Ibn Abi Nu'm said, "I was with Ibn 'Umar when a man asked him about the blood of gnats. He asked, 'Where are you from?' 'From the people of Iraq,' he replied. He said, 'Look at this man! He asks about the blood of gnats when they murdered the grandson of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace! I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'They are my sweet basil in this world.'"

كُنْتُ شَاهِدًا ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِذْ سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضَةِ؟ فَقَالَ مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟ فَقَالَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فَقَالَ انْظُرُوا إِلَى هَذَا يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضَةِ وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا ابْنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ هُمَا رَيْحَانَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا

˹Abdullah b. Umar ᴿᴬ˺ was asked about a person in ihram, Shubah said, “I think it was about killing flies.” He said, “The people of Iraq ask about flies, while they have killed the son of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: "They are my two fragrant flowers from this world."”

وَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْمُحْرِمِ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: أَحْسِبُهُ يَقْتُلُ الذُّبَابَ، فَقَالَ: أَهْلُ الْعِرَاقِ يَسْأَلُونَ عَنِ الذُّبَابِ، وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا ابْنَ ابْنَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «هُمَا رَيْحَانَتَاىَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا».

[AI] I was present with Ibn Umar when a man asked him about the blood of mosquitoes. He said, “Where are you from?” He replied, “From the people of Iraq.” He said, “Look at this one: he asks me about the blood of mosquitoes, while they have killed the son of the Prophet ﷺ. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "They are my two sweet basils in this world."”

كُنْتُ شَاهِدًا لاِبْنِ عُمَرَ، وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ، فَقَالَ: مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟ فَقَالَ: مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ. قَالَ: انْظُرُوا إِلَى هَذَا، يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ، وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا ابْنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «هُمَا رَيْحَانَتَاىَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا».

A person asked ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar whether a Muslim could kill flies. I heard him saying (in reply). "The people of Iraq are asking about the killing of flies while they themselves murdered the son of the daughter of Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Prophet ﷺ said, They (i.e. Hasan and Husain) are my two sweet basils in this world." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3753)

"وَكَيفَ لا أُحِبُّهُمَا وَهُمْ رَيحَانَتَاى مِنَ الدُّنْيَا، أَشمُّهُمَا - يَعْنِي: الْحَسَنَ والْحُسَينَ".
