from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that when he used to stand up for Ṣalāh, he said: "I turn my face in complete devotion to One Who is the Originator of the heaven and the earth and I am not of the polytheists. Verily my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; There is no partner with Him and this is what I have been commanded (to profess and believe) and I am of the believers. O Allah, Thou art the King, there is no god but Thee, Thou art my Lord, and I am Thy bondman. I wronged myself and make a confession of my Sin. Forgive all my sins, for no one forgives the sins but Thee, and guide me in the best of conduct for none but Thee guideth anyone (in) good conduct. Remove sins from me, for none else but Thou can remove sins from me. Here I am at Thy service, and Grace is to Thee and the whole of good is in Thine hand, and one cannot get nearness to Thee through evil. My (power as well as existence) is due to Thee (Thine grace) and I turn to Thee (for supplication). Thou art blessed and Thou art exalted. I seek forgiveness from Thee and turn to Thee in repentance."

And when he would bow, he would say: "O Allah, it is for Thee that I bowed. I affirm my faith in Thee and I submit to Thee, and submit humbly before Thee my hearing, my eyesight, my marrow, my bone, my sinew; and when he would raise his head, he would say: O Allah, our Lord, praise is due to Thee, (the praise) with which is filled the heavens and the earth, and with which is filled that (space) which exists between them, and filled with anything that Thou desireth afterward. And when he prostrated himself, he (the Holy Prophet) would say: O Allah, it is to Thee that I prostrate myself and it is in Thee that I affirm my faith, and I submit to Thee. My face is submitted before One Who created it, and shaped it, and opened his faculties of hearing and seeing. Blessed is Allah, the best of Creators; and he would then say between Tashahhud and the pronouncing of salutation: Forgive me of the earlier and later open and secret (sins) and that where I made transgression and that Thou knowest better than I. Thou art the First and the Last. There is no god, but Thee."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ: «وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ؛ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ۔ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ؛ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ۔ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا؛ إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ۔ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ، لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ؛ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا، لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ۔ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ، وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ، أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ، تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ۔»

وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي وَعَصَبِي وَإِذَا رَفَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ۔»

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for prayer, he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great), then said: I have turned my face, breaking with all others, towards Him Who created the heavens and the earth, and I am not a polytheist. My prayer and my devotion, my life and my death belong to Allah, the Lord of the Universe, Who has no partner. That is what I have been commanded, and I am first of Muslims (those who surrender themselves). O Allah, Thou art the King. There is no God but Thee. Thou art my Lord and I am Thy servant. I have wronged myself, but I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me all my sins; Thou Who alone canst forgive sins; and guide me to the best qualities. Thou Who alone canst guide to the best of them; and turn me from evil ones. Thou who alone canst turn from evil qualities. I come to serve and please Thee. All good is in Thy Hands, and evil does not pertain to Thee. I seek refuge in Thee and turn to Thee, Who art blessed and exalted. I ask Thy forgiveness and turn to thee in repentance. When he bowed, he said: O Allah, to Thee I bow, in Thee I trust, and to Thee I submit myself. My hearing, my sight, my brain, my bone and my sinews humble themselves before Thee. When he raised his head, he said: Allah listens to him who praises Him. O our lord, and all praises be to Thee in the whole of the heavens and the earth, and what is between them, and in whatever Thou creates afterwards. When he prostrated himself, he said: O Allah, to Thee I prostrate myself, to Thee I trust, and to Thee I submit myself. My face prostrated itself before Him Who created it, fashioned it, and fashioned it in the best shape, and brought forth its hearing and seeing. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators. When he saluted at the end of the prayer, he said: O Allah, forgive me my former and my latter sins, my open and secret sins, my sins in exceeding the limits, and what Thou knowest better than I. Thou art He Who puts forward and puts back. There is deity but Thee.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ لِي إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لاَ يَصْرِفُ سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي وَإِذَا رَفَعَ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ فَأَحْسَنَ صُورَتَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ وَإِذَا سَلَّمَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَالْمُؤَخِّرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

“I have directed my face towards the One who created the Heavens and the earth, as a Hanif, and I am not of the idolaters. Indeed, my Salat, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying is for Allah, the Lord of all that exists, there is no partner for Him, and with this have I been ordered, and I am among the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King, there is none worthy of worship except You. You are My Lord, and I am Your slave, I have wronged myself, and I admit to my sin, so forgive me all my sins, verily, there is none who forgives sins but You. And guide me to the best of the manners, none guides to the best of them except You, and turn the evil of them away from me, [verily,] none can turn the evil of them away from me except You. I have believed in You. Blessed are You and Exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to you (Wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhī faṭaras-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wa mā ana min al-mushrikīn, inna ṣalātī wa nusukī wa maḥyāya wa mamātī lillāhi rabbil-ʿālamīn, lā sharīka lahū wa bidhālika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimīn. Allāhumma antal-maliku lā ilāha illā ant, anta rabbī, wa ana ʿabduka ẓalamtu nafsī waʿtaraftu bidhanbī faghfirlī dhunūbī jamīʿan, innahū lā yaghfir adh-dhunūba illā ant. Wahdinī li-aḥsanil-akhlāqi lā yahdī li-aḥsanihā illā ant. Waṣrif ʿannī sayyi’ahā [innahū] lā yaṣrifu ʿannī sayyi’aha illā ant. Āmantu bika tabārakta wa taʿālaita astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilaik).” And when he would bow in Rukuʿ, he would say: “O Allah, to You I have bowed, and in You I believe, and to You have I submitted. My hearing, my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinew are humbled to you (Allāhumma laka rakaʿtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu. Khashaʿa laka samʿī wa baṣarī wa mukhkhī wa ʿiẓāmī, wa ʿaṣabī)” Then when he would raise his head, he would say: “O Allah, our Lord, to You is praise the fill of the Heavens and the earths and the fill of whatever You will of things. (Allāhumma rabbanā lakal-ḥamdu mil’as-samāwāti wal-arḍīna wa mā bainahumā, wa mil’a mā shi’ta min shay’in baʿd).” Then, when he prostrated, he would say: “O Allah, to You have I prostrated, and in You have I believed, and to You have I submitted, my face has prostrated to the One Who created it and fashioned it, and gave it its hearing and its sight. So Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators (Allāhumma laka sajadtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu, sajada wajhi lilladhī khalaqahū fa ṣuwwarahū wa shaqqa samʿahū wa baṣarahū fatabārak Allāhu ahsanul-khāliqīn).” Then the last of what he would say between At-Tashah-hud and As-Salam would be: “O Allah, forgive me what I have done before and after, and what I have hidden and what I have done openly, and what You know more of it than I, You are the One who sends forth and the One who delays, there is none worthy of worship except You. (Allāhummaghfirlī mā qaddamtu wa mā akhkhartu wa mā asrartu wa mā aʿlantu wa mā anta aʿlamu bihī minnī antal-Muqaddimu wa antal-Mu’akhkhiru, lā ilāha illā ant).”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ آمَنْتُ بِكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرَضِينَ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ فَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ فَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ آخِرَ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالسَّلاَمِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to you (Wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhī faṭaras-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wa mā ana min al-mushrikīn, inna ṣalātī wa nusukī wa maḥyāya wa mamātī lillāhi rabbil-ʿālamīn, lā sharīka lahū wa bidhālika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimīn. Allāhumma antal-maliku lā ilāha illā ant, anta rabbī, wa ana ʿabduka ẓalamtu nafsī waʿtaraftu bidhanbī faghfirlī dhunūbī jamīʿan, innahū lā yaghfir adh-dhunūba illā ant. Wahdinī li-aḥsanil-akhlāqi lā yahdī li-aḥsanihā illā ant. Waṣrif ʿannī sayyi’ahā lā yaṣrifu ʿannī sayyi’aha illā ant. Labaika wa saʿdaika wal-khairu kulluhū fī yadaika, wash-sharru laisa ilaik, tabārakta wa taʿālaita astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilaik).” And when he would bow in Ruku he would say: “O Allah, to You have I bowed, and in You have I believed, and to You have I submitted. My hearing, my sight, my bones, and my sinew are humbled to you (Allāhumma laka rakaʿtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu. Khashaʿa laka samʿī wa baṣarī wa ʿiẓāmī, wa ʿaṣabī).” And when he would rise he would say: “O Allah, our Lord, to You is praise filling the heaven and filling the earth, and filling what is between them, and filling whatever You have wished of things afterward (Allāhumma rabbanā lakal-ḥamdu mil’as-samāwāti wa mil’al-arḍ wa mil’a mā bainahumā, wa mil’a mā shi’ta min shay’in baʿd).” Then, when he prostrated, he would say: “O Allah, to You have I prostrated, and in You have I believed, and to You have I submitted (in Islam), my face has prostrated to the One Who created it, and fashioned it, and gave it its hearing and sight, [so] Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators (Allāhumma laka sajadtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu, sajada wajhi lilladhī khalaqahū fa ṣuwwarahū wa shaqqa samʿahū wa baṣarahū fatabārak Allāhu ahsanul-khāliqīn).” Then the last of what he would say between At-Tashahud and At-Taslim was: “O Allah, forgive me what I have done, before and after, and what I have hidden, and what I have done openly, and what I have transgressed the limit in, and what You know about more than me, You are the One Who sends forth and the One Who delays, there is none worthy of worship except You (Allāhummaghfirlī mā qaddamtu wa mā akhkhartu wa mā asrartu wa mā aʿlantu wa mā asraftu wa mā anta aʿlamu bihī minnī antal-Muqaddimu wa antal-Mu’akhkhiru, lā ilāha illā ant).”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي فَإِذَا رَفَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاءِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ فَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ فَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

