They parted and later on Muhaiyisa came upon ʿAbdullah bin Sah! and found him murdered agitating in his blood. He buried him and returned to Medina. ʿAbdur Rahman bin Sahl, Muhaiyisa and Huwaiuisa, the sons of Masʿud came to the Prophet ﷺ and ʿAbdur Rahman intended to talk, but the Prophet ﷺ said (to him), "Let the eldest of you speak." as ʿAbdur-Rahman was the youngest:. ʿAbdur-Rahman kept silent and the other two spoke. The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you swear as to who has committed the murder, you will have the right to take your right from the murderer." They said, "How should we swear if we did not witness the murder or see the murderer?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then the Jews can clear themselves from the charge by taking Alaska (an oath taken by men that it was not they who committed the murder)." The!y said, "How should we believe in the oaths of infidels?" So, the Prophet ﷺ himself paid the blood money (of ʿAbdullah). (See Hadith No. 36 Vol. 9.)

ʿAbdullah bin Sahl and Muhaiyisa bin Masʿud went to Khaibar and they dispersed in the gardens of the date-palm trees. ʿAbdullah bin Sahl was murdered. Then ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Sahl, Huwaiyisa and Muhaiyisa, the two sons of Masʿud, came to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke about the case of their (murdered) friend. ʿAbdur-Rahman who was the youngest of them all, started talking. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Let the older (among you) speak first." So they spoke about the case of their (murdered) friend. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Will fifty of you take an oath whereby you will have the right to receive the blood money of your murdered man," (or said, "..your companion"). They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The murder was a thing we did not witness." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then the Jews will release you from the oath, if fifty of them (the Jews) should take an oath to contradict your claim." They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! They are disbelievers (and they will take a false oath)." Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself paid the blood money to them.

Sahl bin Abi Hathma and some great men of his tribe said, ʿAbdullah bin 'Sahl and Muhaiyisa went out to Khaibar as they were struck with poverty and difficult living conditions. Then Muhaiyisa was informed that ʿAbdullah had been killed and thrown in a pit or a spring. Muhaiyisa went to the Jews and said, "By Allah, you have killed my companion." The Jews said, "By Allah, we have not killed him." Muhaiyisa then came back to his people and told them the story. He, his elder brother Huwaiyisa and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Sahl came (to the Prophet) and he who had been at Khaibar, proceeded to speak, but the Prophet ﷺ said to Muhaiyisa, "The eldest! The eldest!" meaning, "Let the eldest of you speak." So Huwaiyisa spoke first and then Muhaiyisa. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Jews should either pay the blood money of your (deceased) companion or be ready for war." After that Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote a letter to the Jews in that respect, and they wrote that they had not killed him. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwaiyisa, Muhaiyisa and ʿAbdur-Rahman, "Can you take an oath by which you will be entitled to take the blood money?" They said, "No." He said (to them), "Shall we ask the Jews to take an oath before you?" They replied, "But the Jews are not Muslims." So Allah's Apostle gave them one-hundred she-camels as blood money from himself. Sahl added: When those she-camels were made to enter the house, one of them kicked me with its leg.

The eldest one (eldest in regard to age should speak). So he kept quiet, and his companions (Muhayyisa and Huwayyisa) began to speak, and he ('Abd al Rahman) spoke along with them and they narrated to Messenger of Allah ﷺ the murder of 'Abdullah b. Sahl. Thereupon he said to them: Are you prepared to take fifty oaths so that you may be entitled (to blood-wit) of your companion (or your man who has murdered)? They said: How can we take an oath on a matter which we have not witnessed? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then the Jews will exonerate themselves by fifty oaths. They said: How can we accept the oaths of people who are unbelievers? When Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that, he himself paid his blood-wit.

Show regard for the greatness of the old, or he said: Let the eldest begin speaking. Then they (Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa) spoke about the matter of their companion (murder of their cousin, 'Abdullah b. Sahl). Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let fifty (persons) among you take oath for levelling the charge (of murder) against a person amongst them, and he would be surrendered to you. They said: We have not witnessed this matter ourselves. How can we then take oath? He (the Holy Prophet) said: The Jews will exonerate themselves by the oaths of fifty of them. They said: Messenger of Allah, they are non-believing people. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood wit for him. Sahl said: As one day I entered the fold a she-camel amongst those camels hit me with its leg.

You take fifty oaths and you are entitled to blood-wit of (one) slain among you (or your companion). They said: Messenger of Allah, we neither saw (with our own eyes this murder) nor were we present there. Thereupon (Messenger of Allah is reported to have said): Then the Jews will exonerate themselves by taking fifty oaths. They said: Messenger of Allah, how can we accept the oath of unbelieving people? Bushair said that Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood-wit himself.

