Fatima bint Abi Hubaish came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ I get persistent bleeding from the uterus and do not become clean. Shall I give up my prayers?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, because it is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So when your real menses begins give up your prayers and when it has finished wash off the blood (take a bath) and offer your prayers." Hisham (the sub narrator) narrated that his father had also said, (the Prophet ﷺ told her): "Perform ablution for every prayer till the time of the next period comes."

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ ابْنَةُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِحَيْضٍ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ حَيْضَتُكِ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي قَالَ وَقَالَ أَبِي ثُمَّ تَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ حَتَّى يَجِيءَ ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتُ

Fatima bint Abi Hubaish said to Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I do not become clean (from bleeding). Shall I give up my prayers?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied: "No, because it is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So when the real menses begins give up your prayers and when it (the period) has finished wash the blood off your body (take a bath) and offer your prayers."

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلاَةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

Fatima bint Abi Hubaish used to have bleeding in between the periods, so she asked the Prophet ﷺ about it. He replied, "The bleeding is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So give up the prayers when the (real) menses begins and when it has finished, take a bath and start praying."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ كَانَتْ تُسْتَحَاضُ فَسَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَصَلِّي

Fatima bint Abi Hubaish asked the Prophet, "I got persistent bleeding (in between the periods) and do not become clean. Shall I give up prayers?" He replied, "No, this is from a blood vessel. Give up the prayers only for the days on which you usually get the menses and then take a bath and offer your prayers."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَتْ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ لاَ إِنَّ ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَكِنْ دَعِي الصَّلاَةَ قَدْرَ الأَيَّامِ الَّتِي كُنْتِ تَحِيضِينَ فِيهَا ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي وَصَلِّي

The Prophet ﷺ said to me, "Give up the prayer when your menses begin and when it has finished, wash the blood off your body (take a bath) and start praying."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

Fatimah b. Abu Hubaish came to the Apostle ﷺ and said: I am a woman whose blood keeps flowing (even after the menstruation period). I am never purified; should I, therefore, abandon prayer? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Not at all, for that is only a vein, and is not a menstruation, so when menstruation comes, abandon prayer, and when it ends wash the blood from yourself and then pray.

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

Fatimah daughter of Abu Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I am a woman who has prolonged flow of blood; I am never purified ; should I abandon prayer ? He replied: This is (due to) a vein, and not menstruation. When the menstruation begins, you should abandon prayer ; when it is finished, you should wash away the blood and pray.

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي

"Fatimah bint Abi-Hubaish came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who suffers from persistent bleeding and I do not become clean. Shall I give up Salat?' He said: 'No. That is only a bIood vessel, it is not menstruation. When your menstruation begins then leave the Salat. And when it ends, then wash the blood from you and perform Salat."

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَقَالَ تَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ حَتَّى يَجِيءَ ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتُ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ

"That is (bleeding from) a vein, so when the time of menstruation comes, stop praying, and when it goes, then wash the blood from yourself then pray."

عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ قُرَيْشٍ أَنَّهَا أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَتْ أَنَّهَا تُسْتَحَاضُ فَزَعَمَتْ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَهَا إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي

Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "I am a woman who suffers from Istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) and I never become pure. Should I stop praying?" He said: "No, that is a vein, it is not menstruation. When you period comes, stop praying, and when it goes, wash the blood from yourself and pray."

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish suffered from Istihadah and she asked the Prophet ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah, I suffer from Istihadah and I do not become pure; should I stop praying?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when it goes wash the traces of blood from yourself and perform Wudu'. That is a vein and is not menstruation.'" It was said to him: "What about Ghusl?' He ﷺ said: "no one doubts that." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said: "I do not know anyone who mentioned 'and perform Wudu' in this Hadith except Hammad bin Zaid, for some others have reported it from Hisham, and they did not mention 'and perform Wudu' in it."

قَالَتِ اسْتُحِيضَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ فَسَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ أَثَرَ الدَّمِ وَتَوَضَّئِي فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ قِيلَ لَهُ فَالْغُسْلُ قَالَ ذَلِكَ لاَ يَشُكُّ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لاَ أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا ذَكَرَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَتَوَضَّئِي غَيْرَ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَقَدْ رَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ وَتَوَضَّئِي

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not become pure. Should I stop praying? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when the same amount of time as your regular period has passed, then wash the blood from yourself and pray.'"

قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

"O Messenger of Allah, I do not become pure, so should I stop praying?" He said: "No, that is a vein." Khalid said, in what I read from him, [1] "And it is not menstruation, so when your period comes, stop praying, and when it goes, wash the blood from yourself and pray." [1] Meaning, before Hisham, from whom he narrates it.

