Once Sa'd, with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, visited a woman in front of whom were some date-stones or pebbles which she was using as a rosary to glorify Allah. He (the Prophet) said: I tell you something which would be easier (or more excellent) for you than that. He said (it consisted of saying): "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created in Heaven; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created on Earth; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He has created between them; "Glory be to Allah" as many times as the number of that which He is creating; "Allah is most great" a similar number of times; "Praise (be to Allah)" a similar number of times; and "There is no god but Allah" a similar number of times; "There is no might and no power except in Allah" a similar number of times.

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا نَوًى أَوْ حَصًى تُسَبِّحُ بِهِ فَقَالَ أُخْبِرُكِ بِمَا هُوَ أَيْسَرُ عَلَيْكِ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ أَفْضَلُ فَقَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا هُوَ خَالِقٌ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ

from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: Whoever says:

al-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā khalaqa, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā khalaqa, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā fī al-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā fī al-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada mā aḥṣā kitābuhu, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa mā aḥṣā kitābuhu, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi ʿadada kulli shayʾ, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi milʾa kulli shayʾ

(All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what ˹creations˺ He created, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills what He created. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what are in the heavens and the earth, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills the heavens and the earth. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of what His Book has enumerated, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills that His Book has enumerated. All praise is due to Allah as much as the number of everything, and all praise is due to Allah as much as what fills everything.)

... and do the same ˹saying˺ subḥān Allah (glory be to Allah) then, that is the greatest.

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ:

(الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ)

وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ مِثْلَهَا فَأَعْظِمْ ذَلِكَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no servant who recites 'Alhamdulillah' (praise be to Allah) as many times as the number of His creations, and there is no servant who recites 'Alhamdulillah' filling what Allah has created, and there is no servant who recites 'Alhamdulillah' as many times as what is in the heavens and the earth, and there is no servant who recites 'Alhamdulillah' as many times as the number that His book enumerates, and there is no servant who recites 'Alhamdulillah' as many times as everything and glorified is Allah and similar to them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That is the greatest."

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا نَوًى أَوْ حَصًى أُخْبِرُكِ بِمَا هُوَ أَيْسَرُ عَلَيْكِ مِنْ هَذَا وَأَفْضَلُ؟ قُولِي سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي السَّمَاءِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي الْأَرْضِ تُسَبِّحُ فَقَالَ «سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا هُوَ خَالِقٌ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by him while he was moving his lips, so he said, "What are you saying, O Abu Umamah?"

He said, "I remember my Lord."

He said, "Shall I not inform you of something greater and better than your remembrance of Him day and night? That is to say, 'Glorified is Allah in number as much as He has created, and glorified is Allah in fullness as much as He has created, and glorified is Allah in number as much as is in the earth and the heaven, and glorified is Allah in fullness as much as is in the earth and the heaven, and glorified is Allah in number as much as His Book has counted, and glorified is Allah in number as much as everything, and glorified is Allah in fullness as much as everything, and you say, 'Praise be to Allah' like that.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْهِ فَقَالَ «مَاذَا تَقُولُ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ؟ » قَالَ أَذْكُرُ رَبِّي قَالَ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَكْثَرَ أَوْ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذِكْرِكَ اللَّيْلَ مَعَ النَّهَارِ وَالنَّهَارَ مَعَ اللَّيْلِ؟ أَنْ تَقُولَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَتَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ»

قَالَ أَبْصَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأنا أُحَرِّكُ شَفَتِي فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ مَا تَقُولُ؟ قُلْتُ أَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ قَالَ أُعَلِّمُكَ شَيْئًا هُوَ أَفْضَلُ من ذكر الله الليل مع النهار مَعَ اللَّيْلِ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ قُلْ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَن رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ إلاَّ أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ وَحْدَهُ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ تَكَلَّمَ فِيهِ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ وَضَعَّفُوهُ وَرَوَى عَنْهُ الثَّوْرِيّ فَمَنْ دُونَهُ وَاحْتَمَلَ النَّاسُ حَدِيثَهُ عَلَى مَا فِيهِ وَإنَّما كَتَبْنَاهُ لأَنَّا لا نَحْفَظُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ ولاَ نَعْلَمُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ الأَصَمِّ رَوَى عَن أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ غَيْرَ هذا الحديث

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ saw me while I was moving my lips, so he said, "What are you saying, O Abu Umamah?" I said, "I am remembering Allah." He said, "Shall I not tell you of something that is more abundant in remembrance of Allah than you? You say: 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) equal to the number of His creations, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) filling what He has created, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) equal to what is in the heavens and what is on the earth, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) equal to what His Book has enumerated, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) filling what His Book has enumerated, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) equal to everything, and 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) filling everything." Then he said, "Teach them to those who come after you."

رَآنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا أُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيَّ فَقَالَ «مَا تَقُولُ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ؟» قُلْتُ أَذْكُرُ اللهَ قَالَ أَفَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى مَا هُوَ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ ذِكْرِكَ اللهَ اللَّيْلَ مَعَ النَّهَارِ؟ تَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَتُسَبِّحُ اللهَ مِثْلَهُنَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ «تُعَلِّمُهُنَّ عَقِبَكَ مِنْ بَعْدَكَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ came out while I was sitting moving my lips, so he said, "Why are you moving your lips?" I said, "I am remembering Allah, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Should I not tell you of something that, if you say it, and then continue to say it day and night, you will never fail to reach it?" I said, "Yes, please do." He said, "Say: 'Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)' as many times as the number of His creation, and as many times as the number of everything in His Book, and as many times as the number of everything in His creation, and as many times as the number of everything in His creation, and as many times as the number of everything in His creation, and as many times as the number of everything in His creation, and as many times as the number of everything in His creation. And glorify and magnify Him like that."