By Allah, it is you who have killed him. They said: By Allah, we have not killed him. He then came to his people, and made mention of that to them. Then came he and his brother Huwayyisa, and he was older than he, and 'Abd al-Rahman b. Sahl. Then Muhayyisa went to speak, and it was he who had accompanied ('Abdullah) to Khaibar, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Muhayyisa: Observe greatness of the great (he meant the seniority of age). Then Huwayyisa spoke and then Muhayyisa also spoke. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: They should either pay blood-wit for your companion, or be prepared for war. Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote about it to them (to the Jews). They wrote: Verily, by Allah, we have not killed him. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa and Abd al-Rahman: Are you prepared to take oath in order to entitle yourselves for the blood-wit of your companion? They said: No. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then the Jews will take oath (of their innocence). They said: They are not Muslims. Messenger of Allah ﷺ, however, himself paid the blood-wit to them and sent to them one hundred camels until they entered into their houses, Sahl said: One red she-camel among them kicked me.

Muhayyasah b. Mas'ud and 'Abd Allah b. Sahl came to Khaibar and parted (from each other) among palm trees. 'Abd Allah b. Sahl was killed. The Jews were blamed (for the murder). 'Abd al-Rahman b. Sahl and Huwayyasah and Muhayyasah, the sons of his uncle (Mas'ud) came to the Prophet ﷺ. 'Abd al-Rahman, who was the youngest, spoke about his brother, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: (Respect) the elder, (respect) the elder or he said: Let the eldest begin. They then spoke about their friend and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Fifty of you should take oaths regarding a man from them (the Jews) and he should be entrusted (to him) with his rope (in his neck). They said: It is a matter which we did not see. How can we take oaths ? He said: The Jews exonerate themselves by the oaths of fifty of them. They said: Messenger of Allah! they are a people who are infidels. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid them bloodwit himself. Sahl said: Once I entered the resting place of their camels, and the she-camel struck me with her lef. Hammad said this or (something) similar to it. Abu Dawud said: Another version transmitted by Yahya b. Sa'id has: Would you swear fifty oaths and make you claim regarding your friend or your slain man ? Bishr, the transmitter, did mention blood. 'Abdah transmitted it from Yahya as transmitted by Hammad. Ibn 'Uyainah has also transmitted it from Yahya, and began with his words: The Jew will exonerate themselves by fifty oaths which they will swear. He did not mention the claim. Abu Dawud said: This is a misunderstanding on the part of Ibn 'Uyainah.
I swear by Allah, you have killed him. They said: We swear by Allah, we have not killed him. He then proceeded and came to his tribe and mentioned this to them. Then he, his brother Huwayyasah, who was older to him, and 'Abd al-Rahman b. Sahl came forward (to the Prophet). Muhayyasah began to speak. It was he who was at Khaibar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to him: Let the eldest (speak), let the eldest (speak), meaning age. So Huwayyasah spoke, and after him Muhayyasah spoke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: They should either pay the bloodwit for you friend or they should be prepared for war. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to them about it. They wrote (in reply): We swear by Allah, we have not killed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to Huwayyasah, Muhayyasah and 'Abd al-Rahman: Will you take an oath and thus have the claim to the blood of your friend ? They said: No. He (the Prophet) said: The Jews will then take an oath. They said: They are not Muslims. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself paid the bloodwit. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then sent on one hundred she-camels and they were entered in their house. Sahl said: A red she-camel of them gave me a kick.

Yahya (one of the narrators) said: And I think it was from Rafi' bin Khadij - that 'Abdullah bin Sahl bin Zaid and Muhaiysah bin Mas'ud bin Zaid went out and when they reached Khaibar they separated while there. Then Muhayyisah found 'Abdullah bin Sahl murdered [so he buried him]. Then he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with Huwayyisah bin Mas'ud and Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl. The youngest of the people, Abdur-Rahman, went to speak ahead of his companions. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Let the eldest of you speak." So he was silent and two companions spoke. So he conversed with them and they mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the murder of 'Abdullah bin Sahl. He said to them: "If fifty of you can swear an oath then you will have the right against the murderer." They said: "How can we take an oath when we did not witness it?" He said: "Then fifty of Jews can swear to clear the charge with you?" They said: "How could we accept the oaths of a disbelieving people?" So when he saw that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood-money." (Another Chain) from Sahl bin Abi Hathman and Rafi' bin Khadij, and the meaning is similar to this Hadith.