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ قَالَ خَالِدٌ فِيمَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

"That is a vein, so when the time of menstruation comes, stop praying, and when it goes, take your bath and wash the blood from yourself then pray."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ قُرَيْشٍ أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَتْ أَنَّهَا تُسْتَحَاضُ فَزَعَمَتْ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَهَا إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي

Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "I am a woman who suffers from Istihadah and I never become pure. Should I stop praying?" قَالَتِ اسْتُحِيضَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ فَسَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحِيضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحِيضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَتَوَضَّئِي وَصَلِّي فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ قِيلَ لَهُ فَالْغُسْلُ قَالَ وَذَلِكَ لاَ يَشُكُّ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ وَتَوَضَّئِي غَيْرُ حَمَّادٍ وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not become pure. Should I stop praying?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when it has passed, then wash the blood from yourself and pray.'"

Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not become pure. Should I stop praying?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when the same amount of time as your regular period has passed, then wash the blood from yourself and pray."

قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحِيضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحِيضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

"O Messenger of Allah, I do not become pure, so should I stop praying? He said: "no, that is a vein." - (One of the narrators) Khalid said, in what I read from him - "and it is not menstruation, so when your period comes, stop praying, and when it goes, wash the blood from yourself and pray."

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ قَالَ خَالِدٌ وَفِيمَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحِيضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحِيضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلاَةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who bleeds continuously and never becomes pure, should I give up the prayer?' He said: 'No, rather that is a vein and it is not menstruation. When the time of your period comes, leave off the prayer, and when it is over, take a bath and wash the blood from yourself and perform the prayer." This is the Hadith of Waki'.

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Prophet: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who bleeds continuously and never becomes pure. Should I give up prayer?' he said: 'No, that is just a vein and is not menstruation. Do not perform prayer during the days of your period, then take a bath, and perform ablution for each prayer, even if drops of blood fall on the mat.'"

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ اجْتَنِبِي الصَّلاَةَ أَيَّامَ مَحِيضِكِ ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي وَتَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ وَإِنْ قَطَرَ الدَّمُ عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who bleeds continuously and never becomes pure, should I give up the prayer?' He said: 'No, rather that is a vein and it is not menstruation. When the time of your period comes, leave off the prayer, and when it is over, take a bath and wash the blood from yourself and perform the prayer." This is the Hadith of Waki'. [AI] "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who experiences istihadah (continuous abnormal bleeding), should I stop praying?" He said: "No, this is just a vein and not menstruation. So when your period comes, then leave prayers. And when the period has ended, wash away the blood from yourself, perform ablution, and pray." Hisham said: "My father used to say that she should first perform the initial washing, and then whatever comes after that, she is considered pure and can pray."

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحِيضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَتَوَضَّئِي وَصَلِّي» قَالَ هِشَامٌ فَكَانَ أَبِي يَقُولُ تَغْتَسِلُ غُسْلَ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ مَا يَكُونُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّهَا تَطَّهَّرُ وَتُصَلِّي

"Fatimah bint Abi-Hubaish came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who suffers from persistent bleeding and I do not become clean. Shall I give up Salat?' He said: 'No. That is only a bIood vessel, it is not menstruation. When your menstruation begins then leave the Salat. And when it ends, then wash the blood from you and perform Salat." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 125)

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ قَالَ لَا قَالَ يَحْيَى لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِالْحَيْضِ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي قَالَ يَحْيَى قُلْتُ لِهِشَامٍ أَغُسْلٌ وَاحِدٌ تَغْتَسِلُ وَتَوَضَّأُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Prophet: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who bleeds continuously and never becomes pure. Should I give up prayer?' he said: 'No, that is just a vein and is not menstruation. Do not perform prayer during the days of your period, then take a bath, and perform ablution for each prayer, even if drops of blood fall on the mat.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 624)

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ لَا اجْتَنِبِي الصَّلَاةَ أَيَّامَ مَحِيضِكِ ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي وَتَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ ثُمَّ صَلِّي وَإِنْ قَطَرَ الدَّمُ عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ وَقَدْ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ اجْلِسِي أَيَّامَ أَقْرَائِكِ ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "Fatima bint Abu Hubaysh said, 'Messenger of Allah, I never become pure - am I permitted to pray?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'That is a vein, not menstruation. So when your period approaches, leave off from the prayer, and when its grip leaves, wash the blood from yourself and pray.' "

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لاَ أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلاَةَ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكِ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلاَةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي الدَّمَ عَنْكِ وَصَلِّي

[AI] Fatimah bint Qais consulted the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have menstruation, so I am not pure. Should I leave prayer?" He responded, "That is just a vein, not menstruation. Performing a complete ablution is sufficient."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ اسْتَفْتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ لَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضِ وَغُسْلٌ وَاحِدٌ أَتَمُّ مِنَ الْوضُوءِ»

"Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not become pure. Should I stop praying? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when the same amount of time as your regular period has passed, then wash the blood from yourself and pray.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 218)