when the Messenger of Allah would stand for the obligatory prayer, he would raise his hands to the level of his shoulder, and he would do this [also] when he finished his recitation and intended to bow, and he would do it when he raised his head from Rukuʿ, and he would not raise his hands in any of his prayers while he was seated. When he would rise from the two prostrations, he would likewise raise his hands, and say the Takbir, and when he opened his Salat after the Takbir, he would say: “I have directed my face towards the One who has created the heavens and the earth, as a Hanif, and I am not of the idolaters. Indeed, my Salat, my sacrifice, my living, my dying, is for Allah, the Lord of all that exists, without partner, and with this have I been ordered and I am of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King, there is none worthy of worship except You. Glorified are You, You are My Lord, and I am Your slave, I have wronged myself and I admit to my sin, so forgive me all my sins, verily, there is none who forgives sins but You, and guide me to the best of manners, none guides to the best of them except You, and turn away from me the evil of them, none turns away from me the evil of them except You, I am here in Your obedience and aiding Your cause, and I am reliant upon You and ever-turning towards You, [and] there is no refuge from You nor hiding place from You except (going) to You, I seek Your forgiveness, and I repent to you (Wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhī faṭaras-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wa mā ana min al-mushrikīn, inna ṣalātī wa nusukī wa maḥyāya wa mamātī lillāhi rabbil-ʿālamīn, lā sharīka lahū wa bidhālika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimīn. Allāhumma antal-maliku lā ilāha illā ant, subḥānaka anta rabbī, wa ana ʿabduka ẓalamtu nafsī waʿtaraftu bidhanbī faghfirlī dhunūbī jamīʿan, innahū lā yaghfir adh-dhunūba illā ant. Wahdinī li-aḥsanil-akhlāqi lā yahdī li-aḥsanihā illā ant. Waṣrif ʿannī sayyi’ahā lā yaṣrifu ʿannī sayyi’aha illā ant. Labaika wa saʿdaika, wa ana bika wa ilaika, [wa] lā manjā minka wa lā malja’a illā ilaik, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilaik).” Then he would recite, then when he would bow, his speech in his Rukuʿ, would be to say: “O Allah, to You have I bowed, and in You have I believed, and to You have I submitted (in Islam), and You are my Lord. My hearing, my sight, my brain and my bones are humbled to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds all that exists (Allāhumma laka rakaʿtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu wa anta rabb ī. Khashaʿa samʿī wa baṣarī wa mukhkhī wa ʿaẓmī lillāhi, rabbil-ʿālamīn).” Then, when he raised his head from Ruku he would say: “Allah hears the one who praises him (Samiʿa Allāhu liman ḥamidah).” Then he would follow it with: “O Allah, our Lord, to You is praise filling the heavens and the earth and filling whatever You wish of things afterward (Allāhumma rabbanā wa lakal-ḥamdu mil’as-samāwāti wal-arḍi, wa mil’a mā shi’ta min shay’in baʿd.).” Then, when prostrated he would say in his prostration: “O Allah, to You have I prostrated, and in You have I believed, and to You have I submitted (in Islam), and You are my Lord, my face has prostrated to the One that created it, and granted its hearing and sight, Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators (Allāhumma laka sajadtu wa bika āmantu wa laka aslamtu wa anta rabbī, sajada wajhi lilladhī khalaqahū wa shaqqa samʿahū wa baṣarahū, tabārak Allāhu ahsanul-khāliqīn).” When he was finished with his Salat, we would say: “O Allah, forgive me what I have done, before and after, and what I have hidden, and what I have done openly, and You are my Deity, there is none worthy of worship except You (Allāhummaghfirlī mā qaddamtu wa mā akhkhartu wa mā asrartu wa mā aʿlantu, wa anta ilāhī lā ilāha illā ant).”

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ وَيَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا إِذَا قَضَى قِرَاءَتَهُ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ وَيَصْنَعُهَا إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ وَلاَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ صَلاَتِهِ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ كَذَلِكَ فَكَبَّرَ وَيَقُولُ حِينَ يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلاَةَ بَعْدَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَأَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ وَلاَ مَنْجَا مِنْكَ وَلاَ مَلْجَأَ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ كَانَ كَلاَمُهُ فِي رُكُوعِهِ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَأَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ثُمَّ يُتْبِعُهَا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ فِي سُجُودِهِ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَأَنْتَ رَبِّي سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ وَيَقُولُ عِنْدَ انْصِرَافِهِ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ أَنْتَ إِلَهِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ الشَّافِعِيِّ وَبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا

