[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me, so I went to him with the daughter of Zainab, and she was trembling as if she were in a seizure. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "To Allah belongs what He takes and to Him belongs what He gives, and everything has a fixed term." Sa'd bin 'Ubada then said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you weeping or do you not forbid crying?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, it is a sign of mercy that Allah has placed in the hearts of His servants. Verily, Allah only has mercy on His servants who are merciful."

The daughter of the Prophet ﷺ sent (a messenger) to the Prophet ﷺ requesting him to come as her child was dying (or was gasping), but the Prophet ﷺ returned the messenger and told him to convey his greeting to her and say: "Whatever Allah takes is for Him and whatever He gives, is for Him, and everything with Him has a limited fixed term (in this world) and so she should be patient and hope for Allah's reward." She again sent for him, swearing that he should come. The Prophet ﷺ got up, and so did Saʿd bin 'Ubada, Muʿadh bin Jabal, Ubai bin Kaʿb, Zaid bin Thabit and some other men. The child was brought to Messenger of Allah ﷺ while his breath was disturbed in his chest (the sub-narrator thinks that Usama added: ) as if it was a leather water-skin. On that the eyes of the Prophet ﷺ started shedding tears. Saʿd said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What is this?" He replied, "It is mercy which Allah has lodged in the hearts of His slaves, and Allah is merciful only to those of His slaves who are merciful (to others).

We were with the Prophet ﷺ when suddenly there came to him a messenger from one of his daughters who was asking him to come and see her son who was dying. The Prophet ﷺ said (to the messenger), "Go back and tell her that whatever Allah takes is His, and whatever He gives is His, and everything with Him has a limited fixed term (in this world). So order her to be patient and hope for Allah's reward." But she sent the messenger to the Prophet ﷺ again, swearing that he should come to her. So the Prophet got up, and so did Saʿd bin 'Ubada and Muʿadh bin Jabal (and went to her). When the child was brought to the Prophet ﷺ his breath was disturbed in his chest as if it were in a water skin. On that the eyes of the Prophet ﷺ became flooded with tears, whereupon Saʿd said to him, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What is this?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is mercy which Allah has put in the heart of His slaves, and Allah bestows His mercy only on those of His slaves who are merciful (to others)."

A daughter of Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him message while I and Sa'd were with him and I think Ubayy was also there: My son or daughter (the narrator is doubtful) is dying, so come to us. He sent her greeting, saying at the same time: Say! What Allah has been taken belongs to Him, what He has given (belongs to Him), and He has appointed time for everything. She then sent a message adjuring him (to come to her). So he came to her and the child who was on the point of death was placed in the hearts of those whom He wished. Allah shows compassion only to those of His servants who are compassionate.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 1284)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came with the daughter of his daughter, and she was screaming as if she were in a trance. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "To Allah belongs what He takes, and to Allah belongs what He gives, and everything has a designated time. And he wept. Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, you are weeping even though you have prohibited crying?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, it is a mercy that Allah has placed in the hearts of His servants. Indeed, Allah shows mercy to the merciful among His servants."
