[Machine] A sheep died for the Prophet's wife. The Prophet came to her and she informed him about it. He said, "Did you not benefit from its skin?" She asked, "O Messenger of Allah, can one benefit from the skin of a dead animal?" The Messenger of Allah recited to her, "{Say, 'I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal} until the end of the verse. Indeed, you are not consuming it." Ibn Abbas said, "So she was sent to and she was skinned, and she made use of its skin."

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, Fulanah, meaning the sheep, has died." He said, "Why didn't you take its hide?" She said, "So we took the hide of a sheep that died." The Prophet ﷺ said, "He only said, '{Say, 'I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it, unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.']' until the end of the verse. There is no harm in dyeing it so that you may benefit from it." He said, "So we sent it to her and she tanned its hide until it got burnt."

A cat came and drank some of it and he tilted the vessel for it until it drank some of it. Kabshah said: He saw me looking at him; he asked me: Are you surprised, my niece? I said: Yes. "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and when we were in Al-Baida' or Dhat Al-Jaish, a necklace of mine broke and fell. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed there looking for it and the people stayed with him. There was no water near them, and they did not have water with them. The people came to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: 'Do you see what 'Aishah has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop and they are not near any water and they do not have water with them.' Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting his head on my thigh and had gone to sleep. He said: 'You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people, and they are not near any water and they do not have any water with them.'" 'Aishah said: "Abu Bakr rebuked me and said whatever Allah willed he would say. He started poking me on my hip, and the only thing that prevented me from moving was the fact that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept until morning when he woke up without any water. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed the verse of Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said: 'This is not the first time we have been blessed because of you, O family of Abu Bakr!'" She said: "Then we made the camel that I had been riding stand up, and we found the necklace beneath it." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 310)

I have not seen Umar compromising on this. He said, 'What will you do with this verse: "So if you do not find water, then purify yourselves with clean earth"?' A few goats got collected with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Abu Dharr, drive them to the wood. I drove them to Rabadhah (a place near Medina). I would have sexual defilement (during my stay there) and I would remain (in this condition) for five or six days. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: O Abu Dharr. I kept silence. He then said: May your mother bereave you, Abu Dharr: woe be to your mother. He then called a black slave-girl for me. She brought a vessel which contained water. She then concealed me by drawing a curtain and I concealed myself behind a she-camel, and took a bath. I felt as if I had thrown away a mountain from me. He said: Clean earth is a means for ablution for a Muslim, even for ten years (he does not find water); but when you find water, you should make it touch your skin, for that is better. The version of Musaddad has: "the goats (were collected) from the alms," and the tradition reported by 'Amr is complete. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 332)

[Machine] A group of sheep from the charity sheep gathered at the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ place. He said, "Start, O Abu Dharr." Abu Dharr said, "So I started herding them towards the Rabdhah." He said, "He used to come to me while I was in a state of ritual impurity, either five or six times, and I found it within myself. So I came to the Prophet ﷺ and he was leaning against the wall of the room. When he saw me, he said, "What is wrong with you, O Abu Dharr?" I sat down and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am in a state of ritual impurity." So he ordered a black servant girl to bring a skin filled with water. I covered myself with the camel and the garment, then I performed ablution. It was as if a mountain was lifted from me. He said, "Approach, for cleanliness is part of righteousness and the best of a Muslim's actions. If he finds water, he should touch his skin with it."