Ibn ʿAbbas said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when ʿAli bin Abi Talib came to him, and he said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you! This Qur’an has suddenly left my heart, and I do not find myself capable of it.’ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: ‘O Abul-Hasan! Should I not teach you words that Allah shall benefit you with, and benefit whomever you teach, and they will make whatever you have learned in your chest firm?’ He said: ‘Of course, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so teach me.’ He ﷺ said: ‘When it is the night of (before) Friday, then if you are able to stand in the last third of the night, then verily it is a witnessed hour, and supplication is answered in it. And my brother Yaʿqub (as) did say to his sons: I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He said: “Until the night of Friday comes.” So if you are not able, then stand in the middle of it, and if you are not able then stand in the first of it. And pray four Rakʿah. Recite Fatihatul-Kitab (the Opening of the Book) and Surat Ya-Sin in the first Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Ha-Mim Ad-Dukhan in the second Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Alif Lam Mim Tanzil As-Sajdah in the third Rakʿah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Tabarak Al-Mufassal in the fourth Rakʿah. So when you have finished with the Tasha-hud, then praise Allah and mention Allah’s greatness in an excellent manner, and send Salat upon me - and be excellent in it - and upon the rest of the Prophets. And seek forgiveness for the believing men and the believing women, and for your brothers who have preceded you in faith. Then say in the end of that: “O Allah, have mercy on me by abandonment of sins forever, so long as You keep me remaining. And have mercy on me from taking upon myself what does not concern me, and provide me good sight for what will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to make my heart constant in remembering Your Book as You taught me, and grant me that I recite it in the manner that will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to enlighten my sight with Your Book, and make my tongue free with it, and to relieve my heart with it, and to expand my chest with it, and to wash my body with it. For indeed, none aids me upon the truth other than You, and none gives it except You, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the High, the Magnificent. (Allāhummarḥamnī bitarkil-maʿāṣī abadan mā abqaitanī, warḥamnī an atakallafa mā lā yaʿnīnī, warzuqnī ḥusnan-naẓari fī mā yurḍīka ʿannī. Allāhumma badīʿas-samāwāti wal-arḍi dhal-jalāli wal-ikrāmi wal-ʿizzatil-latī lā turāmu, as’aluka yā Allāhu yā Raḥmānu bi-jalālika wa nūri wajhika, an tulzima qalbī ḥifẓa kitābika kamā ʿallamtanī, warzuqnī an atluwahū ʿalan-naḥwil-ladhī yurḍīka ʿannī. Allāhumma badīʿas-samāwāti wal arḍi dhal-jalāli wal-ikrāmi wal ʿizzati-llatī lā turāmu, as’aluka yā Allāhu, yā Raḥmānu bi-jalālika wa nūri wajhika, an tunawwira bi-kitābika baṣarī, wa an tuṭliqa bihī lisānī, wa an tufarrija bihī ʿan qalbī, wa an tashraḥa bihī ṣadrī, wa an taghsila bihī badanī, fa innahu lā yuʿīnunī ʿalal-ḥaqqi ghairuka wa lā yu’tīhi illā anta wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhil-ʿAliyyil-ʿAẓīm).” O Abul-Hasan! So do this three Fridays, or five, or seven, you will be answered - by the will of Allah - by the One Who sent me with the Truth, it has not failed a believer once.’” ʿAbdullah bin ʿAbbas said: “So, by Allah, ʿAli did not wait but five or seven until [ʿAli] came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a gathering similar to that and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, indeed I was [a man] in the time that passed, who used to not take except four Ayat or about that much, so when I would recite them to myself they would suddenly depart from me, and today I learn forty Ayat or about that much, and when I recite them to myself, then it is as if the Book of Allah is before my eyes. I used to hear a Hadith and when I would repeat it, it would suddenly depart from me, and today I hear Ahadith, and when I report them, I do not err in a single letter.’ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said at that point: ‘A believer, by the Lord of the Kaʿbah, O Abul-Hasan.’”

بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذْ جَاءَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالَ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي تَفَلَّتَ هَذَا الْقُرْآنُ مِنْ صَدْرِي فَمَا أَجِدُنِي أَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ أَفَلاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ يَنْفَعُكَ اللَّهُ بِهِنَّ وَيَنْفَعُ بِهِنَّ مَنْ عَلَّمْتَهُ وَيُثَبِّتُ مَا تَعَلَّمْتَ فِي صَدْرِكَ قَالَ أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَعَلِّمْنِي قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَقُومَ فِي ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرِ فَإِنَّهَا سَاعَةٌ مَشْهُودَةٌ وَالدُّعَاءُ فِيهَا مُسْتَجَابٌ وَقَدْ قَالَ أَخِي يَعْقُوبُ لِبَنِيهِ (سوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّي ) يَقُولُ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ لَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَقُمْ فِي وَسَطِهَا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَقُمْ فِي أَوَّلِهَا فَصَلِّ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ تَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُولَى بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةِ يس وَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَ( حم ) الدُّخَانَ وَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَالم تَنْزِيلُ السَّجْدَةَ وَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الرَّابِعَةِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَبَارَكَ الْمُفَصَّلَ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ مِنَ التَّشَهُّدِ فَاحْمَدِ اللَّهَ وَأَحْسِنِ الثَّنَاءَ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَصَلِّ عَلَىَّ وَأَحْسِنْ وَعَلَى سَائِرِ النَّبِيِّينَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلإِخْوَانِكَ الَّذِينَ سَبَقُوكَ بِالإِيمَانِ ثُمَّ قُلْ فِي آخِرِ ذَلِكَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي بِتَرْكِ الْمَعَاصِي أَبَدًا مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي وَارْحَمْنِي أَنْ أَتَكَلَّفَ مَا لاَ يَعْنِينِي وَارْزُقْنِي حُسْنَ النَّظَرِ فِيمَا يُرْضِيكَ عَنِّي اللَّهُمَّ بَدِيعَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ وَالْعِزَّةِ الَّتِي لاَ تُرَامُ أَسْأَلُكَ يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَنُ بِجَلاَلِكَ وَنُورِ وَجْهِكَ أَنْ تُلْزِمَ قَلْبِي حِفْظَ كِتَابِكَ كَمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَارْزُقْنِي أَنْ أَتْلُوَهُ عَلَى النَّحْوِ الَّذِي يُرْضِيكَ عَنِّي اللَّهُمَّ بَدِيعَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ وَالْعِزَّةِ الَّتِي لاَ تُرَامُ أَسْأَلُكَ يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَنُ بِجَلاَلِكَ وَنُورِ وَجْهِكَ أَنْ تُنَوِّرَ بِكِتَابِكَ بَصَرِي وَأَنْ تُطْلِقَ بِهِ لِسَانِي وَأَنْ تُفَرِّجَ بِهِ عَنْ قَلْبِي وَأَنْ تَشْرَحَ بِهِ صَدْرِي وَأَنْ تَغْسِلَ بِهِ بَدَنِي لأَنَّهُ لاَ يُعِينُنِي عَلَى الْحَقِّ غَيْرُكَ وَلاَ يُؤْتِيهِ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ ثَلاَثَ جُمَعٍ أَوْ خَمْسَ أَوْ سَبْعَ تُجَابُ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ مَا أَخْطَأَ مُؤْمِنًا قَطُّ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا لَبِثَ عَلِيٌّ إِلاَّ خَمْسًا أَوْ سَبْعًا حَتَّى جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي مِثْلِ ذَلِكَ الْمَجْلِسِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ فِيمَا خَلاَ لاَ آخُذُ إِلاَّ أَرْبَعَ آيَاتٍ أَوْ نَحْوَهُنَّ وَإِذَا قَرَأْتُهُنَّ عَلَى نَفْسِي تَفَلَّتْنَ وَأَنَا أَتَعَلَّمُ الْيَوْمَ أَرْبَعِينَ آيَةً أَوْ نَحْوَهَا وَإِذَا قَرَأْتُهَا عَلَى نَفْسِي فَكَأَنَّمَا كِتَابُ اللَّهِ بَيْنَ عَيْنَىَّ وَلَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ الْحَدِيثَ فَإِذَا رَدَّدْتُهُ تَفَلَّتَ وَأَنَا الْيَوْمَ أَسْمَعُ الأَحَادِيثَ فَإِذَا تَحَدَّثْتُ بِهَا لَمْ أَخْرِمْ مِنْهَا حَرْفًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: "Wajahtu wajhi lilladhi fataras-samawatiwal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin. Inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi rabbil-alamin, la sharika lahu, wa bidhalika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimin. Allahumma! Antal-maliku la ilaha illa ant, ana abduka zalamtu nafsi wa'taraftu bidhanbi faghfirli dhunubi jami'an, la yaghfirudhunuba illa anta, wahdini lihasanil-ahklaqi, la yahdi li ahsaniha illa anta wasrif anni sayy'aha la yasrifu anni sayy'aha illa anta, labaika wa sa'daika, wal-khairu kulluhu fi yadaika wash-sharru laisa ilaika ana bika wa ilaika ana bika wa ilaika tabarkta wa ta'alaita astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik. (Verily, I have turned my face toward Him who created the Heavens and the Earth hanifa (worhsipping none but Allah Alone), and I am not of the idolaters. Verily, my salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the Sovereign and there is none worthy of worship but You. I am Your slave, I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin. Forgive me all my sins for no one forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You. I am at Your service, all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I rely on You and turn to You, blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: "Wajahtu wajhi lilladhi fataras-samawatiwal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin. Inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi rabbil-alamin, la sharika lahu, wa bidhalika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimin. Allahumma! كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ»

