[Machine] Bareerah was freed by someone, and she stipulated loyalty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ruled that loyalty is for the one who frees (a slave), and he gave her the choice, so she chose herself. Therefore, he separated between them and imposed the waiting period of a free woman on her. Abu Bakr narrated that Habban said in regards to the phrase "waiting period of a free woman" because Afan ibn Muslim and Amr ibn Aasim narrated it, and they did not mention the waiting period of a free woman. Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, also said this, as did Hudbah from Hammam who commanded her to observe the waiting period of a free woman. 15603 Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl informed us, Abu Sahl ibn Ziyad al-Qattan informed us, Muhammad ibn Hammad ad-Dabbagh informed us, Muhammad ibn Jama'ah informed us, Al-Mu'tamir narrated from Al-Hajjaj al-Bahili from Qatadah from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas who mentioned the story of Bareerah. He said that Ibn Abbas narrated that Abu Bakr mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ imposed the waiting period of a free woman on her.  

بَرِيرَةَ فَأَعْتَقَتهَا وَاشْتَرَطَتِ الْوَلَاءَ فَقَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ وَخَيَّرَهَا فَاخْتَارَتْ نَفْسَهَا فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا وَجَعَلَ عَلَيْهَا عِدَّةَ الْحُرَّةِ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ جَوَّدَ حَبَّانُ فِي قَوْلِهِ عِدَّةُ الْحُرَّةِ لِأَنَّ عَفَّانَ بْنَ مُسْلِمٍ وَعَمْرَو بْنَ عَاصِمٍ رَوَيَاهُ فَقَالَا وَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَعْتَدَّ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرَا عِدَّةَ الْحُرَّةِ قَالَ الْإِمَامُ أَحْمَدُ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَهُ هُدْبَةُ عَنْ هَمَّامٍ فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَعْتَدَّ عِدَّةَ حُرَّةٍ 15603 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ نا أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الدَّبَّاغُ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَامِعٍ نا الْمُعْتَمِرُ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ الْبَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ فَذَكَرَ قِصَّةَ بَرِيرَةَ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ حَدَّثَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهَا عِدَّةَ الْحُرَّةِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed a waiting period for the menstruation of the divorced woman. This was narrated by Abu 'Amir Al-'Aqadi from Abu Ma'shar, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered her to observe the waiting period of a free woman. And Allah knows best.  

رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جَعَلَ عِدَّةَ بَرِيرَةَ عِدَّةَ الْمُطَلَّقَةِ حِينَ فَارَقَتْ زَوْجَهَا وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ وَقَالَ أَمَرَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ تَعْتَدَّ عِدَّةَ الْحُرَّةِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
