9. Book of Ṣalāh (8/30)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A prayer is not valid if Al-Fatiha is not recited in it." I said, "What if I am following the imam?" He took my hand and said, "Recite it within yourself."
from his father, from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever performs a Salat in which he does not recite Umm Al-Qur'an in it, then it is aborted, it is aborted, not complete." He Said: "I said: 'O Abu Hurairah! Sometimes I am behind an Imam.' He said: 'O Ibn Al-Farisi! Then recite it to yourself. For indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Allah, the Most High said: "I have divided the Salat between Myself and My slaves into two halves. Half of it is for Me, and half of it for My slave, and My slave shall have what he asks for. My slave stands and says: All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of All that exists." So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High says: "My slave has expressed his gratitude to Me." He says: "The Merciful, the Beneficent. So he says: "My slave has praised Me." He says: Owner of the Day of Reckoning. He says: "My slave has glorified Me. And this is for Me, and between Me and My slave is: It is You alone whom we worship and it is You alone from whom we seek aid" until the end of the Surah "This is for My slave and My slave shall have what he asks for." So he says: Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed your favor, not those with whom is Your wrath, now those who are astray."' (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2953)

Concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime: "And offer your salah (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice"- It was revealed when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was still (preaching) in secret in Makkah. When he led his companions in prayer, he would raise his voice" -(One of the narrators) Ibn Mani' said: He would recite the Quran out loud"- "And when the idolators heard his voice they would insult the Quran, and the One Who revealed it, and the one who brought it. So Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said to His Prophet ﷺ: And offer your salah (prayer) neither aloud that is, such that the idolators can hear your recitation and insult the Quran; nor in a low voice, so that your companions cannot hear; but follow a way between." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1011)
فِي قَوْلِهِ {وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا} قَالَ «نَزَلَتْ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُخْتَفِي بِمَكَّةَ فَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِذَا سَمِعُوا سَبُّوا الْقُرْآنَ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهُ وَمَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ» فَقَالَ اللَّهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ {وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ} «أَيْ بِقِرَاءَتِكَ فَيَسْمَعَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ فَيَسُبُّوا الْقُرْآنَ» {وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا} عَنْ أَصْحَابِكَ فَلَا تُسْمِعُهُمْ {وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلًا}
[Machine] In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Then he recited from the mother of the book until he reached the verse "not of those who have evoked Your anger or of those who are astray." He said, "Ameen" and the people said, "Ameen." When he bowed, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he raised his head, he said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him." Then he said, "Allah is the Greatest" and prostrated. When he raised his head from prostration, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he prostrated again, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he raised his head from prostration, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." Then he faced the audience while standing and saying the Takbeer. When he stood up from the second Rak'ah, he said, "Allah is the Greatest." When he finished his prayer, he said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I indeed pray in a similar manner to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I mentioned that to Imran ibn Husayn and he said, "We learned the silent pauses, so we wrote to Ubayy ibn Ka'b in Al Madinah and he wrote to me that Samurah has memorized them," Said said. So we asked Qatadah, "What are these silent pauses?" He said, "When he enters into his prayer and when he finishes reciting."

[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I am not proficient in reciting the Quran. Teach me something that will suffice me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Say, 'Subhanallah' (Glory be to Allah), 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah), 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah), and 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the greatest)." The man asked, "Is this sufficient for me with my Lord?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Say, 'Allahumma ighfirli wa rhamni wa rzuqni wa 'afini' (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, provide for me, and protect me)."

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: I cannot memorise anything from the Qur'an: so teach me something which is sufficient for me. He said: Say Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is most great, and there is no might and no strength but in Allah. :He said: Messenger of Allah, this is for Allah, but what is for me? He said: Say: O Allah have mercy on me, and sustain me, and keep me well, and guide me. When he stood up, he made a sign with his hand (indicating that he had earned a lot). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He filed up his hand with virtues. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 832)

"I have never prayed behind anyone whose prayer more closely resembled that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than so-and-so." (The narrator) Sulaiman siad: "He used to make the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr lengthy and the last two shorter, and he would make 'Asr shorter; in Maghrib he would recite the short Mufassal surahs, in Isha' the medium-length Mufassal surahs and in Subh the long Mufassal surahs. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 982)

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ ordered Mu'adh to recite in the prayers of the night, at sunrise, and its bright morning, and at night when it covers, and to glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High, and the morning and similar Surahs."

[Machine] Mu'adh used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then he would go back to his people and pray with them. The Prophet ﷺ delayed the prayer one night, so Mu'adh led his people in prayer and recited Surah Al-Baqarah. When a man from his people saw this, he went to a side of the mosque and prayed alone. They said, "You have become a hypocrite." He said, "No, I will surely inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So, he went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Mu'adh prays with you and then comes back and leads us in prayer. And you delayed the prayer last night." So, the Prophet ﷺ came and led us in prayer. He recited Surah Al-Baqarah. I was delayed, so I prayed alone, O Messenger of Allah. Indeed, we are clear and we work with our own hands. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Mu'adh, are you reciting Surah Al-Baqarah to them? Recite Surah Al-Lail and Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High. And the heaven, We have built it with craftsmanship."

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite during the Maghrib prayer on Friday night: Surah Al-Kafirun (Chapter of the Disbelievers) and Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter of Sincerity). And he used to recite during the Isha prayer on Friday night: Surah Al-Jumu'ah (Chapter of Friday) and Surah Al-Munafiqun (Chapter of the Hypocrites)."
[Machine] "He heard Uqbah bin 'Amir say, 'I followed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was riding, so I placed my hand on his foot and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me either a Surah from Surah Hud or a Surah from Surah Yusuf.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Uqbah bin 'Amir, you will not recite a Surah more beloved to Allah or more significant to Him than "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak'" (Surah Al-Falaq). If you can make sure it is not missed in your prayer, then do so.'"
[Machine] Heﷺ said to us, the messenger of Allahﷺ led us in prayer in which he recited aloud. When he finished, he turned to the people and said, "Did anyone among you recite before me?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "I would never argue with the Quran."
