[Machine] I was sitting with Abdullah and Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari, and Abu Musa said to Abdullah, "If a person cannot find water, should they not pray?" Abdullah replied, "No." Abu Musa then said, "Do you not remember when 'Ammaar said to Umar, 'Do you not remember when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent both of us with some camels, and I experienced janabah (major ritual impurity) and I rolled in the sand? When I returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him, he laughed and said, 'It would have been sufficient for you to do this,' and he struck his hands on the ground and wiped them and made one wiping on his face with one strike?" Abdullah replied, "No doubt, I never saw Umar satisfied with that." Abu Musa said, "How about this verse from Surah An-Nisa, 'And if you do not find water, then seek clean earth.'?" Abdullah replied, "Abdullah did not know what to say, and he said, 'If we allowed them to perform Tayammum (dry ablution) in such a situation, one of them might not perform Tayammum if water dripped on their skin.' Affaan said, 'Yahya, the son of Sa'id, disagreed with him.' So I asked Hafs bin Ghiyyath, who said, 'Al-A'mash narrated to us from Salamah bin Kuhail, who mentioned Abu Wa'il.'"
