Collected by Muslim, Nasāʾī, Ibn Mājah, Aḥmad, Ibn Ḥibbān, Nasāʾī's Kubrá, BayhaqīThe method of the khutbah of the Prophet ﷺ; the Prophet ﷺ as a guide and a guardian
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon, his eyes would become red, his voice would rise, and his anger would intensify, until it was as though he were warning an army, saying: “An enemy has come upon you in the morning and in the evening.” And he would say: “I have been sent, and the Hour, like these two,” and he would join his index finger and middle finger.
And he would say: “To proceed: indeed, the best speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the worst of matters are newly invented ones; and every innovation is misguidance.” Then he would say: “I am (i.e. following me) is a priority to every believer than his own self. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his family; and whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents in need, then it is ˹a responsibility˺ to me and upon me.”
"In his Khutbah the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to praise Allah as He deserves to be praised, then he would say: 'Whomsoever Allah (SWT) guides, none can lead him astray, and whomsoever Allah sends astray, none can guide. The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.' Then he said: 'The Hour and I have been sent like these two.' Whenever he mentioned the Hour, his cheeks would turn red, and he would raise his voice and become angry, as if he were warning of an approaching army and saying: 'An army is coming to attack you in the morning, or in the evening!' (Then he said): 'Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his family, and whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents, then these are my responsibility, and I am the most entitled to take care of the believers.'"
"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon, his eyes would turn red, he would raise his voice and he would speak with intensity, as if he were warning of an (enemy) army, saying, 'They will surely attack you in the morning, or they will surely attack you in the evening!' He would say: 'I and the Hour have been sent like these two,' and he would hold his index and middle finger. Then he would say: 'The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil matters are those that are newly-invented, and every innovation (Bid'ah) is a going astray.' And he used to say: 'Whoever dies and leaves behind some wealth, it is for his family, and whoever leaves behind a debt or dependent children, then they are both my responsibility.'"

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , delivered a sermon in which he praised and glorified Allah for His qualities and attributes. Then he said, "The most truthful of all speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of all matters are newly invented ones, and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a misguidance." Then he raised his voice, his cheeks turned red, and his anger intensified when he mentioned the Hour (i.e. the Day of Judgment), as if he were warning of an approaching army. He said, "Has the Hour come upon you? I have been sent and the Hour are like these." He pointed with his index and middle fingers. He continued, saying, "The Hour has come upon you in the morning and in the evening. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it will go to his family, and whoever leaves behind debt or dependents, it is upon me and upon the Muslims to take care of them. And when he said 'dependents,' he meant his children."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to say in his sermon after the Tashahhud: "Indeed, the best of speech is the Book of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad." Yahya said, "I do not know who he was referring to except that he said, 'And the worst of matters are those newly introduced, and whenever he mentioned the Hour, his voice would rise and his anger would intensify as if he were warning of an approaching army, then he would say, 'I have been sent and the Hour are like these two fingers,' and he would join his index and middle fingers."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , would redden and his cheeks would flush when he mentioned the Hour (the Day of Judgment). His anger would intensify, and his voice would rise as if he were a warner of an approaching army, saying, "I am the closest to the believers than their own selves. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it belongs to his family, and whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents, then it is upon me." And I am the closest to the believers.

When Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose, and his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying: "The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say: "The Last Hour and I have been sent like these two." And he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say: "The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error." He would further say:, I am more dear to a Muslim even than his self; and he who left behind property that is for his family; and he who dies under debt or leaves children (in helplessness), the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me." (Using translation from Muslim 867a)