ʿI have turned my face in submission to the One who originated the heavens and the earth, as a monotheist and a Muslim, and I am not one of the mushrikeen. Verily, my Salah (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists). He has no partner, And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims [Abun-Nadr said: and I am the first of the Muslims]. O Allah, there is no god but You. You are my Lord and I am Your slave. I have wronged myself and I admit my sin, so forgive me all my sins, for no one can forgive sins except You. Guide me to the best of conduct, for none can guide to that except You and divert from me bad conduct, for no one can divert it from me except You. Blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.” When he bowed, he said: ʿO Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My hearing my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinews submit to You.ʿ When he rose from bowing he said: ʿAllah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You be praise, filling the heavens, the earth and that which is between them and filling whatever else You will besides.” When he prostrated he said: “O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One Who created it, shaped it and gave it a good shape, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.ʿ Then he after said the salam at the end of the prayer: ʿO Allah, forgive me my past and future sins, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, what I have transgressed and what You know more than I. You are the One Who brings forward and the One Who puts back, there is no god but You.ʿ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا كَبَّرَ اسْتَفْتَحَ ثُمَّقَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وقَالَ أَبُو النَّضْرِ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلا أَنْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَكَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرَّكْعَةِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ فَصَوَّرَهُ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ فَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ فَإِذَا سَلَّمَ مِنَ الصَّلاةِ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ

Blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.ʿ When he bowed, he said: ʿO Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My hearing, my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinews submit to You.ʿ When he rose from bowing he said: “Allah hears the one who praises Him. O Allah our Lord, to You be praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, filling that which is between them and filling whatever else You will besides.ʿ When he prostrated he said: “O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One Who created it and gave it shape and gave it the best of shapes, and opened its hearing and sight, Blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.ʿ When he had finished praying he said: ʿO Allah, forgive me my past and future sins, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, what I have transgressed and what You know more than I. You are the One who brings forward and the One Who puts back, there is no god but You.ʿ ʿAbdullah said: We heard from Ishaq bin Rahawaih, from an-Nadr bin Shumail, that he said concerning this hadeeth, instead of, ʿevil cannot be attributed to You,” he said: Evil cannot be used to draw close to You. It was narrated from ʿAli bin Abi Talib ؓ , from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that When he began to pray, he said takbeer, then he said, ʿI have turned my face.ʿ - and he narrated a similar report, except that he said ʿand divert from me the worst of conduct.” A similar report was narrated from Al-Aʿraj, from ʿUbaidullah bin Abi Rafiʿ, from ʿAli bin Abi Talib ؓ , from the Prophet ﷺ.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلاةَ يُكَبِّرُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلاقِ لَايَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلا أَنْتَ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ فَتَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الصَّلاةِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ قَالَ بَلَغَنَا عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِشُمَيْلٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ لَا يُتَقَرَّبُ بِالشَّرِّ إِلَيْك

