Whom do you consider to be a martyr among you? They (the Companions) said: Messenger, of Allah, one who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr. He said: Then (if this is the definition of a martyr) the martyrs of my Umma will be small in number. They asked: Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: One who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr; one who dies in the way of Allah, is a martyr; one who dies of plague is a martyr; one who dies of cholera is a martyr. Ibn Miqsam said: I testify the truth of your father's statement (with regard to this tradition) that the Prophet ﷺ said: One who is drowned is a martyr.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ قَالُوا فَمَنْ هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي الطَّاعُونِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي الْبَطْنِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ ابْنُ مِقْسَمٍ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى أَبِيكَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ

"There are five things, whoever dies of any of them is a martyr. The one who is killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr; the one who dies of an abdominal complaint in the cause of Allah is a martyr; the one who dies of the plague in the cause of Allah is a martyr; and the woman who dies in childbirth in the cause of Allah is a martyr."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ خَمْسٌ مَنْ قُبِضَ فِي شَىْءٍ مِنْهُنَّ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ الْمَقْتُولُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِقُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهِيدٌ

"We thought that your death would come when fighting in the cause of Allah." He said: "You think that martyrdom only comes when one is killed in the cause of Allah. In that case your martyrs would be few. Being killed in the cause of Allah is martyrdom, dying of an abdominal complaint is martyrdom, being burned to death is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, being crushed beneath a falling wall is martyrdom, dying of pleurisy is martyrdom, and the woman who dies along with her fetus is a martyr." A man said: "Are you weeping when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is sitting here?" He said: "Let them be, but if he dies on one should weep for him."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَادَ جَبْرًا فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ سَمِعَ النِّسَاءَ يَبْكِينَ وَيَقُلْنَ كُنَّا نَحْسُبُ وَفَاتَكَ قَتْلاً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ وَمَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهَادَةَ إِلاَّ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَكُمْ إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْحَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَغْمُومُ يَعْنِي الْهَدِمَ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَجْنُوبُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدَةٌ قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَتَبْكِينَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَاعِدٌ قَالَ دَعْهُنَّ فَإِذَا وَجَبَ فَلاَ تَبْكِيَنَّ عَلَيْهِ بَاكِيَةٌ

“We hoped that when he died it would be as a martyr in the cause of Allah.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “In that case the martyrs of my nation would be few. Being killed in the cause of Allah is martyrdom; dying of the plague is martyrdom; when a pregnant woman dies in childbirth that is martyrdom; and dying of drowning, or burning, or of pleurisy, is martyrdom.”

أَنَّهُ مَرِضَ فَأَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ إِنْ كُنَّا لَنَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونَ وَفَاتُهُ قَتْلَ شَهَادَةٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهَادَةٌ يَعْنِي الْحَامِلَ وَالْغَرِقُ وَالْحَرِقُ وَالْمَجْنُوبُ يَعْنِي ذَاتَ الْجَنْبِ شَهَادَةٌ

“What do you say among yourselves about the martyr?” They said: “The one who is killed in the cause of Allah.” He said: “In that case the martyrs among my nation would be few. Whoever is killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr; whoever dies in the cause of Allah is a martyr; whoever dies of a stomach disease is a martyr; and whoever dies of the plague is a martyr.” Another chain narrates with the addition of "and the drowned is a martyr."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا تَقُولُونَ فِي الشَّهِيدِ فِيكُمْ قَالُوا الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ سُهَيْلٌ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مِقْسَمٍ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ وَالْغَرِقُ شَهِيدٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Being killed in the way of Allah is martyrdom, and dying due to a widespread disease is martyrdom, and death due to a stomach disease is martyrdom, and a woman being killed by her child is also martyrdom."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَقْتُلُهَا وَلَدُهَا جُمْعًا شَهَادَةٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "How do you consider the martyr among you?" They said: "The one who is killed in the cause of Allah." He said: "Verily, the martyrs of my Ummah (nation) are few. The killing in the cause of Allah is martyrdom, while the stomach is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, childbirth is martyrdom, and dying due to plague is martyrdom."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟ قَالُوا مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطَنُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The one killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr, and the one who dies due to a plague is a martyr, and the one who dies due to a stomach illness is a martyr, and whoever dies in the cause of Allah is a martyr."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِشَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to Abdullah ibn Rawahah. He couldn't find his bed, so he asked, "Who are the martyrs of my ummah?" They replied, "The killing of a Muslim is martyrdom." He said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my ummah are few. The killing of a Muslim is martyrdom, and so is death due to plague, stomach disease, drowning, or a woman being killed by her child altogether."

عَادَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ فَمَا تَحَوَّزَ لَهُ عَنْ فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ مَنْ شُهَدَاءُ أُمَّتِي؟ قَالُوا قَتْلُ الْمُسْلِمِ شَهَادَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ قَتْلُ الْمُسْلِمِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ وَالْغَرَقُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَقْتُلُهَا وَلَدُهَا جَمْعَاءَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "How do you count the martyr among you?" They said: "The one who fights and is killed in the cause of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, the martyrs of my Ummah are few. The one killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies of the plague is a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach illness is a martyr, and a woman who dies due to childbirth is a martyr."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟ قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقَاتِلُ فَيُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدٌ يَعْنِي النُّفَسَاءَ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned with Abdullah ibn Rawaha, who said: 'What do you think is the reward for him who does not leave his bed?' They said: 'The martyrs of my nation.' He said: 'Verily, the martyrs of my nation are but few. Killing a Muslim is martyrdom, the plague is martyrdom, and a woman is killed by her child is also considered martyrdom.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَادَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ قَالَ فَمَا تَحَوَّزَ لَهُ عَنْ فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ أَتَدْرِي مَنْ شُهَدَاءُ أُمَّتِي؟ قَالُوا قَتْلُ الْمُسْلِمِ شَهَادَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ قَتْلُ الْمُسْلِمِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَقْتُلُهَا وَلَدُهَا جَمْعَا شَهَادَةٌ

[AI] To be a martyr, indeed you have sacrificed your life. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah has decreed its reward according to one's intention. What do you consider martyrdom to be?" They said, "Being killed for the sake of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Martyrdom is seven, other than being killed for the sake of Allah: one who dies due to a plague is a martyr, one who dies drowning is a martyr, one who dies due to a disease in the abdomen is a martyr, one who dies due to a fire is a martyr, one who dies under a collapsing building is a martyr, one who dies as a result of childbirth is a martyr, and a woman who dies while defending her honor is a martyr."

أَنْ تَكُونَ شَهِيدًا أَمَا إِنَّكَ قَدْ كُنْتَ قَضَيْتَ جِهَازَكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَوْقَعَ أَجْرَهُ عَلَى قَدْرِ نِيَّتِهِ وَمَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهَادَةَ؟ قَالُوا قَتْلٌ فِي سَبِيلِاللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الشَّهَادَةُ سَبْعٌ سِوَى الْقَتْلِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ الْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِقُ شَهِيدٌ وَصَاحِبُ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَصَاحِبُ الْحَرِيقِ شَهِيدٌ وَالَّذِي يَمُوتُ تَحْتَ الْهَدْمِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدَةٌ

Whom do you consider to be a martyr among you? They (the Companions) said: Messenger, of Allah, one who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ تَعُدُّونَ الشُّهَدَاءَ فِيكُمْ؟ » قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ» قَالُوا مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي الطَّاعُونِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي بَطْنٍ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "Who do you consider as martyrs among you?" They said, "Those who are killed in the cause of Allah." He saidﷺ "And whoever dies in the cause of Allah is a martyr, and whoever dies from the plague is a martyr."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ تَعُدُّونَ الشُّهَدَاءَ فِيكُمْ؟ » قَالُوا مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ ﷺ «وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي طَاعُونٍ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ»

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْحَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَقْتُلُهَا وَلَدُهَا فِي بَطْنِهَا شَهَادَةٌ

قَالَ عَادَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا مَرِيضٌ فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَنِ الشَّهِيدُ ؟ فَسَكَتُوا فَقُلْتُ لِامْرَأَتِي أَسْنِدِينِي فَأَسْنَدَتْنِي فَقُلْتُ الشَّهِيدُ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ ثُمَّ هَاجَرَ ثُمَّ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ما تعدون الشهيد فيكم قالوا القتل في سبيل الله عز وجل قال إن شهداء أمتي إذا لقليل القتل شهادة والغرق شهادة والمرأة يقتلها ولدها شهادة وَهَذَا الحديثُ لاَ نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عن ابن سيرين عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ إلا الطفاوي وحده

