[Machine] Abu Musa said: "Indeed, I bathe in the dark room, and I do not cover my body out of modesty from my Lord."
قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ إِنِّي لَأَغْتَسِلُ فِي الْبَيْتِ الْمُظْلِمِ فَمَا أُقِيمُ صُلْبِي آخِذًا ثَوْبِي حَيَاءً مِنْ رَبِّي ﷻ
[Machine] "To deceive my family and they will deceive me, and to betray them and they will betray me."
أَنْ أَكْذِبَ أَهْلِي فَيَكْذِبُونِي وَأَخُونَهُمْ فَيَخُونُونِي
[Machine] "He said, 'Verily, this dirham and dinar have destroyed those who came before you, and indeed, I see them only as destroyers of you.'"
أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا الدِّرْهَمَ وَالدِّينَارَ أَهْلَكَا مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ وَإِنِّي مَا أَرَاهُمَا إِلَّا مُهْلِكَيْكُمْ
[Machine] "O people, weep. And if you cannot weep, show the signs of weeping. Indeed, the people of Hellfire will weep tears until they run dry, and then they will weep blood until ships could sail in it."
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ابْكُوا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَبْكُوا فَتَبَاكَوْا فَإِنَّ أَهْلَ النَّارِ يَبْكُونَ الدُّمُوعَ حَتَّى تَنْقَطِعَ ثُمَّ يَبْكُونَ الدِّمَاءَ حَتَّى لَوْ أُرْسِلَتْ فِيهَا السُّفُنُ لَجَرَتْ
[Machine] Abu Musa said, "The example of this hypocrite is like a feather in the wind, turning it back and forth from its back to its stomach."
قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى مَثَلُ هَذَا الْقَلِيبِ مَثَلُ رِيشَةٍ بِفَلَاةٍ تُقَلِّبُهَا الرِّيَاحُ ظَهْرَهَا لِبَطْنِهَا
لَوْ مَاتَ لَمْ أُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ
[Machine] "By Allah, a unit of prayer that I perform in the depths of the night, in secret, is more beloved to me than praying the entire night and then making it known to people. When the person heard this, they became upset and said, 'O companions of the Messenger of Allah, Allah knows best about you. If we ask something of you, you become harsh with us, but if we refuse you something, you get angry with us?' At that moment, Tameem approached the man and said, 'What do you think? If you were a strong believer and I were a weak believer, would you use your strength to overpower me? And what if I were a strong believer and you were a weak believer, would I use my strength to overpower you? But instead, take from yourself for your religion, and from your religion for yourself, until you find a path of worship that pleases you.'"
وَاللَّهِ لَرَكْعَةٌ أُصَلِّيهَا فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فِي السِّرِّ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ ثُمَّ أَقُصَّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَغَضِبَ السَّائِلُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ يَا أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِنْ سَأَلْنَاكُمْ عَنَّفْتُمُونَا وَإِنْ نَسْأَلْكُمْ جَفَوْتُمُونَا؟ فَأَقْبَلَ تَمِيمٌ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُؤْمِنًا قَوِيًّا وَأَنَا مُؤْمِنٌ ضَعِيفٌ أَكُنْتَ سَاطِيًا عَلَيَّ بِقُوَّتِكَ فَتُقَطِّعَنِي؟ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُؤْمِنًا ضَعِيفًا وَأَنَا مُؤْمِنٌ قَوِيٌّ كُنْتُ سَاطِيًا عَلَيْكَ بِقُوَّتِي فَأُقَطِّعَكَ؟ وَلَكِنْ خُذْ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ لِدِينِكَ وَمِنْ دِينِكَ لِنَفْسِكَ حَتَّى تَسْتَقِيمَ لَكَ عَلَى عِبَادَةٍ تَرْضَاهَا
[Machine] From one of the companions of the Prophet, it has reached me that Tameem Al-Dari recited the Quran standing, recited the Quran bowing, and recited the Quran in prostration. He also performed Hajj with a shaved head.
عَنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنَ الْعِبَادَةِ مَا بَلَغَنِي عَنْ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ قَائِمًا وَقَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ رَاكِعًا وَقَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ سَاجِدًا وَحَجَّ خَبَبًا
[Machine] Tamim bought a house for 1000, where he used to pray.