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him a supplication and commanded him to recite it with his family every day. He said: Say, when you wake up in the morning, "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaik wassa'daik, Wal khairu fi yadaiq, waminka, wabika, ilaika, Allahumma ma qultu min qawl, aw nadhartu min nadhr, aw halaftu min halaf, fashayatta bayna yadayka, ma shi'ta kana, wa ma lam tasha' lam yakun, wala hawla wala quwwata illa bika, innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer, Allahumma wa ma sallaytu min salatin, fa'ala man sallayta, wa ma la'antu min la'nat, fa'ala man la'anta. Innaka anta Waliyyi fi d-dunya wa 'l-akhirah, tawaffani musliman, wa alhiqni bi-salihin. As'aluka Allahumma ar-rida ba'da 'l-qada, wa barda 'l- 'ayshi ba'da 'l-mamat, wa ladhdhata nadhar ila wajhik, wa shawqan ila liqa'ika min ghayri dhirra'a mudhirra, wa la fitnatin mudilla. A'udhu bika Allahumma an a-dhlima, aw u-thlam, aw a-taddiya, aw yu'tadda 'alayya, aw aktasiba khati'atan muhbita, aw dhamban la yughfar. Allahumma Fatir as-samawati wal-ardi 'alima al-ghaybi, wa'sh-shahadati, dha al-jalali wa'l-ikram, fa inni ahadu ilayka fi hadhi 'l-hayati 'd-dunya wa ushhiduka wa kafa bika shahidan anni ashhadu annahu la ilaha illa anta wahdaka la sharika laka, laka al-mulk wa laka al-hamd, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer. Wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduka wa rasuluka, wa ashhadu anna wa'daka haqqun, wa liqa'uka haqqun, wa l-jannata haqqun, wa's-sa'ata atiyatun la rayba fiha wa anta tub'athu man fi'l-qubur. Wa ashhadu annaka in takilni ila nafsi takilni ila day'ah wa 'awrati wahadiban wa khateehatan, wa inni la athiqu illa bi-rahmatika, fa'ghfir li dhambika kullah, innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhunuba illa anta, wa tub 'alayya, innaka anta at-tawwabu ar-rahim.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُ دُعَاءً وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَعَاهَدَ بِهِ أَهْلَهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قَالَ قُلْ حِينَ تُصْبِحُ لَبَّيْكَ اللهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْكَ وَبِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ اللهُمَّ مَا قُلْتُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ نَذَرْتُ مِنْ نَذْرٍ أَوْ حَلَفْتُ مِنْ حَلِفٍ فَمَشِيئَتُكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مَا شِئْتَ كَانَ وَمَا لَمْ تَشَأْ لَمْ يَكُنْ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ اللهُمَّ وَمَا صَلَّيْتُ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ صَلَّيْتَ وَمَا لَعَنْتُ مِنْ لَعْنَةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ لَعَنْتَ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ أَسْأَلُكَ اللهُمَّ الرِّضَا بَعْدَ الْقَضَاءِ وَبَرْدَ الْعَيْشِ بَعْدَ الْمَمَاتِ وَلَذَّةَ نَظَرٍ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ وَشَوْقًا إِلَى لِقَائِكَ مِنْ غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ أَعُوذُ بِكَ اللهُمَّ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ أَوْ أَعْتَدِيَ أَوْ يُعْتَدَى عَلَيَّ أَوْ أَكْتَسِبَ خَطِيئَةً مُحْبِطَةً أَوْ ذَنْبًا لَا يُغْفَرُ اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ فَإِنِّي أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَأُشْهِدُكَ وَكَفَى بِكَ شَهِيدًا أَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَكَ الْمُلْكُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌوَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ وَعْدَكَ حَقٌّ وَلِقَاءَكَ حَقٌّ وَالْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ وَالسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنْتَ تَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ إِنْ تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي تَكِلْنِي إِلَى ضَيْعَةٍ وَعَوْرَةٍ وَذَنْبٍ وَخَطِيئَةٍ وَإِنِّي لَا أَثِقُ إِلَّا بِرَحْمَتِكَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi rabbil-alamin, la sharika lahu, wa bidhalika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimin. Allahumma! When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: "Wajahtu wajhi lilladhi fataras-samawatiwal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin. أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعَلِّمَكُمْ مَا جَهِلْتُمْ مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِي يَوْمِي هَذَا أَلَا إِنَّ كُلَّ مَالٍ نَحَلْتَهُ عِبَادِي حَلَالًا وَإِنِّي خَلَقْتُ عِبَادِي حُنَفَاءَ كُلَّهُمْ وَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ أَتَتْهُمْ فَاجْتَالَتْهُمْ عَنْ دمَا أَحْلَلْتُ لرَّمَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ مَاأَحْلَلْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَمَرَتْهُمْ أَنْ يُشْرِكُوا بِي مَا لَمْ أُنْزِلْ بِهِ سُلْطَانًا وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى اطَّلَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ فَمَقَتَهُمْ عَرَبَهُمْ وَعَجَمَهُمْ غَيْرَ بَقَايَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُكَ لِأَبْتَلِيَكَ وَأَبْتَلِيَ بِكَ وَأَنْزَلْتُ عَلَيْكَ كِتَابًا لَا يَغْسِلُهُ الْمَاءُ تَقْرَؤُهُ نَائِمًا وَيَقْظَانًا وَإِنَّ رَبِّي تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُحَرِّقَ قُرَيْشًا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ إِذَا يَثْلَغُوا رَأْسِي فَيَدَعُوهُ خُبْزَةً قَالَ اسْتَخْرِجْهُمْ كَمَا اسْتَخْرَجُوكَ وَأَنْفِقْ أُنْفِقْ عَلَيْكَ وَابْعَثْ جَيْشًا أَبْعَثْ خَمْسَةَ أَمْثَالِهِمْ وَقَاتِلْ بِمَنْ أَطَاعَكَ مَنْ عَصَاكَ وَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ثَلَاثَةٌ ذُو سُلْطَانٍ مُقْسِطٌ مُصَدِّقٌ مُوَفَّقٌ وَرَجُلٌ رَقِيقُ الْقَلْبِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَرَجُلٌ عَفِيفٌ مُتَصَدِّقٌ وَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ خَمْسَةٌ رَجُلٌ لَا يَخْفَى لَهُ طَمَعٌ إِلَّا خَانَهُ وَرَجُلٌ لَا يُمْسِي وَلَا يُصْبِحُ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُخَادِعُكَ عَنْ أَهْلِكِ وَمَالِكَ وَالضَّعِيفُ الَّذِي لَا زَبْرَ لَهُ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِيكُمْ تَبَعٌ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَمِنَ الْمَوَالِي هُوَ أَمْ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ ؟ قَالَ هُوَ التَّابِعَةُ يَتْبَعُ الرَّجُلَ فَيُصِيبُ مِنْ خَدَمِهِ سِفَاحًا غَيْرَ نِكَاحٍ قَالَ وَذَكَرَ الْبُخْلَ وَالْكَذِبَ أَوْ قَالَ الْكَذِبَ وَالْبُخْلَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ رَوَاهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِيَاضٍ فَلَمْ نَذْكُرْهُ ؛ لِأَنَّ حَدِيثَ سَعِيدٍ تُرِكَ مِنْهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَالْعَلَاءُ وَقَتَادَةُ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ مِنْ مُطَرِّفٍ فَذَكَرْنَاهُ عَنْ هَمَّامٍ إِذْ كَانَ قَدْ وَصَلَهُ وَقَدْ تَابَعَهُ عَلَى رِوَايَتِهِ عَوْفٌ عَنْ حَكِيمٍ الْأَثْرَمِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِيَاضٍ نا بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ بُنْدَارٌ قَالَ نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ أَبُو بَحْرٍ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ قَالَ نا عَوْفٌ عَنْ حَكِيمٍ الْأَثْرَمِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ وَحَكِيمٌ الْأَثْرَمُ بَصْرِيُّ حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ عَوْفٌ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَلَكِنْ فِي حَدِيثِهِ شَيْءٌ لِأَنَّهُ حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بِحَدِيثٍ مُنْكَرٍ فَلِذَلِكَ بَدَأْنَا بِحَدِيثِ قَتَادَةَ قَبْلَهُ وَلَوْلَا ذَلِكَ ذَكَرْنَا الْحَسَنَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ إِذْ كَانَ أَجَلَّ

قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ يابريدة إِذَا كَانَ حِينَ تُفْتَتَحُ الصَّلاةُ فَقُلْ سُبْحَانَكَ اللهم وبحمدك لا حَوْلَ ولاَ قُوَّةَ إلاَّ بِاللَّهِ ولاَ إِلَهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لا شَرِيكَ لَكَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ ولاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نفسي فَاغْفِرْ لِي إِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ وَتَقْرَأُ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ وَتَرْكَعُ فَتَقُولُ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِذَا رَفَعْتَ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فَقُلْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاءِ ومِلءَ الأَرْضِ ومِلءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ فَإِذَا سَجَدْتَ فَقُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى ثَلاثًا سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِمَنْ خَلَقَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ فَإِذَا رَفَعْتَ مِنَ السَّجْدَةِ فَقُلْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي واهدني وارزقني إني لم أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتَ فِي صَلاتِكَ فَلا تَتْرُكَنَّ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ لا إِلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلاةَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى جَمِيعِ أَنْبِيَاءِ اللَّهِ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لاَ نعلمُهُ يُرْوَى بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إلاَّ عَنْ بُرَيدة بِهَذَا الإسناد

