I asked the Prophet (about the hunting dogs) and he replied, "If you let loose (with Allah's name) your tamed dog after a game and it hunts it, you may eat it, but if the dog eats of (that game) then do not eat it because the dog has hunted it for itself." I further said, "Sometimes I send my dog for hunting and find another dog with it. He said, "Do not eat the game for you have mentioned Allah's name only on sending your dog and not the other dog."

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ فَقَتَلَ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَكَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي فَأَجِدُ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا آخَرَ قَالَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى كَلْبٍ آخَرَ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the Mi'rad. He said, "If you hit the game with its sharp edge, eat it, but if the Mi'rad hits the game with its shaft with a hit by its broad side do not eat it, for it has been beaten to death with a piece of wood. (i.e. unlawful)." I asked, "If I let loose my trained hound after a game?" He said, "If you let loose your trained hound after game, and mention the name of Allah, then you can eat." I said, "If the hound eats of the game?" He said "Then you should not eat of it, for the hound has hunted the game for itself and not for you." I said, "Some times I send my hound and then I find some other hound with it?" He said "Don't eat the game, as you have mentioned the Name of Allah on your dog only and not on the other."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَصَبْتَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ فَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَقَتَلَ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَقُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ قَالَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي فَأَجِدُ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا آخَرَ قَالَ لاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ إِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى آخَرَ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ. "We hunt with the help of these hounds." He said, "If you let loose your trained hounds after a game, and mention the name of Allah, then you can eat what the hounds catch for you, even if they killed the game. But you should not eat of it if the hound has eaten of it, for then it is likely that the hound has caught the game for itself. And if other hounds join your hound in hunting the game, then do not eat of it."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَصِيدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلاَبِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلاَبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كِلاَبٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you let loose your hound after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending it, and the hound catches the game and kills it, then you can eat of it. But if the hound eats of it, then you should not eat thereof, for the hound has caught it for itself. And if along with your hound, joined other hounds, and Allah's Name was not mentioned at the time of their sending, and they catch an animal and kill it, you should not eat of it, for you will not know which of them has killed it. And if you have thrown an arrow at the game and then find it (dead) two or three days later and, it bears no mark other than the wound inflicted by your arrow, then you can eat of it. But if the game is found (dead) in water, then do not eat of it."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَأَمْسَكَ وَقَتَلَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا خَالَطَ كِلاَبًا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا فَأَمْسَكْنَ وَقَتَلْنَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَ وَإِنْ رَمَيْتَ الصَّيْدَ فَوَجَدْتَهُ بَعْدَ يَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ لَيْسَ بِهِ إِلاَّ أَثَرُ سَهْمِكَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ وَقَعَ فِي الْمَاءِ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I let loose my hound after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending it." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you let loose your hound after a game and you mention Allah's Name on sending it and the hound catches and kills the game and eats of it, then you should not eat of it, for it has killed it for itself." I said, "Sometimes when I send my hound after a game, I find another hound along with it and I do not know which of them has caught the game." He said, "You must not eat of it because you have not mentioned, the Name of Allah except on sending your own hound, and you did not mention it on the other hound." Then I asked him about the game hunted with a Mi'rad (i.e. a sharp edged piece of wood or a piece of wood provided with a sharp piece of iron used for hunting). He said, "If the game is killed with its sharp edge, you can eat of it, but if it is killed by its broad side (shaft), you cannot eat of it, for then it is like an animal beaten to death with a piece of wood."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي وَأُسَمِّي فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَأَخَذَ فَقَتَلَ فَأَكَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي أَجِدُ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا آخَرَ لاَ أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَخَذَهُ فَقَالَ لاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَصَبْتَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَبْتَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَقَتَلَ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "We hunt with these hounds." He said, "If you send your trained hounds after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending, you can eat of what they catch for you. But if the hound eats of the game, then you must not eat of it, for I am afraid that the hound caught it for itself, and if another hound joins your hounds (during the hunt), you should not eat of the game."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَتَصَيَّدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلاَبِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلاَبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كَلْبٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: We are a people who hunt with these (trained) dogs, then (what should we do)? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: When you set of your trained dogs having recited the name of Allah, then eat what these (hounds) have caught for you, even if it (the game) is killed, provided (the hunting dog) has not eaten (any part of the game). If it has eaten (the game), then you don't eat it as I fear that it might have caught for its own self. And do not eat it if other dogs have joined your trained dogs.

