Regarding Al-Harauriyya: The Prophet ﷺ said, "They will go out of Islam as an arrow darts out of the game's body.'

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

I asked Sahl bin Hunaif, "Did you hear the Prophet ﷺ saying anything about Al-Khawarij?" He said, "I heard him saying while pointing his hand towards Iraq. "There will appear in it (i.e, Iraq) some people who will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats, and they will go out from (leave) Islam as an arrow darts through the game's body.' "

سَمِعْتَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي الْخَوَارِجِ شَيْئًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ وَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ قِبَلَ الْعِرَاقِ يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ making a mention of the Khawarij? He said: I heard him say (and he pointed with his hand towards the east) that these would be a people who would recite the Qur'an with their tongues and it would not go beyond their collar bones. They would pass clean through their religion just as the arrow passes through the prey.

سَمِعْتَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَذْكُرُ الْخَوَارِجَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ لاَ يَعْدُو تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

"In the end of time there will come a people young in years, foolish in minds, reciting the Qur'an which will not go beyond their throats, uttering sayings from the best of creatures, going through the religion as an arrow goes through the target."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَانِ سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلاَمِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مِنْ قَوْلِ خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: 'At the end of time there will appear young people with foolish minds. Their faith will not pass through their throats, and they will go out of Islam as an arrow goes through the target. If you meet them, then kill them, for killing them will bring reward to the one who killed them on the Day of Resurrection.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَانِ سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلاَمِ يَقُولُونَ مِنْ خَيْرِ قَوْلِ الْبَرِيَّةِ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ إِيمَانُهُمْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'At the end of time there will appear a people with new teeth (i.e., young in age), with foolish minds. They will speak the best words ever uttered by mankind and they will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go any deeper than their collarbones. They will pass through Islam like an arrow passes through its target. Whoever meets them, let him kill them, for killing them will bring a reward from Allah for those who kill them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَانِ سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلاَمِ يَقُولُونَ مِنْ خَيْرِ قَوْلِ النَّاسِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ فَمَنْ لَقِيَهُمْ فَلْيَقْتُلْهُمْ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'There are those who recite the Qur'an but it does not go any deeper than their collarbones. They will pass through Islam like an arrow passing through its target.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

“Some people will pass out of Islam as the arrow passes out of the prey. They will recite the Qurʿan but it will go no further than their collar bones. Glad tidings to the one who kills them and they kill him. Their sign will be a man with a deformed arm.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ قَوْمًا يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ طُوبَى لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ وَقَتَلُوهُ عَلامَتُهُمْ رَجُلٌ مُخْدَجُ الْيَدِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿAt the end of time, there will be people who recite Qurʿan but it will go no further than their collarbones; they will pass out of Islam as the arrow passes out of the prey. Fighting them is a duty upon every Muslim.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَكُونُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ قِتَالُهُمْ حَقٌّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'There are those who recite the Qur'an but it does not go any deeper than their collarbones. They will pass through Islam like an arrow passing through its target.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 171)

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ أَقْوَامٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "There will come a people from the east who recite the Quran, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through its target and then continues on its way. They will not return to it, just as the arrow does not return to where it was shot from. It was asked, 'What will be their sign?' He said, 'Their sign will be Shaving and Wearing of Sufrah.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَخْرُجُ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَالدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ حَتَّى يَعُودَ السَّهْمُ عَلَى فُوقِهِ قِيلَ مَا سِيمَاهُمْ؟ قَالَ سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحْلِيقُ وَالتَّسْبِيتُ

[AI] Uqbah bin Amer, may Allah and His Messenger bless him, said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'There will come a time when men will recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion just as the arrow passes through the prey.'"

عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَيَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ رِجَالٌ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ قَوْمًا يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah saying, "There will emerge from this ummah people who will slip out of the religion as an arrow slips out of its target."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ يَقُولُ «يَخْرُجُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ نَاسٌ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say about the Khawarij, "Shall I not inform you of what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I will not add anything to it? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say and he struck his hand, 'They will emerge from here,' and he pointed with his hand. 'A group of people who recite the Quran but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will exit the religion as an arrow passes through its target.'"

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي الْحَرُورِيَّةِ قَالَ أُخْبِرُكَ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَا أَزِيدُكَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ «يَخْرُجُ مِنْ هَهُنَا وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»

Regarding Al-Harauriyya: The Prophet ﷺ said, "They will go out of Islam as an arrow darts out of the game's body.' (Using translation from Bukhārī 6932)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»

[AI] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There will be men who will recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through its target.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ رِجَالٌ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»