وَقَعَ إِلَيَّ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ اسْتِفْتَاحُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا كَبَّرَ قَالَ «إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ» ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him this supplication and commanded him to learn it and recite it daily, saying in the morning: "Labbaik Allahumma labbaik wa sa'daik wa al-khayr fi yadayk, wa minka wa bika wa ilaik Allahumma ma qultu min qawl aw halaf tu min halaf aw nadartu min nadar, fa ma shi'ta bayna yadayhi ma shi'ta kana wa ma lam tashaa lam yakun, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa bika innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer. Allahumma ma sallaytu min salatin fa 'ala man sallayta, wa ma la'antu min lanatan fa 'ala man la'anta, innaka waliyyun fi al-dunya wa al-akhirah, tawaffani musliman wa alhiqni bi al-saliheen. Allahumma inni as'aluka al-rida ba'da al-qada', wa bard al-'aysh ba'da al-mawt, wa ladhat al-nathar fi wajhik al-karim, wa shawqan ila liqa'ik min ghayr zarra'a mudhira, wa la fitnah mudillah. A'oodhu bika Allahumma an adhlima aw udhlama aw a'tadiya aw yu'tada 'alayya aw uksiba khati'atan mukhti'atan aw dhamban la yughfar. Allahumma Fatir al-samawat wa al-ardh, 'alim al-ghayb wa al-shahadah, dha al-jalal wa al-ikram. Fa inni ahdhu ilayka fi hadhihi al-hayat al-dunya, wa ushkuduka wa kafa bika shahidan, inni ashhadu anna la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-hamd, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer. Wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduka wa rasuluh, wa ashhadu anna wa'adaka haqqun wa liqa'aka haqqun, wa al-sa'ah atiya la rayba fiha, wa innaka tab'athu man fi al-qubur. Wa ashhadu annaka in takilni ila nafsi, takilni ila da'f wa 'awrata wa dhanb wa khalal wa khati'ah, wa inni la athiqu illa bi rahmatika wa ighfir li dhambiy kullahu, innahu la yaghfir al-dhunub illa anta, wa tub 'alayya innaka anta al-tawwab al-rahim."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمُهُ ويَتَعَاهَدَ بِهِ أَهْلَهُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ يَقُولُ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ «لَبَّيْكَ اللهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْكَ وَبِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ اللهُمَّ مَا قُلْتُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ حَلَفْتُ مِنْ حَلَفٍ أَوْ نَذَرْتُ مِنْ نَذْرٍ فَمَشِيئَتُكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مَا شِئْتَ كَانَ وَمَا لَمْ تَشَأْ لَمْ يَكُنْ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٍ اللهُمَّ مَا صَلَّيْتُ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ صَلَّيْتَ وَمَا لَعَنْتَ مِنْ لعْنَةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ لَعَنْتَ إِنَّكَ وَلِيٌّ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكُ الرِّضَى بَعْدَ الْقَضَاءِ وَبَرْدَ الْعَيْشِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَلَذَّةَ النَّظَرِ فِي وَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ وَشَوْقًا إِلَى لِقَائِكَ مِنْ غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ أَعُوذُ بِكَ اللهُمَّ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ أَوْ أَعْتَدِيَ أَوْ يُعْتَدَى عَلِيَّ أَوْ أكْسِبَ خَطِيئَةً مُخْطِئَةً أَوْ ذَنْبًا لَا يُغْفَرُ اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ فَإِنِّي أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَأُشْهِدُكَ وَكَفَى بِكَ شَهِيدًا إِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَكَ الْمُلْكُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٍ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ وَعْدَكَ حَقٌّ وَلِقَاءَكَ حَقٌّ وَالسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَإِنَّكَ تَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ إِنْ تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي تَكِلْنِي إِلَى ضِعْفٍ وَعَوْرَةٍ وَذَنْبٍ وَخَلَلٍ وَخَطِيئَةٍ وَإِنِّي لَا أَثِقُ إِلَّا بِرَحْمَتِكَ وَاغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَتُبْ عَلِيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he stood up to pray, "Allahu Akbar, I have directed my face towards the One who created the heavens and the earth, purely submitting to Him, and I am not of those who associate partners with Allah. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds, who has no partner. And with that I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King, there is no deity but You. Glory be to You, and praise be to You." Then he recited, and when he bowed he said, "O Allah, to You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, I have bowed for You, and my hearing, my sight, my flesh and my blood have bowed for Allah, the Lord of the worlds." Then he raised his head and said, "Allah hears the one who praises Him. Our Lord, to You is the praise, filling the heavens and the earth and whatever You will of anything after that." And when he prostrated he said, "O Allah, to You I have prostrated, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, I have prostrated for You, and my face has prostrated to the One who created it, shaped it, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي قَالَ «اللهُ أَكْبَرُ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ» ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ فَيَقُولُ إِذَا رَكَعَ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي رَكَعَ لَكَ جَمِيعُ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَمُخِّي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ» ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ فَيَقُولُ «سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ» وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ»

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ started to pray, he would say Takbir, then say: "Wajahtu wajhi lilladhi fataras-samawatiwal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin. Inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi rabbil-alamin, la sharika lahu, wa bidhalika umirtu wa ana min al-muslimin. Allahumma! Antal-maliku la ilaha illa ant, ana abduka zalamtu nafsi wa'taraftu bidhanbi faghfirli dhunubi jami'an, la yaghfirudhunuba illa anta, wahdini lihasanil-ahklaqi, la yahdi li ahsaniha illa anta wasrif anni sayy'aha la yasrifu anni sayy'aha illa anta, labaika wa sa'daika, wal-khairu kulluhu fi yadaika wash-sharru laisa ilaika ana bika wa ilaika ana bika wa ilaika tabarkta wa ta'alaita astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik. (Verily, I have turned my face toward Him who created the Heavens and the Earth hanifa (worhsipping none but Allah Alone), and I am not of the idolaters. Verily, my salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the Sovereign and there is none worthy of worship but You. I am Your slave, I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin. Forgive me all my sins for no one forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You. I am at Your service, all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I rely on You and turn to You, blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 897)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكِ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ»

ʿI have turned my face in submission to the One who originated the heavens and the earth, as a monotheist and a Muslim, and I am not one of the mushrikeen. Verily, my Salah (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists). He has no partner, And of this I have been commanded, and I am one of the Muslims [Abun-Nadr said: and I am the first of the Muslims]. O Allah, there is no god but You. You are my Lord and I am Your slave. I have wronged myself and I admit my sin, so forgive me all my sins, for no one can forgive sins except You. Guide me to the best of conduct, for none can guide to that except You and divert from me bad conduct, for no one can divert it from me except You. Blessed and exalted are You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.” When he bowed, he said: ʿO Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My hearing my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinews submit to You.ʿ When he rose from bowing he said: ʿAllah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You be praise, filling the heavens, the earth and that which is between them and filling whatever else You will besides.” When he prostrated he said: “O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One Who created it, shaped it and gave it a good shape, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.ʿ Then he after said the salam at the end of the prayer: ʿO Allah, forgive me my past and future sins, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, what I have transgressed and what You know more than I. You are the One Who brings forward and the One Who puts back, there is no god but You.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 729)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ اللهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ فَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلْقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ فَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالسَّلَامِ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ يُوسُفَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ كَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَقَالَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَقَالَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ وَقَالَ فَصَوَّرَهُ فَأَحْسَنَ صُورَتَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ فَإِذَا سَلَّمَ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ الدُّعَاءَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَهُ وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he started the obligatory prayer, "I have directed my face towards the one who originated the heavens and the earth, inclining towards faith, and I am not of those who associate partners with Allah. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds, with no partner. And by this I am commanded, and I am one of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the King, there is no god but You. Exalted are You, and to You is all praise. You are my Lord, and I am Your servant. I have wronged myself, and I confess my sins, so forgive me all my sins. None forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best of manners, as none can guide to good manners except You. Turn away from me all evil manners, as none can turn away from me all evil manners except You. Here I am at Your service, and my pleasure and my good deeds are in Your hands. The one guided by You is the guided one, and to You is all blessings and exaltation. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You." He said, "And when he performed the bowing during the obligatory prayer, he said, 'O Allah, for You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord. My hearing, my sight, my mind, my bones, and any strength I possess, all are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds.' And when he raised his head from the bowing position in the obligatory prayer, he said, 'O Allah, our Lord, to You is all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, filling whatever You will. And he mentioned the remaining portion of the hadith like the narration of Abd al-Aziz and the narration of Abd al-Aziz is complete."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ابْتَدَأَ الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ قَالَ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ بِيَدَيْكَ وَالْمَهْدِيُّ مَنْ هَدَيْتَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ وَكَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِهِ مِنْ قَدَمِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ قَالَ اللهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ 2345 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْهَاشِمِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ يَقُولُ حِينَ يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَذَكَرَهُ وَقَالَ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَهُ وَاهْدِنِي إِلَى قَوْلِهِ لَبَّيْكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ ثُمَّ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَحَدِيثُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَتَمُّ

The Prophet ﷺ sent some cavalry towards Najd and they brought a man from the tribe of Banu Hanifa who was called Thumama bin Uthal. They fastened him to one of the pillars of the Mosque. The Prophet went to him and said, "What have you got, O Thumama?" He replied," I have got a good thought, O Muhammad! If you should kill me, you would kill a person who has already killed somebody, and if you should set me free, you would do a favor to one who is grateful, and if you want property, then ask me whatever wealth you want." He was left till the next day when the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "What have you got, Thumama? He said, "What I told you, i.e. if you set me free, you would do a favor to one who is grateful." The Prophet ﷺ left him till the day after, when he said, "What have you got, O Thumama?" He said, "I have got what I told you. "On that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Release Thumama." So he (i.e. Thumama) went to a garden of date-palm trees near to the Mosque, took a bath and then entered the Mosque and said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and also testify that Muhammad is His Apostle! By Allah, O Muhammad! There was no face on the surface of the earth most disliked by me than yours, but now your face has become the most beloved face to me. By Allah, there was no religion most disliked by me than yours, but now it is the most beloved religion to me. By Allah, there was no town most disliked by me than your town, but now it is the most beloved town to me. Your cavalry arrested me (at the time) when I was intending to perform the ʿUmra. And now what do you think?" The Prophet ﷺ gave him good tidings (congratulated him) and ordered him to perform the ʿUmra. So when he came to Mecca, someone said to him, "You have become a Sabian?" Thumama replied, "No! By Allah, I have embraced Islam with Muhammad, Apostle of Allah. No, by Allah! Not a single grain of wheat will come to you from Yamamah unless the Prophet gives his permission." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4372)

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَيْلًا قِبَلَ نَجْدٍ فَجَاءَتْ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ أُثَالٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ سَيِّدُ أَهْلِ الْيَمَامَةِ فَرَبَطُوهُ بِسَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَاذَا عِنْدَكَ يَا ثُمَامَةُ؟ قَالَ عِنْدِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ خَيْرٌ إِنْ تَقْتُلْ تَقْتُلْ ذَا دَمٍ وَإِنْ تُنْعِمْ تُنْعِمْ عَلَى شَاكِرٍ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تُرِيدُ الْمَالَ فَسَلْ تُعْطَ مِنْهُ مَا شِئْتَ فَتَرَكَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ قَالَ لَهُ مَا عِنْدَكَ يَا ثُمَامَةُ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَكَ إِنْ تُنْعِمْ تُنْعِمْ عَلَى شَاكِرٍ وَإِنْ تَقْتُلْ تَقْتُلْ ذَا دَمٍ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تُرِيدُ الْمَالَ فَسَلْ تُعْطَ مِنْهُ مَا شِئْتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَطْلِقُوا ثُمَامَةَ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى نَخْلٍ قَرِيبٍ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَاغْتَسَلَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ يَا مُحَمَّدُ وَاللهِ مَا كَانَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ وَجْهٌ أَبْغَضَ إِلِيَّ مِنْ وَجْهِكَ وَقَدْ أَصْبَحَ وَجْهُكَ أَحَبَّ الْوُجُوهِ كُلِّهَا إِلِيَّ وَاللهِ مَا كَانَ مِنْ دِينٍ أَبْغَضَ إِلِيَّ مِنْ دِينِكَ فَأَصْبَحَ دِينُكَ أَحَبَّ الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ إِلِيَّ وَاللهِ مَا كَانَ مِنْ بَلَدٍ أَبْغَضَ إِلِيَّ مِنْ بَلَدِكَ فَأَصْبَحَ بَلَدُكَ أَحَبَّ الْبِلَادِ إِلِيَّ وَإِنَّ خَيْلَكَ أَخَذَتْنِي وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الْعُمْرَةَ فَمَاذَا تَرَى؟ فَبَشَّرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَعْتَمِرَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ قَالَ لَهُ قَائِلٌ صَبَوْتَ يَا ثُمَامَةُ؟ فَقَالَ لَا وَلَكِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَاللهِ لَا يَأْتِيكُمْ حَبَّةُ حِنْطَةٍ حَتَّى يَأْذَنَ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ 12836 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ قُرِئَ عَلَى شُعَيْبِ بْنِ اللَّيْثِ أَخْبَرَكَ أَبُوكَ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمِثْلِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ زَادَ حَتَّى كَانَ بَعْدُ الْغَدِ قَالَ مَا عِنْدَكَ يَا ثُمَامَةُ؟ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ كَلَامِهِ

كَانَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ إلَى الصَّلاَةِ كَبَّرَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَجَّهْتُ وَجهِى لِلَّذِى فَطَرَ السَّمَوات وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكينَ، إِنَّ صَلاَتِى وَنُسُكى وَمَحْيَاى وَمَمَاتِى لله ربِّ الْعَالمِينَ، لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، اللَهُمَّ أنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ربِّى وأنا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِى وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِى فَاغْفِرْ لى ذُنُوبِى جميعًا، إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، وَاهْدِنِى لِأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ، لاَ يَهْدِى لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنّى سيِّئَها، لاَ يَصْرِفُ عنِّى سيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، لَبَّيْكَ

وَسَعْديْكَ، وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِى يَدَيْكَ، وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ، أَنَا بِكَ وَإلَيْكَ، تَبَارَكْتَ، وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِركَ وأتُوبُ إليكَ، وإذَا ركَعَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أسْلَمْتُ، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِى وَبَصَرِى وَمُخِّى وَعظْمِى وَعَصَبِى، وَإذَا رَفَعَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ، وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا، وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئتَ مِنْ شَئٍ مِنْ بَعْدُ، وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، سَجَدَ وَجْهِى لِلَّذِى خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ، وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ، تَبَارَكَ الله أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا يَقُولُ بَيْنَ التَّشَهُّدِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِى مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وما أسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَفْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّى، أَنْتَ الْمُقِدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمؤخِّرُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّذى فَطَرَ السمَّوَاتِ والأَرض حَنيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ المُشرِكِين، إن صَلاَتِى وَنُسكِى وَمَحيْاىَ ومَمَاتِى للهِ رَبِّ العَالمينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وبِذَلك أُمِرت، وَأنَا مِنَ المُسْلِمين، اللَّهم أنْتَ المَلك لاَ إله إلا أَنْتَ سُبحانَكَ وَبِحَمدِك، أنْتَ ربِّىَ وأَنَا عَبْدُك، ظَلَمْت نَفْسِى، واعْتَرفْتُ بِذَنبى، فاغْفِر لِى ذُنُوبِى جَميعًا لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ، واهدِنى لأَحْسَن الأَخْلاَق، لا يَهْدِى لأحْسنها إلا أَنْتَ، واصْرِف عَنِّى سَيّئها، لاَ يَصْرف عَنِّى سَيئَها إلاَّ أنْتَ، لَبَّيكَ وسَعْدَيك، والخَير بِيَدَيْكَ، والمهدِىُّ مَنْ هَدَيت، أَنَا بِكَ وإِلَيْكَ، تَبَاركْتَ وتَعَالَيت، أستَغْفِركَ وأتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ. قَالَ: وكَانَ إذا ركَعَ قال: اللَّهُم لكَ رَكَعْتُ، وَبكَ آمنْت وِإليْكَ أسْلَمْت، أَنْتَ ربِّى، خَشَع سَمعِى وبَصَرى ومخى وعظَامِى وما استقلت به قدَمِى لله رَبِّ العَالمَين".

