ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas authorized his brother Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas to take the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa into his custody, telling him that the boy was his own (illegal) son. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ went (to Mecca) at the time of the Conquest, Saʿd took the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and also brought 'Abu bin Zamʿa with him and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This is the son of my brother ʿUtba who authorized me to take him into my custody." 'Abu bin Zamʿa said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! He is my brother, the son of Zamʿa's slave-girl and he was born on his bed." Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa and noticed much resemblance (to ʿUtba). Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is for you, O 'Abu bin Zamʿa as he was born on the bed of your father." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then told Sauda bint Zamʿa to observe veil in the presence of the boy as he noticed the boy's resemblance to ʿUtba and Sauda was the wife of the Prophet ﷺ .  

عُتْبَةُ إِنَّهُ ابْنِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَ سَعْدٌ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَقْبَلَ مَعَهُ بِعَبْدِ بْنِ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ابْنُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا أَخِي ابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى ابْنِ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَإِذَا هُوَ أَشْبَهُ النَّاسِ بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِيهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ بِنْتَ زَمْعَةَ مِمَّا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ وَكَانَتْ سَوْدَةُ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ  

ʿUtba bin Abu Waqqas took a firm promise from his brother Saʿd bin Abu Waqqas to take the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa into his custody as he was his (i.e. ʿUtba's) son. In the year of the Conquest (of Mecca) Saʿd bin Abu Waqqas took him, and said that he was his brother's son, and his brother took a promise from him to that effect. 'Abu bin Zamʿa got up and said, "He is my brother and the son of the slave-girl of my father and was born on my father's bed." Then they both went to the Prophet ﷺ Saʿd said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! He is the son of my brother and he has taken a promise from me that I will take him." 'Abu bin Zamʿa said, "(He is) my brother and the son of my father's slave-girl and was born on my father's bed." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The boy is for you. O 'Abu bin Zamʿa." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "The son is for the bed (i.e. the man on whose bed he was born) and stones (disappointment and deprivation) for the one who has done illegal sexual intercourse." The Prophet ﷺ told his wife Sauda bint Zamʿa to screen herself from that boy as he noticed a similarity between the boy and ʿUtba. So, the boy did not see her till he died.  

أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَتَسَاوَقَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْنُ أَخِي كَانَ قَدْ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ  

(the wife of the Prophet) ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas entrusted (his son) to his brother Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas saying, "The son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa is my (illegal) son, take him into your custody." So during the year of the Conquest (of Mecca) Saʿd took the boy and said, "This is my brother's son whom my brother entrusted to me." 'Abu bin Zam's got up and said, "He is my brother and the son of the slave girl of my father and was born on my father's bed." Then both of them came to Allah's Apostle and Saʿd said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This is my brother's son whom my brother entrusted to me." Then 'Abu bin Zamʿa got up and said, "This is my brother and the son of the slave-girl of my father." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu bin Zamʿa! This boy is for you as the boy belongs to the bed (where he was born), and for the adulterer is the stone (i.e. deprivation)." Then the Prophet ﷺ said to his wife Sauda bint Zamʿa, "Screen yourself from this boy," when he saw the boy's resemblance to ʿUtba. Since then the boy did not see Sauda till he died.  

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَهِدَ إِلَى أَخِيهِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ مِنِّي فَاقْبِضْهُ إِلَيْكَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عَامُ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَهُ سَعْدٌ فَقَالَ ابْنُ أَخِي قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَامَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ أَخِي وَابْنُ أَمَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَتَسَاوَقَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْنُ أَخِي كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ ابْنَ زَمْعَةَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ  

ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas authorized his brother Saʿd to take the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa into his custody. ʿUtba said (to him). "He is my son." When Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Mecca during the Conquest (of Mecca), Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas took the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa and took him to the Prophet ﷺ ʿAbd bin Zamʿa too came along with him. Saʿd said. "This is the son of my brother and the latter has informed me that he is his son." ʿAbd bin Zamʿa said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This is my brother who is the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa and was born on his (i.e. Zam'as) bed.' Allah's Apostle looked at the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa and noticed that he, of all the people had the greatest resemblance to ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas. Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said (to ʿAbd), " He is yours; he is your brother, O ʿAbd bin Zamʿa, he was born on the bed (of your father)." (At the same time) Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (to his wife Sauda), "Veil yourself before him (i.e. the son of the slave-girl) O Sauda," because of the resemblance he noticed between him and ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas. Allah's Apostle added, "The boy is for the bed (i.e. for the owner of the bed where he was born), and stone is for the adulterer." (Ibn Shihab said, "Abu Huraira used to say that (i.e. the last statement of the Prophet in the above Hadith 596, publicly.")  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَهِدَ إِلَى أَخِيهِ سَعْدٍ أَنْ يَقْبِضَ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ وَقَالَ عُتْبَةُ إِنَّهُ ابْنِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ فِي الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَقْبَلَ مَعَهُ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ابْنُهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا أَخِي هَذَا ابْنُ زَمْعَةَ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى ابْنِ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَإِذَا أَشْبَهُ النَّاسِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ هُوَ أَخُوكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ وَكَانَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يَصِيحُ بِذَلِكَ  