"The first person to speak about Al-Qadar was Ma'bad Al-Juhani." He said: "Humaid bin Abdur-Rahman Al-Himyari and I went out until we reached Al-Madinah, and we said: 'If we could only meet someone among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ so we could ask him about what those people have innovated." [He said:] "So we met him - meaning Abdullah bin 'Umar - while he was leaving the Masjid." [He said:] "My companion and I were on either side of him." [He said:] I thought my companion was going to leave the speaking to me so I said: "O Abu Abdur-Rahman! There is a group of people who recite the Qur'an and seek knowledge, and they claim there is no Al-Qadar, and that the affair is left to chance.' He said: "Whenever you meet those people, then tell them that I am not of them and they are not of me. By the One Whom Abdullah swears by! If one of them were to spend gold the like of Uhud (mountain) in charity, it would not be accepted from him until he believes in Al-Qadar; the good of it and the bad of it.'" He said: "Then he began to narrate, he said: "'Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah when a man came with extremely white garments, and extremely black hair. He had no appearance of traveling visible on him, yet none of us recognized him. He came until he reached the Prophet ﷺ. He put his knees up against his knees, and then said: "O Muhammad! What is Iman?' He said 'To believe in Allah, His Angels, His, Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgement, and Al-Qadar, the good of it and the bad of it.' He said: 'Then what is Islam?' He said: 'Testifying to La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, establishing the Salat, giving the Zakat, performing Hajj to the House, and fasting (the month of) Ramadan.' He said: 'Then what is Ihsan?' He said 'That (is) you worship Allah as if you see Him, and although you do not see Him, He certainly sees you.' He said: 'For all of those he replied to him: 'You have told the truth.'" He said: "So we were amazed at him, he would ask, and then tell him that he is telling the truth. He said: 'Then when is the Hour?' He ﷺ said: 'The one being asked knows no more than the questioner.' He said: 'Then what are its signs?' He said: 'That the slave woman gives birth to her master, and that the naked, poor, and bare-footed shepherds rival each other in the height of the buildings.'" 'Umar said: 'Then the Prophet ﷺ met me three days after that and said: 'O 'Umar! Do you know who the questioner was? It was Jibril. He came to teach you about the matters of your religion.'"

from his father who said: "I did not remain behind from any of the battles the Prophet ﷺ fought in, until the battle of Tabuk, except for Badr. And the Prophet ﷺ did not scold anyone who remained behind from Badr, because he only went out to look for the caravan. The Quraish came out to help their caravan, so they met without an appointment as Allah the Mighty and Sublime, said. By my life, people consider the most honorable of battles of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to be that of Badr, but I would not have liked to attend it instead of my oath of allegiance on the night of Al-'Aqabah when we took a covenant for Islam. Afterwards, I did not stay behind from the Prophet ﷺ until the battle of Tabuk, and it was the last of the battles he fought. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed the people of the departure" - and he mentioned the Hadith in its entirety, and said - "So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and he was sitting in the Masjid, surrounded by the Muslims. He was beaming like the moon beams. When he was happy about a matter he would beam. So I came and said in front of him. He said: 'Receive glad tidings - O Ka'b bin Malik - of the best day you have seen since your mother bore you!' So I said: 'O Prophet of Allah! Is it from Allah or from you?' He said: 'From Allah.' Then he recited these Ayat: Allah has forgiven the Prophet, the Muhajirin, and the Ansar who followed him in the time of distress, after the hearts of a party of them had nearly deviated, but He accepted their repentance. Certainly, He is unto them full of Kindness, Most Merciful (9:117). [until he reached: Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful (9:118).] He said: "And it was about us that (the following) was revealed as well: Have Taqwa of Allah, and be with those who are true (9:119)." He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Part of my repentance is to not say but the truth, and give up all of my wealth as charity for Allah and His Messenger.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Keep some of your wealth for yourself, for indeed that is better for you.' I said: 'So I will keep my share from Al-Khaibar.'" He said: "So after my acceptance of Islam, Allah did not grant me a greater favor than when I and my two companions told the truth to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we were not among the liars to be ruined like the others were ruined. Indeed I hope that Allah will not test anyone over telling the truth as he tested me. I did not resort to a lie ever since then, and I hope that Allah will protect me regarding what remains to come."

'Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhayysah set out for Khaibar because of some problem that had arisen. Someone came to Muhayysah and he told him that 'Abdullah bin Sahl had been Killed and thrown into a pit, or a well. He came to the Jews and said: "By Allah, you killed him. " They said: "By Allah, we did not kill him."Then he went back to the Messenger of Allah and told him about that. Then he and Huwayysah - his brother who was older than him - and 'Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl, came (to the Prophet). Muhayysah, who was the one who had been at Khaibar, began to speak, but the messenger of Allah said: "Let the elder speak first," So Huwayysah elder speaks first." So Huwayysah spoke, then Muhayysah spoke. The Messenger of Allah said: "Either (the Jews) will pay the Diyah for your comanion, or war will be declared on them." The Messenger of Allah sent a letter to that effect (to the Jews) and they wrote back saying: "By Allah, we did not kill him." The Messenger of Allah said to Huwayysah. [AI] "Then, they went against Abdullah and he was killed. His neck was struck until it was severed, then he was thrown into a pit among the pits of Khaybar. His companions called out to him, and they pulled him out and concealed him. Then, they arrived in Medina to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . His brother, Abdullah ibn Sahl, came forward. He had accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his two cousins, Huwayshah ibn Mas'ud and Muhayyisah. Abdullah spoke, and he was the youngest among them in age, but he had spilled blood and was respected among his people. When he finished speaking, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Al-Kubra! (The greatest!)' He then stepped back, and Huwayshah and Muhayyisah spoke. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You call your killer, then you swear fifty oaths upon him, then we will hand him over to you.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah! We would not swear upon something we do not know. We do not know who killed him except that it was a Jew, our enemy, and among their ranks he was killed.' He said, 'So, they would swear to you by Allah that they are innocent of the blood of your companion, and then they would dissociate themselves from it.' They said, 'We would not accept oaths from Jews. There is no greater crime than them swearing falsely.' He said, 'By Allah! The Messenger of Allah desires from it one hundred camels as compensation.'"

[AI] Narrated by Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah: They found Abdullah ibn Sahl from the Ansar killed in a valley of Khaybar called Qalib. His brother and his paternal uncle went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . His brother was Abdullah ibn Sahl and his paternal uncle was Huwayyisah and Muhaysah. Abdullah ibn Rahmah went to speak in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "News of his death reached us, O Messenger of Allah, in a valley of Khaybar called Qalib." Then he mentioned the Jews, their evil and enmity. He said, "Please divide fifty of us from among yourselves, for it was said that the Jews killed him." They said, "How can we divide among what we did not observe?" He said, "Then let the Jews remove the burden of your blood by taking an oath that they did not kill him." They said, "How can we accept their oaths when they are polytheists?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wished for it from Allah, and the morning of the next day I saw traces of its impact on him. It is said to Sufyan in the narrative, "And do you deserve the blood of your companion?" He said, "He is there."

[AI] Then they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so his brother Abdullah ibn Sahl and his cousins Huyayy ibn Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa advanced before Abdullah ibn Rahman. Abdullah ibn Rahman was respected by the people and had a high status. Therefore, he approached first and spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before his cousins Huyayy ibn Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The eldest should speak first." So Abdullah ibn Rahman spoke first, and then Huyayy ibn Huwayyisa spoke, followed by Muhayyisa. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, our companion was killed and there is no enemy in Khaybar except the Jews." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You accuse your killer and then swear upon him fifty oaths, and then you hand him over." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we cannot swear oaths about something we did not witness." He said, "They will swear oaths for you fifty times and absolve themselves from the blood of your companion." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we do not accept oaths of the Jews, as they are greater in disbelief than to swear oaths for a sin." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became pleased and said to them, "I will give you a hundred camels from my own possessions." Sahla said, "By Allah, I will never forget the sacrifice of a red she-camel from that." And I was holding onto it.

[AI] Muhaissah and Huwaissah, the sons of Mas'ud, came, and Abdulrahman bin Sahl, the brother of the deceased, came. They were the youngest among them. So they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and spoke. The one who was most entitled to the blood spoke first. Both of them were eloquent in their speech. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Magnify the magnification." So they spoke about the matter of their companion. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Swear by fifty of you, your companion or your slain." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, it is a matter we have not witnessed, so how can we swear?" He said, "You are acquitted by the oath of fifty Jews among them." They said, "They are disbelievers." He said, "May Allah curse them." I (the narrator) went inside their tents, and a camel from those camels which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given to them with his own hand ran after me.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Layla ibn Abdullah ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sahl from Sahl ibn Abi Hathma that some of the great men of his people informed him that Abdullah ibn Sahl and Muhayyisa went out to Khaybar because extreme poverty had overtaken them. Muhayyisa returned and said that Abdullah ibn Sahl had been killed and thrown in a shallow well or spring. The jews came and he said, "By Allah! You have killed him." They said, "By Allah! We have not killed him!" Then he made for his people and mentioned that to them. Then he, his brother Huwayyisa, who was older than him, and Abd ar-Rahman, set out. Muhayyisa began to speak, as he had been at Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "The greater first, the greater first," meaning in age. So Huwayyisa spoke and then Muhayyisa spoke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Either they pay your companion's blood-money or we will declare war against them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote that to them and they wrote, "By Allah, we did not kill him!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisa, Muhayyisa, and Abd ar-Rahman, "Do you swear and claim the blood of your companion?" They said, "No." He said, "Shall the jews swear to you?" They said, "But they are not muslims." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave blood-money from his own property, and sent them one hundred camels to their house. Sahl added, "A red camel among them kicked me."

بُشَيْرُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ
and from Rafi bin Khadij, the two of them said - :"Abdullah bin Sahl bin Zaid and Muhayysah bin Mas'ud went out until when they reached Khaibar, they went their separate ways. Then Muhayysah found 'Abdullah bin Sahl slain, so he buried him. Then he came to the Mesenger of Allah, along with Huwayysah bin Mas'ud and 'Abdur-Rahman bin Sahl, who was the youngest of them, 'Abdur-Rahman started to speak before his two companions, but the Messenger of Allah said to him: "Let the clear speak first." So he fell silent and his two companions spoke, then he spoke with them. They told the Messenger of Allah about the killing of 'Abdullah bin Sahl, and he said to them: "Will you swear fifty oaths, then you will receive compensation, or be entitled to retaliate?" They said: "How can we swear an oath when we did not witness what happened?" he said: "Then can the Jews swear fifty oaths declaring their innocence?" They said: "How can we accept the oath of a disbelieving people?" When the Messenger of Allah saw that, he paid the blood money (himself). (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4712)

[AI] He heard Sahl ibn Abi Hathma saying that Abdullah ibn Sahl was found dead in a poor man, or impoverished district, or Khaybar region. So his brother, Abdullah ibn Sahl, went to the Prophet ﷺ , and his aunt, Huwaisah, and her two sons, Mahysah and Muhyysah, went with him. Then Abdullah ibn Sahl began to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Al-kubra, al-kubra" (the greatest sin, the greatest sin). Then Muhyysah began to speak and mentioned the killing of Abdullah ibn Sahl. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, we found Abdullah ibn Sahl dead, and indeed the Jews are people of disbelief and treachery, and they are the ones who killed him." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then you all swear fifty oaths, and you will either deserve your companion or the blood of your companion." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, how can we swear oaths about something we did not witness and were not present for?" He said, "Then the Jews will swear fifty oaths to you." They said, "How can we accept oaths from a people who are polytheists?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ settled the matter, and Sahl said, "Indeed, it indeed happened to me one morning."

[AI] That Abdullah bin Sahl and Muḥayṣah bin Masʿūd came to Khaybar with a need, and they separated among its palm trees. Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, so his brother, the Prophet's ﷺ cousin, Abdullah bin Sahl, and the sons of his uncle, Muḥayṣah and Ḥuwayṣah bin Masʿūd, came to the Prophet ﷺ. Abdullah bin Sahl started to speak and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Start with the most important matters," meaning to make the major issue the first one. And Abdullah bin Sahl was older than his companions, so they spoke about the killing of their companion. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You deserve your killer or your companion by fifty oaths among them." They said, "They are a disbelieving people." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, I wish I had your killing." Sahl said, "I encountered a she-camel of theirs and it ran away with me in their marsh."

[AI] Al-Qa'nabi narrated on the authority of Malik that Bakr ibn Sahl al-Dimyati narrated to us, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Yusuf, who said: "I am Malik, on the authority of Abu Layla ibn Abdullah ibn Sahl, on the authority of Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah that he was informed by some of the elders of his people that Abdullah ibn Sahl and Muhaysah went out to Khaybar due to some difficulty that had befallen them. Muhaysah then came and informed them that Abdullah ibn Sahl had been killed and thrown into a well or a blind person's home. He then went to the Jews and said, 'By Allah, you killed him.' They replied, 'By Allah, we did not kill him.' He then continued until he reached his people and mentioned this to them. So he and his brother Huwayyisah, who was older than him, along with Abdur Rahman ibn Sahl, went to Khaybar. Huwayyisah went forth to speak, even though he was the one who had been present in Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisah, 'Recite the takbir, recite the takbir,' intending for him to mention the year (of the event). Huwayyisah then spoke, and after him, Muhaysah spoke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Either they should hand over the killer or they should ready themselves for war.' So the Messenger of Allah sent them a letter regarding this matter and they wrote back, 'By Allah, we did not kill him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Huwayyisah, Muhaysah, and Abdur Rahman ibn Sahl, 'You take an oath and you deserve the blood of your companion?' They replied, 'No.' He said, 'Then will the Jews take an oath for you?' They said, 'They are not Muslims.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was very displeased with this and sent them one hundred camels as compensation, until they were brought into their house. Sahl said, 'A red camel from among them ran ahead of me.'"

