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ (أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ) ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ, غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ ذُنُوبَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ رَمْلِ عَالِجٍ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ عَدَدِ وَرَقِ الشَّجَرِ۔»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever says, 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, the One whom there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence, and I repent to Him,' three times, his sins will be forgiven even if he was fleeing from the battlefield."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا غُفِرَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَارًّا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever says, 'Astaghfirullah al-'Azeem, alladhee la ilaha illa huwal Hayyul Qayyum, wa atubu ilayhi,' three times, his sins will be forgiven, even if he had run away from the battle."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا غُفِرَتْ لَهُ ذُنُوبُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَارًّا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ

[Machine] "A man should not say, 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence, and I repent to Him three times, except that his sins will be forgiven, even if he flees from crawling.'"

«لَا يَقُولُ رَجُلٌ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ»

"مَنْ قَالَ بَعْدَ كُلِّ صَلاةٍ: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الذِى لا إِلهَ إِلا هُوَ الْحَى القَيُّوم وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، كَفَّرَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ذُنُوبَهُ، وَإِنْ كان فَرَّارًا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ".

"مَنِ اسْتَغْفَرَ الله دُبُرَ كُلِّ صلاة ثَلاثَ مَرَّات، فَقَال: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الذي لا إِله إِلا هُو الْحيُّ القَيَّومُ وأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ غُفِرتْ ذُنُوبُهُ وإنْ كَانَ قَدْ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ".

"مَنْ قَال: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الَّذِي لا إِلَه إِلا هُوَ الحَيّ القُّيوم وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ ثَلاثًا غُفِرَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ وَإِنْ كان فَارًّا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ".

"مَنْ قَال: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقَيوُمَّ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ غُفِرَ لَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ قَدْ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ".

"مَن قَال صَبِيحَةَ الجُمُعَةِ قَبْل صَلاةِ الْغَدَاةِ: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقيومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّات، غُفِرَ لَهُ ذنُوبهُ وَلَوْ كانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ زَبَد الْبَحْرِ".

"مَنْ قَال بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَبَعْدَ الْعَصرِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّات: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الْعَظِيمَ الَّذِي لا إِلهَ إِلا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ كُفِّرَتْ عَنْهُ ذُنُوبُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ".

"مَنْ قَال: أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله الْعَظِيمَ، الَّذِي لا إِلهَ إِلا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ ثَلاثًا، غُفِرَ لَهُ ذنُوبُهُ، وَلَوْ كَانَتْ عَدَدَ رَمْلِ عَالج (وَغُثَاء الْبَحْر) وَعَدَدَ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ".

"إِذا قال العْبدُ: أستْغِفرُ الله العظيمَ الذي لا إِلهَ إِلا هُوَ الحيّ القَيُّومُ وأتُوبُ إِليه غُفِرَ له وإنْ كانَ مُولِّيًا مِنَ الزحفِ".
