١۔٥٣ بَابُ الْوُضُوءِ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ

darimi:755al-Ḥasan b. Aḥmad al-Ḥarrānī > Muḥammad b. Salamah > Muḥammad b. Isḥāq > Yazīd b. Abū Ḥabīb > al-Julāḥ > ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd al-Makhzūmī > al-Mughīrah b. Abū Burdah from his father > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] A group of men from the Banu Mudlij came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are the people of this sea who hunt with the spears. We spend the night and two nights, three nights, and four nights on this sea, and we carry fresh water with us to drink. If we perform ablution with it, we fear for ourselves. If we prioritize ourselves and perform ablution from the sea, we find something in ourselves as a result of that, and we fear that it is not pure." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perform ablution from it, for its water is pure, its dead creatures are permissible."

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Messenger of Allah, we travel on the sea and take a small quantity of water with us. If we use this for ablution, we would suffer from thirst. Can we perform ablution with sea water? The Messenger ﷺ replied: Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 83)
