While I was sitting between 'Abd Allah and Abu Musa, the latter said: Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, what do you think if a man becomes defiled (because of seminal omission) and does not find water for a month; should he not perform tayammum ? He replied: No, even if he does not find water for a month. Abu Musa then said: How will you do with the Qur'anic version (about tayammum) in the chapter al-Ma'idah which says: "... and you find no water, then go to clean, high ground" (5:6)? 'Abd Allah (b. Mas'ud) then said: If they (the people) are granted concession in this respect, they might perform tayammum with pure earth when water is cold. Abu Musa said: For this (reason) you forbade it ? He said: Yes. Abu Musa then said: Did you not hear what 'Ammar said to 'Umar ? (He said): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on some errand. I had seminal emission and I did not find water. Therefore, I rolled on the ground just as an animal rolls down. I then came to the Prophet ﷺ and made a mention of that to him. He said: It would have been enough for you to do thus. Then he struck the ground with his hands and shook them off and then stuck the right hand with his left hand and his left hand with his right hand (and wiped) over his hands (up to the wrist) and wiped his face. 'Abd Allah then said to him: Did you not see that 'Umar was not satisfied with the statement of 'Ammar ? (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 321)

He said, "My father said, gather together so that I can show you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution and how he used to pray. I do not know the significance of my companionship with you." He then gathered his children and family and called for water for ablution. He gargled, rinsed his mouth, spat, washed his face three times, washed his right hand three times, washed his left hand three times, wiped his head and ears both externally and internally, washed his right foot three times, and washed his left foot three times. He said, "This is how I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution." Then he entered his house and prayed a prayer that we did not know what it was. Then he came out and commanded for the prayer to be established, and the noon prayer was performed with us. I think I heard verses from him recite it from Surah Yaseen (Chapter 36). Then he prayed the afternoon prayer, then he prayed the Maghrib prayer with us, and then he prayed the Isha prayer with us. He said, "I wish that I can show you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution and how he used to pray."

[Machine] I said, "I don't know, but I don't see you doing it unless it is for good." He said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me, and he did to me what I did to you. He asked me, so I said the same thing you said to me." He said, "There are no two Muslims who meet each other and greet one another, holding each other's hands, except that they will not part ways until their sins are forgiven."

ahmad:18602Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Abū Rajāʾ > Muḥammad b. Mālik

[Machine] I saw on Al-Bara' a gold ring, and people were asking him, "Why do you wear a gold ring when the Prophet ﷺ forbade it?" Al-Bara' replied, "While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, there was a war booty in front of him, which included camels and sheep. He distributed everything until only this ring remained. He lifted one end of the ring and looked at his companions, then lowered it, then raised it again and looked at them, repeating this action several times. Then he said, 'Oh Bara', I came to him and sat in front of him. He took the ring and reached out his hand towards my finger, and said, 'Wear it, let it be a sign that Allah and His Messenger have clothed you.' Al-Bara' used to say, 'How can you ask me to remove what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me to wear, let it be a sign that Allah and His Messenger have clothed you?'"

[Machine] I asked Baraa' ibn 'Aazib, "What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dislike or prohibit regarding the sacrificial animals?" He stood up among us and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'His hand is longer than mine,' or he said, 'My hand is shorter than his.' He said, 'There are four types of animals that are not permissible for sacrifice: a one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, a limping animal whose limp is obvious, and a broken-back animal that does not benefit.' So I said to Baraa', 'We also dislike having any deficiency in the ear, eye, or tooth.' He replied, 'If you dislike it, leave it, and do not prohibit it for anyone else.'
