"The first person to speak about Al-Qadar was Ma'bad Al-Juhani." He said: "Humaid bin Abdur-Rahman Al-Himyari and I went out until we reached Al-Madinah, and we said: 'If we could only meet someone among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ so we could ask him about what those people have innovated." [He said:] "So we met him - meaning Abdullah bin 'Umar - while he was leaving the Masjid." [He said:] "My companion and I were on either side of him." [He said:] I thought my companion was going to leave the speaking to me so I said: "O Abu Abdur-Rahman! There is a group of people who recite the Qur'an and seek knowledge, and they claim there is no Al-Qadar, and that the affair is left to chance.' He said: "Whenever you meet those people, then tell them that I am not of them and they are not of me. By the One Whom Abdullah swears by! If one of them were to spend gold the like of Uhud (mountain) in charity, it would not be accepted from him until he believes in Al-Qadar; the good of it and the bad of it.'" He said: "Then he began to narrate, he said: "'Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah when a man came with extremely white garments, and extremely black hair. He had no appearance of traveling visible on him, yet none of us recognized him. He came until he reached the Prophet ﷺ. He put his knees up against his knees, and then said: "O Muhammad! What is Iman?' He said 'To believe in Allah, His Angels, His, Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgement, and Al-Qadar, the good of it and the bad of it.' He said: 'Then what is Islam?' He said: 'Testifying to La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, establishing the Salat, giving the Zakat, performing Hajj to the House, and fasting (the month of) Ramadan.' He said: 'Then what is Ihsan?' He said 'That (is) you worship Allah as if you see Him, and although you do not see Him, He certainly sees you.' He said: 'For all of those he replied to him: 'You have told the truth.'" He said: "So we were amazed at him, he would ask, and then tell him that he is telling the truth. He said: 'Then when is the Hour?' He ﷺ said: 'The one being asked knows no more than the questioner.' He said: 'Then what are its signs?' He said: 'That the slave woman gives birth to her master, and that the naked, poor, and bare-footed shepherds rival each other in the height of the buildings.'" 'Umar said: 'Then the Prophet ﷺ met me three days after that and said: 'O 'Umar! Do you know who the questioner was? It was Jibril. He came to teach you about the matters of your religion.'"

أَوَّلُ مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ فِي الْقَدَرِ مَعْبَدٌ الْجُهَنِيُّ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَحُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَقُلْنَا لَوْ لَقِينَا رَجُلاً مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَمَّا أَحْدَثَ هَؤُلاَءِ الْقَوْمُ قَالَ فَلَقِينَاهُ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ وَهُوَ خَارِجٌ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ فَاكْتَنَفْتُهُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبِي قَالَ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ صَاحِبِي سَيَكِلُ الْكَلاَمَ إِلَىَّ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّ قَوْمًا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَقَفَّرُونَ الْعِلْمَ وَيَزْعُمُونَ أَنْ لاَ قَدَرَ وَأَنَّ الأَمْرَ أُنُفٌ قَالَ فَإِذَا لَقِيتَ أُولَئِكَ فَأَخْبِرْهُمْ أَنِّي مِنْهُمْ بَرِيءٌ وَأَنَّهُمْ مِنِّي بُرَآءُ وَالَّذِي يَحْلِفُ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ أَنْفَقَ مِثْلَ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا مَا قُبِلَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُ فَقَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعَرِ لاَ يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ وَلاَ يَعْرِفُهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ حَتَّى أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَلْزَقَ رُكْبَتَهُ بِرُكْبَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا الإِيمَانُ قَالَ أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلاَئِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ قَالَ فَمَا الإِسْلاَمُ قَالَ شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَإِقَامُ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءُ الزَّكَاةِ وَحَجُّ الْبَيْتِ وَصَوْمُ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ فَمَا الإِحْسَانُ قَالَ أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ قَالَ فِي كُلِّ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ لَهُ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ فَتَعَجَّبْنَا مِنْهُ يَسْأَلُهُ وَيُصَدِّقُهُ قَالَ فَمَتَى السَّاعَةُ قَالَ مَا الْمَسْئُولُ عَنْهَا بِأَعْلَمَ مِنَ السَّائِلِ قَالَ فَمَا أَمَارَتُهَا قَالَ أَنْ تَلِدَ الأَمَةُ رَبَّتَهَا وَأَنْ تَرَى الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الْعَالَةَ أَصْحَابَ الشَّاءِ يَتَطَاوَلُونَ فِي الْبُنْيَانِ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَلَقِيَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بِثَلاَثٍ فَقَالَ يَا عُمَرُ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَنِ السَّائِلُ ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ أَتَاكُمْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ مَعَالِمَ دِينِكُمْ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ أَخْبَرَنَا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ كَهْمَسٍ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

from his father who said: "I did not remain behind from any of the battles the Prophet ﷺ fought in, until the battle of Tabuk, except for Badr. And the Prophet ﷺ did not scold anyone who remained behind from Badr, because he only went out to look for the caravan. The Quraish came out to help their caravan, so they met without an appointment as Allah the Mighty and Sublime, said. By my life, people consider the most honorable of battles of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to be that of Badr, but I would not have liked to attend it instead of my oath of allegiance on the night of Al-'Aqabah when we took a covenant for Islam. Afterwards, I did not stay behind from the Prophet ﷺ until the battle of Tabuk, and it was the last of the battles he fought. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed the people of the departure" - and he mentioned the Hadith in its entirety, and said - "So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and he was sitting in the Masjid, surrounded by the Muslims. He was beaming like the moon beams. When he was happy about a matter he would beam. So I came and said in front of him. He said: 'Receive glad tidings - O Ka'b bin Malik - of the best day you have seen since your mother bore you!' So I said: 'O Prophet of Allah! Is it from Allah or from you?' He said: 'From Allah.' Then he recited these Ayat: Allah has forgiven the Prophet, the Muhajirin, and the Ansar who followed him in the time of distress, after the hearts of a party of them had nearly deviated, but He accepted their repentance. Certainly, He is unto them full of Kindness, Most Merciful (9:117). [until he reached: Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful (9:118).] He said: "And it was about us that (the following) was revealed as well: Have Taqwa of Allah, and be with those who are true (9:119)." He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Part of my repentance is to not say but the truth, and give up all of my wealth as charity for Allah and His Messenger.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Keep some of your wealth for yourself, for indeed that is better for you.' I said: 'So I will keep my share from Al-Khaibar.'" He said: "So after my acceptance of Islam, Allah did not grant me a greater favor than when I and my two companions told the truth to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we were not among the liars to be ruined like the others were ruined. Indeed I hope that Allah will not test anyone over telling the truth as he tested me. I did not resort to a lie ever since then, and I hope that Allah will protect me regarding what remains to come."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكَ إِلاَّ بَدْرًا وَلَمْ يُعَاتِبِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَحَدًا تَخَلَّفَ عَنْ بَدْرٍ إِنَّمَا خَرَجَ يُرِيدُ الْعِيرَ فَخَرَجَتْ قُرَيْشٌ مُغْوِثِينَ لِعِيرِهِمْ فَالْتَقَوْا عَنْ غَيْرِ مَوْعِدٍ كَمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷻ وَلَعَمْرِي إِنَّ أَشْرَفَ مَشَاهِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي النَّاسِ لَبَدْرٌ وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنِّي كُنْتُ شَهِدْتُهَا مَكَانَ بَيْعَتِي لَيْلَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ حَيْثُ تَوَاثَقْنَا عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ ثُمَّ لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ بَعْدُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكَ وَهِيَ آخِرُ غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا وَآذَنَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالرَّحِيلِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَحَوْلَهُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَهُوَ يَسْتَنِيرُ كَاسْتِنَارَةِ الْقَمَرِ وَكَانَ إِذَا سُرَّ بِالأَمْرِ اسْتَنَارَ فَجِئْتُ فَجَلَسْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرْ يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ مَالِكٍ بِخَيْرِ يَوْمٍ أَتَى عَلَيْكَ مُنْذُ وَلَدَتْكَ أُمُّكَ فَقُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَمِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ أَمْ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ قَالَ بَلْ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ تَلاَ هَؤُلاَءِ الآيَاتِ ( لَقََدْ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنْصَارِ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ فِي سَاعَةِ الْعُسْرَةِ ) حَتَّى بَلَغََّ اللَّهَ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ ) قَالَ وَفِينَا أُنْزِلَتْ أَيْضًا ( اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ ) قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ لاَ أُحَدِّثَ إِلاَّ صِدْقًا وَأَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي كُلِّهِ صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ فَقُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي الَّذِي بِخَيْبَرَ قَالَ فَمَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَىَّ نِعْمَةً بَعْدَ الإِسْلاَمِ أَعْظَمَ فِي نَفْسِي مِنْ صِدْقِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ صَدَقْتُهُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبَاىَ لاَ نَكُونُ كَذَبْنَا فَهَلَكْنَا كَمَا هَلَكُوا وَإِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ لاَ يَكُونَ اللَّهُ أَبْلَى أَحَدًا فِي الصِّدْقِ مِثْلَ الَّذِي أَبْلاَنِي مَا تَعَمَّدْتُ لِكَذِبَةٍ بَعْدُ وَإِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ يَحْفَظَنِي اللَّهُ فِيمَا بَقِيَ قَالَ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِخِلاَفِ هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَقَدْ قِيلَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ كَعْبٍ وَقَدْ قِيلَ غَيْرُ هَذَا وَرَوَى يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Layla ibn Abdullah ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sahl from Sahl ibn Abi Hathma that some of the great men of his people informed him that Abdullah ibn Sahl and Muhayyisa went out to Khaybar because extreme poverty had overtaken them. Muhayyisa returned and said that Abdullah ibn Sahl had been killed and thrown in a shallow well or spring. The jews came and he said, "By Allah! You have killed him." They said, "By Allah! We have not killed him!" Then he made for his people and mentioned that to them. Then he, his brother Huwayyisa, who was older than him, and Abd ar-Rahman, set out. Muhayyisa began to speak, as he had been at Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "The greater first, the greater first," meaning in age. So Huwayyisa spoke and then Muhayyisa spoke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Either they pay your companion's blood-money or we will declare war against them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote that to them and they wrote, "By Allah, we did not kill him!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisa, Muhayyisa, and Abd ar-Rahman, "Do you swear and claim the blood of your companion?" They said, "No." He said, "Shall the jews swear to you?" They said, "But they are not muslims." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave blood-money from his own property, and sent them one hundred camels to their house. Sahl added, "A red camel among them kicked me."