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَصِيدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلاَبِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلاَبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا فَكُلْ مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كِلاَبٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

If it strikes (the game) with its point, then eat, but if it strikes flatly and it dies, that is Waqidh (beaten into death), do not eat that. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about (hunting with the help of) dogs, whereupon he said. When you send your dog (for hunting) reciting the name of Allah, then eat (the game), but if some part of it is eaten (by the dogs, then do not eat that, for it (your dog) has caught that (the-game) for itself. I (again) said: If I find along with my dog another dog, and do not know which of (the dogs) has caught (the game). then (what should I do)? Thereupon he ('Messenger of Allah) said: Then don't eat that, for you recited the name of Allah on your dog and not on the other one.

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَصَابَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَقَتَلَ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ وَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْكَلْبِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتُ مَعَ كَلْبِي كَلْبًا آخَرَ فَلاَ أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَخَذَهُ قَالَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ

Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said to me: When you let off your dog, recite the name of Allah, and if it catches (game for you) and you find it alive, then slaughter it; if you find it killed and that (your dog) has eaten nothing out of that, (even then) you may eat it; but if you find along with your dog another dog, and (the game an) dead, then don't eat, for you do not know which of the two has killed it. And if you shoot your arrow, recite the name of Allah, but if it (game) goes out of your sight for a day and you do not find on that but the mark of your arrow, then eat that it you so like, but if you find it drowned in water, then don't eat that.

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَأَدْرَكْتَهُ حَيًّا فَاذْبَحْهُ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ فَكُلْهُ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَ مَعَ كَلْبِكَ كَلْبًا غَيْرَهُ وَقَدْ قَتَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا قَتَلَهُ وَإِنْ رَمَيْتَ سَهْمَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ غَابَ عَنْكَ يَوْمًا فَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ إِلاَّ أَثَرَ سَهْمِكَ فَكُلْ إِنْ شِئْتَ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ غَرِيقًا فِي الْمَاءِ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ

I asked the Messenger of Allah. I said: We hunt with these dogs. He replied: When you set off your dog and mention Allah's name over it, eat what it catches for you, even if it kills it, except that the dog has eaten (any of it); if the dog has eaten (any of it), do not eat, for Im afraid it has caught it only for itself.

I asked Prophet ﷺ about featherless arrow. He said: If it strikes with its end, eat, and if it strikes with the middle part of it, do not eat, for it died by a violent blow. I said: I set off my dog? He replies: If you mention Allah's name, eat, otherwise do not eat. If it eats any of it, do not eat, for it caught for itself. He asked: I set off my dog, and I find with it another dog ? He replied: Do not eat, because you mentioned Allah's name on your dog.

عَدِيُّ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَصَابَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي قَالَ إِذَا سَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ وَإِلاَّ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ وَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ لِنَفْسِهِ فَقَالَ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي فَأَجِدُ عَلَيْهِ كَلْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ لاَ تَأْكُلْ لأَنَّكَ إِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ

"I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the game caught by a trained dog. He said: 'If you mention the Name of Allah when you send your trained dog, then eat from what it catches for you. But if it eats from it, then do not eat it, for he only caught it for himself.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about when our dogs get mixed with other dogs.' He said: 'You only mentioned the Name of Allah over your dog, you did not mention it over the others.'" Sufyan said: "He disliked for him to eat it."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْكَلْبِ الْمُعَلَّمِ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ مَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ خَالَطَتْ كِلاَبَنَا كِلاَبٌ أُخَرُ قَالَ إِنَّمَا ذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تَذْكُرْ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ أَكْرَهُ لَهُ أَكْلَهُ

"I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'I release my dog. He said: 'If you release your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat. But it he has eaten some of it, the do not eats, for the caught it for himself. If you release your dog then you find another dog with it, then do not eat, for you said the name of Allah over your dog, and not over any other.""

