٤٩۔ كتاب المناقب
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Al-Hasan and Al-Husain are the chiefs of the youths of Paradise."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ سَيِّدَا شَبَابِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ.»
"I came to the Prophet ﷺ one night concerning some need, so the Prophet ﷺ came out while he was covering up something, and I did not know what it was. Once I had tended to my need, I said: 'What is this that you were covering up?' So he uncovered it, and I found it was Hasan and Husain [peace be upon them] upon his hips. So he said: 'These are my two sons, and the sons of my daughter. O Allah! Indeed, I love them, so love them, and love those who love them.'"
طَرَقْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فِي بَعْضِ الْحَاجَةِ فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَى شَيْءٍ لاَ أَدْرِي مَا هُوَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ مِنْ حَاجَتِي قُلْتُ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي أَنْتَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَكَشَفَهُ فَإِذَا حَسَنٌ وَحُسَيْنٌ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى وَرِكَيْهِ فَقَالَ: «هَذَانِ ابْنَاىَ وَابْنَا ابْنَتِي اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُمَا فَأَحِبَّهُمَا وَأَحِبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّهُمَا.»
that a man from the people of Al-'Iraq asked Ibn 'Umar about the blood of a gnat that gets on the clothes. Ibn 'Umar said "Look at this one, he asks about the blood of a gnat while they killed the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed Al-Hasan and Al-Husain - they are my two sweet basils in the world.'"
أَنَّ رَجُلاً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ سَأَلَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ يُصِيبُ الثَّوْبَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ انْظُرُوا إِلَى هَذَا يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دَمِ الْبَعُوضِ وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ هُمَا رَيْحَانَتَاىَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا.»
"I entered upon Umm Salamah while she was crying, so I said: 'What causes you to cry?' She said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah - that is, in a dream - and there was was dirt on his head and his beard. so I said: "What is wrong with you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: 'I just witnessed the killing of Al-Husain.'"
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَهِيَ تَبْكِي فَقُلْتُ مَا يُبْكِيكِ قَالَتْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَعْنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ وَعَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ التُّرَابُ فَقُلْتُ مَا لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ: «شَهِدْتُ قَتْلَ الْحُسَيْنِ آنِفًا.»
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: "Which of the people of your house are most beloved to you?" He said: "Al-Hasan and Al-Husain." And he used to say to Fatimah: "Call my two sons for me so that I may smell them." And he would hug them.
سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَىُّ أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ لِفَاطِمَةَ ادْعِي لِي ابْنَىَّ فَيَشُمُّهُمَا وَيَضُمُّهُمَا إِلَيْهِ
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the Minbar and said: "Indeed, this son of mine is a chief, Allah shall bring peace between two [tremendous] parties through his hands."
صَعِدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمِنْبَرَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ يُصْلِحُ اللَّهُ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ فِئَتَيْنِ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a Khutbah to us when Al-Hasan and Al-Husain [peace be upon them] came, wearing red shirts, walking and falling down. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended from the Minbar and carried them, and placed them in front of him. Then he said: 'Allah spoke the Truth: Indeed, your wealth and your children are a trial (64:15). I looked at these two children walking and falling down, and I could not bear patiently anymore until I interrupted my talk and picked them up."
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُنَا إِذْ جَاءَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِمَا قَمِيصَانِ أَحْمَرَانِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْمِنْبَرِ فَحَمَلَهُمَا وَوَضَعَهُمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ ( إنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلاَدُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ ) نَظَرْتُ إِلَى هَذَيْنِ الصَّبِيَّيْنِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَلَمْ أَصْبِرْ حَتَّى قَطَعْتُ حَدِيثِي وَرَفَعْتُهُمَا
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Husain is from me, and I am from Husain. Allah loves whoever loves Husain. Husain is a Sibt among the Asbat." [Asbat, plural of Sibt: A great tribe. Meaning, Al-Husain would have many offspring, such that they would become a great tribe. And this has indeed occurred. See Tuhfat Al-Ahwadhi (4/341).]
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حُسَيْنٌ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْ حُسَيْنٍ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ مَنْ أَحَبَّ حُسَيْنًا حُسَيْنٌ سِبْطٌ مِنَ الأَسْبَاطِ
"None of them used to resemble the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more than Al-Hasan bin 'Ali."
لَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَشْبَهَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ مِنَ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ
"I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Al-Hasan bin 'Ali used to resemble him."
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يُشْبِهُهُ
"I was with Ibn Ziyad and the head of Al-Husain was brought. He began to poke it in the nose with a stick that he had, saying: 'I do not see the like of this as beautiful, why is he mentioned as such?'" He said: "I said: 'Behold, he was of the closest of them in resemblance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"
كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ زِيَادٍ فَجِيءَ بِرَأْسِ الْحُسَيْنِ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ بِقَضِيبٍ لَهُ فِي أَنْفِهِ وَيَقُولُ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ هَذَا حُسْنًا لَمْ يُذْكَرْ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَمَا إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ أَشْبَهِهِمْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
said: "Al-Hasan is greater in resemblance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with regards to what is between the chest and the head, and Al-Husain is greater in resemblance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with regards to what is below that."