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَهْلٍ وَمُحَيِّصَةَ خَرَجَا إِلَى خَيْبَرَ مِنْ جَهْدٍ أَصَابَهُمْ فَأُتِيَ مُحَيِّصَةُ فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَهْلٍ قَدْ قُتِلَ وَطُرِحَ فِي فَقِيرِ بِئْرٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ فَأَتَى يَهُودَ فَقَالَ أَنْتُمْ وَاللَّهِ قَتَلْتُمُوهُ فَقَالُوا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَتَلْنَاهُ فَأَقْبَلَ حَتَّى قَدِمَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فَذَكَرَ لَهُمْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ هُوَ وَأَخُوهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَهُوَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْهُ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَذَهَبَ مُحَيِّصَةُ لِيَتَكَلَّمَ وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَانَ بِخَيْبَرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَبِّرْ كَبِّرْ يُرِيدُ السِّنَّ فَتَكَلَّمَ حُوَيِّصَةُ ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ مُحَيِّصَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِمَّا أَنْ يَدُوا صَاحِبَكُمْ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُؤْذِنُوا بِحَرْبٍ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبُوا إِنَّا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَتَلْنَاهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِحُوَيِّصَةَ وَمُحَيِّصَةَ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَتَحْلِفُونَ وَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ دَمَ صَاحِبِكُمْ فَقَالُوا لاَ قَالَ أَفَتَحْلِفُ لَكُمْ يَهُودُ قَالُوا لَيْسُوا بِمُسْلِمِينَ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِمْ بِمِائَةِ نَاقَةٍ حَتَّى أُدْخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الدَّارَ قَالَ سَهْلٌ لَقَدْ رَكَضَتْنِي مِنْهَا نَاقَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ

that he remembered Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he also remembered a mouthful of water which he had thrown on his face, after taking it from a well that was in their house. Mahmud said that he had heard ʿItban bin Malik, who was present with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle of Badr saying, "I used to lead my people at Bani Salim in the prayer and there was a valley between me and those people. Whenever it rained it used to be difficult for me to cross it to go to their mosque. So I went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'I have weak eyesight and the valley between me and my people flows during the rainy season and it becomes difficult for me to cross it; I wish you would come to my house and pray at a place so that I could take that place as a praying place.' Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I will do so.' So Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr came to my house in the (next) morning after the sun had risen high. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked my permission to let him in and I admitted him. He did not sit before saying, 'Where do you want us to offer the prayer in your house?' I pointed to the place where I wanted him to pray. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for the prayer and started the prayer with Takbir and we aligned in rows behind him; and he offered two rakʿat, and finished them with Taslim, and we also performed Taslim with him. I detained him for a meal called "Khazir" which I had prepared for him.--("Khazir" is a special type of dish prepared from barley flour and meat soup)-- When the neighbors got the news that Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house, they poured it till there were a great number of men in the house. One of them said, 'What is wrong with Malik, for I do not see him?' One of them replied, 'He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle.' On that Allah's Apostle said, 'Don't say this. Haven't you seen that he said, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah for Allah's sake only.' The man replied, 'Allah and His Apostle know better; but by Allah, we never saw him but helping and talking with the hypocrites.' Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'No doubt, whoever says. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and by that he wants the pleasures of Allah, then Allah will save him from Hell." Mahmud added, "I told the above narration to some people, one of whom was Abu Aiyub, the companion of Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle in which he (Abu Aiyub) died and Yazid bin Mu'awiya was their leader in Roman Territory. Abu Aiyub denounced the narration and said, 'I doubt that Messenger of Allah ﷺ ever said what you have said.' I felt that too much, and I vowed to Allah that if I remained alive in that holy battle, I would (go to Medina and) ask ʿItban bin Malik if he was still living in the mosque of his people. So when he returned, I assumed Ihram for Hajj or ʿUmra and then I proceeded on till I reached Medina. I went to Bani Salim and ʿItban bin Malik, who was by then an old blind man, was leading his people in the prayer. When he finished the prayer, I greeted him and introduced myself to him and then asked him about that narration. He told that narration again in the same manner as he had narrated it the first time." أَنَّهُ عَقَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَعَقَلَ مَجَّةً مَجَّهَا مِنْ دَلْوٍ كَانَتْ فِي دَارِهِمْ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ثُمَّ أَحَدَ بَنِي سَالِمٍ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي لِقَوْمِي بَنِي سَالِمٍ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنِّي قَدْ أَنْكَرْتُ بَصَرِي وَإِنَّ السُّيُولَ تَحُولَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ مَسْجِدِ قَوْمِي فَلَوَدِدْتُ أَنَّكَ جِئْتَ فَصَلَّيْتَ فِي بَيْتِي مَكَانًا أَتَّخِذُهُ مَسْجِدًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَفْعَلً إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ تَعَالَى» فَغَدَا عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ مَعَهُ بَعْدَمَا اشْتَدَّ النَّهَارُ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَذِنْتُ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى قَالَ «أَيْنَ تُحِبُّ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ؟» فَأَشَرْتُ لَهُ إِلَى الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي أُحِبُّ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فِيهِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَصَفَفَنَا خَلْفَهُ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ وَسَلَّمْنَا حِينَ يُسَلِّمُ فَحَبَسْنَاهُ عَلَى خَزِيرٍ صُنِعَ لَهُ فَسَمِعَ بِهِ أَهْلُ الدَّارِ فَثَابُوا حَتَّى امْتَلَأَ الْبَيْتُ [407] فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَيْنَ مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُمِ؟ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ مُنَافِقٌ لَا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَلَا تَقُولُونَهُ يَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ يَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا نَحْنُ فَنُرَى وَجْهَهُ وَحَدِيثَهُ إِلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَيْضًا أَلَا تَقُولُونَهُ يَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ يَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ بَلَى أَرَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَنْ يُوَافِيَ عَبْدٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ يَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللهِ إِلَّا حَرَّمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ النَّارَ قَالَ مَحْمُودٌ فَحَدَّثْتُ قَوْمًا فِيهِمْ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَتِهِ الَّتِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهَا مَعَ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ وَقَالَ مَا أَظُنُّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا قُلْتَ قَطُّ فَكَبُرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ فَجَعَلْتُ لِلَّهِ عَلَيَّ إِنْ سَلَّمَنِي حَتَّى أَقْفُلَ مِنْ غَزْوَتِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عَنْهَا عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ إِنْ وَجَدْتُهُ حَيًّا فَأَهْلَلْتُ مِنْ إِيلِيَاءَ بِحَجٍّ وَعُمْرَةٍ حَتَّى قَدِمُتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَتَيْتُ بَنِي سَالِمٍ فَإِذَا عِتْبَانُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ قَدْ ذَهَبَ بَصَرُهُ وَهُوَ إِمَامُ قَوْمِهِ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ جِئْتُهُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَخْبَرْتُهُ مَنْ أَنَا فَحَدَّثَنِي كَمَا حَدَّثَنِي بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ 10882 أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ الْحُصَيْنَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ وَهُوَ أَحَدُ بَنِي سَالِمٍ وَهُوَ مِنْ سَرَاتِهِمْ عَنْ حَدِيثِ مَحْمُودٍ فَصَدَّقَهُ بِذَلِكَ

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Sahl al-Ansari and Muhaishah ibn Mas'ood went to Khaybar and separated for their needs. Abdullah ibn Sahl was killed, and then Muhaishah and Abdurrahman, the brother of the deceased, set out until they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abdurrahman began to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Greater, Greater." Muhaishah and Huwaishah spoke and mentioned the matter of Abdullah ibn Sahl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you swear by fifty and accuse them of killing your companion?" They said, "How can we swear when we did not witness or attend?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then the Jews will acquit you with fifty oaths." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, how can we accept the oaths of disbelieving people?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, the Jew's oaths are acceptable." Bushair ibn Yasir said, "Sahl ibn Abi Hathma outran me in performing a voluntary prayer among those obligatory prayers, and it was in a place called Marbad." We were informed by Muhammad ibn Mansur al-Makki, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Yahya ibn Sa'id, who narrated from Bushair ibn Yasir, who narrated from Sahl ibn Abi Hathma that they found Abdullah ibn Sahl dead. Then his brother, Huwaishah and Muhaishah, who were the uncles of Abdullah ibn Sahl, went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abdurrahman began to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Greater, Greater." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we found Abdullah ibn Sahl dead in a place called Qulayb, meaning near Khaybar." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who do you accuse?" They said, "We accuse the Jews." He said, "Then you swear by fifty oaths that the Jews killed him?" They said, "How can we swear about something we did not witness?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then the Jews will acquit you with fifty oaths that they did not kill him." They said, "But how can we accept their oaths when they are polytheists?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , through divine inspiration, said, "Abdulrahman, send Malik ibn Anas to retrieve him."

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ سَهْلٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ وَمُحَيِّصَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ خَرَجَا إِلَى خَيْبَرَ فَتَفَرَّقَا فِي حَاجَتِهِمَا فَقُتِلَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ فَجَاءَ مُحَيِّصَةُ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ أَخُو الْمَقْتُولِ وَحُوَيِّصَةُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ حَتَّى أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ» فَتَكَلَّمَ مُحَيِّصَةُ وَحُوَيِّصَةُ فَذَكَرُوا شَأْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «تَحْلِفُونَ خَمْسِينَ فَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ قَاتِلَكُمْ؟» قَالَا كَيْفَ نَحْلِفُ وَلَمْ نَشْهَدْ وَلَمْ نَحْضُرْ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَتُبَرِّئُكُمْ يَهُودُ بِخَمْسِينَ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ نَقْبَلُ أَيْمَانَ قَوْمٍ كُفَّارٍ؟ قَالَ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ قَالَ لِي سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ لَقَدْ رَكَضَتْنِي فَرِيضَةٌ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْفَرَائِضِ فِي مِرْبَدٍ لَنَا 6893 أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْمَكِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ قَالَ وُجِدَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا فَجَاءَ أَخُوهُ وَعَمَّاهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَمُحَيِّصَةُ وَهُمَا عَمَّا عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ» قَالَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا فِي قُلَيْبٍ مِنْ يَعْنِي مِنْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَنْ تَتَّهِمُونَ؟» قَالُوا نَتَّهِمُ يَهُودَ قَالَ «فَتُقْسِمُونَ خَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ قَتَلَتْهُ؟» قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نُقْسِمُ عَلَى مَا لَمْ نَرَ؟ قَالَ «فَتُبَرِّئُكُمْ الْيَهُودُ بِخَمْسِينَ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَقْتُلُوهُ» قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نَرْضَى بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ؟ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَرْسَلَهُ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ

[Machine] When the people of Makkah sent their captives as tribute, Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was sent as tribute for Abu Al-As. She was sent with a necklace that Khadijah had given her to wear when she was married to Abu Al-As. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw her, he was greatly moved and said, "If you see fit, then free her captive and return to her what belongs to her." They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah," so they freed her and returned to her what belonged to her. Al-Abbas then said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a Muslim." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah knows best about your Islam, so if it is as you say, then Allah will reward you. So, free yourself, as well as the two sons of your brother Nawfal bin Al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib and Aqeel bin Abi Talib bin Abd al-Muttalib, and your ally Uthbah bin Amr bin Jahdam, who is from the tribe of Bani Harith bin Fihr." Al-Abbas said, "I do not have that with me, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then where is the wealth that you buried, along with Umm Al-Fadl?" He said to her, "If I am saved, then this wealth belongs to the Bani Fadl and Abdullah and Qutham." Al-Abbas said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I know that you are His Messenger, and this is something that no one besides me and Umm Al-Fadl knows. So, please accept on my behalf what you and your companions have received of the twenty ounces of wealth that I had with me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ agreed, and Al-Abbas, along with his two brothers and his ally, were freed. Allah revealed in the Quran, [O Prophet, say to the captives in your hands, 'If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you and forgive you.' And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.] (Al-Anfal 70). Allah compensated me with twenty slaves, all of whom had wealth that they could use to help me, in addition to what I hoped for in terms of Allah's forgiveness. This is what our Sheikh Abu Abdullah informed us in his book Al-Mustadrak (12850). Ibn Ishaq also mentioned this in his book Maghazi. Then, Yunus said, "Ibn Ishaq returned to the earlier chain of narrators and mentioned the sending of Quraysh to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with their captives as tribute, and every group ransomed its captive with whatever pleased it. Then, he mentioned Al-Abbas' story with a chain of narrators after mentioning some other narrations, and their Hadiths all came together in what I mentioned to you on the Day of Badr." Then, he started returning to those narrations without mentioning this particular chain. And Allah knows best.