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited him during his illness, and someone said, "If we hope that his death will be as a result of being killed in the way of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my Ummah are few. The one who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies due to a stomach disease is a martyr, the one who dies due to the plague is a martyr, the one who drowns is a martyr, the one who dies due to a fire is a martyr, and the one who dies due to a falling building is a martyr."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَادَهُ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ إِنْ كُنَّ لَنَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونَ وَفَاتُهُ قَتْلًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْحَرِقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَجْنُوبُ شَهِيدٌ»

[AI] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the Zakat three times, and he said, "Why did you not bring the witness with you?" They said, "The one who is killed in the way of Allah." He said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my Ummah (nation) are few. Death in the way of Allah is martyrdom, the plague is martyrdom, a woman who dies during childbirth is martyrdom, death by burning is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, death by plague is martyrdom, and death due to a stomach disease is martyrdom."

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِالزَّكاةِ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ فَقَالَ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْحَرْقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالسُّلُّ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who do you consider a martyr among you?" They said, "The one who is killed in the cause of Allah." He said, "Verily, the martyrs of my nation are few. The one who dies of a stomach disease is a martyr, the one who dies of a plague is a martyr, the pregnant woman who dies giving birth is a martyr."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said one day to his companions, "What do you consider to be martyrs among you?" They said, "Those who are killed in the way of Allah, remaining patient, seeking reward, not turning away in retreat, they are martyrs." He said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my Ummah (nation) are few. The one who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, and the one who dies on his bed in the way of Allah is a martyr, and the one who dies in his mother's womb is a martyr, and the one who dies due to a stomach disease is a martyr, and the one who dies due to drowning is a martyr, and the one who dies due to burning is a martyr, and the one who is killed by a lion is a martyr, and the one who separates from his mount is a martyr, and the one who is killed in a collapsing building is a martyr, and the one who is killed in a side battle is a martyr, and the woman who is killed and her child drags her with his ribs to Paradise is a martyr."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمًا لِأَصْحَابِهِ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشُّهَدَاءَ فِيكُمْ؟» قَالُوا مَنْ يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ الْمَقْتُولُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْءُ يَمُوتُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَاللديغُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالشريقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالَّذِي يَفْتَرِسُهُ السَّبُعُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْخَارُّ عَنْ دَابَّتِهِ شَهِيدٌ وَصَاحِبُ الْهَدْمِ شَهِيدٌ وَصَاحِبُ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ شَهِيدٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ يَقْتُلُهَا وَلَدُهَا يَجُرُّهَا بِسَرَرِهِ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ

[AI] The Messenger ﷺ came to us and said, "How do you consider someone as a martyr among you?" We replied, "The one who is killed in the cause of Allah." He said, "The one who is killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr, and the one who dies by drowning in the cause of Allah is a martyr, and the one who is killed in the cause of Allah by a stomach illness is a martyr, and a woman who dies due to childbirth is a martyr."

خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قال «مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ غَرِقَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَمَنْ قَتَلَهُ الْبَطْنُ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ يَقْتُلُهَا نِفَاسُهَا فَهِيَ شَهِيدَةٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day, "How do you count the martyr among you?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah, those who are killed in the cause of Allah." He said, "Indeed, the martyrs of my nation are few. Those who are killed in the cause of Allah are martyrs, the one who dies of a stomach disease is a martyr, the one who is killed while protecting his property is a martyr, the woman who dies during childbirth is a martyr, and the one who dies by drowning is a martyr." Al-Hulwani added in his narration, "And the one who dies of plague is a martyr, the one who dies in a fire is a martyr, and the one who dies in a foreign land is a martyr."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمُتَرَدِّي شَهِيدٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ» زَادَ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ «وَالسُّلُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْحَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالَغَرِيبُ شَهِيدٌ»

"There are five things, whoever dies of any of them is a martyr. The one who is killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr; the one who dies of an abdominal complaint in the cause of Allah is a martyr; the one who dies of the plague in the cause of Allah is a martyr; and the woman who dies in childbirth in the cause of Allah is a martyr." أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ خَمْسٌ مَنْ قُبِضَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْهُنَّ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ الْمَقْتُولُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهِيدٌ

"أتدرونَ من شُهداءُ أَمَّتى؟ قالوا: قتل المسلم شهادة، قال: إن

شهداء أمتى إِذًا لقليلٌ، قتلُ المسلِم شهادةٌ، والبطنُ شهادةٌ، والغرقُ شهادةٌ، والمرْأَةُ يقتُلُها ولدُها جُمْعًا شَهَادةٌ".

"إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَتَّى إِذَا لَقليلٌ - القَتْلُ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ شهادةٌ، والمطعونُ شَهَادَةٌ، والمرأَةُ تموتُ بِجُمْعٍ شهَادَةٌ، والغَرَقُ، وَالْحَرْقُ، والْمَجْنُوبُ شَهَادَةٌ".

"الشَّهَادَةُ سَبعٌ سوى القَتْلِ في سَبيلِ الله المقْتُولُ في سَبيِل الله شَهِيدٌ، والمطعُون شَهيدٌ، والغَريقُ شَهيدٌ، وصَاحِبُ ذاتِ الجَنْب شَهدٌ، والمبْطُوُنُ شَهيدٌ، وصَاحِبُ الحَريق شَهِيدٌ، والذى يَمُوتُ تَحْتَ الهَدمِ شَهيدٌ، والمرأةُ تَمُوتُ بجُمع شَهيدةٌ" .

"الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيل الله ﷻ شَهَادَةٌ، والطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ، والْبَطنُ شَهَادةٌ، والْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ والنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ" .

"خَمْسٌ منْ قُبِضَ في شىِء مِنهُنَّ فَهُو شَهِيدٌ: المَقْتُولُ في سَبيلِ اللَّهِ شهيدُ، والغَريقُ في سبيل اللَّه شهيدٌ، والمبْطُونُ في سبيل اللَّه شهيدٌ، والمَطْعونُ في سبيل اللَّه شهيدُ، والنُفَساءُ في سبيل اللَّه شهيدةٌ".

"مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟ ، قَالُوا: الَّذِي يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبيلِ الله، قَال: إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلُ (*) القَتْلُ فِي سَبيلِ الله شَهَادَة والطَّاعُونْ شهادَةٌ والنّفسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ، والحرْقُ شَهادةٌ، والغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ، والسُّلُ شَهادةٌ، والبَطن شَهَادَةٌ".

"مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشهيدَ فيكم؟ ، قَالوا: مَنْ يُقْتَل (*) في سَبيل الله، قال: إِنَّ شهداء أمَّتِي لَقَلِيلٌ، القتلُ في سبيل الله شهادةٌ، والبَطنُ شهَادَةٌ، والغَرَقُ شهَادَةٌ، والطَّاعُون شَهَادَةٌ، والنُّفَساءُ شَهَادَةٌ".

"مَا تَعدُّونَ الشهداءَ فِيكم؟ ، قَالُوا: مَنْ يُقْتلُ في سبيلِ اللهِ، قال: إن شهداءَ أمَّتِي إِذَن لقليل، المقتولُ في سبيلِ الله شهيدٌ، والمرءُ يموتُ على فِراشه في سبيلِ الله شهيدٌ، والمبطونُ شهيدٌ واللديغُ شَهِيدٌ، والغريقُ شهيدٌ، والشّريقُ شَهِيدٌ، والَّذَى يَفْترسُه السَّبعُ شَهيدٌ، والخار عن دابته شهيد، وصاحب الهدم شهيد، وَصَاحبُ ذَات الجَنْب شَهِيدٌ والنَّفَسَاءُ يَقْتُلُها وَلَدُهَا يَجُرها بِسَرَرِهِ إِلَى الجنّة".

"مَا تَقُولُونَ فِي الشَّهِيدِ فِيكُمْ؟ قَالوا: القَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَال: إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيل، مَن قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ فِي سِبيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَالمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ، وَالمَطعُونُ شَهِيدٌ، والغَرقُ شَهِيدٌ".

"مَنْ قُتِل في سَبيل الله فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ في سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ في الطَّاعونِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ في الْبَطنِ فَهوَ شَهِيدٌ، وَمنْ غَرِقَ [فَهوَ (*] شَهِيدٌ".

"وَمَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهادَةَ إِلا مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ؟ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَكُم إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ، الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ الله شَهَادَةٌ، وَالْبَطْنُ شَهادَةٌ والحَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ، والغَرَقُ شهَادَةٌ، والمَغْمُومُ -يَعْنِي: الهَدْمَ- شَهَادَةٌ، والمجْنُوبُ شَهادَةٌ، والْمرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدَةٌ".