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَوَجَدْتَ مَعَهُ غَيْرَهُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ إِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ

“I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: ‘We are people who hunt with these dogs.’ He said: ‘If you send out your trained dogs and mention the Name of Allah over them, then eat whatever they catch even if they kill it, unless the dog has eaten any of it. If the dog has eaten any of it then do not eat it, for I fear that it will have caught it for itself. And if another dog joins it, then do not eat it.’”

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَصِيدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلاَبِ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلاَبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا فَكُلْ مَا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ الْكَلْبُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كِلاَبٌ أُخَرُ فَلاَ تَأْكُلْ قَالَ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ سَمِعْتُهُ يَعْنِي عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْمُنْذِرِ يَقُولُ حَجَجْتُ ثَمَانِيَةً وَخَمْسِينَ حِجَّةً أَكْثَرُهَا رَاجِلٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you send the dog and it eats from the prey, then do not eat from it, for it only held onto itself. But if you send it and it kills without eating, then eat from it, for it only held onto its owner."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ الْكَلْبَ فَأَكَلَ مِنَ الصَّيْدِ فَلا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَهُ فَقَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my land is a hunting land." He said, "When you send your dog and you mention the name of Allah, whatever it catches will be for you. But if it kills, and you eat from it, then do not let your dog eat from it, for it has only caught for itself. And if you send your dog and it joins with other dogs and catches the prey without mentioning the name of Allah, then do not eat from it, for you do not know which one of them killed it."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَرْضِي أَرْضُ صَيْدٍ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ مَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ كَلْبُكَ وَإِنْ قَتَلَ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَخَالَطَتْهُ أَكْلُبٌ لَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَيْهَا فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَهُ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: We are a people who hunt with these (trained) dogs, then (what should we do)? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: When you set of your trained dogs having recited the name of Allah, then eat what these (hounds) have caught for you, even if it (the game) is killed, provided (the hunting dog) has not eaten (any part of the game). سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَتَصَيَّدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلَابِ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلَابَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ فَكُلْ مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ وَإِنْ قَتَلَتْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كِلَابٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا فَلَاتَأْكُلْ

[AI] I said, "O Prophet of Allah, we are hunters." He replied, "When one of you throws his arrow, let him mention the name of Allah the Exalted. If he kills the prey, then let him eat it. But if he finds it dead in water, then he should not eat it, for he does not know whether the water caused its death. However, if he finds his arrow in the prey after a day or two and does not find any trace other than his arrow, then if he wishes, let him eat it." He said, "And when his dog is sent after it, let him mention the name of Allah. If he catches it and kills it, then let him eat it. But if the dog eats from it, then he should not eat it, for the dog has only held it for himself and did not catch it for him. And if his dog joins other dogs that he did not mention the name of Allah upon, then he should not eat it, for he does not know which one of them killed it."

قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّا أَهْلُ صَيْدٍ فَقَالَ إِذَا رَمَى أَحَدُكُمْ بِسَهْمِهِ فَلْيَذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ تَعَالَى فَإِنْ قَتَلَ فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَإِنْ وَقَعَ فِي مَاءٍ فَوَجَدَهُ مَيْتًا فَلَا يَأْكُلْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي لَعَلَّ الْمَاءَ قَتَلَهُ فَإِنْ وَجَدَ سَهْمَهُ فِي صَيْدٍ بَعْدَ يَوْمٍ أَوْ اثْنَيْنِ وَلَمْ يَجِدْ فِيهِ أَثَرًا غَيْرَ سَهْمِهِ فَإِنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَأْكُلْهُ قَالَ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِ كَلْبَهُ فَلْيَذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ ﷻ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَهُ فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا يَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَلَمْ يُمْسِكْ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ أَرْسَلَ كَلْبَهُ فَخَالَطَ كِلَابًا لَمْ يَذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا فَلَا يَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَهُ

If it strikes (the game) with its point, then eat, but if it strikes flatly and it dies, that is Waqidh (beaten into death), do not eat that. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about (hunting with the help of) dogs, whereupon he said. When you send your dog (for hunting) reciting the name of Allah, then eat (the game), but if some part of it is eaten (by the dogs, then do not eat that, for it (your dog) has caught that (the-game) for itself. I (again) said: If I find along with my dog another dog, and do not know which of (the dogs) has caught (the game). then (what should I do)? Thereupon he ('Messenger of Allah) said: Then don't eat that, for you recited the name of Allah on your dog and not on the other one. (Using translation from Muslim 1929c)

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَصَابَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَقَتَلَ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي؟ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَأَخَذَ فَكُلْ فَإِذَا أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي فَأَجِدُ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا آخَرَ لَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَخَذَ؟ قَالَ لَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ

[AI] Adi bin Hatim asked the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I shoot my arrow and it strikes the game, but I am unable to reach it until a day or two later." The Prophet said, "If you have the ability to reach it and there is no mark or injury on it except for your arrow, then it is permissible for you to eat it. But if you find a mark on it other than your arrow, then do not eat it. And if you send your dog and mention the name of Allah upon it, and you find it before it kills the game, then slaughter it. But if you find it after it has killed the game and it has not eaten from it, then you may eat it. And if you find it after it has eaten from it, then do not eat it, for it has held it for itself." Adi said, "I send my dogs and mention the name of Allah, and they mix with other dogs, so they take the game and kill it." The Prophet said, "Do not eat it, for you do not know whether it was killed by your dogs or by other dogs."

أَنَّ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرْمِي بِسَهْمِي فَأُصِيبُ فَلَا أَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا بَعْدَ يَوْمٍ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ قَالَ «إِنْ قَدَرْتَ عَلَيْهِ وَلَيْسَ بِهِ أَثَرٌ وَلَا خَدْشٌ إِلَّا رَمْيَتُكَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَ بِهِ أَثَرًا غَيْرَ رَمْيَتِكَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ فَأَدْرَكْتَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْتُلَهُ فَذَكِّهِ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَهُ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَكُلْهُ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ وَقَدْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ» قَالَ عَدِيٌّ فَإِنِّي أُرْسِلُ كِلَابِي وَأَذْكُرُ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَتَخْتَلِطُ بِكِلَابِ غَيْرِي فَيَأْخُذْنَ الصَّيْدَ فَيَقْتُلْنَهُ قَالَ «فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي كِلَابُكَ قَتَلَتْهُ أَمْ كِلَابُ غَيْرِكَ»

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: We are a people who hunt with these (trained) dogs, then (what should we do)? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: When you set of your trained dogs having recited the name of Allah, then eat what these (hounds) have caught for you, even if it (the game) is killed, provided (the hunting dog) has not eaten (any part of the game). If it has eaten (the game), then you don't eat it as I fear that it might have caught for its own self. And do not eat it if other dogs have joined your trained dogs. (Using translation from Muslim 1929b)

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ نَصِيدُ بِهَذِهِ الْكِلَابِ؟ قَالَ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كِلَابَكَ المُكَلَّبَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا فَكُلْ مَا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَإِنْ خَالَطَهَا كِلَابٌ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا فَلَا تَأْكُلْ»