ʿUtba (bin Abi Waqqas) said to his brother Saʿd, "The son of the slave girl of Zamʿa is my son, so be his custodian." So when it was the year of the Conquest of Mecca, Saʿd took that child and said, "He is my nephew, and my brother told me to be his custodian." On that, 'Abu bin Zamʿa got up and said, 'but the child is my brother, and the son of my father's slave girl as he was born on his bed." So they both went to the Prophet. Saʿd said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! (This is) the son of my brother and he told me to be his custodian." Then 'Abu bin Zamʿa said, "(But he is) my brother and the son of the slave girl of my father, born on his bed." The Prophet ﷺ said, "This child is for you. O 'Abu bin Zamʿa, as the child is for the owner of the bed, and the adulterer receives the stones." He then ordered (his wife) Sauda bint Zamʿa to cover herself before that boy as he noticed the boy's resemblance to ʿUtba. Since then the boy had never seen Sauda till he died.  

كَانَ عُتْبَةُ عَهِدَ إِلَى أَخِيهِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ مِنِّي فَاقْبِضْهُ إِلَيْكَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَهُ سَعْدٌ فَقَالَ ابْنُ أَخِي عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَامَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَتَسَاوَقَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْنُ أَخِي قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ  

Yahya said from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az-Zubayr that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, ''Utba ibn Abi Waqqas disclosed to his brother, Sad ibn Abi Waqqas, that he was the father of the son of the slave-girl of Zama, and made him promise to look after him (after his death). In the year of the conquest, Sad took him and said, 'He is the son of my brother. He covenanted with me about him.' Abd ibn Zama stood up and said, 'He is my brother and the son of my father's slave-girl. He was born on his bed.' They went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Sad said, 'Messenger of Allah! He is the son of my brother, he made a covenant with me about him.' Abd ibn Zama said, 'He is my brother and the son of my father's slave-girl and was born on my father's bed.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'He is yours, Abd ibn Zama.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A child belongs to the household (where he was born) and the adulterer is stoned.' Then he told Sawda bint Zama, 'Veil yourself from him,' since he saw in him a resemblance to Utba ibn Abi Waqqas." A'isha added, "He did not see her until he met Allah, the Mighty, the Majestic!"  

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَهِدَ إِلَى أَخِيهِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ مِنِّي فَاقْبِضْهُ إِلَيْكَ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عَامُ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَهُ سَعْدٌ وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَخِي قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَتَسَاوَقَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْنُ أَخِي قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ فِيهِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَتْ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ ﷻ  

"Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas and 'Abd bin Zam'ah disputed over a boy. Sa'd said: 'O Messenger of Allah! This is the son of my brother 'Utbah bin Abi Waqqas, who made me promise to look after him because he is his son. Look at whom he resembles.' 'Abd bin Zam'ah said: 'He is my brother who was born on my father's bed to his slave woman.' The Messenger of Allah looked to determine at whom he resembled, and saw that he resembled 'Utbah. He said: 'He is for you, O 'Abd! The child is the bed's and for the fornicator is the stone. Veil yourself from him, O Sawdah bint Zam'ah.' And he never saw Sawdah again." أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ اخْتَصَمَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ وَعَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ابْنُ أَخِي عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ ابْنُهُ انْظُرْ إِلَى شَبَهِهِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ هَذَا أَخِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِي فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى شَبَهِهِ فَرَأَى شَبَهًا بَيِّنًا بِعُتْبَةَ فَقَالَ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ وَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ ابْنَةَ زَمْعَةَ قَالَتْ فَلَمْ يَرَ سَوْدَةَ قَطُّ  

[Machine] 'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , said, "Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas made a request to his brother Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas to give him custody of his son from Walidah Zam'ah. Utbah claimed that the child was his. When the Prophet ﷺ arrived during the time of conquest, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas presented the son of Walidah Zam'ah to him. The boy resembled Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas the most. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'He is yours, O Abd ibn Zam'ah, because he was born on his father's bed.' The Prophet ﷺ also said, 'Sawdah bint Zam'ah, cover yourself from him, as he looks like Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas.'"  

