ahmad-zuhd:1157ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ismāʿīl > Yūnus > al-Ḥasan > Abū al-Ṣahbāʾ Ṣilah b. Ashyam Ṭalabt al-Dunyā from Maẓān Ḥalālihā Fajaʿalt Lā Uṣīb Fīhā Illā Qūt Ammā

[Machine] Abu Al-Sahba said: I sought the world from its provisions, so I made sure not to consume anything from it except what is necessary. As for me, I do not depend on it, and as for it, it does not surpass me. When I saw this, I said: "Oh soul, if your sustenance is enough for you, then be content with a quarter." So she quartered it, and it barely sufficed.  

الزهد لأحمد:١١٥٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَنْبَأَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ

قَالَ أَبُو الصَّهْبَاءِ صِلَةُ بْنُ أَشْيَمَ طَلَبْتُ الدُّنْيَا مِنْ مَظَانِّ حَلَالِهَا فَجَعَلْتُ لَا أُصِيبُ فِيهَا إِلَّا قُوتًا أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَا أُعِيلُ فِيهِ وَأَمَّا هُوَ فَلَا يُجَاوِزُنِي فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ أَيْ نَفْسُ جُعِلَ رِزْقُكِ كَفَافًا فَأَرْبِعِي فَرَبَعَتْ وَلَمْ تَكِدَّ