[AI] Amr ibn Bukayr ibn Bakkar al-Qa'nabi narrated that Mujashi' ibn Amr narrated to us, who said that Ibn Lahiah narrated on the authority of Abu Qabail, who said that Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As informed him that Muadh ibn Jabal informed him, saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us with a changed complexion, and he said, 'I am Muhammad, granted the keys of speech and its endings. So obey me as long as I am among you. And when I depart from you, then upon you is the Book of Allah. Make the lawful of it lawful and the unlawful of it unlawful. Death has come to you with the truth. So do not let the shaytan take possession of you. Indeed the meeting place and the resting place of the souls is a book from Allah. There will come to you tribulations, like patches of morning darkness. Whenever one patch goes away, another patch comes. Prophethood will last among you for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah will remove it when He desires. Then there will come the Khilafah upon the Prophetic method.' Allah will have mercy on the one who takes it by its right and leaves it by virtue of His obedience. And he who turns away from it, then Allah will cast him aside just as he turned away. Then he said, 'O Muadh, count!' So I counted until I reached five. He said, 'Yazid, may Allah not bless Yazid.' Then his tears flowed and he said, 'A calamity will befall my grandson Husayn, and his family will be killed in front of him. By the One in whose hand is my soul, he will not be killed except by a people who oppose the command of Allah. They will differ and disagree among themselves.' Then he interlocked his fingers and said, 'Woe unto the offspring of Muhammad from a tyrant ruler, an oppressor, who will destroy the laws of Islam. A man from his family will call upon Allah and his supplication will not be answered. The people will differ among themselves, and it will be as such.' Then he said, 'After one hundred and twenty years, there will be swift death and sudden killing. In it will be their destruction, and a man from the offspring of Abbas will come after them.' And their words are the same."

Muhayysah and 'Abdur-Rahman: "Will you swear an oath establishing your claim to the blood money of your companion?" They said: "No." He said: "Should the jews swear an oath for you? They said: "They are not Muslims." So the Messenger of Allah paid (the Diyah) himself, and he sent one hundred she-camels to their abodes. Sahl said: "A red she-camel from among them kicked me." The eldest one (eldest in regard to age should speak). (Using translation from Muslim 1669a)

[AI] Abdullah ibn Sahl al-Ansari and Muhaishah ibn Mas'ood went to Khaybar and separated for their needs. Abdullah ibn Sahl was killed, and then Muhaishah and Abdurrahman, the brother of the deceased, set out until they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abdurrahman began to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Greater, Greater." Muhaishah and Huwaishah spoke and mentioned the matter of Abdullah ibn Sahl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you swear by fifty and accuse them of killing your companion?" They said, "How can we swear when we did not witness or attend?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then the Jews will acquit you with fifty oaths." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, how can we accept the oaths of disbelieving people?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, the Jew's oaths are acceptable." Bushair ibn Yasir said, "Sahl ibn Abi Hathma outran me in performing a voluntary prayer among those obligatory prayers, and it was in a place called Marbad." We were informed by Muhammad ibn Mansur al-Makki, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Yahya ibn Sa'id, who narrated from Bushair ibn Yasir, who narrated from Sahl ibn Abi Hathma that they found Abdullah ibn Sahl dead. Then his brother, Huwaishah and Muhaishah, who were the uncles of Abdullah ibn Sahl, went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Abdurrahman began to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Greater, Greater." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we found Abdullah ibn Sahl dead in a place called Qulayb, meaning near Khaybar." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who do you accuse?" They said, "We accuse the Jews." He said, "Then you swear by fifty oaths that the Jews killed him?" They said, "How can we swear about something we did not witness?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then the Jews will acquit you with fifty oaths that they did not kill him." They said, "But how can we accept their oaths when they are polytheists?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , through divine inspiration, said, "Abdulrahman, send Malik ibn Anas to retrieve him."

Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and on the righteous servants of Allah." Abu Khaythamah said: "And some of our companions added to this hadith from Hasan: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'" Abu Khaythamah said: "I have preserved this from Hasan in the rest of this hadith: if you do this or fulfill this, then you have fulfilled your prayer. If you wish to stand, then stand. While I was standing in the row on the day (of the battle) of Badr, I looked to my right and my left and saw two young Ansari boys, and I wished I had been stronger than they. One of them called my attention saying, "O Uncle! Do you know Abu Jahl?" I said, "Yes, What do you want from him, O my nephew?" He said, "I have been informed that he abuses Messenger of Allah ﷺ. By Him in Whose Hands my life is, if I should see him, then my body will not leave his body till either of us meet his fate." I was astonished at that talk. Then the other boy called my attention saying the same as the other had said. After a while I saw Abu Jahl walking amongst the people. I said (to the boys), "Look! This is the man you asked me about." So, both of them attacked him with their swords and struck him to death and returned to Allah'S Apostle to inform him of that. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Which of you has killed him?" Each of them said, "I Have killed him." Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Have you cleaned your swords?" They said, "No. " He then looked at their swords and said, "No doubt, you both have killed him and the spoils of the deceased will be given to Muʿadh bin ʿAmr bin Al-Jamuh." The two boys were Muʿadh bin 'Afra and Muʿadh bin ʿAmr bin Al-Jamuh. (Using translation from Bukhārī 3141)