اشْتَرَى تَمِيمٌ الدَّارِيُّ حُلَّةً بِأَلْفٍ كَانَ يُصَلِّي فِيهَا
[Machine] We were a group of the Prophet's Companions' children. We said, "Our fathers preceded us in migration and in the company of the Prophet ﷺ, so let us strive in worship, perhaps we can attain their virtues from them?" or as 'Abdullah ibn Zubayr said, and Muhammad ibn Abi Hudhaifah, and Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and Muhammad ibn Talhah, and Muhammad ibn abdul Rahman ibn al-Aswad ibn 'Abd Yaghoth said, "So we exerted ourselves in worship day and night, and we caught up with Tamim ad-Dari, a righteous elderly man. We neither stood nor sat during the lengthy prayers for him.
كُنَّا فِئَةً مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا إِنَّ آبَاءَنَا قَدْ سَبَقُونَا بِالْهِجْرَةِ وَصُحْبَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَهَلُمُّوا نَجْتَهِدْ فِي الْعِبَادَةِ لَعَلَّنَا نُدْرِكُ فَضَائِلَهُمْ مِنْهُمْ أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ [164] عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ قَالَ فَاجْتَهَدْنَا فِي الْعِبَادَةِ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَأَدْرَكْنَا تَمِيمًا الدَّارِيَّ شَيْخًا فَمَا قُمْنَا لَهُ وَلَا قَعَدْنَا فِي طُولِ الصَّلَاةِ
[Machine] Abu Waqid Al-Laithi said: "We have followed the deeds, and we have found nothing more effective in seeking the hereafter than asceticism in this world."
قَالَ أَبُو وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ تَابَعْنَا الْأَعْمَالَ فَلَمْ نَجِدْ شَيْئًا أَبْلَغَ فِي طَلَبِ الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ زَهَادَةٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا
[Machine] I am informed that I am incoming and I was not informed that I am outgoing.
إِنِّي أُنْبِئْتُ أَنِّي وَارِدٌ وَلَمْ أُنَبَّأْ أَنِّي صَادِرٌ
[Machine] Salim, the slave of Abu Hudhayfah, said, "I wish I were in the position of the 'Araaf companions."
قَالَ سَالِمٌ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ أَصْحَابِ الْأَعْرَافِ
[Machine] I saw Ibn Zubayr, may Allah have mercy on him, praying in the stone area, lowering his gaze. Then a stone came in front of him, so he went to get some of his clothing, but it did not come undone.
رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ يُصَلِّي فِي الْحِجْرِ خَافِضًا بَصَرَهُ فَجَاءَهُ حَجَرٌ قُدَّامَهُ فَذَهَبَ بِبَعْضِ ثَوْبِهِ فَمَا انْفَتَلَ
[Machine] That Ibn Zubayr used to prostrate (in prayer) until birds would settle on his back, as if he was a part of the wall.
أَنَّ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ كَانَ يَسْجُدُ حَتَّى تَنْزِلَ الْعَصَافِيرُ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ لَا تَحْسَبُهُ إِلَّا جِذْمَ حَائِطٍ
[Machine] Glory to the One whom thunder praises with His glory, and the angels from fear of Him. Then He says, "Indeed, this is a severe punishment for the people of the earth."
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ إِنَّ هَذَا وَعِيدٌ لِأَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ شَدِيدٌ
[Machine] Indeed, we have been tested with what we have been tested with from your affair. So whatever we have commanded you is obedience to Allah, Exalted is He. For us, there is your listening and obedience in it. And whatever we have commanded you that does not involve obedience to Allah, then there is no obedience to us in it and no favor from us upon you.
إِنَّا قَدِ ابْتُلِينَا بِالَّذِي قَدِ ابْتُلِينَا بِهِ مِنْ أَمْرِكُمْ فَمَا أَمَرْنَاكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرٍ فِيهِ طَاعَةٌ لِلَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ فَلَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ فِيهِ السَّمْعُ وَالطَّاعَةُ وَمَا أَمَرْنَاكُمْ بِهِ مِنْ أَمْرٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ طَاعَةٌ لِلَّهِ ﷻ فَلَا طَاعَةَ لَنَا فِيهِ وَلَا نِعْمَةَ عَيْنٍ
فَلَا إِذًا
[Machine] Abu Talhah continued to observe fasting for forty years after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .
أَنَّ أَبَا [165] طَلْحَةَ سَرَدَ الصَّوْمَ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعِينَ عَامًا
[Machine] That Abu Talhah used to fast a lot during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and he did not break his fast until he met Allah except due to illness or travel.
أَنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ كَانَ يُكْثِرُ الصَّوْمَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَمَا أَفْطَرَ بَعْدَهُ حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ ﷻ إِلَّا مِنْ مَرَضٍ أَوْ فِي سَفَرٍ
لَا أَؤُمُّ رَجُلَيْنِ وَلَا أَتَأَمَّرُ عَلَيْهِمَا
[Machine] I have not seen there to be a time for prayer without me eagerly longing for it, and never has the time for prayer come without me being prepared for it.
مَا جَاءَ وَقْتُ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَّا وَأَنَا إِلَيْهَا بِالْأَشْوَاقِ وَمَا دَخَلَ وَقْتُ صَلَاةٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا وَأَنَا لَهَا مُسْتَعِدٌّ
أَنْ تَتْرُكَهُ ثُمَّ لَا تَعُودَ إِلَيْهِ
[Machine] I was a neighbor of Khubbab and one day I went out with him from the mosque while he was holding my hand. He said, "O Hantah, come closer to Allah as much as you can, for you will never get closer to Him with anything more beloved to Him than His speech."
كُنْتُ جَارًا لِخَبَّابٍ فَخَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ يَوْمًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ يَا هَنْتَاهْ تَقَرَّبْ إِلَى اللَّهِ ﷻ بِمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ فَإِنَّكَ لَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ كَلَامِهِ
[Machine] About Abu al-Sawwar, he said that they came to a town in Basra called Jundub, and he said, "I see good guidance and good character, so beware of these desires." Then he said, "The likeness of someone who teaches people but does not act like the likeness of a lantern that provides light to people but burns itself."
عَنْ أَبِي السَّوَّارِ أَنَّهُمْ أَتَوْا جُنْدُبًا فِي قُرَّاءِ أَهْلِ الْبَصْرَةِ فَقَالَ أَرَى هَدْيًا حَسَنًا وَسَمْتًا حَسَنًا فَإِيَّاكُمْ وَهَذِهِ الْأَهْوَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ وَلَا يَعْمَلُ كَمِثَالِ السِّرَاجِ يُضِيءُ لِلنَّاسِ وَيَحْرِقُ نَفْسَهُ
[Machine] He said to his companions, "Recite the Qur'an according to your ability and circumstances. If you face any difficulties, then spend your wealth for the sake of your religion. And if you fear, then sacrifice your life for your religion. For the one whose religion is fought against, he has lost, and for the one whose religion is taken away, he has been deprived. Indeed, there is no poverty after Paradise, and there is no wealth after the Hellfire. The Hellfire does not make its poor ones self-sufficient, nor does it release its captives."
قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ اتْلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى مَا كَانَ بِكُمْ مِنْ جَهْدٍ وَفَاقَةٍ فَإِنْ عَرَضَ يَعْنِي بَلَاءٌ فَابْذُلْ مَالَكَ دُونَ دِينِكَ فَإِنْ تَخَوَّفْتَ فَابْذُلْ دَمَكَ دُونَ دِينِكَ فَإِنَّ الْمَحْرُوبَ مَنْ حُرِبَ دِينُهُ وَإِنَّ الْمَسْلُوبَ مَنْ سُلِبَ دِينَهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَا فَقْرَ بَعْدَ الْجَنَّةِ وَلَا غِنَى بَعْدَ النَّارِ النَّارُ لَا يَسْتَغْنِي فَقِيرُهَا وَلَا يُفَكُّ أَسِيرُهَا
[Machine] I recommend you to have Taqwa (fear of Allah) and the Quran, as it is the light of a dark night and a guide for the day. Act upon it, regardless of the difficulty or poverty. If a trial occurs, prioritize spending your wealth before yourself. If the trial becomes greater, prioritize spending for the sake of your religion before yourself. For the one whose religion is fought against, they are truly deprived, and for the one whose religion is taken away, they are truly robbed. There is no wealth after the Fire and no poverty after Paradise. The inmates of the Fire will never be freed nor will the poor of the Fire be self-sufficient.
أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَالْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّهُ نُورُ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ وَهُدَى النَّهَارِ فَاعْمَلُوا بِهِ عَلَى مَا كَانَ مِنْ جَهْدٍ وَفَاقَةٍ وَإِنْ عَرَضَ بَلَاءٌ فَقَدِّمْ مَالَكَ دُونَ نَفْسِكَ فَإِنْ تَجَاوَزَ الْبَلَاءُ فَقَدِّمْ مَالَكَ وَنَفْسَكَ دُونَ دِينِكَ فَإِنَّ الْمَحْرُوبَ مَنْ حُرِبَ دِينَهُ وَالْمَسْلُوبَ مَنْ سُلِبَ دِينَهُ إِنَّهُ لَا غِنَى بَعْدَ النَّارِ وَلَا فَاقَةَ بَعْدَ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنَّ النَّارَ لَا يُفَكُّ أَسِيرُهَا وَلَا يَسْتَغْنِي فَقِيرُهَا
[Machine] A man said in reference to someone who has passed away, "By Allah, Allah will never forgive so-and-so." So Allah revealed to a prophet in his time to inform him that He has indeed forgiven him and nullified your deeds against him.
قَالَ رَجُلٌ فِيمَنْ مَضَى وَاللَّهِ لَا يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لِفُلَانٍ أَبَدًا فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ ﷻ إِلَى نَبِيٍّ فِي زَمَانِهِ أَنْ أَخْبِرْهُ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُ وَأَحْبَطْتُ عَمَلَكَ عَلَى تَأَلِّيكَ
[Machine] The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were in a military campaign in Sistan, and the fighting and siege of the fortress of Sistan intensified upon them. Among them was a man who said, "The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sit in groups and one group would go out to fight, then another group would come, and then another group would come." So, one of them said to the other, "Do you see the attribute that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned about this man?" He replied, "Yes, this attribute belongs to this man, and this attribute belongs to this man," until they all agreed on this. They said to him, "O man, the fighting and siege of this fortress has intensified upon us, and we see the attribute mentioned by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in you. So, swear by your Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, to grant us victory." He said, "He left their statement and said, 'Indeed, I am a poor and weak person. I do not have the companionship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , but I kept your company hoping for your blessings and to learn from you.'" They insisted on him, and he became distressed by that. They said to him, "We ask you by the right of companionship, for which you swore by your Lord, to grant us victory." He said, "I swear by you, O Lord, when You granted us victory and made me the first martyr." Allah granted them victory, and he became the first martyr.
كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَزَاةً بِسِجِسْتَانَ فَاشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقِتَالُ وَالطَّلَبُ بِقَلْعَةِ سِجِسْتَانَ وَفِيهِمْ رَجُلٌ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَجْلِسُونَ حِلَقًا حِلَقًا فَتَقُومُ طَائِفَةٌ فَيُقَاتِلُونَ ثُمَّ يَجِيئُونَ ثُمَّ تَقُومُ طَائِفَةٌ أُخْرَى فَيُقَاتِلُونَ ثُمَّ يَجِيئُونَ قَالَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ هَلْ تَرَوْنَ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ النَّعْتَ الَّذِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ هَذَا لِهَذَا نَعَمْ وَهَذَا لِهَذَا نَعَمْ حَتَّى اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَقَالُوا أَيُّهَا الرَّجُلُ إِنَّهُ قَدِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْنَا الْقِتَالُ وَالطَّلَبُ لِهَذِهِ الْقَلْعَةِ وَإِنَّا نَرَى فِيكَ النَّعْتَ الَّذِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْسِمْ عَلَى رَبِّكَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَنْ يَفْتَحَ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ فَخَرَجَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ وَقَالَ إِنِّي إِنْسَانٌ مِسْكِينٌ ضَعِيفٌ لَيْسَتْ لِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صُحْبَةٌ إِنَّمَا صَحِبْتُكُمْ أَرْجُو بَرَكَتَكُمْ وَأَتَعَلَّمُ مِنْكُمْ قَالَ فَأَعَادُوا عَلَيْهِ فَجَزِعَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَقَالُوا لَهُ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ الصُّحْبَةِ لَمَا أَقْسَمْتَ عَلَى رَبِّكَ ﷻ أَنْ يَفْتَحَ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَبِّ لَمَا فَتَحْتَ عَلَيْنَا وَجَعَلْتَنِي أَوَّلَ مَقْتُولٍ قَالَ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَقْتُولٍ
[Machine] Indeed, people have lost their greatest religion, which is vigilance.
إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ ضَيَّعُوا أَعْظَمَ دِينِهِمْ الْوَرَعَ
[Machine] Ask your Lord until the darkest part of the night, for if He does not provide ease, then Allah will not provide ease.
سَلُوا رَبَّكُمْ حَتَّى الشِّسْعَ فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ لَمْ يُيَسِّرْهُ وَاللَّهِ لَمْ يُيَسَّرْ
[Machine] "An hour for this world and an hour for the hereafter, and Allah knows best which of them will prevail over us," he said. I said, "You have taken both the world and the hereafter." He said, "A dirham that one of you earns through effort and puts in a beneficial cause is better than spending ten thousand dinars that one of us gives in excess of his wealth."
سَاعَةٌ لِلدُّنْيَا وَسَاعَةٌ لِلْآخِرَةِ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَيَّ ذَلِكَ يَغْلِبُ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ قُلْتُ ذَهَبْتُمْ بِالدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ فَقَالَ لَدِرْهَمٌ يُصِيبُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ جَهْدٍ فَيَضَعُهُ فِي حَقٍّ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ عَشْرَةِ آلَافٍ يُنْفِقُهَا أَحَدُنَا فَيْضًا مِنْ فَيْضٍ
[Machine] Al-Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, used to say, "We have not seen anyone better than him, meaning Uthman ibn Abu Al-Aas."
كَانَ الْحَسَنُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ يَقُولُ مَا [167] رَأَيْنَا أَفْضَلَ مِنْهُ يَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ
[Machine] "And by Allah, a Dirham that one of you takes from his effort and puts it in the right place is better than ten thousand that one of us receives as excess from someone else."
وَاللَّهِ لَدِرْهَمٌ يَأْخُذْهُ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ جَهْدٍ فَيَضَعُهُ فِي حَقٍّ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَشْرَةِ آلَافٍ يَأْخُذُهَا أَحَدُنَا فَيْضًا مِنْ فَيْضٍ
[Machine] I see it as a narrow, dry, dark house with no food, no drink, and no wife. He said, "By Allah, it is your house." He said, "By Allah, you are telling the truth. By Allah, if I had returned, I would have been transported from that place to this one."
أَرَاهُ بَيْتًا ضَيِّقًا يَابِسًا مُظْلِمًا لَيْسَ فِيهِ طَعَامٌ وَلَا شَرَابٌ وَلَا زَوْجَةٌ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ بَيْتُكَ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ صَدَقْتَ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَوْ قَدْ رَجَعْتُ نُقِلْتُ مِنْ ذَاكَ فِي هَذَا
[Machine] He said, "Read the Quran and do not let the hanging manuscripts deceive you, for Allah does not punish a heart that contains the Quran."
أَنَّهُ قَالَ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْمَصَاحِفُ الْمُعَلَّقَةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ لَا يُعَذِّبُ قَلْبًا وِعَاءً لِلْقُرْآنِ
[Machine] I wish I were a lamb of my family so they could take me, slaughter me, eat me and feed their guests.
لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي كَبْشُ أَهْلِي فَأَخَذُونِي فَذَبَحُونِي فَأَكَلُوا وَأَطْعَمُوا أَضْيِفَتَهُمْ
[Machine] K'ab heard a man reciting and making supplications, and the like of that, so he listened to him. Then he went away and said, "Woe unto the wailers upon themselves on the Day of Resurrection."
سَمِعَ كَعْبٌ قِرَاءَةَ رَجُلٍ وَدُعَاءَهُ وَنَحْوَ هَذَا فَاسْتَمَعَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ مَضَى وَقَالَ وَاهًا لِلنَّوَّاحِينَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
[Machine] Marwan asked Al-Miswar to witness him when he donated his house to Abdul Malik. Al-Miswar asked, "Does it include Al-'Abasiyyah?" Marwan replied, "No." Al-Miswar then said, "Then I won't bear witness." Marwan asked, "Why?" Al-Miswar explained, "It was taken from one of your hands and placed in the other." Marwan asked, "And who are you to decide that?" Al-Miswar replied, "I am only a witness." Marwan said, "But every time you became furious, I witnessed it." Abdullah added, "And Al-Abasiyyah is Marwan's wife."
أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ دَعَا الْمِسْوَرَ لِيُشْهِدَهُ حِينَ تَصَدَّقَ بِدَارِهِ عَلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْمِسْوَرُ وَيَرُبُّ فِيهَا الْعَبْسِيَّةَ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَلَا أَشْهَدُ قَالَ وَلِمَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُخِذَتْ مِنْ إِحْدَى يَدَيْكَ فَجُعِلَتْ فِي الْأُخْرَى قَالَ وَمَا أَنْتَ وَذَلِكَ أَحَكَمٌ أَنْتَ؟ وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتَ شَاهِدٌ فَقَالَ وَكُلَّمَا فَجَرْتُمْ فُجْرَةً شَهِدْتُ عَلَيْهَا؟ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَالْعَبْسِيَّةُ امْرَأَةُ مَرْوَانَ
[Machine] He offered, but he refused and did not leave him until he returned.
لَهُ أَعِدْ فَأَبَى فَلَمْ يَدَعْهُ حَتَّى أَعَادَ
[Machine] The wall remembered a lot of food, then it saw a cloud from the autumn and hated it. So, it said, "Don't I see that I have hated what benefits the Muslims who come to me, and I wish it was as I took it?" Omar, may Allah have mercy on him, heard that and said, "Does the wall receive anything?" So, he came to Omar and said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I have stored a lot of food, then I saw a cloud rising and I hated it, and I realized that I don't profit from it." Omar said, "May Allah reward you with goodness."
احْتَكَرَ الْمِسْوَرُ طَعَامًا كَثِيرًا فَرَأَى سَحَابًا مِنَ الْخَرِيفِ فَكَرِهَهُ فَقَالَ أَلَا أَرَانِي قَدْ كَرِهْتُ مَا يَنْفَعُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَنْ جَاءَنِي وَلَّيْتُهُ كَمَا أَخَذْتُهُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ أَمَا لِلْمِسْوَرِ أَخْذٌ فَأَتَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنِّي [168] احْتَكَرْتُ طَعَامًا كَثِيرًا فَرَأَيْتُ سَحَابًا قَدْ نَشَأَ فَكَرِهْتُهُ فَتَأَلَّيْتُ أَنِّي لَا أَرْبَحُ فِيهِ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا
[Machine] Whenever a group of people gather to remember Allah, a caller calls out to them: "Rise up, forgiven for you are your past sins; they have been replaced with good deeds."
مَا اجْتَمَعَ قَوْمٌ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ ﷻ إِلَّا نَادَاهُمْ مُنَادٍ قُومُوا مَغْفُورًا لَكُمْ قَدْ بُدِّلَتْ سَيِّئَاتُكُمْ حَسَنَاتٍ
[Machine] About a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the heart of this nation, and he had a virtue that whenever he was praised or commended, he would say, "O Allah, do not hold me accountable for what they say, and forgive me for what they do not know."
عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ صَدْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ وَكَانَ لَهُ فَضْلٌ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ مُدِحَ فَسَمِعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا يَقُولُونَ وَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
[Machine] In the saying of Allah, "And those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not miserly” [Quran 25:67], it is said that these are the companions of Muhammad ﷺ who did not eat food seeking pleasure, nor did they wear clothes seeking beauty, and their hearts were united as one.
فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ ﷻ {وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا} [الفرقان 67] قَالَ أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ كَانُوا لَا يَأْكُلُونَ طَعَامًا يَلْتَمِسُونَ بِهِ تَنَعُّمًا وَلَا يَلْبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا يَلْتَمِسُونَ جَمَالًا وَكَانَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ عَلَى قَلْبٍ وَاحِدٍ
[Machine] I entered upon Fath al-Mosili and found him lighting the fire with firewood, and Fath was a man from the Arabs and he was noble and ascetic.
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى فَتْحٍ الْمُوصِلِيِّ فَإِذَا هُوَ يُوقِدُ بِالْآجُرِّ وَكَانَ فَتْحٌ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْعَرَبِ وَكَانَ شَرِيفًا زَاهِدًا
[Machine] I heard Bilal's brother, the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , saying: "People are of three types: the peaceful, the gainer, and the pale. The peaceful is the silent one, the gainer orders good and forbids evil, and this is an increase from Allah. The pale is the one who speaks lies and assists in wrongdoing."
سَمِعْتُ أَخَا بِلَالٍ مُؤَذِّنِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ النَّاسُ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَسَالِمٌ وَغَانِمٌ وَشَاحِبٌ فَالسَّالِمُ السَّاكِتُ وَالْغَانِمُ يَأْمُرُ بِالْخَيْرِ وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ فَذَلِكَ فِي زِيَادَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ ﷻ وَالشَّاحِبُ النَّاطِقُ بِالْخَنَا وَالْمُعِينُ عَلَى الظُّلْمِ
[Machine] And he says in his response, "Labbaik, even if it was for show, I would still respond, Labbaik."
وَيَقُولُ فِي تَلْبِيَتِهِ لَبَّيْكَ لَوْ كَانَ رِيَاءً لَاضْمَحَلَّ لَبَّيْكَ
[Machine] The lice multiplied on Abdulrahman ibn Abi Nu'man, so he prayed to Allah and a boil appeared between his eyes.
Additionally, Muhammad ibn Humaid narrated to us, Jareer narrated from Mughira, who said: Abdulrahman ibn Abi Nu'man used to break his fast twice in Ramadan. He said: When we would say to Abdulrahman ibn Abi Nu'man, "How are you, O Abu Al-Hakam?" He would respond: If we are righteous, then we are noble and pious. And if we are wicked, then we are disgraceful and miserable.
كَثُرَ الْقَمْلُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نُعْمٍ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ ﷻ فَوَقَعَتْ كُبَّةٌ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ
وحَدَّثَنا أيْضًا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ قالَ: كانَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أبِي نُعْمٍ يُفْطِرُ فِي رَمَضانَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قالَ: وكُنّا إذا قُلْنا لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أبِي نُعْمٍ: كَيْفَ أنْتَ يا أبا الحَكَمِ قالَ: إنْ نَكُنْ أبْرارًا فَكِرامٌ أتْقِياءُ، وإنْ نَكُنْ فُجّارًا فَلِئامٌ أشْقِياءُ
[Machine] Jazwan said to Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, "May Allah not see me laughing until I know which of the two homes is mine?" Al-Hasan said, "So he was determined and did so, but he was not seen laughing until he met with Allah."
قَالَ غَزْوَانُ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَلَّا يَرَانِي اللَّهُ ضَاحِكًا حَتَّى أَعْلَمَ أَيَّ الدَّارَيْنِ دَارِي؟ قَالَ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ فَعَزَمَ فَفَعَلَ فَمَا رُئِيَ ضَاحِكًا حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِاللَّهِ ﷻ
[Machine] About Ghazwan al-Raqashi saying: "And we have more [than him]" (Quran 35). He said, "What pleases me is not my share of worldly possessions altogether."
عَنْ غَزْوَانَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ قَوْلُهُ ﷻ {وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ} [ق 35] قَالَ مَا يَسُرُّنِي لِحَظِّي مِنَ الْمَزِيدِ الدُّنْيَا جَمِيعًا
