nasai-kubra:5861ʿUtbah b. ʿAbdullāh > Ibn al-Mubārak > Sufyān > Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad from his father > Jābir

"In his Khutbah the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to praise Allah as He deserves to be praised, then he would say: 'Whomsoever Allah (SWT) guides, none can lead him astray, and whomsoever Allah sends astray, none can guide. The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.' Then he said: 'The Hour and I have been sent like these two.' Whenever he mentioned the Hour, his cheeks would turn red, and he would raise his voice and become angry, as if he were warning of an approaching army and saying: 'An army is coming to attack you in the morning, or in the evening!' (Then he said): 'Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his family, and whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents, then these are my responsibility, and I am the most entitled to take care of the believers.'" When Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose, and his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying: "The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say: "The Last Hour and I have been sent like these two." And he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say: "The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error." He would further say:, I am more dear to a Muslim even than his self; and he who left behind property that is for his family; and he who dies under debt or leaves children (in helplessness), the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me."

ahmad:14334Muṣʿab b. Sallām > Jaʿfar from his father > Jābir

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , delivered a sermon in which he praised and glorified Allah for His qualities and attributes. Then he said, "The most truthful of all speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of all matters are newly invented ones, and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a misguidance." Then he raised his voice, his cheeks turned red, and his anger intensified when he mentioned the Hour (i.e. the Day of Judgment), as if he were warning of an approaching army. He said, "Has the Hour come upon you? I have been sent and the Hour are like these." He pointed with his index and middle fingers. He continued, saying, "The Hour has come upon you in the morning and in the evening. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it will go to his family, and whoever leaves behind debt or dependents, it is upon me and upon the Muslims to take care of them. And when he said 'dependents,' he meant his children."