لَمَّا بَعَثَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ فِي فِدَاءِ أَسْرَاهُمْ بَعَثَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي فِدَاءِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ وَبَعَثَتْ فِيهِ بِقِلَادَةٍ كَانَتْ خَدِيجَةُ أَدْخَلَتْهَا بِهَا عَلَى أَبِي الْعَاصِ حِينَ بَنَى عَلَيْهَا فَلَمَّا رَآهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَقَّ لَهَا رِقَّةً شَدِيدَةً وَقَالَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنْ تُطْلِقُوا لَهَا أَسِيرَهَا وَتَرُدُّوا عَلَيْهَا الَّذِي لَهَا فَافْعَلُوا قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فاَطْلَقُوه وَرَدُّوا عَلَيْهَا الَّذِي لَهَا وَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مُسْلِمًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِسْلَامِكَ فَإِنْ يَكُنْ كَمَا تَقُولُ فَاللهُ يَجْزِيكَ فَافْدِ نَفْسَكَ وَابْنَيْ أَخَوَيْكَ نَوْفَلَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَعَقِيلَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَحَلِيفَكَ عُتْبَةَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَحْدَمٍ أَخُو بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فِهْرٍ فَقَالَ مَا ذَاكَ عِنْدِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ الْمَالُ الَّذِي دَفَنْتَ أَنْتَ وَأُمُّ الْفَضْلِ فَقُلْتَ لَهَا إِنْ أُصِبْتُ فَهَذَا الْمَالُ لِبَنِيَّ الْفَضْلِ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ وَقُثَمَ؟ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُهُ إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ مَا عَلِمَهُ أَحَدٌ غَيْرِي وَغَيْرُ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ فَاحْتَسِبْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا أَصَبْتُمْ مِنْ عِشْرِينَ أُوقِيَّةٍ مِنْ مَالٍ كَانَ مَعِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْعَلُ فَفَدَى الْعَبَّاسُ نَفْسَهُ وَابْنَيْ أَخَوَيْهِ وَحَلِيفَهُ وَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِيهَا {يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِمَنْ فِي أَيْدِيكُمْ مِنَ الْأَسْرَى إِنْ يَعْلَمِ اللهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ خَيْرًا يُؤْتِكُمْ خَيْرًا مِمَّا أُخِذَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ وَاللهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ} [الأنفال 70] وَأَعْطَانِي اللهُ مَكَانَ الْعِشْرِينَ الْأُوقِيَّةِ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ عِشْرِينَ عَبْدًا كُلُّهُمْ فِي يَدِهِ مَالٌ يَضْرِبُ بِهِ مَعَ مَا أَرْجُو مِنْ مَغْفِرَةِ اللهِ ﷻ كَذَا فِيمَا حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ شَيْخُنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ فِي كِتَابِ الْمُسْتَدْرَكِ 12850 وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا فِي مَغَازِي ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ فَذَكَرَ قِصَّةَ زَيْنَبَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ثُمَّ بَعْدَ أَوْرَاقٍ يَقُولُ يُونُسُ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ إِلَى الْإِسْنَادِ الْأَوَّلِ فَذَكَرَ بِعْثَةَ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي فِدَاءِ أَسْرَاهُمْ فَفَدَى كُلُّ قَوْمٍ أَسِيرَهُمْ بِمَا رَضُوا ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قِصَّةَ الْعَبَّاسِ هَذَا وَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ يُونُسُ بِالْإِسْنَادِ الْأَوَّلِ رِوَايَتَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ رُومَانَ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ وَعَاصِمُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَغَيْرُهُمْ مِنْ عُلَمَائِنَا فَبَعْضُهُمْ قَدْ حَدَّثَ بِمَا لَمْ يُحَدِّثْ بِهِ بَعْضٌ وَقَدِ اجْتَمَعَ حَدِيثُهُمْ فِيمَا ذَكَرْتُ لَكَ مَنْ يَوْمِ بَدْرٍ فَذَكَرَ الْقِصَّةَ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يُدْخِلُ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بِغَيْرِ هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

[Machine] He said: "Give a quarter of a tenth. Then he mentioned the hadith until he said, 'And in camels, he mentioned their Sadaqah as mentioned by Az-Zuhri.' He said, 'And in sheep, if they are twenty-five, there are five with a lambing ewe. If it is not a lambing ewe, then it is a male lamb, up to thirty-five. Then he mentioned the hadith until he said, 'And if it increases to one, meaning up to ninety, then there are two young camels in it up to one hundred twenty. If the number of the camels is more than that, then there is one young camel for every fifty. And he mentioned the rest of the hadith, which does not include what is in the narration of Sufyan from Abu Ishaq from the beginning. And in it, and in many narrations from him, about twenty-five, he mentioned five characteristics. They all agreed to leave the saying about it due to it contradicting Asim ibn Damrah and Al-Harith Al-Awar about Ali, may ﷺ , in the famous narrations from the Prophet ﷺ and from Abu Bakr and Umar. This is also the narration of the one who narrated from him, to be in contradiction to the famous narrations, along with the differences and errors found in them. And the Imams of the people of transmission criticized them for that. Therefore, it is necessary to leave it, and the fate is towards what is stronger than it. And with Allah is the tawfeeq. As for the narration mentioned by Abu Dawud in Al-Marasil from Musa ibn Ismail, he said: "Hammad ibn Salamah informed us that Qais ibn Saad said, 'I asked Qais ibn Saad to give me the book of Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm, so he gave me a book that he said he took from Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm, that the Prophet ﷺ wrote it for his grandfather. So I read it, and it mentioned what is taken from the obligations of camels. So he narrated the hadith until it reached one hundred twenty. If it is more than that, then there is counting for every fifty. And what remains, it will be returned to the first obligation of the camels. And what is less than twenty-five, there is sheep in it, with every five sheep, a pregnant ewe that is not mated or a barren ewe or a ewe with young camels. This is what Abu Bakr As-Sulaymani informed us, that Abu Al-Husayn

ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ هَاتُوا رُبْعَ الْعُشْرِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ وَفِي الْإِبِلِ فَذَكَرَ صَدَقَتَهَا كَمَا ذَكَرَ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ وَفِي خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ خَمْسٌ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ فَإِذَا زَادَتْ وَاحِدَةٌ فَفِيهَا بِنْتُ مَخَاضٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنِ ابْنَةُ مَخَاضٍ فَابْنُ لَبُونٍ ذَكَرٌ إِلَى خَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ثُمَّ سَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَإِذَا زَادَتْ وَاحِدَةً يَعْنِي عَلَى التِّسْعِينَ فَفِيهَا حِقَّتَانِ طَرُوقَتَا الْجَمَلِ إِلَى عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةٍ فَإِنْ كَانَتِ الْإِبِلُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَفِي كُلِّ خَمْسِينَ حِقَّةٌ وَذَكَرَ بَاقِي الْحَدِيثِ لَيْسَ فِيهِ مَا فِي رِوَايَةِ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ مِنَ الِاسْتِئْنَافِ وَفِيهِ وَفِي كَثِيرٍ مِنَ الرِّوَايَاتِ عَنْهُ فِي خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ خَمْسُ شِيَاهٍ وَقَدْ أَجْمَعُوا عَلَى تَرْكِ الْقَوْلِ بِهِ؛ لِمُخَالَفَةِ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ وَالْحَارِثِ الْأَعْوَرِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ الرِّوَايَاتِ الْمَشْهُوَرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ فِي ذَلِكَ كَذَلِكَ رِوَايَةُ مَنْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ الِاسْتِئْنَافُ مُخَالِفَةٌ لِتِلْكَ الرِّوَايَاتِ الْمَشْهُوَرَةِ مَعَ مَا فِي نَفْسِهَا مِنَ الِاخْتِلَافِ وَالْغَلَطِ وَطَعَنَ أَئِمَّةُ أَهْلِ النَّقْلِ فِيهَا فَوَجَبَ تَرْكُهَا وَالْمَصِيرُ إِلَى مَا هُوَ أَقْوَى مِنْهَا وَبِاللهِ التَّوْفِيقُ 7268 وَأَمَّا الْأَثَرُ الَّذِي ذَكَرَهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ فِي الْمَرَاسِيلِ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ قُلْتُ لِقَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ خُذْ لِي كِتَابَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ فَأَعْطَانِي كِتَابًا أَخْبَرَ أَنَّهُ أَخَذَهُ مِنَ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَتَبَهُ لِجَدِّهِ فَقَرَأْتُهُ فَكَانَ فِيهِ ذِكْرُ مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْ فَرَائِضِ الْإِبِلِ فَقَصَّ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى أَنْ تَبْلُغَ عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةً فَإِذَا كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَعُدَّ فِي كُلِّ خَمْسِينَ حِقَّةً وَمَا فَضَلَ فَإِنَّهُ يُعَادُ إِلَى أَوْلِ فَرِيضَةِ الْإِبِلِ وَمَا كَانَ أَقَلَّ مِنْ خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ فَفِيهِ الْغَنَمُ فِي كُلِّ خَمْسِ ذَوْدٍ شَاةٌ لَيْسَ فِيهَا ذَكَرٌ وَلَا هَرِمَةٌ وَلَا ذَاتُ عَوَارٍ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ فَهَذَا فِيمَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ السُّلَيْمَانِيُّ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْفَسَوِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ اللُّؤْلُؤِيُّ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَهُوَ مُنْقَطِعٌ بَيْنَ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ أَخَذَهُ عَنْ كِتَابٍ لَا عَنْ سَمَاعٍ وَكَذَلِكَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخَذَهُ عَنْ كِتَابٍ لَا عَنْ سَمَاعٍ وَقَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانَا مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ فَرِوَايَتُهُمَا هَذِهِ بِخِلَافِ رِوَايَةِ الْحُفَّاظِ عَنْ كِتَابِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ وَغَيْرِهِ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ سَاءَ حِفْظُهُ فِي آخِرِ عُمْرِهِ فَالْحُفَّاظُ لَا يَحْتَجُّونَ بِمَا يُخَالِفُ فِيهِ وَيَتَجَنَّبُونَ مَا يَتَفَرَّدُ بِهِ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ خَاصَّةً وَأَمْثَالِهِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ جَمَعَ الْأَمْرَيْنِ مَعَ مَا فِيهِ مِنَ الِانْقِطَاعِ وَبِاللهِ التَّوْفِيقُ 7269 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ الْبَغَوِيُّ ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ هُوَ الْقَطَّانُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ زِيَادٍ الْأَعْلَمِ وَقَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ لَيْسَ بِذَاكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَحْيَى إِنْ كَانَ مَا حَدَّثَ بِهِ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَقًّا فَلَيْسَ قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ بِشَيْءٍ وَلَكِنْ حَدِيثُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الشيوخِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ وَهَذَا الضَّرْبُ يَعْنِي أَنَّهُ ثَبْتٌ فِيهَا 7270 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ ضَاعَ كِتَابُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ فَكَانَ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ عَنْ حِفْظِهِ فَهَذِهِ قِصَّتُهُ 7271 أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَاكِمُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُؤَمَّلِ ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا عَفَّانُ قَالَ قَالَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ اسْتَعَارَ مِنِّي حَجَّاجٌ الْأَحْوَلُ كِتَابَ قَيْسٍ فَذَهَبَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ فَقَالَ ضَاعَ

[Machine] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the hand of Abdullah and taught him the Tashahhud (saying in the prayer): "Say: All greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and on the righteous servants of Allah." Abu Khaythamah said: "And some of our companions added to this hadith from Hasan: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'" Abu Khaythamah said: "I have preserved this from Hasan in the rest of this hadith: if you do this or fulfill this, then you have fulfilled your prayer. If you wish to stand, then stand. And if you wish to sit, then sit. This is a hadith that has been transmitted."

وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَعَلَّمَهُ التَّشَهُّدَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَقَالَ قُلْ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحَمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ وَزَادَنِي فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ بَلَغَ حِفْظِي عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي بَقِيَّةِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ هَذَا أَوْ قَضَيْتَ هَذَا فَقَدْ قَضَيْتَ صَلَاتَكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَقُومَ فَقُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَقْعُدَ فَاقْعُدْ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ قَدْ

[Machine] A man came to Umar ibn al-Khattab while he was at Arafah and said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I have come from Kufa and left a man there who recites the Quran by heart." Umar became angry and his face turned red. He said, "Who is he?" The man replied, "Abdullah ibn Mas'ud." Umar's anger subsided and he returned to his normal state. Then he said, "By Allah, I do not know of anyone more deserving of this than him. Let me tell you a story. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to consult Abu Bakr in the matters concerning the Muslims. One night, the Prophet, ﷺ , stayed up late with Abu Bakr and I was with them. The Prophet, ﷺ , then left and we went with him. We saw a man standing and praying in the mosque. The Prophet, ﷺ , stood and listened to his recitation. When we could not recognize the man, the Prophet, ﷺ , said, "Whoever wants to recite the Quran with the same melody it was revealed with, let him read it in the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd, then the man started supplicating and the Prophet, ﷺ , said to him, 'Ask, and you shall be given.'" Umar then said, "I said to myself, I will go to the man tomorrow and give him the glad tidings." So I went to him to give him the news, but I found that Abu Bakr had already preceded me and informed him. By Allah, I have never been able to surpass Abu Bakr in goodness, except that he always precedes me in it."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عُمَرَ ؓ وَهُوَ بِعَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ جِئْتُ مِنَ الْكُوفَةِ وَتَرَكْتُ بِهَا رَجُلًا يُمْلِي الْمَصَاحِفَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ قَلْبِهِ قَالَ فَغَضِبَ عُمَرُ وَانْتَفَخَ حَتَّى كَادَ يَمْلَأُ مَا بَيْنَ شُعْبَتَيِ الرَّجُلِ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَيْحَكَ مَنْ هُوَ؟ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ فَمَا زَالَ يُطْفَأُ وَيَسِيرُ الْغَضَبُ حَتَّى عَادَ إِلَى حَالِهِ الَّتِي كَانَ عَلَيْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ وَيْحَكَ وَاللهِ مَا أَعْلَمُ بَقِيَ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ هُوَ أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ مِنْهُ سَأُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَزَالُ يَسْمُرُ فِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عِنْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَأَنَّهُ سَمَرَ عِنْدَهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَخَرَجْنَا نَمْشِي مَعَهُ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْتَمِعُ قِرَاءَتَهُ فَلَمَّا أَعْيَانَا أَنْ نَعْرِفَ مَنِ الرَّجُلُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ غَضًّا كَمَا أُنْزِلَ فَلْيَقْرَأْهُ عَلَى قِرَاءَةِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ الرَّجُلُ يَدْعُو فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَهُ سَلَ تُعْطَهْ قَالَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ فَقُلْتُ لَأَغْدُوَنَّ إِلَيْهِ فَلَأُبَشِّرَنَّهُ قَالَ فَغَدَوْتُ إِلَيْهِ لِأُبَشِّرَهُ فَوَجَدْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ قَدْ سَبَقَنِي إِلَيْهِ فَبَشَّرَهُ فَوَاللهِ مَا سَابَقْتُهُ إِلَى خَيْرِ قَطُّ إِلَّا سَبَقَنِي إِلَيْهِ هَكَذَا

[Machine] I was a man who had been given something from the other women that no one else had been given. When Ramadan came, I appeared from my wife fearful that I would be affected by her during the night. I continued in this state and couldn't release until dawn caught up with me. While she was with me one night, something was exposed to me from her and I jumped on her. When I woke up in the morning, I went to my people and told them my news. I said, "Come with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." They said, "No, by Allah, we will not go with you for fear that something from the Qur'an will be revealed in us and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say something about us that would remain our disgrace." So you go and do what seems right for you." So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him my news. He said, "You are that person?" I said, "Yes, I am that person, so decide in my matter according to the judgment of Allah, for I am patient and hoping. So I have freed a slave." I struck my neck with my hand and said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I do not possess anything else besides it." He said, "Fast for two consecutive months." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, have I only been afflicted with what I have been afflicted with in fasting?" He said, "Then feed sixty poor people." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, we spent this night of ours in a terrible condition, and we couldn't find anything for dinner." He said, "Go to the person who gave charity from the Banu Zurayq and let him give you something from his dates, so you may feed sixty poor people with it and seek his assistance for your family." So I went to my people and said, "I found difficulty with you. It was narrated to me from this source from Sulayman bin Yasir. And Abu Abdullah Rahman As-Salami allowed me to narrate it with a chain that is similar to this one. He told us that Abu Hassan bin Subayh informed them that I am Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Shirawayh, I am Ishaq al-Hanzali, I am Abdullah bin Idris, I am Muhammad bin Ishaq. He mentioned his chain of narration like this and said at the end, "Go to the person who gave charity from the Banu Zurayq and let him give you something from his dates so you may feed sixty poor people with it, and eat the rest, meaning the leftover dates." This narration indicates that he gives sixty poor people from the dates, and then he eats the rest of the dates. It also indicates what was narrated to us by Abu Ali Ar-Rudbahri, that Abu Bakr bin Dasa told them, Abu Dawood told them, Ibn As-Sarh told them, Ibn Wahb told them, Ibn Lahiah told them, and Amr bin Al-Harith told them, from Bukayr bin Al-Ashajj, from Sulayman bin Yasir, with this narration, who said, "The Prophet ﷺ was given dates, about fifteen Sa's. So he said, 'Give charity with this.' So he said, 'O Messenger of Allah, is there anyone poorer than me and my family?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You and your family eat from it.' This narration agrees with the narration of Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman and Ibn Thawban in the story of Salamah bin Sakhr, and it is stronger. As for the Hadith of Aus bin As-Samit, the narrations differ regarding it.

كُنْتُ امْرَأً قَدْ أُوتِيتُ مِنْ جِمَاعِ النِّسَاءِ مَا لَمْ يُؤْتَ غَيْرِي فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ رَمَضَانُ ظَاهَرْتُ مِنِ امْرَأَتِي مَخَافَةَ أَنْ أُصِيبَ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَتَتَابَعُ فِي ذَلِكَ وَلَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَنْزِلَ حَتَّى يُدْرِكَنِيَ الصُّبْحُ فَبَيْنَمَا هِيَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ بِحِيَالٍ مِنِّي إِذَا انْكَشَفَ لِي مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَوَثَبْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ غَدَوْتُ عَلَى قَوْمِي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ خَبَرِي فَقُلْتُ انْطَلِقُوا مَعِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا لَا وَاللهِ لَا نَذْهَبُ مَعَكَ نَخَافُ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ فِينَا شَيْءٌ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ وَيَقُولُ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَقَالَةً يَبْقَى عَلَيْنَا عَارُهَا فَاذْهَبْ أَنْتَ فَاصْنَعْ مَا بَدَا لَكَ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ خَبَرِي فَقَالَ أَنْتَ ذَاكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ أَنَا ذَاكَ فَاقْضِ فِيَّ حُكْمَ اللهِ فَإِنِّي صَابِرٌ مُحْتَسِبٌ قَالَ أَعْتِقْ رَقَبَةً فَضَرَبْتُ صَفْحَ عُنُقِ رَقَبَتِي بِيَدِي فَقُلْتُ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ مَا أَصْبَحْتُ أَمْلِكُ غَيْرَهَا قَالَ صُمْ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَهَلْ أَصَابَنِي مَا أَصَابَنِي إِلَّا فِي الصِّيَامِ؟ قَالَ فَأَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَقَدْ بِتْنَا لَيْلَتَنَا هَذِهِ وَحْشًا مَا نَجِدُ عَشَاءً قَالَ انْطَلِقْ إِلَى صَاحِبِ الصَّدَقَةِ صَدَقَةِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ فَلْيَدْفَعْهَا إِلَيْكَ فَأَطْعِمْ مِنْهَا وَسْقًا سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا وَتَسْتَعِينُ بِسَائِرِهَا عَلَى عِيَالِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ قَوْمِي فَقُلْتُ وَجَدْتُ عِنْدَكُمُ الضِّيقَ كَذَا رُوِيَ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ 15282 وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنِيهِ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ إِجَازَةً أَنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ بْنَ صُبَيْحٍ أَخْبَرَهُمْ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شِيرَوَيْهِ أنا إِسْحَاقُ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ فَذَكَرَهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ نَحْوَهُ وَقَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ فَاذْهَبْ إِلَى صَاحِبِ صَدَقَةِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ فَلْيَدْفَعْ إِلَيْكَ وَسْقًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ فَأَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا وَكُلْ بَقِيَّتَهُ أَنْتَ وَأَهْلُكَ وَهَذَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّهُ يُعْطِي مِنَ الْوَسْقِ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا ثُمَّ يَأْكُلُ بَقِيَّتَهُ يَعْنِي بَقِيَّةَ الْوَسْقِ 15283 وَيَدُلُّ عَلَيْهِ أَيْضًا مَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ نا أَبُو دَاوُدَ نا ابْنُ السَّرْحِ نا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ بِهَذَا الْخَبَرِ قَالَ فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِتَمْرٍ فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ وَهُوَ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ صَاعًا فَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْ بِهَذَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلَى أَفْقَرَ مِنِّي وَمِنْ أَهْلِي؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كُلْ أَنْتَ وَأَهْلُكَ فَهَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ مُوَافِقَةٌ لِرِوَايَةِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَابْنِ ثَوْبَانَ فِي قِصَّةِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ صَخْرٍ فَهِيَ أَوْلَى وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ أَوْسِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ فَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَتِ الرِّوَايَةُ فِيهِ

[Machine] How do you say about a man who finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do? He said, ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. So Asim came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked the questions and criticized them. So Uwaimir said, "By Allah, I will not stop until I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that." So Uwaimir came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has revealed the Quran concerning you and your companion. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded both of them to curse each other with what Allah mentioned in His Book." So he said, "So she cursed him." Then he said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I divorce her, I have wronged her." He said, "So he divorced her, and it was a Sunnah for those who came after them from among the cursing parties." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Be cautious, for if she comes with a child called As'ham, it should be attributed to her. It will darken the two eyes, make the legs skinny, and I do not think Uwaimir except that he will be speaking the truth about her. And if she comes with a child called Uhaymir, it will be as if he is a free-roaming bull and I do not think Uwaimir except that he will be lying about her." He said, "She came with him with a description similar to the one the Messenger of Allah ﷺ attributed to him due to Uwaimir's testimony." He said, "After that, he was traced back to his mother."

كَيْفَ تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ قَالَ سَلْ لي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَأَتَى عَاصِمٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَسَائِلَ فَسَأَلَهُ عُوَيْمِرٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَرِهَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا فَقَالَ عُوَيْمِرٌ وَاللهِ لَا أَنْتَهِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ عُوَيْمِرٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ الْقُرْآنَ فِيكَ وَفِي صَاحِبَتِكَ فَأَمَرَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْمُلَاعَنَةِ بِمَا سَمَّى اللهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ قَالَ فَلَاعَنَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ حَبَسْتُهَا فَقَدْ ظَلَمْتُهَا قَالَ فَطَلَّقَهَا وَكَانَتْ بَعْدُ سُنَّةً لِمَنْ كَانَ بَعْدَهُمَا مِنَ الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْصِرُوا فَإِنْ جَاءَتْ بِهِ أَسْحَمَ أَدْعَجَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ عَظِيمَ الْأَلْيَتَيْنِ خَدَلَّجَ السَّاقَيْنِ فَلَا أَحْسَبُ عُوَيْمِرًا إِلَّا وقَدْ صَدَقَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنْ جَاءَتْ بِهِ أُحَيْمِرَ كَأَنَّهُ وَحَرَةٌ فَلَا أَحْسَبُ عُوَيْمِرًا إِلَّا وَقَدْ كَذَبَ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ عَلَى النَّعْتِ الَّذِي نَعَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ تَصْدِيقِ عُوَيْمِرٍ قَالَ فَكَانَ يُنْسَبُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ لِأُمِّهِ

[Machine] "Allah is the guardian. Abu Abdullah al-Saffar narrated to us that Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Birti narrated to us that Musa ibn Masud narrated to us that Ikrimah ibn Ammar narrated to us that Abu Abdullah narrated to us that Abu Abdullah ibn Ya'qub and Abu Amr al-Faqih said that Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us that Al-Abbas ibn Abdil Azim al-Anbari and Ahmad ibn Yusuf said that Nadhr ibn Muhammad narrated to us that Ikrimah ibn Ammar narrated to us that Abu Zumayl narrated to me that Ibn Abbas said: 'The Muslims would not look at Abu Sufyan nor sit him down. So he said to the Prophet, ﷺ , 'O Prophet of Allah, I have three favors to ask from you.' He said, 'Yes?' He said, 'I have the best of the Arabs and the most beautiful of them, Umm Habiba bint Abi Sufyan. I want to marry her to you.' He said, 'Yes?' He said, 'And will you appoint Muawiyah as your scribe?' He said, 'Yes?' He said, 'And will you command me to fight against the disbelievers as I used to fight against the Muslims?' He said, 'Yes?' Abu Zumayl said, 'If he did not ask the Prophet for that, he would not have been granted it, because he would not ask for anything unless the Prophet would say yes.'"

اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ وَأَبُو عَمْرٍو الْفَقِيهُ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَا ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ثنا أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ كَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ لَا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَى أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَلَا يُقَاعِدُونَهُ فَقَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ ثَلَاثٌ أُعْطِيتُهُنَّ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ عِنْدِي أَحْسَنُ الْعَرَبِ وَأَجْمَلُهُنَّ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ أُزَوِّجُكَهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَمُعَاوِيَةُ تَجْعَلُهُ كَاتِبًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَتُؤَمِّرُنِي حَتَّى أُقَاتِلَ الْكُفَّارَ كَمَا كُنْتُ أُقَاتِلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ وَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ طَلَبَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَا أَعْطَاهُ ذَلِكَ؛ لِأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُسْأَلُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا قَالَ نَعَمْ

[Machine] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have given myself to you." So she stood up for a long time. Then a man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you do not need her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you have anything that you can give her as a dowry?" He said, "I only have my waistcloth." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "If you give it to her, you will have to sit without a waistcloth. So seek something else." He said, "I cannot find anything." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Seek something, even if it is an iron ring." So he searched but did not find anything. Then the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have anything from the Quran?" He said, "Yes, I have Surah So-and-So and Surah So-and-So." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have married her to you with what you have from the Quran."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ؟ فَقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا إِزَارِي هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِيَّاهُ جَلَسْتَ لَا إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ مَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا قَالَ الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ appointed a Muslim to kill a Jew, and Ar-Ramadi said that he appointed a Muslim to kill a dhimmi, and he said, 'I am more entitled than anyone to fulfill my pledge.' It is said that Rabi'ah took this from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Yahya, and the narration revolves around it, with the number 15921. Abu Abdur Rahman Muhammad ibn Al Husayn As-Sulami informed us that Abu Al Hasan Muhammad ibn Muhammad Al Karizi narrated to us from Ali ibn Abdul Aziz who said: Abu Ubaid Al Qasim ibn Salam narrated to me, I heard Ibn Abi Yahya narrating from Ibn Al Munkadir, and I heard Abu Yusuf narrating from Rabi'ah Ar-Ra'i, both of them narrated from Ibn Al Bailamani. Then it was conveyed to me from Ibn Abi Yahya that he said, 'I narrated this to Rabi'ah with this hadith, for indeed the hadith revolves around Ibn Abi Yahya from Abdur Rahman ibn Al Bailamani that the Prophet ﷺ appointed a Muslim with a treaty and said, 'I am more entitled than anyone to fulfill my pledge.' Abu Ubaid said, 'This is a hadith that is not supported (by strong narrators), and nothing like it can be relied upon. As for what is shed in the blood of Muslims, Abu Ubaid said, 'Abdur Rahman ibn Mahdi informed me from Abd Al Wahid ibn Ziyad who said, 'I said to Zufar, "You say that you repel evidence with doubts, yet you have come with the greatest of doubts." He said, 'And what is it?' I said, 'A Muslim is killed by a disbeliever.' He said, 'So bear witness, yourself, that I retract from this.' He said, 'And this is also the saying of the people of Hijaz, they do not bind him with it.' As for his saying, 'And not for the one with a treaty within his treaty,' indeed the one with a treaty from the people of Dar Al Harb who enters upon us with safety, his killing is forbidden upon the Muslims until he returns to his place of safety.' The origin of this is from His saying, 'And if anyone of the Mushrikun seeks your protection then grant him protection so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and then escort him to where he is secure.' (Quran 9:6)."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَقَادَ مُسْلِمًا قَتَلَ يَهُودِيًّا وَقَالَ الرَّمَادِيُّ أَقَادَ مُسْلِمًا بِذِمِّيٍّ وَقَالَ أَنَا أَحَقُّ مَنْ وَفَى بِذِمَّتِي وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ رَبِيعَةَ إِنَّمَا أَخَذَهُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى وَالْحَدِيثُ يَدُورُ عَلَيْهِ 15921 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ السُّلَمِيُّ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْكَارِزِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي يَحْيَى يُحَدِّثُهُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ وَسَمِعْتُ أَبَا يُوسُفَ يُحَدِّثُهُ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ الرَّأْيِ كِلَاهُمَا عَنِ ابْنِ الْبَيْلَمَانِيِّ ثُمَّ بَلَغَنِي عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَنَا حَدَّثْتُ رَبِيعَةَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَإِنَّمَا دَارَ الْحَدِيثُ عَلَى ابْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْبَيْلَمَانِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَقَادَ مُسْلِمًا بِمُعَاهِدٍ وَقَالَ أَنَا أَحَقُّ مَنْ وَفَى بِذِمَّتِهِ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ لَيْسَ بِمُسْنَدٍ وَلَا يُجْعَلُ مِثْلُهُ أمِا مَّا يُسْفَكُ بِهِ دِمَاءُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِزُفَرَ إِنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ إِنَّا نَدْرَأُ الْحَدَّ بِالشُّبُهَاتِ وَإِنَّكُمْ جِئْتُمْ إِلَى أَعْظَمِ الشُّبُهَاتِ فَأَقْدَمْتُمْ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ وَمَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ الْمُسْلِمُ يُقْتَلُ بِالْكَافِرِ قَالَ فَاشْهَدْ أَنْتَ عَلَى رُجُوعِي عَنْ هَذَا قَالَ وَكَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ أَهْلِ الْحِجَازِ لَا يُقِيدُونَهُ بِهِ وَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُ وَلَا ذُو عَهْدٍ فِي عَهْدِهِ فَإِنَّ ذَا الْعَهْدِ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ أَهْلِ دَارِ الْحَرْبِ يَدْخُلُ إِلَيْنَا بِأَمَانٍ فَقَتْلُهُ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَى مَأْمَنِهِ وَأَصْلُ هَذَا مِنْ قَوْلِهِ {وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ اسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّى يَسْمَعَ كَلَامَ اللهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهُ} [التوبة 6]

[Machine] I saw Umar ibn Al-Khattab before he was struck by the days in Medina. He stood with Hudhaifah ibn Al-Yaman and Uthman ibn Hunayf and said, "How have you two managed to bear the burden of the earth that it cannot bear?" They said, "We have carried it by a command that it can bear." Hudhaifah said, "If I were to carry it, it would be weakened." Uthman ibn Hunayf said, "I have carried it by a command that it can bear, without any great favor." Umar then said, "See that you have not carried the burden of the earth that it cannot bear." They said, "No." Umar said, "If Allah grants me safety, I will leave the widows of Iraq without needing any man after me." He said, "Only four things came upon him until he was struck." He said, "And between me and him, there is no one except Abdullah ibn Abbas in the morning." He said, "And he used to stand between the rows. If he saw any disorder among them, he would say, 'Stand still until there is no disorder among them.' Then he would proceed and say the takbir." He said, "And perhaps he would recite Surah Yusuf or An-Nahl or something similar in the first raka'a until the people gathered." He said, "And it was only that he would say the takbir." He said, "I heard him say, 'The dog has killed me or the dog has eaten me,' when he was stabbed. Then he flew out of the wound with a double-edged knife that would not pass by anyone to the right or left except that it would stab him, until he stabbed thirteen men and nine of them died. When he saw that, a Muslim man threw a cloak on him. When the assassin thought that he had taken hold of him, he slit his own throat." He said, "And Umar held the hand of Abdullah ibn Awf and brought him forward." He said, "Who will take care of Umar? He has seen what he has seen." He said, "Regarding the surroundings of the mosque, they did not know anything except that they had lost the voice of Umar while they were saying, 'Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah.' Abdul-Rahman ibn Awf led them in a light prayer. When they finished, Umar said, 'O Ibn Abbas, see who killed me.' He went for a while and then came back and said, 'The slave of Al-Mughirah killed him.' He said, 'Really?' After they all spoke with their tongues and prayed towards their qibla and performed the Hajj according to their rites, he was brought to his house. We then left with him." He said, "And it was as if the people had not been affected by any calamity before that day. Some were saying, 'There is no harm,' while others were saying, 'We fear for him.' So they brought some wine and he drank it, and it came out of his wound. Then they brought some milk and he drank it, and it came out of his wound. They recognized that he was dead, and he mentioned this incident in his will and in the command to consult each other."

رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَابَ بِأَيَّامٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَقَفَ عَلَى حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ فَعَلْتُمَا تَخَافَانِ أَنْ تَكُونَا قَدْ حَمَّلْتُمَا الْأَرْضَ مَا لَا تُطِيقُ؟ قَالَا حَمَّلْنَاهَا أَمْرًا هِيَ لَهُ مُطِيقَةٌ وَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ لَوْ حَمَّلْتُ عَلَيْهَا أُضْعِفَتْ وَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حُنَيْفٍ حَمَّلْتُهَا أَمْرًا هِيَ لَهُ مُطِيقَةٌ مَا فِيهَا كَبِيرُ فَضْلٍ قَالَ انْظُرْ أَلَّا تَكُونَا حَمَّلْتُمَا الْأَرْضَ مَا لَا تُطِيقُ قَالَا لَا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ لَئِنْ سَلَّمَنِي اللهُ لَأَدَعَنَّ أَرَامِلَ الْعِرَاقِ لَا يَحْتَجْنَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ بَعْدِي قَالَ فَمَا أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَرْبَعَةٌ حَتَّى أُصِيبَ قَالَ وَإِنِّي لَقَائِمٌ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ إِلَّا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ غَدَاةَ أُصِيبَ قَالَ وَكَانَ إِذَا مَرَّ بَيْنَ الصَّفَّيْنِ قَامَ فَإِنْ رَأَى خَلَلًا قَالَ اسْتَوُوا حَتَّى إِذَا لَمْ يَرَ فِيهِمْ خَلَلًا تَقَدَّمَ فَكَبَّرَ قَالَ وَرُبَّمَا قَرَأَ بِسُورَةِ يُوسُفَ أَوِ النَّحْلِ أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى حَتَّى يَجْتَمِعَ النَّاسُ قَالَ فَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا أَنْ كَبَّرَ قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ قَتَلَنِي الْكَلْبُ أَوْ أَكَلَنِي الْكَلْبُ حِينَ طَعَنَهُ فَطَارَ الْعِلْجُ بِالسِّكِّينِ ذَاتِ طَرَفَيْنِ لَا يَمُرُّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ يَمِينًا وَلَا شِمَالًا إِلَّا طَعَنَهُ حَتَّى طَعَنَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَمَاتَ مِنْهُمْ تِسْعَةٌ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ طَرَحَ عَلَيْهِ بُرْنُسًا فَلَمَّا ظَنَّ الْعِلْجُ أَنَّهُ مَأْخُوذٌ نَحَرَ نَفْسَهُ قَالَ وَتَنَاوَلَ عُمَرُ يَدَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ؓ ا فَقَدَّمَهُ قَالَ فَمَنْ يلِي عُمَرَ ؓ فَقَدْ رَأَى الَّذِي رَأَى وَأَمَّا نَوَاحِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يَدْرُونَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمْ فَقَدُوا صَوْتَ عُمَرَ ؓ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ قَالَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ؓ صَلَاةً خَفِيفَةً فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفُوا قَالَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ انْظُرْ مَنْ قَتَلَنِي فَجَالَ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ غُلَامُ الْمُغِيرَةِ فَقَالَ الصَّنِعُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ قَاتَلَهُ اللهُ لَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَمَرْتُ بِهِ مَعْرُوفًا فَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يجْعَلْ مِيتَتِي بِيَدِ رَجُلٍ يَدَّعِي الْإِسْلَامَ وَقَالَ قَدْ كُنْتَ أَنْتَ وَأَبُوكَ تُحِبَّانِ أَنْ تَكْثُرَ الْعُلُوجُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ وَكَانَ الْعَبَّاسُ ؓ أَكْثَرَهُمْ رَقِيقًا فَقَالَ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَعَلْنَا أَيْ إِنْ شِئْتَ قَتَلْنَا قَالَ كَذَبْتَ بَعْدَمَا تَكَلَّمُوا بِلِسَانِكُمْ وَصَلَّوْا قِبْلَتَكُمْ وَحَجُّوا حَجَّكُمْ فَاحْتُمِلَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ فَانْطَلَقْنَا مَعَهُ قَالَ وَكَأَنَّ النَّاسَ لَمْ تُصِبْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قَبْلَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ لَا بَأْسَ وَقَائِلٌ يَقُولُ نَخَافُ عَلَيْهِ فَأُتِيَ بِنَبِيذٍ فَشَرِبَهُ فَخَرَجَ مِنْ جُرْحِهِ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِلَبَنٍ فَشَرِبَهُ فَخَرَجَ مِنْ جُرْحِهِ فَعَرَفُوا أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي وَصَايَاهُ وَأَمْرِ الشُّورَى

