"The Messenger of Allah was asked about (buying) fresh dates with dried dates, and he said to those who were around him: 'Will fresh dates decrease (in weight or volume) when they dry out?" they said Yes,' so he forbade that."  

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْهُ  

"The Messenger of Allah was asked about (buying) said; 'Will fresh dates decrees (in weight or volume) when they dry out? 'They said 'yes so he forbade that"  

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الرُّطَبِ بِالتَّمْرِ فَقَالَ أَيَنْقُصُ إِذَا يَبِسَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْهُ  

Which of them is better? He replied: Soft and white kind of wheat. So he forbade him from it and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sawa) say, when he was asked about buying dry dates for fresh. The Messenger of Allah (sawa) said: Are fresh dates diminished when they become dry? The (the people) replied: Yes. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade that. Abu Dawud said: A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Isma'il b. Umayyah.  

وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنْ شِرَاءِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ  

"Zaid, Abu Ayyash asked Sa'd regarding white wheat in exchange for barley: which of them was better ? He said the white, then he forbade that. Sa'd said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about selling dried dates for ripe dates and he said to those present: "Will the fresh dates shrink when they are dry ?" They said yes, so he forbade that.'"  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنِ اشْتِرَاءِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Yazid that Zayd ibn Ayyash told him that he had once asked Sad ibn Abi Waqqas about selling white wheat for a type of good barley. Sad asked him which was the better and when he told him the white wheat, he forbade the transaction. Sad said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about selling dried dates for fresh dates, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do the dates diminish in size when they become dry?' When he was told that they did, he forbade that."  

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنِ الْبَيْضَاءِ بِالسُّلْتِ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ أَيَّتُهُمَا أَفْضَلُ قَالَ الْبَيْضَاءُ فَنَهَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ سَعْدٌ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنِ اشْتِرَاءِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] And he (the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ) said, "I heard the Prophet being asked about dried dates (rutab) and he said, 'It decreases if it dries.' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Then no.'"  

وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنِ الرُّطَبِ بِالتَّمْرِ فَقَالَ يَنْقُصُ إِذَا يَبِسَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَلا إِذَاً  

Which of them is better? He replied: Soft and white kind of wheat. So he forbade him from it and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sawa) say, when he was asked about buying dry dates for fresh. وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنْ يَبِسِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ؟ » قَالَ نَعَمْ فَنَهَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ «أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْهُ  

"The Messenger of Allah was asked about (buying) said; 'Will fresh dates decrees (in weight or volume) when they dry out? 'They said 'yes so he forbade that" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4546)  

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الرُّطَبِ بِالتَّمْرِ فَقَالَ «أَيَنْقُصُ إِذَا يَبِسَ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْهُ  

[Machine] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about buying dates with fresh dates. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Does the fresh date decrease if it becomes dry?" They said: Yes. So he forbade it. And it was narrated by Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan from Malik who said: Abdullah ibn Yazid narrated to me.  

وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ اشْتِرَاءِ التَّمْرِ بِالرُّطَبِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا يَبِسَ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَنَهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَرَوَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ مَالِكٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ
