ذِكْرُ إِبَاحَةِ التَّيَمُّمِ لِلْعَلِيلِ الْوَاجِدِ الْمَاءَ إِذَا خَافَ التَّلَفَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بِاسْتِعْمَالِهِ الْمَاءَ

[Machine] "A man became impure in the state of irremediable impurity during the winter. He asked for permission to perform ghusl (ritual washing) but passed away before being able to do so. When this was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ , he said, 'Why didn't they let him perform tayammum (dry ablution)? Allah has made the earth a means of purification in place of water.'"  

ابن حبّان:١٣١٤أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ أَنَّ عَطَاءً عَمَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَجْنَبَ فِي شِتَاءٍ فَسَأَلَ فَأُمِرَ بِالْغُسْلِ فَمَاتَ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا لَهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ؟ قَتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ ثَلَاثًا قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ الصَّعِيدَ أَوِ التَّيَمُّمَ طَهُورًا»

[Machine] A man became unwell during winter, so he asked if he could perform ablution (washing). He then performed the ablution and passed away. The Prophet ﷺ was informed of this incident and he said, "Why did they kill him? Allah has killed them all." He repeated this thrice and added, "Allah has made the desert or dry ablution (tayammum) sufficient for purification."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَجْنَبَ فِي شِتَاءٍ فَسَأَلَ وَأُمِرَ بِالْغُسْلِ فَاغْتَسَلَ فَمَاتَ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا لَهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ قَتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ» ثَلَاثًا «قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ الصَّعِيدَ أَوِ التَّيَمُّمَ طَهُورًا»  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ فَإِنَّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ وَهُوَ قَلِيلُ الْحَدِيثِ جِدًّا» وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَهُوَ مُخَرَّجٌ بَعْدَ هَذَا وَلَهُ شَاهِدٌ آخَرُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍصحيح

[Machine] A man became ill in the winter and asked for permission to wash himself, so he washed himself and then died. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ and he said, "Why did they kill him? Allah has killed them three times. Allah has made the vast desert or Tayammum a means of purification." This is a connected hadith, and the completion of this story is found in the hadith transmitted by Al-Awza'i from 'Ata.