Suddenly, my necklace broke and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to search for it, and the people also stopped with him. There was no water with them, and they were not near any water source. Some people approached Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and said, 'Don't you see what Aisha has done? She made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stand, and there is no water with them.' Abu Bakr admonished me and said, 'May Allah never let anyone speak ill of you.' He then started poking me with his hand on my side so much so that it hindered my movement except for the place where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was. [Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and we traveled at night until it was late in the night. Then we experienced this incident, and there is no better incident for travelers than this. None of us woke up except due to the heat of the sun. He (the narrator) said, "The first to wake up was so and so, then so and so, then so and so." And they were known as Abu Rajaa's group, but Owf forgot them. Then Umar ibn Al-Khattab, the fourth one, woke up. He (the narrator) said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sleep, we would not wake him up until he woke up, because we did not know what might happen to him in his sleep." He (the narrator) said, "So when Umar woke up and saw what had befallen the people, he exclaimed and raised his voice in takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar), and he continued to exclaim and raise his voice in takbeer until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up due to his voice. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up, he complained about what had happened to them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No harm or danger, proceed.' So he (Umar) traveled a short distance and then stopped. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended and called for water, performed ablution, and the call to prayer was announced. He led the people in prayer. When he completed his prayer, he saw a man who had not prayed with the rest of the people. He said, 'What prevented you, O so and so, from praying with the people?' He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I was experiencing sexual impurity and I did not have water.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Go and use the desert sand, for it will suffice you.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled, and the people complained to him about their thirst. So he descended and called for so and so, who was known as Abu Rajaa, and Owf forgot about him, and he called for Ali. He said, 'Go and fetch us water.' So they met a woman carrying water on a camel. They said to her, 'Where is the water?' She said, 'I made a promise to provide water at this hour yesterday, but we are out.' They said, 'Then go,' and she said, 'Where to?' They said, 'To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' She said, 'Is this the one they call As-Saabi?' They said, 'Yes, that is the one.' So they brought her to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him about it. He (the narrator) said, 'They dismounted her from her camel, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a container and emptied the water from the mouths of the two water skins. He splashed their openings and released the knot of the water container. Then he called out to the people to drink. So he gave water to whomever he wished and they drank. Finally, he said to the one who had experienced sexual impurity, 'Go, and may it suffice you.' He said, 'By Allah, it did indeed relieve me of the need, but it seems to us that the water was more plentiful than when we first started. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Gather food for her.' So he collected some dates, flour, and barley until they had gathered a lot of food. They placed it in a garment and carried it on her camel. And they placed the garment between her hands. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, 'You know that we did not take anything of your water, but it was Allah who provided it for us.' She went to her people, and they asked her, 'What detained you, O so and so?' She said, 'It is amazing, two men met me and took me to the one they call As-Saabi, and he did such and such to me. [Machine] "We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we reached the late hours of the night and then encountered that incident. There is no better incident for a traveler than that. None of us woke up except due to the intense heat of the sun that had risen. Fulan and Fulan awoke, and Abu Rajaa' used to call them by that name, but they were known as 'Awf. Then Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not be awakened until he himself woke up, for we did not know what would happen to him in his sleep. So when Umar woke up and saw what had happened to the people, he raised his voice with takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) continuously. He continued to do so until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up with his voice. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up, those affected complained to him and he said, 'It is of no harm, so continue on.' He then continued on, and went a short distance before descending. He called for wudu (ablution) and performed it. Then the call to prayer was made, and he led the people in prayer. When he finished his prayer, he noticed a man who had separated himself and did not pray with the rest of the people. He asked him, 'What prevented you, O so-and-so, from praying with the people?' The man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I was in a state of janaba (sexual impurity) and had no water.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him, 'Go to the desert, for it will be sufficient for you.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued on. The people complained to him of thirst, so he descended and called upon Fulan, whom Abu Rajaa' used to call, and he forgot his name, and Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, 'Go and bring water.' They set off and met a woman between two hills or valleys with a water container on the back of her camel. They asked her, 'Where is the water?' She replied, 'I made a vow with this water yesterday at this hour, and now we have run out.' They said to her, 'Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' She asked, 'Is this the one they call As-Saabi?' They replied, 'Yes, it is.' So she set off with them and they brought her to the Prophet ﷺ . He called for a container and poured the water from the mouths of the two hills or valleys into it. Then he placed their mouths back and released the 'Azaliyyah water (rainwater that has gathered in a valley) and called out to the people, 'Come and drink.' He then gave water to whoever he wished. This incident concluded with him giving the one affected by janaba a container of water and saying, 'Go and pour it over yourself.' He said, 'By Allah, it felt as if the liquid was being taken away from me while I was pouring it over my body.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, 'Gather some food for her.' So they gathered dates, figs, barley, and wheat for her until they had collected a large amount of food. They placed it in a cloth and carried it on her camel. They placed the cloth containing the food in front of her and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, 'You know, by Allah, that we did not take any of your water. Rather, it is Allah who provided it for us.'"