[AI] He asked the Prophet ﷺ about hunting. He said, "When you send your dog, say Bismillah (in the name of Allah). If you catch it [the prey] and it has been killed but not eaten, then eat from it. For verily, it has restrained for you. And if you catch it [the prey] and it has been killed and eaten from, then do not eat from it, for verily it has restrained for itself. And if your dog has mingled with another dog and killed [the prey] but not eaten from it, then do not eat from it. For verily, you have only named [the name of Allah] upon your dog and not upon the other [dog]. And if you throw your arrow and mention the name of Allah, and then you find it has fallen into water and died, do not eat it. For verily, you do not know whether the water killed it or your arrow. And if you find it after a night or two and do not see any other trace in it except your arrow, then if you wish, you may eat it.

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّيْدِ؟ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَسَمِّ اللهَ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَ كَلْبُكَ كَلْبًا غَيْرَهُ فَقَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّكَ إِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ وَإِذَا رَمَيْتَ بِسَهْمِكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ قَدْ وَقَعَ فِي مَاءٍ فَمَاتَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ؛ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي الْمَاءُ قَتَلَهُ أَوْ سَهْمُكَ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ بَعْدَ لَيْلَةٍٍ أَوْ لَيْلَتَيْنِ وَلَمْ تَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرًا غَيْرَ سَهْمِكَ فَشِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ فَكُلْ

[AI] To the messenger of Allah, when you send your dog, remember the name of Allah. If it catches prey for you and you find it alive, then slaughter it. But if you find it dead, already killed by something else, then you may eat it. And if you find other dogs with it, do not eat, for you do not know which one killed it. And if you throw your arrows and remember the name of Allah upon them, and it catches prey for you and you find it alive, then you may eat it. But if it catches prey and disappears from your sight for a day, and you find only the trace of your arrow, then you may eat it if you wish. But if you find it drowning in water, then do not eat it.

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَأَدْرَكْتَهُ حَيًّا فَاذْبَحْهُ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَ مَعَهُ كِلَابًا غَيْرَهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَهُ وَإِنْ رَمَيْتَ بِسَهْمِكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ فَإِنْ أمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ قَدْ غَابَ عَنْكَ يَوْمًا فَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ إِلَّا أَثَرَ سَهْمِكَ فَكُلْ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ غَرِيقًا فِي مَاءٍ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my land is hunting land." He said, "If you send your trained dog and you name it, whatever it catches is for you to eat. But if it kills, then it is for the dog to eat and you should not eat from it, for it has caught it for itself. But if you send your dog and you do not name it, and it mingles with other dogs that are not named, then do not eat from it, for you do not know which one of them killed it." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I throw my arrow and the game goes away from me tonight?" He said, "If you find your arrow on it and do not find another arrow on it, then eat it."

قُلْتُ أَيْ رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَرْضِي أَرْضُ صَيْدٍ قَالَ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ مَا أمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ الْكَلْبُ وَإِنْ قَتَلَ فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ سَمَّيْتَ فَخَالَطَتْهُ أَكْلُبٌ لَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَيْهَا فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا قَتَلَهُ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرْمِي الصَّيْدَ فَيَغِيبُ عَنِّي اللَّيْلَةَ قَالَ «فَإِذَا وَجَدْتَ فِيهِ سَهْمَكَ وَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ غَيْرَهُ فَكُلْهُ»

he asked the Messenger of Allah about hunting. He said: "When you release your dog, mention the name of Allah over him, and if you catch up with him and he has not killed (the game), then slaughter it and mention the name of Allah over it. If you catch up with him and he has killed (the game) but has not eaten any of it, then eat, for he caught it for you. If you find that the has eaten some of it, then do not eat any of it for he caught it for himself. If there are other dogs with your dog and they have killed (the game) but have not eaten any of it, then do not eat any of it, because you do not know which of them killed it." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4263)