[Machine] That Muhaisha bin Masood and Abdullah bin Sahl went out before the Battle of Khaybar, and they separated in the palm grove. Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, and they accused the Jews. Then his brother, Abdul Rahman bin Sahl, and his cousins Huwayyisa and Muhaisha came to the Prophet ﷺ . Abdul Rahman spoke about the matter of his brother, even though he was the youngest among them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the older among you start speaking." So they both spoke about the matter of their companion, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Shall I swear by fifty of you to give up his blood money?" They said, "We have never witnessed such a thing, how could we swear?" He said, "So can the Jews be exonerated by the oaths of fifty of them?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, they are disbelievers." He said, "By Allah, I wish I had accepted it." Sahl said, "One day, I entered a bathhouse belonging to them, and a camel chased me, and it ran with one of its legs, similar to this or something like it." This is the wording of the narration from Al-Rudhabari, and in the narration of Abu Abdullah, the Prophet ﷺ said, "You have made your companion or your slain one deserve it by the oaths of fifty of you." They said, "We have never witnessed such a thing." He said, "So can the Jews be exonerated by the oaths of fifty of them?" And he mentioned the rest in its meaning.

أَنَّ مُحَيِّصَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ وَعَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ سَهْلٍ انْطَلَقَا قَبْلَ خَيْبَرَ فَتَفَرَّقَا فِي النَّخْلِ فَقُتِلَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ فَاتَّهَمُوا الْيَهُودَ فَجَاءَ أَخُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ وَابْنَا عَمِّهِ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَمُحَيِّصَةُ فَأَتَوَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّمَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فِي أَمْرِ أَخِيهِ وَهُوَ أَصْغَرُهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ أَوْ قَالَ لِيَبْدَأِ الْأَكْبَرُ فَتَكَلَّمَا فِي أَمْرِ صَاحِبِهِمَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُقْسِمُ خَمْسُونَ مِنْكُمْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ فَيُدْفَعُ بِرُمَّتِهِ؟ قَالُوا أَمْرٌ لَمْ نَشْهَدْهُ كَيْفَ نَحْلِفُ؟ قَالَ فَتُبْرِئُكُمْ يَهُودُ بِأَيْمَانِ خَمْسِينَ مِنْهُمْ؟ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَوْمٌ كُفَّارٌ قَالَ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ قَالَ سَهْلٌ دَخَلْتُ مِرْبَدًا لَهُمْ يَوْمًا فَرَكَضَتْنِي نَاقَةٌ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْإِبِلِ رَكْضَةً بِرِجْلِهَا هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوُهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الرُّوذْبَارِيِّ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اسْتَحِقُّوا صَاحِبَكُمْ أَوْ قَالَ قَتِيلَكُمْ بِأَيْمَانِ خَمْسِينَ مِنْكُمْ قَالُوا أَمْرٌ لَمْ نَشْهَدْهُ قَالَ فَتُبْرِئُكُمْ يَهُودُ بِأَيْمَانِ خَمْسِينَ مِنْهُمْ وَذَكَرَ الْبَاقِيَ بِمَعْنَاهُ

[Machine] Abdullah bin Sahal was found dead in a valley in Khaybar. His brother, Abdurrahman bin Sahal, brought the news to the Prophet Muhammad, and mentioned the animosity of the Jews towards them. The Prophet then asked if the Jews would be willing to take an oath fifty times to prove their innocence in Abdullah's murder. They replied saying that they could not trust their oaths, as they were polytheists. The Prophet then asked if fifty people among them would be willing to swear that they had killed Abdullah. They responded saying that it was impossible for them to make such a claim without evidence. The Prophet Muhammad swore that he would make everything right from his side.

وُجِدَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا فِي قَلِيبٍ مِنْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَجَاءَ أَخُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ وَعَمَّاهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَمُحَيِّصَةُ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَتَكَلَّمُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ فَتَكَلَّمَ أَحَدُ عَمَّيْهِ الْكَبِيرُ مِنْهُمَا إِمَّا حُوَيِّصَةُ وَإِمَّا مُحَيِّصَةُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ قَتِيلًا فِي قَلِيبٍ مِنْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَذَكَرَ يَهُودَ وَعَدَاوَتِهُمْ وَشَرَّهُمْ قَالَ أَفَتُبْرِئُكُمْ يَهُودُ بِخَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا يَحْلِفُونَ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَقْتُلُوهُ؟ قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نَرْضَى بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ؟ قَالَ فَيُقْسِمُ مِنْكُمْ خَمْسُونَ أَنَّهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ؟ قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نُقْسِمُ عَلَى مَا لَمْ نَرَهُ؟ قَالَ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Whoever frees a portion of a slave or a share in a partnership, then he will have from that slave or partnership an amount of wealth equal to the value of justice. He will be considered a free person." He said, "I do not know if this is a hadith from the Prophet, ﷺ , or something that Nafi' said. If it is not something that Nafi' said, then he has freed what he has freed." They have reported it in Sahih like this, and it contains an apparent indication that he was unsure about it. Malik ibn Anas, may Allah have mercy on him, confirmed it as a hadith from the Prophet, ﷺ , so the ruling is in accordance with his view. As for the preference of Malik's memorization, it is with the majority of the people of hadith, as Ash-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said. 21355 Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq informed us, Isma'il ibn Ishaq informed us, 'Ali ibn Al-Madinri said, "Abdur-Rahman ibn Mahdi would not give precedence to anyone over Malik." 21356 Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, I heard Abu Al-Hasan Al-'Anazi say, I heard 'Uthman ibn Sa'id Ad-Darimi say, "I asked Yahya ibn Ma'in, 'Is Malik more beloved to you than Nafi' or 'Ubaidullah ibn 'Umar?' He said, 'Malik.' I said, 'And what about Ayub As-Sakhtiani?' He said, 'Malik.'" 21357 Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Muhammad ibn 'Ukht ibn Abu 'Awana informed us, my maternal uncle informed me, Al-Maimuni said, "I heard Yahya ibn Ma'in and Ahmad ibn Hanbal, both of them, say, 'Malik was one of the most trustworthy people in his hadith.'" Ahmad ibn Hanbal said, "O Abu Al-Hasan, it does not matter if you do not ask about a man who narrates from Malik, especially if he is from Madinah." 21358 Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, I heard Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ahmad Al-Hairi say, I heard Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad Al-Qabani say, I heard 'Ubaidullah ibn 'Umar Al-Qawariri say, 'I heard Hammad ibn Zaid say, 'I heard Ayyub As-Sakhtiani say, "Malik had a special chain with Nafi' during his lifetime.'" 21359 Abu Al-Husayn Ibn Al-Fadl Al-Qattan informed us in Baghdad, 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far told us, Ya'qub ibn Sufyan informed me, Muhammad ibn Abi Ruqayn informed me, Ibn Wahb informed me, Malik said, "Yahya ibn Sa'id asked me to compile one hundred hadiths from the hadiths of Ibn Shihab and select them for him, so I wrote those hadiths for him until I filled the book and explained them to him." Malik said, "And a man said, 'I used to learn from him until the day he died. He would come to me and ask me questions.' As for the concurrence of the ones who agreed with Malik on this addition..."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ أَعْتَقَ نَصِيبًا مِنْ عَبْدٍ أَوْ شِرْكًا كَانَ لَهُ فِي عَبْدٍ فَكَانَ لَهُ مِنَ الْمَالِ مَا يَبْلُغُ ثَمَنَهُ بِقِيمَةِ الْعَدْلِ فَهُوَ عَتِيقٌ قَالَ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَهُوَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ؟ أَوْ شَيْءٌ قَالَهُ نَافِعٌ وَإِلَّا فَقَدْ عَتَقَ مِنْهُ مَا عَتَقَ ؟ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ هَكَذَا وَفِيهِ دَلَالَةٌ ظَاهِرَةٌ عَلَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَشُكُّ فِيهِ وَمَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ أَثْبَتَهُ عَنِ الْحَدِيثِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَالْحُكْمُ لَهُ دُونَهُ وَأَمَّا فَضْلُ حِفْظِ مَالِكٍ فَهُوَ عِنْدَ جَمَاعَةِ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ كَمَا قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ 21355 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ لَا يُقَدِّمُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ أَحَدًا 21356 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الْعَنَزِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيَّ يَقُولُ قُلْتُ لِيَحْيَى بْنِ مَعِينٍ مَالِكٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ فِي نَافِعٍ أَوْ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ؟ قَالَ مَالِكٌ قُلْتُ فَأَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ؟ قَالَ مَالِكٌ 21357 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ ابْنُ أُخْتِ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ حَدَّثَنِي خَالِي ثنا الْمَيْمُونِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ مَعِينٍ وَأَحْمَدَ بْنَ حَنْبَلٍ جَمِيعًا يَقُولَانِ كَانَ مَالِكٌ مِنْ أَثْبَتِ النَّاسِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ لَا تُبَالِ أَنْ لَا تَسْأَلَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ مَالِكٌ وَلَا سِيَّمَا مَدَنِيٌّ 21358 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ أَحْمَدَ الْحِيرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقَبَّانِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ حَمَّادَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيَّ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ كَانَتْ لِمَالِكٍ حَلْقَةٌ فِي حَيَاةِ نَافِعٍ 21359 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي رُكَيْنٍ أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ قَالَ قَالَ لِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ اكْتُبْ لِي مِائَةَ حَدِيثٍ مِنْ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ انْتَقِهَا لِي وَأَعْطَانِي رَقًّا قَدِيمًا قَدِ اصْفَرَّ قَالَ فَكَتَبْتُ لَهُ تِلْكَ الْأَحَادِيثَ حَتَّى مَلَأْتُهُ وَبَيَّنْتُهُ لَهُ قَالَ مَالِكٌ وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ كُنْتُ أَتَعَلَّمُ مِنْهُ مَا مَاتَ حَتَّى كَانَ يَجِيئُنِي فَيَسْتَفْتِينِي وَأَمَّا مُوَافَقَةُ مَنْ وَافَقَ مَالِكًا عَلَى هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةِ

