"عَنْ سَعدٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ النَّبىُّ ﷺ عَن الرُّطَبِ بِالتَّمْرِ فَقَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ: أَيَنْقُصُ الرُّطَبُ إِذَا جَفَّ؟ قُلْنَا: نَعَمْ، فَنَهَى عَنْهُ".

"Zaid, Abu Ayyash asked Sa'd regarding white wheat in exchange for barley: which of them was better ? He said the white, then he forbade that. Sa'd said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about selling dried dates for ripe dates and he said to those present: "Will the fresh dates shrink when they are dry ?" They said yes, so he forbade that.'"

Forbidding exchange of fresh dates for dried dates
[AI] Sa'd was asked about white wheat for barley, and he disliked it. He said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ being asked about fresh dates for dried dates, and he said, "Does it decrease when it dries?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then no."
سُئِلَ سَعْدٌ عَنِ الْبَيْضَاءِ بِالسُّلْتِ، فَكَرِهَهُ، وَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنِ الرُّطَبِ بِالتَّمْرِ، فَقَالَ: «يَنْقُصُ إِذَا يَبِسَ؟» قَالُوا: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: «فَلا إِذَاً»
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Yazid that Zayd ibn Ayyash told him that he had once asked Sad ibn Abi Waqqas about selling white wheat for a type of good barley. Sad asked him which was the better and when he told him the white wheat, he forbade the transaction. Sad said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about selling dried dates for fresh dates, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do the dates diminish in size when they become dry?' When he was told that they did, he forbade that."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was asked about eating dried dates, and he said, "Will it cause any decrease if it dries?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then refrain from it." This ruling was also confirmed by Yahya ibn Abi Kathir in his narration from Abdullah ibn Yazid.

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ was asked about eating dried dates. He said, "What is the benefit in eating them when they are dry?" They responded, "Indeed, there is no benefit." So he prohibited it. This narration was reported to us by Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah, from Isma'il ibn Umayyah, in a similar wording from Al-Thawri.