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّيْدِ فَقَالَ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ لَمْ يَقْتُلْ فَاذْبَحْ وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ فَقَدْ أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ قَدْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَطْعَمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ خَالَطَ كَلْبُكَ كِلَابًا فَقَتَلْنَ فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْنَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيَّهَا قَتَلَ»

"I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'I release my dog. He said: 'If you release your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat. But it he has eaten some of it, the do not eats, for the caught it for himself. If you release your dog then you find another dog with it, then do not eat, for you said the name of Allah over your dog, and not over any other."" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4272)

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي قَالَ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَوَجَدْتَ مَعَهُ غَيْرَهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ إِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ»

[AI] He asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) about hunting, so he said: "If you send your dog, remember the name of Allah. If you reach it and it does not kill, then slaughter it and mention the name of Allah. If you reach it and it has already killed but has not eaten, then eat it, for it has caught it for you. If you find it has already eaten from it, then do not eat anything from it, for it has taken it for itself." The two narrators mentioned this Hadith in Sahih from the Hadith of Zakariya and Aasim, and Muslim narrated it from Yahya bin Ayyub from Ibn Al-Mubarak.

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّيْدِ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ وَلَمْ يَقْتُلْ فَاذْبَحْ وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَكُلْ فَقَدْ أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ قَدْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَطْعَمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ زَكَرِيَّا وَعَاصِمٍ وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ. "We hunt with the help of these hounds." He said, "If you let loose your trained hounds after a game, and mention the name of Allah, then you can eat what the hounds catch for you, even if they killed the game. But you should not eat of it if the hound has eaten of it, for then it is likely that the hound has caught the game for itself. And if other hounds join your hound in hunting the game, then do not eat of it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5483)

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّيْدِ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ لَمْ يَقْتُلْ فَاذْبَحْ وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قَتَلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ فَقَدْ أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ قَدْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَطْعَمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَإِنْ خَالَطَ كَلْبَكَ كِلَابٌ فَقَتَلْنَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْنَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَ وَإِذَا رَمَيْتَ سَهْمَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you let loose your hound after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending it, and the hound catches the game and kills it, then you can eat of it. But if the hound eats of it, then you should not eat thereof, for the hound has caught it for itself. And if along with your hound, joined other hounds, and Allah's Name was not mentioned at the time of their sending, and they catch an animal and kill it, you should not eat of it, for you will not know which of them has killed it. And if you have thrown an arrow at the game and then find it (dead) two or three days later and, it bears no mark other than the wound inflicted by your arrow, then you can eat of it. But if the game is found (dead) in water, then do not eat of it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5484)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَسَمَّيْتَ فَأَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَقَتَلَ فَكُلْ فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَإِذَا خَالَطَ كِلَابًا لَمْ تَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا فَأَمْسَكْنَ وَقَتَلْنَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَ وَإِنْ رَمَيْتَ الصَّيْدَ فَوَجَدْتَهُ بَعْدَ يَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ لَيْسَ بِهِ إِلَّا أَثَرُ سَهْمِكَ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ فَكُلْ وَإِنْ وَقَعَ فِي الْمَاءِ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ

[AI] He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting, so he mentioned the Hadith and said, "When you throw your arrow, mention the name of Allah, and if you find it (the hunted animal), eat it, except if you find it in water, for you do not know if the water killed it or if your arrow did. If you find it after a night or two and do not find any other signs except the mark of your arrow, then if you wish, you may eat from it, so eat."

