Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is better for a man to fill his belly with oozing pus than to fill it with poetry."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُلٍ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "It is better for one of you to fill his belly with pus than to fill it with poetry."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is better for a man to fill the inside of his body with pus than to fill it with poetry."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ; said, "It is better for anyone of you that the inside of his body be filled with pus which may consume his body, than it be filled with poetry."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُلٍ قَيْحًا يَرِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

It is better for a man's belly to be stuffed with pus which corrodes it than to stuff (one's mind) with frivolous poetry. Abu Bakr has reported it with a slight variation of wording.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيْحًا يَرِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِلاَّ أَنَّ حَفْصًا لَمْ يَقُلْ يَرِيهِ

It is better for the belly of any one of you to be stuffed with pus rather than to stuff (one's mind) with poetry.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا يَرِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

from his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "It is better that one of you fill his insides with puss than to fill it with poetry."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "It is better that one of you fill his insides with puss than to fill it with poetry."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا يَرِيهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ سَعْدٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ

"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا إِلاَّ أَنَّ حَفْصًا لَمْ يَقُلْ يَرِيَهُ

"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا أَوْ دَمًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا»

"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3760)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "It is better for a person to have their inner self filled with pus than to have it filled with hair."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَأَنْ يَكُونَ جَوْفُ الْمَرْءِ مَمْلُوءًا قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَمْلُوءًا شِعْرًا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ; said, "It is better for anyone of you that the inside of his body be filled with pus which may consume his body, than it be filled with poetry." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6155)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيْحًا يَرِيهِ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لِأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رَوَاهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ مَوْقُوفًا وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَسْنَدَهُ إِلَّا خَلَّادُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأن يمتلئ جوف أحدكم قيحا خيرا له من أن يمتلئ شعرا وَهَذَا الحديثُ لاَ نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عن أبي صالح إلا أبو جعفر الرازي

"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3760)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لِأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا»

[AI] "That a man be filled with pus is better for him than to be filled with hair."

«لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ الرَّجُلُ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying, "It is better for one of you to fill his stomach with pus from his own wound, rather than to fill it with hair."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لِأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنْ عَانَتِهِ إِلَى لَهَاتِهِ قَيْحًا يَتَخَضْخَضُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is better for one of you to have his stomach filled with pus rather than be filled with hair."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is better for a man's belly to be filled with pus that he can see, rather than to be filled with hair."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيْحًا يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا

"لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أحَدِكُم قِيحًا خَيرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا".

حم، خ، عن ابن عمر، حم، م عن أبي سعيد، ط، ت عن سعيد بن أبي وقاص،

"لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُل قَيحًا حَتَّى يرِيه خَيرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أنْ يَمْتَلئَ شِعْرًا".

"لأنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيحًا أوْ دَمًا خَيرٌ مِنْ أنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا مما هَجَيَتْ (*) به".

"لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أحَدِكُمْ مِنْ عَانَتِهِ إِلى لهاتِهِ (*) قَيحًا يَتَخَضْخَضُ خَيرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلئ شِعْرًا".

"لأَنْ يَمْتَلئَ مَا بَينَ لَبَّتِكَ إِلَى عَانتِكَ قَيحًا خيرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلئَ شِعْرًا".

"عن عمرَ قال: لأَن يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرجلِ قَيْحًا خيرٌ من أن يَمْتلئَ شِعْرًا".

"عَنْ عُمَرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ: أَنَّ شَاعِرًا كَانَ فِى عَهْدِ عُمَر يَرْوِى شِعْرًا كَبِيرًا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ (جَوْفُ أحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْر مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ) شِعْرًا".

" عَنْ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ: لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوفُ أَحدِكُم قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ خَيْرٌ لَه مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِىَء شِعْرًا ".

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: لأَنْ يَمْتَلِى جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قِيحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِىَ شِعْرًا".

"عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِن أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا".
