ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِقَصِّ الشَّوَارِبِ وَتَرْكِ اللِّحَى

ibnhibban:5475 – ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān > Aḥmad b. Abū Bakr > Mālik > Abū Bakr b. Nāfiʿ from his father > Ibn ʿUmar

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded to clip the moustaches and grow the beard long. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4199)  

ابن حبّان:٥٤٧٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحَى»

muslim:259b – Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Mālik b. Anas > Abū Bakr b. Nāfiʿ from his father > Ibn ʿUmar

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ ordered us to trim the moustache closely and spare the beard.  

مسلم:٢٥٩b – وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ أَمَرَ بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحْيَةِ  

nasai:15 – ʿUbaydullāh b. Saʿīd > Yaḥyá > Ibn Saʿīd > ʿUbaydullāh > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

"Trim the mustache and let the beard grow."

That the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "Trim the mustache and let the beard grow."

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Let the beard grow and trim the mustache.'"

The Prophet [SAW] said: "Trim the mustache and let the beard grow."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحَى  

tirmidhi:2763 – al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī al-Khalāal > ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr > ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Trim the mustache and leave the beard to grow."  

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ṣaḥīḥ.
الترمذي:٢٧٦٣ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْخَلاَّلُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَحْفُوا الشَّوَارِبَ وَأَعْفُوا اللِّحَى  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ
tirmidhi:2764 – al-Anṣārī > Maʿn > Mālik > Abū Bakr b. Nāfiʿ from his father > Ibn ʿUmar

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered trimming the mustache and leaving the beard to grow.  

الترمذي:٢٧٦٤ – حَدَّثَنَا الأَنْصَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَنَا بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحَى  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ هُوَ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ثِقَةٌ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ثِقَةٌ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ يُضَعَّفُ
malik:51-1 – Mālik > Abū Bakr b. Nāfiʿ > Abīh Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Bakr ibn Nafi from his father Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the moustache to be trimmed and the beard to be left.  

مالك:٥١-١ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحَى  

ahmad:4654 – Yaḥyá > ʿUbaydullāh > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Let the beard grow and trim the mustache.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5046)  

أحمد:٤٦٥٤ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ أَخْبَرَنَا نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَحْفُوا الشَّوَارِبَ وَأَعْفُوا اللِّحَى  

suyuti:746a –

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ said: Trim closely the moustache, and let the beard grow. (Using translation from Muslim 259a)