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ كَانَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَهِدَ إِلَى أَخِيهِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ أَنْ يَقْبِضَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ عُتْبَةُ إِنَّهُ ابْنِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَإِذَا هو أَشْبَهُ النَّاسِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِيهِ وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ بِنْتَ زَمْعَةَ مِمَّا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ وَسَوْدَةُ بِنْتُ زَمْعَةَ»

أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةَ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَأَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخِي كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ فِيهِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةَ أَبِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ «احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ» لَمَّا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ went (to Mecca) at the time of the Conquest, Saʿd took the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and also brought 'Abu bin Zamʿa with him and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This is the son of my brother ʿUtba who authorized me to take him into my custody." 'Abu bin Zamʿa said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! He is my brother, the son of Zamʿa's slave-girl and he was born on his bed." Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa and noticed much resemblance (to ʿUtba). Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is for you, O 'Abu bin Zamʿa as he was born on the bed of your father." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then told Sauda bint Zamʿa to observe veil in the presence of the boy as he noticed the boy's resemblance to ʿUtba and Sauda was the wife of the Prophet ﷺ . عُتْبَةُ إِنَّهُ ابْنِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَ سَعْدٌ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ مَعَهُ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي عَهِدَ إِلِيَّ أَنَّهُ ابْنُهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا أَخِي ابْنُ زَمْعَةَ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى ابْنِ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَإِذَا هُوَ أَشْبَهُ النَّاسِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِيهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ بِنْتَ زَمْعَةَ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ وَسَوْدَةُ بِنْتُ زَمْعَةَ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ  

ʿUtba bin Abi Waqqas authorized his brother Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas to take the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa into his custody, telling him that the boy was his own (illegal) son. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ went (to Mecca) at the time of the Conquest, Saʿd took the son of the slave-girl of Zamʿa to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and also brought 'Abu bin Zamʿa with him and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! وَقَالَ عُتْبَةُ إِنَّهُ ابْنِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَكَّةَ زَمَنَ الْفَتْحِ أَخَذَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ابْنَ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَقْبَلَ مَعَهُ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي عَهِدَ إِلِيَّ أَبُوهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا أَخِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى ابْنِ وَلِيدَةِ زَمْعَةَ فَإِذَا أَشْبَهُ النَّاسِ بِعُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ هُوَ أَخُوكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ ؛ مِنْ أَجَلِ أَنَّهُ وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ ؛ لِمَا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ  

[Machine] He was born on his father's bed, and they went to the Messenger of Allah. Sa`d said, "O Messenger of Allah, my brother made a will concerning me." So the Messenger of Allah said, "Abd bin Zam`ah is your brother, and Ibn Waleedah is your father." Then the Messenger of Allah said to Sawdah bint Zam`ah, "Shield yourself from him when he sees you, due to the resemblance he has with `Utbah." She did not see him until she met Allah. This is the wording of the Hadith of Abu `Abdullah.  

وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِي فَتَسَاوَقَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَخِي كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلِيَّ فِيهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ أَخِي وَابْنُ وَلِيدَةِ أَبِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هُوَ لَكَ يَا عَبْدُ بْنَ زَمْعَةَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ ؓ احْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ لَمَّا رَأَى مِنْ شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَمَا رَآهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَتِ اللهَ ﷻ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ  

"عَنْ عَائِشَةَ: أَنَّ عُتْبَةَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ لأَخِيهِ سَعْدٍ: أَتَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ابْنَ جَارِيةِ زَمْعَة ابْنِي فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الفَتْحِ رَأَى سَعْدٌ الغُلَامَ فَعَرَفَهُ بِالشبه فَاعْتَقَد إِلَيْه (*) وَقَالَ: ابن أَخِي وَرَبِّ الكَعْبَةِ، فَجَاءَهُ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ فَقَالَ: بَلْ هُوَ أَخِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِي مِن جَارِيته فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! ابن أَخِي انْظُرْ إِلى شَبَهِهِ بِعُتْبَةَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ: بَلْ هُوَ أَخِي وُلِدَ عَلَى فِرَاشِ أَبِي مِنْ جَارِيَتِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ : الوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ، وَاحْتَجِبِى مِنْهُ يَا سَوْدَةُ، فَوَاللهِ مَا رَآهَا حَتَّى مَاتَ".