The first to speak on Divine decree in al-Basrah was Maʿbad al Juhani. I and Humaid b. ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Himyari proceeded to perform Hajj or ʿUmrah. We said : would that we meet any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we could ask him about what they say with regard to divine decree. So Allah helped us to meet ʿAbd Allah b. ʿUmar who was entering the mosque. So I and my companion surrounded him, and I thought that my companion would entrust me the task of speaking to him. Then I said : Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman, there appeared on our side some people who recite the Qur'an and are engaged in the hair-splitting of knowledge. They conceive that there is no Divine decree and everything happens freely without predestination. He said : When you meet those people, tell them that I am free from them, and they are free from me. By Him by Whom swears ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar, if one of them has gold equivalent to Uhud and he spends it, Allah will not accept it from him until he believes in Divine decree. He then said : ‘Umar b. Khattab transmitted to me a tradition, saying : One day when we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man with very white clothing and very black hair came up to us. No mark of travel was visible on him, and we did not recognize him. Sitting down beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, leaning his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs, he said : tell me, Muhammad, about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : Islam means that you should testify that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle, that you should observe prayer, pay Zakat, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the house (i.e., Kaʿbah), If you have the means to go. He said : You have spoken the truth. We were surprised at his questioning him and then declaring that he spoke the truth. He said : Now tell me about faith. He replied : It means that you should believe in Allah, his angels, his Books, his Apostles and the last day, and that you should believe in the decreeing both of good and evil. He said : You have spoken the truth. He said : now tell me about doing good (ihsan). He replied: It means that you should worship Allah as though you are seeing him; if you are not seeing him, he is seeing you. He said: Now tell me about the hour. He replied : The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the one who is asking. He said : Then tell me about its signs. He replied : That a maidservant should beget her mistress, and that you should see barefooted, naked, poor men and shepherds exalting themselves in buildings. ‘Umar said : He then went away, and I waited for three days, then he said : Do you know who the questioner was, ʿUmar? I replied : Allah and his Apostle know best. He said : He was Gabriel who came to you to teach you your religion. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4695)

فِي الْقَدَرِ فِي الْبَصْرَةِ مَعْبَدٌ الْجُهَنِيُّ فَانْطَلَقْنَا حُجَّاجًا أَنَا وَحُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا قُلْنَا لَوْ لَقِينَا بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَمَّا يَقُولُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمُ فِي الْقَدَرِ قَالَ فَوَافَقْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَاكْتَنَفْتُهُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبِي أَحَدُنَا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَالْآخَرُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ قَالَ يَحْيَى فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ صَاحِبِي يَكِلُ الْكَلَامَ إِلِيَّ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّهُ ظَهَرَ قِبَلَنَا نَاسٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَعْرِفُونَ الْعِلْمَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنْ لَا قَدَرَ إِنَّمَا الْأَمْرُ أُنُفٌ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمْ أُولَئِكَ فَأَخْبِرُوهُمْ أَنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِنْهُمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ مِنِّي بَرَاءٌ وَالَّذِي يَحْلِفُ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِأَحَدِهِمْ مِثْلَ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا فَأَنْفَقَهُ مَا قَبِلَهُ اللهُ ﷻ مِنْهُ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ كُلِّهِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِذْ طَلَعَ رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعْرِ لَا يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ وَلَا نَعْرِفُهُ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَهُ إِلَى رُكْبَتِهِ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ مَا الْإِسْلَامُ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْإِسْلَامُ أَنَ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَتُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ السَّبِيلَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ عُمَرُ عَجِبْنَا لَهُ يَسْأَلُهُ وَيُصَدِّقُهُ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِيمَانِ مَا الْإِيمَانُ؟ فَقَالَ الْإِيمَانُ أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْقَدَرِ كُلِّهِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ فَقَالَ صَدَقْتَ فَقَالَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِحْسَانِ فَقَالَ الْإِحْسَانُ أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ قَالَ فَحَدِّثْنِي عَنِ السَّاعَةِ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ؟ قَالَ مَا الْمَسْئُولُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِهَا مِنَ السَّائِلِ قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ أَمَارَتِهَا قَالَ أَنْ تَلِدَ الْأَمَةُ رَبَّتَهَا وَأَنْ تَرَى الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الْعَالَةَ رِعَاءَ الشَّاءِ يَتَطَاوَلُونَ فِي الْبِنَاءِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ فَلَبِثْتُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا عُمَرُ مَا تَدْرِي مَنِ السَّائِلُ ؟ قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ذَاكَ جِبْرَئِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَتَاكُمْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ دِينَكُمْ 20872 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ أنبأ كَهْمَسٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say, "If there is something to be paid to the scribes, then abstain from it." Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated it in the past from Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah. He said, "I did not memorize from Sufyan that Al-Zuhri heard it from Nu'ayhan, and I did not see anyone from the people of knowledge who confirmed one of these two hadiths. And Allah knows best." He meant the hadith of Nu'ayhan and the hadith of 'Amr ibn Shuayb that the Prophet, ﷺ , said, "Whoever writes a debt for his slave for one hundred uqiyyahs and accepts less than ten uqiyyahs as payment, then he is a slave trader." As for Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, he only narrated the hadith of 'Amr in a disconnected manner, and it has been narrated from other paths from 'Amr, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Prophet, ﷺ . And the hadith of Nu'ayhan, it was reported that Ma'mar heard Al-Zuhri hear it from Nu'ayhan, except that Al-Bukhari and Muslim, the authors of the authentic hadith collections, did not include his hadith in the authentic collection, as if his reliability had not been established in their view, or he did not reach the level of ignorance with the transmission of reliable narrators, and other than Al-Zuhri reported from him, if it is preserved, and he is in

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُكَاتَبِ مَا يُؤَدِّي فَاحْتَجِبْنَ مِنْهُ وَرَوَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ فِي الْقَدِيمِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ وَلَمْ أَحْفَظْ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ أَنَّ الزُّهْرِيَّ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ نَبْهَانَ وَلَمْ أَرَ مَنْ رَضِيتُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ يُثْبِتُ وَاحِدًا مِنْ هَذَيْنِ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ يُرِيدُ حَدِيثَ نَبْهَانَ وَحَدِيثَ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ كَاتَبَ عَبْدَهُ عَلَى مِائَةِ أُوقِيَّةٍ فَأَدَّاهَا إِلَّا عَشْرَ أَوَاقٍ فَهُوَ رَقِيقٌ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ إِنَّمَا رَوَى حَدِيثَ عَمْرٍو مُنْقَطِعًا وَقَدْ رُوِّينَاهُ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ أُخَرَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَحَدِيثُ نَبْهَانَ قَدْ ذَكَرَ فِيهِ مَعْمَرٌ سَمَاعَ الزُّهْرِيِّ مِنْ نَبْهَانَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبُخَارِيَّ وَمُسْلِمًا صَاحِبَيِ الصَّحِيحِ لَمْ يُخَرِّجَا حَدِيثَهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ وَكَأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَثْبُتْ عَدَالَتُهُ عِنْدَهُمَا أَوْ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ حَدِّ الْجَهَالَةِ بِرِوَايَةِ عَدْلٍ عَنْهُ وَقَدْ رَوَى غَيْرُ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْهُ إِنْ كَانَ مَحْفُوظًا وَهُوَ فِيمَا

"عَن عُبَيْدِ الله بنِ عياضِ بن عَمْرٍو القارىِّ قال: جاءَ عبدُ الله بن شداد فدخلَ على عائشةَ ونحنُ عندها جلوس مَرْجِعَهُ من العِراقِ ليالىَ قُتِلَ علىّ، فقالتْ لَهُ: يا عبدَ الله بنَ شداد: هلْ أنتَ صادقِى عمَّا أسْألُكَ عنهُ؟ تحدثنى عن هَؤلاِء القوم الذينَ قتَلَهُمْ علىٌّ؟ قالَ: إنَّ عليا لما كاتَبَ معاويةَ وحكمَ الحكَمَانِ خرج عليهِ ثمانيةُ آلاف من قراءِ الناسِ فنزلُوا أرضًا يقالُ لَهَا حَرُورَاءُ مِنْ جانبِ الكوفة، وإنهمْ عتبُوا عليهِ فقالُوا. انْسَلَخْتَ
من قميصٍ ألَبَسَكَهُ الله واسمٍ سماك الله بِهِ ثم انطلقْتَ فحكَمْتَ فِى دِينِ الله، ولا حُكْمَ إلا لله، فلما بلغَ عليّا ما عَتَبُوا عليهِ وفارقُوهُ أَمَرَ مؤذنًا فأذَّنَ أن لا يدخُل على أميرِ المؤمنينَ إلا رَجُلُّ قد حَمَل القُرآنَ، فلما امتلأَتِ الدارُ من قراءِ النّاسِ دَعَا بمصحفٍ إِمامٍ عظيمٍ فوضعَهُ بينَ يَدَيْه فَجعَل يَصُكُّهُ بيدِه ويقولُ: أَيُّهَا المصحفُ حدِّثِ الناسَ، فقالُوا يا أميرَ المؤمنينَ: ما تسألُ عنهُ فإِنَّما هُوَ مدادٌ فِى وَرَقٍ! ونحنُ نتكلمُ بما رَوَيْنَا مِنهُ. فما تريدُ؟ قالَ: {أصحابُكُمْ هؤلاء الذينَ خرجُوا بينِى وبينَهمْ كتابُ الله، يقولُ الله فِى كتابِه فِى امْرَأةٍ ورجُلٍ: {وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنِهِمَا فَابْعَثُوا حَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَحَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا إِنْ يُرِيدَا إِصْلَاحًا يُوَفِّقِ اللَّهُ بَيْنَهُمَا}، فَأمةُ محمد أعظُم دمًا وحرمةً من امرأة ورجلٍ، ونقَمُوا على أن كاتبتُ معاوية: كتب على بنُ أبِى طالبٍ، وقد جاءَنَا سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عمرٍو ونحنُ مَعَ رسولِ الله ﷺ بِالحُدَيْبِيَةِ حينَ صالَح قومَهُ قريشًا فَكَتَبَ رسولُ الله ﷺ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، قال سهيلٌ: لاَ تَكْتُبْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، فقال: النبىُّ ﷺ : فكيف نَكْتُبُ؟ فقالَ: اكتبْ باسمِكَ اللهُمَّ، فقالَ رسولُ الله ﷺ أكتب محمدٌ رسولُ الله، فقالَ سهيل: لو أعلمُ أنَّكَ رسولُ الله لم أُخَالِفْكَ، فكتَبَ: هَذَا مَا صَالَح محمدُ بنُ عبد الله قريشًا والله تَعَالَى يقولُ في كتابِهِ: {لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ}.