[AI] When the people of Makkah sent their captives as tribute, Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was sent as tribute for Abu Al-As. She was sent with a necklace that Khadijah had given her to wear when she was married to Abu Al-As. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw her, he was greatly moved and said, "If you see fit, then free her captive and return to her what belongs to her." They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah," so they freed her and returned to her what belonged to her. Al-Abbas then said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a Muslim." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah knows best about your Islam, so if it is as you say, then Allah will reward you. So, free yourself, as well as the two sons of your brother Nawfal bin Al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib and Aqeel bin Abi Talib bin Abd al-Muttalib, and your ally Uthbah bin Amr bin Jahdam, who is from the tribe of Bani Harith bin Fihr." Al-Abbas said, "I do not have that with me, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then where is the wealth that you buried, along with Umm Al-Fadl?" He said to her, "If I am saved, then this wealth belongs to the Bani Fadl and Abdullah and Qutham." Al-Abbas said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I know that you are His Messenger, and this is something that no one besides me and Umm Al-Fadl knows. So, please accept on my behalf what you and your companions have received of the twenty ounces of wealth that I had with me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ agreed, and Al-Abbas, along with his two brothers and his ally, were freed. Allah revealed in the Quran, [O Prophet, say to the captives in your hands, 'If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you and forgive you.' And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.] (Al-Anfal 70). Allah compensated me with twenty slaves, all of whom had wealth that they could use to help me, in addition to what I hoped for in terms of Allah's forgiveness. This is what our Sheikh Abu Abdullah informed us in his book Al-Mustadrak (12850). Ibn Ishaq also mentioned this in his book Maghazi. Then, Yunus said, "Ibn Ishaq returned to the earlier chain of narrators and mentioned the sending of Quraysh to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with their captives as tribute, and every group ransomed its captive with whatever pleased it. Then, he mentioned Al-Abbas' story with a chain of narrators after mentioning some other narrations, and their Hadiths all came together in what I mentioned to you on the Day of Badr." Then, he started returning to those narrations without mentioning this particular chain. And Allah knows best.

He said, 'I have the best of the Arabs and the most beautiful of them, Umm Habiba bint Abi Sufyan. I want to marry her to you.' He said, 'Yes?' He said, 'And will you appoint Muawiyah as your scribe?' He said, 'Yes?' He said, 'And will you command me to fight against the disbelievers as I used to fight against the Muslims?' He said, 'Yes?' Abu Zumayl said, 'If he did not ask the Prophet for that, he would not have been granted it, because he would not ask for anything unless the Prophet would say yes.'"

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have given myself to you." So she stood up for a long time. Then a man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you do not need her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you have anything that you can give her as a dowry?" He said, "I only have my waistcloth." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "If you give it to her, you will have to sit without a waistcloth. So seek something else." He said, "I cannot find anything." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Seek something, even if it is an iron ring." So he searched but did not find anything. Then the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have anything from the Quran?" He said, "Yes, I have Surah So-and-So and Surah So-and-So." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have married her to you with what you have from the Quran."