"I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: 'At the end of time there will appear young people with foolish minds. Their faith will not pass through their throats, and they will go out of Islam as an arrow goes through the target. سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ أَحْدَاثُ الْأَسْنَانِ سُفَهَاءُ الْأَحْلَامِ يَقُولُونَ مِنْ خَيْرِ قَوْلِ الْبَرِيَّةِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ إِيمَانُهُمْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A group of people will emerge in the end times who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its target. Their fighting is an obligation upon every Muslim." Yusuf ibn Abi Ishaq disagreed with him and caused a conflict between Abi Ishaq and Suwaid ibn Ghafalah Abdulrahman ibn Tharwan.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ قِتَالُهُمْ حَقٌّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ» خَالَفَهُ يُوسُفُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ فَأَدْخَلَ بَيْنَ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ وَبَيْنَ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ ثَرْوَانَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿAt the end of time, there will be people who recite Qurʿan but it will go no further than their collarbones; they will pass out of Islam as the arrow passes out of the prey. Fighting them is a duty upon every Muslim.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 1346)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «يَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ قِتَالُهُمْ حَقٌّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ»

"إِنَّ أَقْوامًا يتعمَّقُونَ فِى الدِّين يمرُقونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يمرُقُ السهمُ من الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"إِنَّ نَاسًا من أُمُّتِى سيماهم التحليقُ يَقْرءُونَ القُرآنَ، لا يجاوزُ حُلُوقَهُمْ، يَمْرقُونَ من الدين كما يمرق السَّهْمُ من الرَّمِيَّةِ، هم شرُّ الخلقِ والخليقة"

"سَيَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَان، سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلَام، يَقُولُونَ مِنْ خَيْرِ قَوْلِ الْبَرِيَّةِ، يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرَآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّين كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ؛ فَإِنَّ فِي قَتْلِهِمْ أَجْرًا لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ عِنْدَ الله يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ".

"سَيَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يجاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ، مِنَ الدِّين كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّة".

"سَيَقْرَأُ الْقُرآنَ رجَالٌ لاَ يُجاوِزُ حَناجرَهُمْ، يمُرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"لَيَقْرَأنَّ القُرآنَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلام كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِن الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"لَيَقْرَأن القُرآنَ رِجَالٌ لَا يُجَاوزُ تَرَاقِيَهُم، يَمْرُقُونَ مِن الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنْ الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"يَجئُ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِن الرَّمِيَّةِ عَلَى فوقِهِ".

"يَجئُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ بَعْدِى مِنْ أُمتِّى يَقْرَأُونَ الْقْرآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَراقيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمَيَّةِ، ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا، هُمْ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخِلِيقَةِ".

"يَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْمَشْرِق أَقْوَامٌ مُحَلَّقَةٌ رُءُوسُهُمْ يَقرَأُون الْقُرآنَ بأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ لَا يَعْدُو تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِن الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"يَخْرُجُ نَاسٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِن الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، ثُمَّ لا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ حَتَّى يَعُودَ السَّهْمُ إِلَى فَوقِهِ، سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحلِيقُ".

"يَخْرجٌ فِى آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَانِ، سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلَامِ، يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرآنَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ لَا يُجَاوِز تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَقُولُونَ مِنْ قَوْل خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمَّيةِ، فَمَنْ لَقِيهُمْ فَليَقْتُلْهُمْ؛ فَإِنَّ قَتَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيم عِنْدَ اللَّه لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ".

"يَخْرُجُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ قَومٌ يَقْرَأُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ".

"يَخْرجٌ قَوْم فِى آخِرِ الزَّمانِ أَحْدَاثُ الأَسْنَانِ، سُفَهَاءُ الأَحْلَامِ، يَقُولُونَ مِنْ قَوْل خَيرِ البَريَّةِ، لَا يُجَاوِزُ إِيمَانُهُمْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُوَنَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرقُ السَّهمُ مِنَ الرَّميَّةِ، فَإِذَا لقَيْتُمُوهُمْ فاقْتُلُوهُمْ، فاقْتُلُوهم؛ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ. لِمنْ قَتَلَهُم يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ".

"يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَجِئَ قَوْم يَقْرأُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، طُوبَى لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ، وطُوبَى لِمَنْ قَتَلُوهُ، أَمَا إِنَّهُمْ سَيَخْرجُونَ بِأَرْض (قَوْمِكَ) (*) يَا تِهَامِىُّ يُقَاتِلُونَ بَيْنَ الأَنْهَارِ، قَالَ: مَا بِهَا أَنْهَارٌ، قَالَ: إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ".

"عَنْ أنسٍ قَالَ: سَمعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ: سَيَقْرَأ القُرآنَ رِجَالٌ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّميَّةِ".

"عَنْ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ نَاسًا مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ يَقْرأونَ الْقُرَآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَراقيهُمْ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، ثُمَّ لَا يُعودُونَ فِيهِ حَتَّى يَعُودَ عَلَى فُوقِهِ".

"عَنَ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَكُونُ في آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْم أَحْداث الأَسْنَانِ سفهاء الأحْلَام، يَقُولُونَ مِنْ خَيْرِ قَوْل الْبَرِية، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّميَّةِ، يَقْتُلُهُمْ أَدْنَى الطَّائِفَتَيْن إِلى الله -تَعَالَى-".
