Harithah ibn Mudarrib said that he came to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and said (to him): There is no enmity between me and any of the Arabs. I passed a mosque of Banu Hanifah. They (the people) believed in Musaylimah. Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud) sent for them. They were brought, and he asked them to repent, except Ibn an-Nawwahah. He said to him: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Were it not that you were not a messenger, I would behead you. But today you are not a messenger. He then ordered Qarazah ibn Ka'b (to kill him). He beheaded him in the market. Anyone who wants to see Ibn an-Nawwahah slain in the market (he may see him). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2762)

Abdullah replied and stayed for as long as Allah willed, then he came and said, "By the One whom I swear by, O Abu Abdur Rahman, I have left them now in a house and that Quran is with them." He ordered Qarzah bin Ka'b to go with the people, and he said, "Bring them." When he brought them, Abdullah said, "What is this after the spreading of Islam?" They said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, we seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him, and we testify that Musaylimah is the liar who fabricates lies against Allah and His Messenger." Abdullah then accepted their repentance and sent them to Ash-Sham (Greater Syria), and they were about eighty men. But Ibn An-Nawwahah refused to repent, so Qarzah bin Ka'b ordered him to be taken to the market place, and his neck was struck, and he was ordered to take his own head and throw it into his mother's room. Abdullah bin Abdullah said, "After that, I met an old man among them in Ash-Sham, and he said to me, 'May Allah have mercy upon your father. The incident reached Abdullah, so he went to Abdullah and asked him, "What happened between you and your family?" He said, "There was neither divorce, nor talaq (repudiation), nor zihar (when a husband likens his wife to a relative), but he narrated the whole story to him. «فَالْزَمْ جَمَاعَةَ النَّاسِ»

tabarani:8971ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz > ʿĀrim Abū al-Nuʿmān > Ḥammād b. Zayd > Mujālid > al-Shaʿbī > Thābit b. Quṭbah al-Muzanī > Khaṭabanā ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd Yawm Khuṭbah Lam Yakhṭub.ā > ā Qablahā And Lā Baʿdahā

[Machine] "O people, fear Allah and be obedient and united. Verily, they are the rope of Allah upon which He has commanded. And indeed, what you dislike in obedience and unity is better than what you love in division. And Allah has not created anything in this world except that He has set a limit for it, which it will reach and then decrease until the Day of Resurrection. Surely, the firmness of Islam has been established, but it will soon diminish and disperse until the Day of Resurrection. And a sign of that is that you sever your family ties and spread discord so much so that the wealthy no longer fear poverty, and the poor no longer find anyone to be compassionate towards them. And even the beggar stands between the two congregational prayers and nothing is given to him. While the people are in this state, the earth will sink like the sinking of a cow. Each group will think that the sinking is only happening within their own area, then a return will come and the second sinking will be even more severe, like the destruction of their own livers." Then he was asked, what is the destruction of the liver? He said, "These bracelets made of gold and silver. From that day, gold and silver will be of no value until the Day of Resurrection. And no one will find anyone who accepts his charity."

And indeed, what you dislike in obedience and unity is better for you than what you like in division. And Allah has not created anything except that He has made an end for it to which it will return. And indeed, Islam has come with stability, and it is soon to reach its end, then it will turn back and diminish until the Day of Resurrection. And the sign of that is the increase of disputes and the cutting off of family relations, to the point that the poor person cannot find someone to help him, and the wealthy person realizes that what he possesses is not enough for him. And to the extent that a man complains to his brother and cousin, but none of them gives him anything. And to the extent that the beggar walks between the congregations with nothing in his hand, until the ground beneath them becomes barren, and the people of every land can see that it has become barren in their land. Then it will calm down for them as Allah wills, then the earth will suddenly vomit out its treasures." It was said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, what are the treasures that the earth will vomit out?" He replied, "Barrels of gold and silver. So from that day onwards, gold and silver will not be of any benefit until the Day of Resurrection."