بَعَثَنا رَسُولُ الله ﷺ في سَرِيَّة إِلَى أنْعم (") فَلَقِيَنَا عَامِرُ بْنُ الأضبطِ، فَحَيَّا بتَحِيَّةِ الإِسْلاَمِ، فَفَزَعْنَا عَنْهُ وَحَملَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَلَّمُ (* ) بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ فَقَتَلَهُ، فَلَمَّا قَتَلَهُ سَلَبَهُ بَعيرًا لَهُ وَاهِبَ ( * ) وَمُتَيِّعًا ( * * *) كَانَ لَهُ، فَلما قَدِمْنَا جئْنا بشأنِه إِلَى النَّبِىِّ ﷺ ، فَأخْبَرْنَاه بِأمْرِه، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِه الآيَة: {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُوا} الآية قَالَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ فَأَخْبَرَنى مُحمدُ ابنُ جَعْفَر عَنْ زَيْد بْنِ ضَمِرة قَالَ: حدثنِى أَبِى، وَعَمِّى - وَكَانَا شهِدا حُنَيْنًا مَعَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ قَالاَ: صَلى رَسُولُ الله ﷺ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ الأقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ وَهُوَ سيِّدُ صِدْقٍ يرد عَنْ أمِّ مُحَلَّمٍ، وَقَامَ عُيينة بْنُ حِصْنٍ يَطلُبُ بِدَم عَامِرِ بْنِ الأضْبَطِ القَيْسِى، وَكَانَ أشْجَعَنَا، قَالَ: فَسَمِعْتُ عُيَيْنَةَ بْنَ حِصْنٍ يَقُولُ: لأذِيقنَّ نِسَاءَهُ منَ الحزْنِ مثْلَ مَا ذَاقَ نِسَائى فَقَالَ النبي ﷺ : يَقْبَلُونَ الديةَ، فَأبوا، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ من بَنِى لَيثٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُكَيتل فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ الله والله مَا شَبَّهْتُ هَذَا القَتِيلَ في غرة الإِسْلاَمِ إلَّا نُعَيْمَ بْنَ وردت [كغنم وردت] فَرُمِيتْ أولاها فنفرت أُخْرَاهَا [اسنن] اليَوْم وَغَيْر غَدا، فَقالَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ : بِدَمِهِ لَكُمْ خَمْسُونَ في سَفَرِنَا هَذَا، وَخَمْسُونَ إِذَا رَجَعْنَا، فَقَبِلُوا الدِّيةَ، فَقَالُوا ايتُوا بِصَاحبِكُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ ، فَجئَ به وَعَلَيْه حُلَّةٌ قَدْ تَهيأَ فيهَا لِلقَتْلِ حَتى أجْلَسني - بَيْنَ يَدَيْه - النَّبِىُّ ﷺ ، فَقَالَ ما اسْمُكَ؟ قالَ محلم بنُ جُثَامَةَ، فَقَالَ النَّبىُّ ﷺ وَوَصَفَ أَنَّهُ رَفَعَهُما، اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَغْفِر لمحلِمَ بْن جُثَامَةَ، قَالَ: فَتَحدثْنَا بَيْنَنَا أنَّهُ إِنَّما أَظهَرَ هَذَا وَقَدْ اسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ في السِّرِّ، قَالَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، فَأَخْبَرَنِى عمروُ بنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ الحَسَنِ قَالَ: قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : آمَنْتُ بِالله ثُمَّ قَتَلهُ [أمَنْتَه بالله ثم قتلته]، فَوَ الله مَا مَكَثَ إِلَّا سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ حتَّى مَاتَ محلم، قَالَ: فَسَمِعْتُ الحَسَنَ يَحْلفُ بِالله لَدُفْن ثَلاَت مَراتٍ، كُلَّ تَلفِظهُ الأرْضُ، فَجَعَلُوهُ بِيْنَ صَدى [صُدَّين] جَبَل وَرَضَمُوا عَلَيْهِ منَ الحِجَارَةِ فَأَكَلَتْهُ السِّبَاعُ، فَذَكَرُوا أَمْرَهُ لِرَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَما والله إِنّ الأرْضَ لَتُطبِقُ عَلَى مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مِنْه، وَلَكنْ الله أَرادَ أَنْ يحرمَكُمْ فِيمَا بَيْنَكُمْ (ولكن الله أراد أن يَعِظَكُمْ في حُرْم ما بينكم بما أراكم منه)

" عَنْ أنَسٍ قَالَ: آمَنَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْح مَكَّةَ النَّاسَ إِلاَّ أرْبعَةً: عَبْدَ العُزَّى بْنَ خَطَلٍ، وَمِقْيَسَ بنَ صُبَابَةَ الكِنَانِىَّ، وَعَبْدَ الله بنَ سَعْدِ بنِ أبِى سَرحٍ، وَأُمَّ سَارَّة، فَأمَّا عَبْدُ العُزَّى: فَإنَّهُ قُتِلَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بأسْتَارِ الكَعْبَةِ، قَالَ: وَنَذَرَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأنْصَارِ أنْ يَقْتُلَ عَبْدَ الله ابْنَ سَعْدٍ إذَا رآهُ، وَكَانَ أخَا عثمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، فأتى بِهِ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ لِيَشْفَعَ لَهُ، فلَمَّا بَصُرَ بِهِ الأنْصَارِىُّ اشْتَمَلَ السَّيْفَ، ثُمَّ خَرجَ فِى طَلَبِهِ، فَوَجَدَهُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ، فَهَابَ قَتْلَهُ لأنَّهُ فِى حَلَقَةِ النَّبِى ﷺ ، وَبَسَطَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ يَدَهُ فَبَايَعَهُ، ثُمَّ قَال لِلأنصَارِىِّ: قَد انْتَظَرْتُكَ أنْ تُوفِىَ نَذْرَكَ. قَال: يَارَسُولَ الله هِبْتُكَ! أفَلا أوْ مَضْتَ إِلَىَّ، قَالَ: إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِنَبىٍّ أنْ يُومِضَ، وَأمَّا مِقْيَسٌ: فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لَهُ أخٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَقُتِلَ خَطأ، فَبَعَثَ مَعَهُ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِى فِهْرٍ لِيأخُذَ عَقْلَهُ مِنَ الأنْصَارِ، فَلَمَّا جَمَعَ لَهُ العَقْلَ، وَرَجَعَ قَامَ الفهرِىُّ فَوَثَبَ مقْيَسٌ فَأخَذَ حَجَرًا فَجَلَدَ به رَأسَهُ فَقَتَلَهُ، ثُمَّ أقْبَلَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ:
شَفَا النَّفْسَ مَنْ قَدْ مَاتَ بالقَاع مُسْنَدًا ... يُضَرِّجُ ثَوْبَيْهِ دِمَاءُ الأجادِعِ ()
وَكَانَتْ هُمُومُ النَّفْسِ مِنْ قَبْلِ قَتْلِهِ ... تُلِمُّ فَتنسِينِى وَطِئَ المَضَاجِعِ
فَقُلتُ بِهِ فهْرًا وَغرمْتُ عَقْلَهُ ... سَرَاةَ ( ) بَنِى النَّجَّارِ أرْبَابَ فَارِعِ ( * )
حَلَلتُ بِهِ نَذْرى وأدْرَكْتُ ثُؤْرَتِى ... وَكُنْتُ إِلَى الأوْثَانِ أوَّلَ رَاجِعِ
وَأمَّا أُمُّ سَارة: فَإِنَّهَا كَانَتْ مَوْلاَةً لِقُرَيْشٍ، فَأتَتْ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ فَشَكَتْ إِليْهِ الحاجَةَ فَأعْطَاهَا شَيْئًا، ثُمَّ أتَاهَا رَجُلٌ، فَبَعَثَ مَعَها كِتَابًا إلَى أهْلِ مَكَّةَ تَتَقَرَّبُ بِذَلِكَ إِلَيْهِمْ لِتَحْفَظَ عِيَالَهُ، وَكَانَ لَهُ بِهَا عِيَالٌ، فَأتى جِبْرِيلُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ ، فَأخْبَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ، فَبَعَثَ
رَسُولُ الله ﷺ فِى أَثَرِهَا عُمَرَ بنَ الخَطَّابِ، وعَلَىَّ بْنَ أَبِى طَالِبٍ، فَلَحِقَاهَا فِى الطَّرِيقِ فَفَتَّشَاهَا، فَلمْ يَقْدِرُوا عَلَى شَىْءٍ مَعَهَا، فَأَقْبَلاَ رَاجِعَيْنِ، فَقَالَ أحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحبه: والله مَا كذبنَا وَلاَ كُذِبْنَا، ارْجِعْ بِنَا إِلَيْهَا، فَسَلاَّ سَيْفَهُمَا، ثُمَّ قالا: لَتَدْفَعِنَّ إِلَيْنَا الكِتَابَ أَوْ لَنُذيقَنَّكِ المَوْتَ، فَأنْكَرَتْ، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: أَدْفَعْهُ إِلَيْكُمَا عَلَى أنْ لاَ تَرُدَّانِى إِلَى رَسُول الله ﷺ فقَبِلاَ ذَلكَ مِنْهَا، فَحَلَّتْ عِقَاصَ رَأسِهَا فَأخْرَجَتْ الكِتَابَ مِنْ قَرْنٍ مِنْ قُرُونِهَا فَدَفَعَتْهُ، فَرَجَعَا باَلكِتَابِ إِلى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَدَفَعَاهُ إِلَيْهِ، فَدَعا الرَّجُلَ فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا الكِتَابُ؟ قَالَ: أُخْبِركَ يَارَسُولَ الله! لَيْسَ مِنْ رَجُلٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَكَ إلاَّ وَلَهُ قَوْمٌ يَحْفَظُونَهُ فِى عِيَالِهِ، فَكَتَبْتُ هَذَا الكِتَابَ لِيَكُونَ لِى فِى عِيَالِى، فَأنْزَلَ الله {يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ} () إلى آخِرِ الآياتِ ".

: "عَنْ عَبْد اللهِ بن سَمْعَان قَالَ: أَخْبَرنِي أبُو بكْر بن مُحَمَّد بن عَمْرو بن حَزْم، عَنْ رَهْطٍ مِنَ الأَنْصارِ: أنَّ عَبْد اللهِ بن سَهْل الأَنْصَارِي قُتِلَ بخَيْبَر، وَهُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ كَانَتْ فيه الْقَسَامَة فِي الإِسْلَامِ، خَرَجَ هُوَ وَمحِّيصَة بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَى خَيْبَر فَتَفَرَّقَا لحاجَتِهِمَا فَقتِلَ عَبْد الله ابن سَهْلِ، فَقْدِمْ محيصَة فَانْطَلَق هُوَ وَأَخُوهُ حويصةُ، وَعَبْد الرَّحْمن بن سَهْلٍ أخو الْمقْتُولِ إِلى النَّبيِّ ﷺ فأراد عبد الرحمن أن يتكلم لمكانه من أخيه، فقال رسول الله ﷺ كبر الأَكْبَر، فَتَكَلَّمَ محيصةُ وَحُويصَة فَقَالَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا عَبْد الله بن سهْل مَقْتَولًا فِي قلَيْبٍ مِنْ قلُب خَيْبَر، وَلاَ نَدْرِي مَنْ قَتَلَهُ، وَنَحَنُ نَظُنُّ أَنَّه يهَود فقَالَ النَّبيُّ ﷺ : أَتَحْلِفُونَ خَمْسِينَ عَلَى خمسين رَجُلًا أَنَّ يَهُود قَتَلَهُ فَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ بِذَلكِ؟ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ نَحْلِفُ عَلَى أَمْرٍ كَانَ عَنَّا غَائِبًا فَلَم نَحْضرْهُ، فَلَمَّا تَكَلموا قَالَ: فَتَحْلِفُ لكُم يَهُود فَتُبَرئِكُم خَمْسينَ رَجُلًا منهم عَلَى خَمْسِينَ يَمينًا أَنَّهمُ بَرَاءٌ مِمَّن قَتَل صَاحِبكُم، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: كَيْفَ نَرضَى بِأيمْان يَهُود وهُم كُفَّار؟ فَعَقَلَهُ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عنْدِهِ بِمِائة مِنَ الإبِلِ، قَالَ أبُو بكرْ: فَأَخْبَرني سَهْل بن أَبِي حَثمَة الأَنْصَارِي: لَقَد رَأيْتُ ذَلكِ الْعَقْل الذي وَدى بِهِ النَّبي ﷺ بِه عَبْد اللهِ بن سَهْلِ وَرَكَضَتْنِى مِنْها فَرِيضَة".