الْحَسَنُ أَشْبَهُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا بَيْنَ الصَّدْرِ إِلَى الرَّأْسِ وَالْحُسَيْنُ أَشْبَهُ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَا كَانَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ
"When the heads of 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad and his companions were brought, they were stacked in the Masjid at Ar-Rahbah. So I came to them and they were saying: 'It has come, it has come." And behold, there was a snake going between the heads, until it entered the nostrils of 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad, and it remained there momentarily, then left and went until it had disappeared. Then they said: 'It has come, it has come.' So it did that two or three times."
لَمَّا جِيءَ بِرَأْسِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَأَصْحَابِهِ نُضِّدَتْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ قَدْ جَاءَتْ قَدْ جَاءَتْ فَإِذَا حَيَّةٌ قَدْ جَاءَتْ تَخَلَّلُ الرُّءُوسَ حَتَّى دَخَلَتْ فِي مَنْخَرَىْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ فَمَكَثَتْ هُنَيْهَةً ثُمَّ خَرَجَتْ فَذَهَبَتْ حَتَّى تَغَيَّبَتْ ثُمَّ قَالُوا قَدْ جَاءَتْ قَدْ جَاءَتْ فَفَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثًا
"My mother asked me: 'When is your planned time - meaning with the Prophet ﷺ?' So I said: 'I have not had a planned time to see him since such and such time.' She rebuked me, so I said to her: 'Let me go to the Prophet ﷺ so that I may perform Maghrib (prayer) with him, and ask him to seek forgiveness for you and I.' So I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and I prayed Maghrib with him, then he prayed until he prayed Al-'Isha. Then he turned, and I followed him, and he heard my voice, and said: 'Who is this? Hudhaifah?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: "What is your need, may Allah forgive you and your mother?' He said: 'Indeed, this is an angel that never descended to the earth ever before tonight. He sought permission from his Lord to greet me with peace and to give me the glad tidings that Fatimah is the chief of the women of Paradise, and that Al-Hasan and Al-Husain are the chiefs of the youths of the people of Paradise.'"
سَأَلَتْنِي أُمِّي مَتَى عَهْدُكَ تَعْنِي بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ مَا لِي بِهِ عَهْدٌ مُنْذُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَنَالَتْ مِنِّي فَقُلْتُ لَهَا دَعِينِي آتِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأُصَلِّيَ مَعَهُ الْمَغْرِبَ وَأَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرَ لِي وَلَكِ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ الْمَغْرِبَ فَصَلَّى حَتَّى صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ ثُمَّ انْفَتَلَ فَتَبِعْتُهُ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتِي فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا حُذَيْفَةُ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ مَا حَاجَتُكَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَلأُمِّكَ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا مَلَكٌ لَمْ يَنْزِلِ الأَرْضَ قَطُّ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ اسْتَأْذَنَ رَبَّهُ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ عَلَىَّ وَيُبَشِّرَنِي بِأَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَأَنَّ الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ سَيِّدَا شَبَابِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ
The Prophet ﷺ made duʿāʾ to have love for his two grandsons: al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn
that the Prophet ﷺ saw al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn, so he said: "O Allah, I love them, so love them."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَبْصَرَ حَسَنًا وَحُسَيْنًا فَقَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُمَا فَأَحِبَّهُمَا.»
"I saw the Prophet ﷺ placing Al-Hasan bin 'Ali upon his shoulder while saying: 'O Allah, I love him, so love him.'"
سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَاضِعًا الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُ فَأَحِبَّهُ.»
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was carrying Al-Hasan bin 'Ali upon his shoulder, so a man said: "What an excellent mount you are riding, O child." So the Prophet ﷺ said: "And what an excellent rider he is."
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَامِلَ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ نِعْمَ الْمَرْكَبُ رَكِبْتَ يَا غُلاَمُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَنِعْمَ الرَّاكِبُ هُوَ
"'Ali bin Abi Talib said: 'The Prophet SAW said: "Indeed every Prophet is given seven select attendants" - or he said: "guards" - "and I was given fourteen." We said: "Who are they?" He said: 'Myself, my two sons (Al-Hasan and Al-Husain), Ja'far, Hamzah, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, Mus'ab bin 'Umair, Bilal, Salman, 'Ammar, Al-Miqdad, Hudhaifah, Abu Dharr, and 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud.'"
قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ كُلَّ نَبِيٍّ أُعْطِيَ سَبْعَةَ نُجَبَاءَ أَوْ نُقَبَاءَ وَأُعْطِيتُ أَنَا أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ قُلْنَا مَنْ هُمَ قَالَ أَنَا وَابْنَاىَ وَجَعْفَرٌ وَحَمْزَةُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَمُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ وَبِلاَلٌ وَسَلْمَانُ وَعَمَّارٌ وَالْمِقْدَادُ وَ حُذَيْفَةُ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ
