40. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmār (3/4)
[Machine] Um Ghazwan used to receive the army when it arrived and would say, "Do you have any news from Ghazwan?" They would reply, "That is the leader of the army."
[Machine] And we say to him, "Do you see in it that we have misled her in such and such a year?" He said, "I see in it a good promise and a severe threat."
[Machine] She loves to see you, so if she is sincere, then provide that for her. And if she dislikes it, Isma'il said, "carry it on her" and he said once, "provide that for her even if she dislikes it". And feed seven lions and birds with my flesh. So he set off into a mountain and entered a wall. The enemy spotted them, so they came and grabbed them from a gap in the wall. The lion descended from a horse and attacked it until it surrendered and retreated. Then he went to the water, made ablution, and prayed. He said, "The Persians say, this is how the Arabs surrender when they surrender, then they advance and fight until they are killed. May Allah have mercy on him." He said, "Then the bones of the army passed by that wall. His brother said to him, 'If you had entered and seen what remains of your brother's bones and flesh.' He said, 'No, my brother called to me with a call, so I responded to it. So I do not turn away from any of that.'"
[Machine] O Fulan, if you escape from it, you will escape from a great danger. Otherwise, I will not be your savior.
[Machine] "Whichever son of mine advances, fight until you are accounted for. Then, carry on and fight until you are killed, may Allah have mercy on you. Then, continue to advance and you will be killed. The women gathered around the wife of Mu'adhah al-'Adawiyyah and she said, 'Welcome! If you have come to congratulate me, then welcome. And if you have come for something else, then go back.'"
[Machine] This is my daily routine in which I do not sleep until evening comes. And when night arrives, I say, "This is my night in which I die, so I do not sleep until morning." And when the cold comes, I wear thin clothes until the cold prevents me from sleeping.
[Machine] Abu Al-Sahba said: I sought the world from its provisions, so I made sure not to consume anything from it except what is necessary. As for me, I do not depend on it, and as for it, it does not surpass me. When I saw this, I said: "Oh soul, if your sustenance is enough for you, then be content with a quarter." So she quartered it, and it barely sufficed.
[Machine] A young man among them said, "O people, indeed by Allah, I have no intention in doing this except for us! We engage in enjoyment during the day and sleep at night, then we follow our desires. He (referring to the Prophet) continued to argue with them until he brought them to the cliff and worshipped with him until he died."
[Machine] I was traveling on a camel in Ahwaz when I became extremely hungry. I couldn't find anyone who would sell me food, and I started to worry that I would go hungry. Just as I was traveling, I heard someone say, "Pray to my Lord and feed him." I turned around and saw a white cloth. I got off my camel and took the cloth, which had some dates in it. I ate from it until I was full, and then the evening came. I went to a monk in a monastery and told him what had happened. He fed me some more dates, and then I continued on my way. Later, I passed by the same monk and saw palm trees with beautiful dates. He said, "These are from the dates you fed me." He brought the cloth back to his family, and his wife showed it to people.
[Machine] I said to him one day, "Teach me something valuable, entrust me with something precious, or give me advice." He said, "Do good and give sincere advice based on the Book of Allah. Advise the Muslims and increase in inviting people to the way of Allah. Beware of being destroyed by the public's criticism and do not become a killer of disobedient people. Beware of associating with a group who claim to be believers but are not truly so." I said, "Who are they?" He said, "They are the Kharijites, the wicked ones."
[Machine] Mu'adhah is what connects the prayer that comes from his home mosque to his bed, only love is standing until he pauses, and he does not come to his bed except with love.
[Machine] I came to the city in search of knowledge. When I entered the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I saw people sitting in circles, talking to each other. I started walking between the circles until I reached one circle where there was a young man wearing two garments, as if he had just arrived from a journey. I heard him saying, "The people of Al-Uqda have perished, and the Lord of the Kaaba is not saddened by them." He continued talking about this, and I sat down next to him. He told me what had been decreed for him, and then he stood up. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "The leader of the Muslims, Ubayy ibn Ka'b." I followed him until he reached his house. His house was in a dilapidated state, and he himself was an ascetic, detached from worldly matters. I greeted him and he returned the greeting. Then he asked me, "Where are you from?" I said, "From Iraq." He said, "Most of the questions come from there." I became angry and turned towards the Qibla, and fell on my knees, raising my hands like this (demonstrates). I said, "O Allah, we complain to You that we spend our wealth, exhaust our bodies, and travel long distances in search of knowledge. But when we meet them, they ignore us and say, 'Who are you?' " Ubayy ibn Ka'b started to cry a lot, and he kept praising and thanking me, saying, "Woe to you, I shouldn't have gone there!" Then he said, "O Allah, I promise You that if I remain until Friday, I will speak about what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without fearing any blame." When we heard his words, I left and waited for Friday. I went out on Thursday and saw the streets crowded with people. I couldn't find a way except that people were pushing me towards it. I asked, "What is this?" They said, "We see you as a strange man." I said, "Indeed." They said, "The leader of the Muslims, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, has died." When they said that, I became sad and went to Abdullah ibn Masud. I told him about what had happened, and he himself expressed regret for not being able to meet him. May Allah's mercy be upon him. He was a servant who wanted to protect his Lord's secret.

[Machine] I found them arguing among themselves and laughing at each other, and when it became night, they became monks.

[Machine] A servant does not fear Allah until he restrains his tongue.
[Machine] I heard Anas saying, "When you meet a woman, close your eyes until she passes by."
[Machine] "And he addresses the people, O Muslim community, fear Allah ﷻ! By the One in whose hand is my soul, I remain covered and modestly conceal my head when I depart to relieve myself in open space, out of shyness and respect for my Lord ﷻ."
[Machine] "In His saying, 'Its fruits are close, accessible.' [Al-Haqqa 23] The people of Paradise say, 'They eat from its fruits however they wish, while standing, sitting, or reclining, and at all times.'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ : I entered paradise and I saw that most of its people were poor, and I looked into hellfire and saw that most of its people were wealthy. I saw therein a woman from the tribe of Himyar who was being punished. She had tied a cat and did not feed it or give it water, nor did she allow it to eat from the insects of the earth, so it would tear apart her heart and hinder her from sleeping. I also saw there a man named Duda who used to steal from the pilgrims with his staff. When he was caught, he would say, "I only held onto my staff, and the one who stole my belongings was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
[Machine] The actions most beloved to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are those that are consistent, even if they are few.
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, who is the most God-conscious among people?" He said, "The one who encourages them to do good, discourages them from evil, and maintains their family ties."
[Machine] Ibrahim [173] oppression on the road is better than oppression in religion.
[Machine] "Mutharrif ibn Al-Shekhir used to say, 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the trials of authority and the evil that their pens may produce.'"
[Machine] "Oh Abu Wail, what do you say about someone who passes away and leaves behind something like this?" So I replied, "Ignore it, how could it matter if it is from looters?" He said, "That is evil upon evil." Then he said, "Oh Abu Wail, when I arrive in Kufa, come to me so that perhaps I may bring you some good." So I arrived in Kufa and went to al-Akhamah and informed him. He said, "Had you come to me before seeking consultation, I would not have advised you anything. But if you consult me, then it is my right to advise you what I believe is best for me, even if I give away two thousand [dirhams] against two thousand [dirhams]. And that is because I have never received anything from their worldly matters except that they have affected my religion more than it."