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ عَنْكِ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي»

[AI] Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I experience istihadah (continuous bleeding) for a month or two." He replied, "That is not menstruation, rather it is a type of vein discharge. When the actual menstruation begins, leave praying for the number of days you used to menstruate. Then, when it ends, perform ghusl (ritual bath) and make ablution for every prayer."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ الشَّهْرَ وَالشَّهْرَيْنِ؟ قَالَ «لَيْسَ ذَاكَ بِحَيْضٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَ الْحَيْضُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ عَدَدَ أَيَّامِكِ الَّتِي كُنْتِ تَحِيضِينَ فِيهِ فَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَتَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ»

[AI] Al-Qa'nabi narrated that Malik said, "Bakr ibn Sahl narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Yusuf, from me, Malik, that Ali ibn Al-Mubarak Al-San'aani narrated to us, from Ismail ibn Abi Uways, who narrated to me from Malik, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Umar ibn Abi Salamah, that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying in a single garment, in the house of Umm Salamah, with his arms resting on his shoulders."

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَنَا مَالِكٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهُ «رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَاضِعًا طَرَفَيْهِ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ»

Fatimah b. Abu Hubaish came to the Apostle ﷺ and said: I am a woman whose blood keeps flowing (even after the menstruation period). I am never purified; should I, therefore, abandon prayer? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Not at all, for that is only a vein, and is not a menstruation, so when menstruation comes, abandon prayer, and when it ends wash the blood from yourself and then pray. (Using translation from Muslim 333a)

قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي»

[AI] Fatima bint Abi Hubaysh used to experience istihadah (irregular bleeding outside of the menstrual cycle), so she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "It is only a vein and not menstruation. When menstruation comes, leave the prayer; and when it ends, perform ghusl (ritual bath) and pray."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ كَانَتْ تُسْتَحَاضُ فَسَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَصَلِّي»

[AI] that Fatimah b. Abu Hubaysh said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have irregular bleeding, shall I abandon the prayer?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "That is only from a vein and it is not menstruation. When the menstruation begins, then abandon the prayer, and when it ends, wash off the blood and pray."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي»

[AI] Fatimah bint Hubaysh came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said, "I am menstruating, should I leave praying?" He said, "When menstruation begins, leave praying for its duration, then wash the blood and pray."

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي مُسْتَحَاضَةٌ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِيها قَدْرَهَا ثُمَّ اغْسِلِي الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي»

[AI] Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh consulted the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I am experiencing istihada (irregular bleeding), so should I leave praying?" He replied, "That is a vein and not menstruation. When your regular period comes, leave praying, and when it ends, wash away the blood and perform ablution, for that is only a vein and not menstruation."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ اسْتَفْتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي أَسْتَحِيضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ «ذَاكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِحَيْضَةٍ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَتَوَضَّئِي فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ»

Fatimah daughter of Abu Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I am a woman who has prolonged flow of blood; I am never purified ; should I abandon prayer ? He replied: This is (due to) a vein, and not menstruation. When the menstruation begins, you should abandon prayer ; when it is finished, you should wash away the blood and pray. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 282)

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ أَثَرَ الدَّمِ وَصَلِّي»

[AI] Abdullah ibn Muslimah al-Qa'nabi narrated to me that my father, Muslimah ibn Qa'nab, narrated to me from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from Aisha, that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I experience istihadah (continuous bleeding outside the regular menstrual cycle), so should I leave the prayer?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is only a vein, not menstruation. So, when the time for menstruation comes, leave the prayer, and when it ends, wash off the blood and perform the prayer."

ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ قَعْنَبٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي»

[AI] Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh Al-Asadiyyah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to seek his consultation. She was a woman experiencing postnatal bleeding. She said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I do not experience menstruation. Should I leave the prayer because of this?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "That is only a vein and not menstruation. So when it comes, abandon the prayer, and when it stops, perform ablution to remove the blood, then pray."

جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً تُسْتَحَاضُ فَقَالَتْ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ لِهَذَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, I am experiencing Istihadah, so I am not in a state of purity. Should I leave the prayer then?" He said, "Your condition is not menstruation, it is only bleeding. So when your menstruation begins, leave the prayer, and when it ends or stops, cleanse yourself from the blood and pray."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ إِذًا؟ قَالَ إِنَّ تِيكَ لَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ إِنَّمَا عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا وَلَّتْ أَوْ قَالَ أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي

"That is a vein, so when the time of menstruation comes, stop praying, and when it goes, take your bath and wash the blood from yourself then pray." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 349)

عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ قُرَيْشٍ أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَتْ لَهَا أَنَّهَا تُسْتَحَاضُ فَزَعَمَتْ فَاطِمَةُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ أَثَرَ الدَّمِ ثُمَّ صَلِّي»

"That is (bleeding from) a vein, so when the time of menstruation comes, stop praying, and when it goes, then wash the blood from yourself then pray." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 201)

أَنَّهَا أَتَتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَتْ أَنَّهَا تُسْتَحَاضُ فَزَعَمَتْ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, I am not in a state of purification, so should I abandon prayer?" He said, "It is only menstruation." Khaled said in what I have read to him, "It is not considered as menstruation. So when the menstruation starts, leave the prayer, and when it ends, wash off the blood and then perform the prayer." Abu Abdur Rahman said, this hadith is narrated by Malik from Hisham from his father from Aisha, and it is the most authentic narration regarding menstruation. Also, Sulaiman narrated from Umm Salama, he did not hear it from Umm Salama, but there was a man between them.