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّيْدِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَمَيْتَ بِسَهْمِكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ فَكُلْ إِلَّا أَنْ تَجِدَهُ قَدْ وَقَعَ فِي مَاءٍ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي الْمَاءُ قَتَلَهُ أَوْ سَهْمُكَ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ بَعْدَ لَيْلَةٍ أَوْ لَيْلَتَيْنِ فَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ أَثَرًا غَيْرَ أَثَرِ سَهْمِكَ فَشِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ فَكُلْ

Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said to me: When you let off your dog, recite the name of Allah, and if it catches (game for you) and you find it alive, then slaughter it; if you find it killed and that (your dog) has eaten nothing out of that, (even then) you may eat it; but if you find along with your dog another dog, and (the game an) dead, then don't eat, for you do not know which of the two has killed it. And if you shoot your arrow, recite the name of Allah, but if it (game) goes out of your sight for a day and you do not find on that but the mark of your arrow, then eat that it you so like, but if you find it drowned in water, then don't eat that. قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنْ أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ فَأَدْرَكْتَهُ حَيًّا فَاذْبَحْهُ وَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهُ قَدْ قُتِلَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ فَكُلْهُ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَ مَعَ كَلْبِكَ كَلْبًا غَيْرَهُ وَقَدْ قُتِلَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا قَتَلَهُ وَإِنْ رَمَيْتَ سَهْمَكَ فَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ وَإِنْ غَابَ عَنْكَ يَوْمًا فَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ إِلَّا أَثَرَ سَهْمِكَ فَكُلْ إِنْ شِئْتَ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَهُ غَرِيقًا فِي الْمَاءِ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ

I asked the Prophet (about the hunting dogs) and he replied, "If you let loose (with Allah's name) your tamed dog after a game and it hunts it, you may eat it, but if the dog eats of (that game) then do not eat it because the dog has hunted it for itself." I further said, "Sometimes I send my dog for hunting and find another dog with it. He said, "Do not eat the game for you have mentioned Allah's name only on sending your dog and not the other dog." (Using translation from Bukhārī 175)

" إذَا أرسلتَ كلبَك المعلَّم فقتل فكُلْ، وإذَا أكلَ فلا تأكلْ، فإنّما أمسكَهُ على نفسهِ- قيلَ: أُرسلُ كلبى فأجد معه كلبًا آخرَ؟ قال: فلا تأكلْ فإنّما سَمَّيتَ على كلبك ولم تُسمِّ على كلبٍ آخرَ".

I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ. "We hunt with the help of these hounds." He said, "If you let loose your trained hounds after a game, and mention the name of Allah, then you can eat what the hounds catch for you, even if they killed the game. But you should not eat of it if the hound has eaten of it, for then it is likely that the hound has caught the game for itself. And if other hounds join your hound in hunting the game, then do not eat of it." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5483)

" إذا أرسلت كلابك المعلمةَ وذكرت اسم الله فكل مما أمسكن عليك وإن قَتلن، إلا أن يأكلَ الكلبُ -فإني أخافُ أن يكون إنما أمسكه على نفسه، وإن خالطها كلابٌ من غيرها فلا تأكل؛ فإنك لا تدرى أيُّها قتل- وإن رميت الصيد فوجدتَه بعد يومٍ أو يومين ليس به إلا أثرُ سهمك فكُل، وإن وقع في الماءِ فلا تأكلْ".

Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said to me: When you let off your dog, recite the name of Allah, and if it catches (game for you) and you find it alive, then slaughter it; if you find it killed and that (your dog) has eaten nothing out of that, (even then) you may eat it; but if you find along with your dog another dog, and (the game an) dead, then don't eat, for you do not know which of the two has killed it. " إذا أرْسلتَ كلبكَ فاذكرْ اسم الله، فإن أمسك عليك فأدركتَه حيا فاذبَحهْ -فإنْ أدركتَه قد قَتَل ولم يأكلْ منه فكله- وإنْ وجدتَ مع كلبك كلبًا غيرهَ قد قَتَل فلا تأكلْ، فإنّك لا تدرى أيهُما قَتَله؟ وإنْ رميت بسهمك فاذكرْ اسم الله، فإن غابَ عنك يومًا فلم تجدْ فيه إلا أثرَ سهمك فكل إن شئتَ، وإن وجدته غريقًا في الماءِ فلا تأكلْ فإنك لا تدرى: الماءُ قتله أو سهمك؟