"كَانَ رسولُ الله ﷺ إذَا قَامَ إلى الصَّلاَةِ المكْتُوبة كبَّرَ ورَفَعَ يَدَيه حَذْو مَنكبَيه ويَقُول حِينَ يفْتَتِح الصَّلاَة بَعْد التَّكْبِيرِ: وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّذِى فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ

وَالأرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ المُشْرِكِينَ، إِنَّ صَلاَتِى ونُسُكِى ومَحْيَاىَ ومَمَاتِى لله رَبِّ الْعَالَمِين، لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وبِذَلكَ أُمِرْتُ وأنَا أوَّلُ المُسلِمِينَ. اللَّهُمَّ أنْتَ الملكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحانَك وبِحَمْدِكَ، أنْتَ ربِّى وأَنا عَبْدُكَ، ظَلَمتُ نَفْسِى، واعْتَرفْت بِذَنْبِى، فَاغْفِر لِى ذُنُوبى جَمِيعًا، لاَ يَغْفرُ الذُّنُوبَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ، لَبَّيْكَ وسَعْدَيْكَ، أنَا بكَ وإلَيْكَ، لا مَنجا منك إلا إليك، أسْتَغْفِرك ثُمَّ أَتوب إليكَ".

"عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ فِى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكْعتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، ولَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وأَنْتَ رَبِّى، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِى وَبَصرِى، وَلَحْمِى، وَدَمِى، وَعَصَبِى وعَظْمِى، ومُخِّى وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِهِ قَدَمَاى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ، فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ قَالَ: سَمِعَ الله لِمنْ حَمِدَهُ، رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَواتِ والأَرْضِ وَمَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَئٍ بَعْدُ، فَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، ولَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وأَنْتَ رَبّى، سَجَدَ وجْهِى لِلَّذِى خَلَقَهُ وصَوَّرَهُ، وشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرهُ، تَبَارَكَ الله رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ".

أَقْبَل رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِى عَامِرٍ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَى عَصَاهُ حَتَّى مَثَلَ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَسُول الله ﷺ ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، إِنَّكَ تَفُوهُ بِأَمْرٍ عَظِيمٍ: تَزْعُمُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ الله أُرْسِلْتَ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَمَا أُرْسِلَ مُوسَى بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، وَعِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ، وَالنَّبِيُّونَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ، فَمَا لَكَ وَالنُّبُوَّة؟ وَلَكِن (لِكُلِّ) قَوْلِ حَقِيقَةٌ، وَلِكُل بَدْءِ شَأنٌ، فَحَدِّثْنِى بِحَقِيقَةِ قَوْلِكَ وَبَدْءِ شَأنِكَ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ حَليمًا لاَ يَجْهَلُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا أَخَا بَنِى عَامِرٍ، إِنَّ للأَمْرِ الَّذِى سَأَلْتَنِى عَنْهُ قِصَصًا وَنَبأً، فَاجْلِسْ أُنْبِئْكَ بحَقيقَةِ قَوْلِى وَبَدْءِ شَأنِى، فَجَلَسَ العَامِرِىُّ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَسُول الله ﷺ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : إِنَّ وَالِدِى لَمَّا بَنَى بِأُمِّى حَمَلَتْ، فَرَأَتْ فَيمَا يَرَىْ النَّائِمُ أَنَّ نُورًا خَرَجَ مِنْ جَوْفِهَا، فَجَعَلَتْ تُتْبِعُهُ بَصَرَهَا حَتَّى مَلأَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ نُورًا، فَقَصَّتْ ذَلِكَ عَلَى حَكِيمٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا، فَقَالَ لَهَا: والله لَئِنْ صَدَقَتْ رُؤْيَاكِ لَيَخْرُجَنَّ مِنْ بَطْنِكَ غُلاَمٌ يَعْلُو ذكْرُهُ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ، وَكَانَ هَذَا الْحَىُّ مِنْ بَنِى سَعْدِ بْنِ هَوَازِنَ يَنْتَابُونَ نِسَاءَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَيَحْضُنُونَ أَوْلاَدَهُمْ وَينْتَفِعُونَ بخَيْرِهِمْ، وَإِنَّ أُمِّى وَلَدَتْنِى فِى العَامِ الَّذِى قَدمُوا فيهِ وَهَلَكَ وَالِدِى، فَكُنْتُ يَتِيمًا فِى حِجْرِ عَمِّى أَبِى طَالِبِ، فَأَقْبَلَ النِّسْوَانُ يَتَدَافَعْنَنِى وَيَقُلْنَ: ضَرْعٌ صَغِير لاَ أَبَا لَهُ فَمَا عَسَيْنَا أَنْ نَنْتَفِعَ بِهِ مِنْ خَيْرٍ، وَكَانْ فِيهنَ امْرَأَةٌ يُقَالُ لَهَا: أُمُّ كبشة ابْنَةُ الْحَارِثِ، فَقَالَتْ: وَالله لاَ أَنْصَرِفُ عَامِى هَذَا خَائِبَةً أَبَدًا، فَأَخَذَتنِى وَأَلْقَتْنِى عَلَى صَدْرِهَا فَدِرَّ لَبَنُهَا فَحَضَنَتْنِى، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَمِّى أَبَا طَالِب أَقْطَعَهَا إِبِلًا وَمُقَطَّعَاتٍ مِنَ الثِّيَاب، وَلَمْ يَبْقَ عَمُّ مِنْ عُمُومَتِى إِلَّا أَقْطَعَهَا وَكسَاهَا، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النِّسْوَانَ، أَقْبَلْنَ إِلَيْهَا، يَقُلْنَ. أَمَا وَالله يَا أُمَّ كبْشَةَ لَوْ عَلِمْنَا بَرَكَةَ هَذَا يَكُونُ هَكَذَا؟ مَا سَبقْتينَا إِلَيْه، ثُمَّ تَرَعْرَعْتُ وَكَبِرْتُ، وَقَدْ بُغَّضَتْ إِلَىَّ أَصْنَامُ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْعَرَبِ، فَلاَ أَقْرَبُهَا وَلاَ آتِيهَا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بَعْدَ زَمَنٍ خَرَجْتُ بَيْنَ أَتْرَابٍ لِى مِنَ الْعَرَبِ نَتَقَاذَفُ بِالأَجِلَةِ يَعْنِى البَعْرَ فِإِذَا بثَلاثَةِ نَفَرٍ مُقْبِلِينَ الأَنْهارُ، ذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ مَنْ تَزَكَّى. قَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، فَإِلَى المُسْمِعَاتِ أَسْمَعُ. قَالَ: جَوْف اللَّيْلِ الدَامِسِ إِذَا هَدَأَتِ العُيُونُ فَإِنَّ الله حَىٌّ قَيُومٌ يَقُولُ: هَلْ مِنْ تَائِبٍ فَأَتوُبُ عَلَيْهِ؟ هَلْ مِنْ مُسْتَغْفِرٍ فَأَغْفِرُ لَهُ ذَنْبَهُ؟ هَلْ مِنْ سَائِلٍ فَأُعطِيهُ سُؤْلَهُ؟ فَوَثَبَ العَامِرِىُّ فَقالَ. أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِله إِلَّا الله وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ الله