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ» قَالَ خَالِدٌ فِيمَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ «وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثم صَلِّي» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدِيثُ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَصَحُّ مَا يَأْتِي فِي الْمُسْتَحَاضَةِ وَحَدِيثُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ مِنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ بَيْنَهُمَا رَجُلٌ

[AI] That Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh asked the Prophet ﷺ for a ruling on menstruation and said, "I am experiencing Istihadah (abnormal bleeding) and I do not become pure. Should I leave the prayer?" He replied, "This is only a vein, it is not menstrual bleeding. So when the actual menses begin, leave the prayer and when it ends, wash the blood traces and perform ablution, then pray. This is only abnormal bleeding, it is not menstruation."

أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ اسْتَفْتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ أَثَرَ الدَّمَ وَتَوَضَّئِي فَصَلِّي فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ

Fatima bint Abi Hubaish said to Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I do not become clean (from bleeding). Shall I give up my prayers?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied: "No, because it is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So when the real menses begins give up your prayers and when it (the period) has finished wash the blood off your body (take a bath) and offer your prayers." (Using translation from Bukhārī 306)

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي الدَّمَ عَنْكِ وَصَلِّي

[AI] Fatimah bint Abu Hubaysh came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I am a woman experiencing istihadah (continuous bleeding outside the menstrual period), so should I leave the prayer?" He replied, "No, that is only a vein and not menstruation. When the menstruation comes, then leave the prayer, and when it ends, wash the blood off yourself and pray." And Abu Al-Hassan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan informed us, and Ahmad ibn Ubayd As-Saffar narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Al-Abbas Al-Muaddib narrated to us, and Ahmad ibn Yunus narrated to us, and Zuhair ibn Muawiya narrated to us, and Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to us, and Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz narrated to us, and Abu Ali Al-Husayn ibn Ali Al-Hafiz informed me, and Al-Hassan ibn Sufyan narrated to us, and Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, and Waki narrated to us from Hisham ibn Urwah, and he mentioned it with a similar chain of narration. [AI] She said, she said: "Oh Messenger of Allah, I am not pure. Should I leave prayer?" The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to her: "That is just a vein, it is not menstruation. When menstruation begins, leave prayer. And when its duration ends, wash off the blood and perform prayer."

[AI] Narrated Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , that Fatimah, the daughter of Abu Hubaysh, used to have irregular menstrual bleeding, so she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. He said, "That is only a vein and it is not menstruation. When the menstruation comes, abandon the prayer, and when it ceases, perform Ghusl (ritual bathing) and pray."

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ كَانَتْ تُسْتَحَاضُ فَسَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الْحَيْضَةُ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْتَسِلِي وَصَلِّي

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, I am not in a state of purity. Should I still perform the prayer?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "That is only a vein and not menstruation. So when it comes, stop praying, and when its duration ends, wash away the blood and pray." And the wording for Ismail is...

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ فَاتْرُكِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا ذَهَبَ قَدْرُهَا فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ وَصَلِّي وَاللَّفْظُ لِإِسْمَاعِيلَ

Fatima bint Abi Hubaish came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ I get persistent bleeding from the uterus and do not become clean. Shall I give up my prayers?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, because it is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So when your real menses begins give up your prayers and when it has finished wash off the blood (take a bath) and offer your prayers." Hisham (the sub narrator) narrated that his father had also said, (the Prophet ﷺ told her): "Perform ablution for every prayer till the time of the next period comes." جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حُبَيْشٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُسْتَحَاضُ فَلَا أَطْهُرُ أَفَأَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ لَا إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَ بِالْحَيْضِ فَإِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ حَيْضَتُكِ فَدَعِي الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ فَاغْسِلِي عَنْكِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ صَلِّي قَالَ قَالَ أَبِي ثُمَّ تَوَضَّئِي لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ حَتَّى يَجِيءَ ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتُ

Fatimah daughter of Abu Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I am a woman who has prolonged flow of blood; I am never purified ; should I abandon prayer ? He replied: This is (due to) a vein, and not menstruation. When the menstruation begins, you should abandon prayer ; when it is finished, you should wash away the blood and pray.
