[Machine] I was with Abdullah and Abu Musa, and Abu Musa said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, if a person is in a state of major impurity and cannot find water, should they still perform prayer?" Abdullah replied, "Listen to the saying of Ammar ibn Yasir to Umar. The Prophet ﷺ sent both of us, and I was in a state of major impurity. Therefore, I performed dry ablution and joined the Prophet ﷺ. I informed him about my condition, and he said, 'That is enough for you.' He then wiped his face and hands once. I have never seen Umar disagreeing with that ruling. Umar said, 'How will you deal with this verse: 'And if you do not find water, then perform tayammum with pure earth'?' Umar said, 'If we permit them to perform tayammum in this situation, one of them, when finding cold water, will wipe himself with earth.' Al-A'mash said, 'So I said to my brother, Umar disliked it only because of this reason.'"