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ أُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيَّ فَقَالَ «بِمَ تُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْكَ؟» قُلْتُ أَذْكُرُ اللهَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِشَيْءٍ إِذَا قُلْتَهُ ثُمَّ دَأَبْتَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَمْ تَبْلُغْهُ؟» قُلْتُ بَلَى فَقَالَ «تَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي كِتَابِهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى خَلْقُهُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى مَا فِي خَلْقِهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ سَمَاوَاتِهِ وَأَرْضِهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَدَدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَتُسَبِّحُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَتُكَبِّرُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by Abu Umamah while he was moving his lips. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "What are you saying, O Abu Umamah?" He replied, "I remember my Lord." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shall I not inform you of something better or greater than your remembrance of Him day and night? Say: SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what He has created, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of the entirety of His creation, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what is in the earth and the heavens, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what is in the heavens and the earth, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what He has counted in His book, and SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of everything. And say Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) the same number of times as that. It is narrated by Abu Taher Ahmad bin Amr bin Al-Sarh from Ibn Wahab from Amr bin Al-Harith from Sa'eed bin Abi Hilal from Khuzaymah from Aisha bint Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas from her father Sa'd, that he entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon a woman who had pebbles or stones in front of her to count the tasbih (glorification). So he said, "Shall I not tell you something that is easier for you than this or even better? SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what He has created in the heavens, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what He has created in the earth, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what is between them, SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) the number of what He has created, Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) the same number of times as that, and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) the same number of times as that, and there is no power or strength except with Allah, the same number of times as that."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْهِ فَقَالَ «مَاذَا تَقُولُ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ؟» قَالَ أَذْكُرُ رَبِّي قَالَ ألَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَفْضَلَ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذِكْرِكَ اللَّيْلِ مَعَ النَّهَارِ وَالنَّهَارِ مَعَ اللَّيْلِ أَنْ تَقُولَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ مِلْءَ مَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ مِلْءَ مَا خَلَقَ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ مِلْءَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَتَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ 9922 عَنْ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ عَنْ خُزَيْمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهَا سَعْدٍ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدِهَا نَوَى أَوْ حَصَى تُسَبِّحُ بِهِ (فَقَالَ أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكِ بِمَا هُوَ أَيْسَرُ عَلَيْكِ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ أَفْضَلُ؟ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ عَدَدَ مَا هُوَ خَالِقٌ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَالْحَمْدُ للهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللهِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ) (1)

"أَلا أُخْبُركَ بما هُوَ أيْسَرُ عليكَ من هذا وَأَفْضَلُ؟ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهَ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ في السَّمَاءِ، وسبحان اللَّهَ عَدَدَ مَا خَلَقَ في الأَرْض، وسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ ما خَلَقَ بين ذلكَ، وسبحانَ اللَّهَ عَدَدَ مَا هو خالقٌ، واللَّه أَكبرُ مثلُ ذلكَ، والْحمد للَّه مثلُ ذلكَ، ولا إِله إِلَّا اللَّهُ مثل ذلكَ، ولا حول ولا قُوَّةَ إِلا باللَّه مِثْلُ ذلكَ ".

"ألا أخْبُركَ بأَكْثَرَ وأَفْضَل من ذكْركَ اللَّيلَ مَعَ النَّهَارِ والنهار مَعَ اللَّيْلِ؟ أن تقولَ سُبْحَان اللَّه عدد مَا خلق، وسبحان اللَّه مِلءَ ما خلق، وسبحان اللَّه عَدَدَ ما في الأَرْضِ والسَّمَاءِ، وسبحان اللَّه مِلءَ ما في الأرض والسَّمَاءِ، وسبحان اللَّه عَدَدَ مَا أَحْصَى كتابه، وسبحان اللَّه عَدَدَ كُلِّ شىْءٍ، وسُبْحانَ اللَّه مِلْءَ كُلِّ شئٍ، وتقول: الْحمد للَّه مِثْلَ ذلكَ" .

"مَا مِنْ عبْد قال: الحمْدُ للهِ عَدد ما خَلَقَ اللهُ، والحمْدُ للهِ مِلْءَ ما خَلَقَ، والحمد للهِ عدَدَ مَا فِي السَّموات والأرْضِ، والحْمَدُ لله عدد ما أَحْصَى كِتَابُهُ، والحَمْدُ للهِ عددَ كُلِّ شئٍ، وسُبْحَان اللهِ مِثْلَهُنَّ".

"عن أبى أمامة قال: رآنى النبى ﷺ وأنا أحرك شفتى فقال: لِمَ تحرك شفتيك؟ فقلت: اذكر الله، قال: أفلا أدلك على شئ هو أكبر من ذكرك الليل مع النهار، والنهار مع الليل؟ قلت: بلى يا نبى الله، قال: قل الحمد لله عدد ما خلق، والحمد لله مثل ما خلق، والحمد لله عدد ما في السموات والأرض، والحمد لله عدد ما أحصى كتابه، والحمد لله عدد كل شئ، وسبحان الله عدد ما خلق، وسبحان الله ملء ما خلق، وسبحان الله ملء ما في السموات والأرض، وسبحان الله عدد ما أحصى كتابه، وسبحان الله عدد كل شئ، وسبحان الله ملء كل شئ - قال أبو أمامة: إن رسول الله ﷺ أمرنى أن أعلمهن عقبى من بعدى".
