"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished a prayer in which he recited out loud, then he said: 'Did any one of you recite with me just now?' A man said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'I was wondering what was distracting me in reciting Quran.'" So the people stopped reciting in prayers in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited out loud when they heard that.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا قَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ  

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished a prayer in which he had recited (the Qur'an) loudly, he asked: Did any of you recite along with me just now? A man replied: Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said: I am wondering what is the matter with me that I have been contended with reciting the Qur'an. He said: When the people heard that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ they ceased reciting (the Qur'an) along with him at the prayers in which he recited aloud. Abu Dawud said: This tradition reported by Ibn Ukaimah has also been narrated by Ma'mar, Yunus, and Usamah b. Zaid on the authority of al-Zuhri similar to the tradition of Malik.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

"Messenger of Allah turned (after praying) from a Salat in which he recited aloud and said: 'Has any one of you recite along with me just now?' A man said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Indeed I said to myself: Why was I being contended with for the Quran?'" He (Az-Zuhri one of the narrators) said: "So when they heard that from Messenger of Allah, the people stopped reciting with Messenger of Allah in the prayers that Messenger of Allah recited aloud."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَعِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Ibn Ukayma al-Laythi from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished a prayer in which he had recited aloud and asked, "Did any of you recite with me just now?" One man said, "Yes, I did, Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I was saying to myself, 'Why am I distracted from the Qur'an?' " When the people heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that, they refrained from reciting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he recited aloud.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ آنِفًا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] Abu Huraira prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a loud voice, then he said the salutation and faced the people. He said, "Did anyone recite with me beforehand?" They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah." He said, "Why did I not compete with the Quran?"  

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً يَجْهَرُ فِيهَا ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ آنِفًا؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ؟  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , performed a prayer in which he recited aloud. When he finished, he said, "Did anyone recite along with me?" A man from the people said, "I did." He said, "I say, what disagreement do I have regarding the Qur'an?"  

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً فَجَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مَعِي آنِفًا؟ قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ  

[Machine] On the authority of Abdullah ibn Buhaina, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Has anyone among you recited the Qur'an along with me from the beginning?" They replied, "Yes." He said, "Verily, I only recite what is revealed to me. People have refrained from reciting along with me since I said that."  

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ ابْنِ بُحَيْنَةَ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مَعِي آنِفًا؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَهُ حِينَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ

[Machine] Abu Huraira heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leading us in prayer and he recited loudly. When he finished the prayer, he said, "Did any one of you recite with me?" They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Why did I not hear anyone arguing with me in the recitation of the Qur'an?"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا؟ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ؟ قَالَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ رَوَى حَدِيثَ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ هَذَا مَعْمَرٌ وَيُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَلَى مَعْنَى مَالِكٍ  

"عَنْ عَبْد الله بْنِ بُحَيْنَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ قَالَ: هَلْ قَرَأَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنفًا في الصَّلَاةِ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ الله، قَالَ: أَمَا إِنِّى أَقُولُ: مَالِىَ أُنَازعُ الْقُرْآنَ؟ ! فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَن الْقرَاءَةِ حينَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ".  

"إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى صَلَاةً يَجْهَرُ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بَعْدَمَا سَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: هَلْ قَرأَ مِنْكُمْ مَعِى أَحَدٌ آنِفًا؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ الله! قَالَ: إِنِّى أَقُولُ مَالِىَ أُنَازعُ الْقُرآنَ فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا يَجْهَرُ بِهِ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ".