[AI] I was a man who had been given something from the other women that no one else had been given. When Ramadan came, I appeared from my wife fearful that I would be affected by her during the night. I continued in this state and couldn't release until dawn caught up with me. While she was with me one night, something was exposed to me from her and I jumped on her. When I woke up in the morning, I went to my people and told them my news. I said, "Come with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." They said, "No, by Allah, we will not go with you for fear that something from the Qur'an will be revealed in us and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say something about us that would remain our disgrace." So you go and do what seems right for you." So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him my news. He said, "You are that person?" I said, "Yes, I am that person, so decide in my matter according to the judgment of Allah, for I am patient and hoping. So I have freed a slave." I struck my neck with my hand and said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I do not possess anything else besides it." He said, "Fast for two consecutive months." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, have I only been afflicted with what I have been afflicted with in fasting?" He said, "Then feed sixty poor people." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, we spent this night of ours in a terrible condition, and we couldn't find anything for dinner." He said, "Go to the person who gave charity from the Banu Zurayq and let him give you something from his dates, so you may feed sixty poor people with it and seek his assistance for your family." So I went to my people and said, "I found difficulty with you. It was narrated to me from this source from Sulayman bin Yasir. And Abu Abdullah Rahman As-Salami allowed me to narrate it with a chain that is similar to this one. He told us that Abu Hassan bin Subayh informed them that I am Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Shirawayh, I am Ishaq al-Hanzali, I am Abdullah bin Idris, I am Muhammad bin Ishaq. He mentioned his chain of narration like this and said at the end, "Go to the person who gave charity from the Banu Zurayq and let him give you something from his dates so you may feed sixty poor people with it, and eat the rest, meaning the leftover dates." This narration indicates that he gives sixty poor people from the dates, and then he eats the rest of the dates. It also indicates what was narrated to us by Abu Ali Ar-Rudbahri, that Abu Bakr bin Dasa told them, Abu Dawood told them, Ibn As-Sarh told them, Ibn Wahb told them, Ibn Lahiah told them, and Amr bin Al-Harith told them, from Bukayr bin Al-Ashajj, from Sulayman bin Yasir, with this narration, who said, "The Prophet ﷺ was given dates, about fifteen Sa's. So he said, 'Give charity with this.' So he said, 'O Messenger of Allah, is there anyone poorer than me and my family?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You and your family eat from it.' This narration agrees with the narration of Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman and Ibn Thawban in the story of Salamah bin Sakhr, and it is stronger. As for the Hadith of Aus bin As-Samit, the narrations differ regarding it.

[AI] How do you say about a man who finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do? He said, ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. So Asim came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked the questions and criticized them. So Uwaimir said, "By Allah, I will not stop until I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that." So Uwaimir came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man finds another man with his wife, should he kill him and you kill him or what should he do?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has revealed the Quran concerning you and your companion. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded both of them to curse each other with what Allah mentioned in His Book." So he said, "So she cursed him." Then he said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I divorce her, I have wronged her." He said, "So he divorced her, and it was a Sunnah for those who came after them from among the cursing parties." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Be cautious, for if she comes with a child called As'ham, it should be attributed to her. It will darken the two eyes, make the legs skinny, and I do not think Uwaimir except that he will be speaking the truth about her. And if she comes with a child called Uhaymir, it will be as if he is a free-roaming bull and I do not think Uwaimir except that he will be lying about her." He said, "She came with him with a description similar to the one the Messenger of Allah ﷺ attributed to him due to Uwaimir's testimony." He said, "After that, he was traced back to his mother."

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ appointed a Muslim to kill a Jew, and Ar-Ramadi said that he appointed a Muslim to kill a dhimmi, and he said, 'I am more entitled than anyone to fulfill my pledge.' It is said that Rabi'ah took this from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Yahya, and the narration revolves around it, with the number 15921. Abu Abdur Rahman Muhammad ibn Al Husayn As-Sulami informed us that Abu Al Hasan Muhammad ibn Muhammad Al Karizi narrated to us from Ali ibn Abdul Aziz who said: Abu Ubaid Al Qasim ibn Salam narrated to me, I heard Ibn Abi Yahya narrating from Ibn Al Munkadir, and I heard Abu Yusuf narrating from Rabi'ah Ar-Ra'i, both of them narrated from Ibn Al Bailamani. Then it was conveyed to me from Ibn Abi Yahya that he said, 'I narrated this to Rabi'ah with this hadith, for indeed the hadith revolves around Ibn Abi Yahya from Abdur Rahman ibn Al Bailamani that the Prophet ﷺ appointed a Muslim with a treaty and said, 'I am more entitled than anyone to fulfill my pledge.' Abu Ubaid said, 'This is a hadith that is not supported (by strong narrators), and nothing like it can be relied upon. As for what is shed in the blood of Muslims, Abu Ubaid said, 'Abdur Rahman ibn Mahdi informed me from Abd Al Wahid ibn Ziyad who said, 'I said to Zufar, "You say that you repel evidence with doubts, yet you have come with the greatest of doubts." He said, 'And what is it?' I said, 'A Muslim is killed by a disbeliever.' He said, 'So bear witness, yourself, that I retract from this.' He said, 'And this is also the saying of the people of Hijaz, they do not bind him with it.' As for his saying, 'And not for the one with a treaty within his treaty,' indeed the one with a treaty from the people of Dar Al Harb who enters upon us with safety, his killing is forbidden upon the Muslims until he returns to his place of safety.' The origin of this is from His saying, 'And if anyone of the Mushrikun seeks your protection then grant him protection so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and then escort him to where he is secure.' (Quran 9:6)."
