In the year of the Conquest of Mecca, the tribe of Khuzaʿa killed a man from the tribe of Bani Laith in revenge for a killed person, belonging to them. They informed the Prophet ﷺ about it. So he rode his Rahila (she-camel for riding) and addressed the people saying, "Allah held back the killing from Mecca. (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether the Prophet ﷺ said "elephant or killing," as the Arabic words standing for these words have great similarity in shape), but He (Allah) let His Apostle and the believers over power the infidels of Mecca. Beware! (Mecca is a sanctuary) Verily! Fighting in Mecca was not permitted for anyone before me nor will it be permitted for anyone after me. It (war) in it was made legal for me for few hours or so on that day. No doubt it is at this moment a sanctuary, it is not allowed to uproot its thorny shrubs or to uproot its trees or to pick up its Luqat (fallen things) except by a person who will look for its owner (announce it publicly). And if somebody is killed, then his closest relative has the right to choose one of the two-- the blood money (Diyya) or retaliation having the killer killed. In the meantime a man from Yemen came and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Get that written for me." The Prophet ﷺ ordered his companions to write that for him. Then a man from Quraish said, "Except Al-Idhkhir (a type of grass that has good smell) O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as we use it in our houses and graves." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir i.e. Al-Idhkhir is allowed to be plucked."

أَنَّ خُزَاعَةَ قَتَلُوا رَجُلاً مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ عَامَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ بِقَتِيلٍ مِنْهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ فَأُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ فَخَطَبَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْقَتْلَ أَوِ الْفِيلَ شَكَّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا حَلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لاَ يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ تُلْتَقَطُ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ فَمَنْ قُتِلَ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُعْقَلَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقَادَ أَهْلُ الْقَتِيلِ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي فُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُقَالُ يُقَادُ بِالْقَافِ فَقِيلَ لأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَىُّ شَىْءٍ كَتَبَ لَهُ قَالَ كَتَبَ لَهُ هَذِهِ الْخُطْبَةَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has made Mecca a sanctuary (sacred place) and it was a sanctuary before me and will be so after me. It was made legal for me (to fight in it) for a few hours of the day. None is allowed to uproot its thorny shrubs or to cut its trees or to chase its game or to pick up its fallen things except by a person who announces it publicly." On that Al-Abbas said (to the Prophet), "Except Al- Idhkhir for our goldsmiths and for our graves." And so the Prophet ﷺ added, "Except Al-Idhkhir. " And Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir for our graves and houses." And Ibn ʿAbbas said, "For their goldsmiths and houses."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ مَكَّةَ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ لاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ تُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُعَرِّفٍ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ ؓ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ لِصَاغَتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ وَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا وَقَالَ أَبَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مِثْلَهُ وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَبُيُوتِهِمْ

"The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah has made Mecca, a sanctuary, so it was a sanctuary before me and will continue to be a sanctuary after me. It was made legal for me (i.e. I was allowed to fight in it) for a few hours of a day. It is not allowed to uproot its shrubs or to cut its trees, or to chase (or disturb) its game, or to pick up its luqata (fallen things) except by a person who would announce that (what he has found) publicly.' Al-ʿAbbas said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except Al-Idhkhir (a kind of grass) (for it is used) by our goldsmiths and for our graves.' The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'Except Al-Idhkhir.' " ʿIkrima said, 'Do you know what "chasing or disturbing" the game means? It means driving it out of the shade to occupy its place."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ لاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ تُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُعَرِّفٍ وَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ لِصَاغَتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ وَعَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا لاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا هُوَ أَنْ يُنَحِّيَهُ مِنَ الظِّلِّ يَنْزِلُ مَكَانَهُ

On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Prophet ﷺ said, "There is no more emigration (from Mecca) but Jihad and intentions, and whenever you are called for Jihad, you should go immediately. No doubt, Allah has made this place (Mecca) a sanctuary since the creation of the heavens and the earth and will remain a sanctuary till the Day of Resurrection as Allah has ordained its sanctity. Fighting was not permissible in it for anyone before me, and even for me it was allowed only for a portion of a day. So, it is a sanctuary with Allah's sanctity till the Day of Resurrection. Its thorns should not be uprooted and its game should not be chased; and its luqata (fallen things) should not be picked up except by one who would announce that publicly, and its vegetation (grass etc.) should not be cut." Al-ʿAbbas said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except Al-Idhkhir, (for it is used by their blacksmiths and for their domestic purposes)." So, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَوْمَ افْتَتَحَ مَكَّةَ لاَ هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا فَإِنَّ هَذَا بَلَدٌ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَحِلَّ الْقِتَالُ فِيهِ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَمْ يَحِلَّ لِي إِلاَّ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلاَّ مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ قَالَ قَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah made Mecca a sanctuary and it was neither permitted for anyone before, nor will it be permitted for anyone after me (to fight in it). And fighting in it was made legal for me for a few hours of a day only. None is allowed to uproot its thorny shrubs or to cut down its trees or to chase its game or to pick up its Luqata (fallen things) except by a person who would announce it publicly."

ʿAbbas bin ʿAbdul-Muttalib requested the Prophet, "Except Al-Idhkhir, for our goldsmiths and for the roofs of our houses." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir." ʿIkrima said, "Do you know what is meant by chasing its game? It is to drive it out of the shade and sit in its place." Khalid said, "(ʿAbbas said: Al-Idhkhir) for our goldsmiths and our graves."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ وَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا حَلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُعَرِّفٍ

وَقَالَ عَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ لِصَاغَتِنَا وَلِسُقُفِ بُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا هُوَ أَنْ تُنَحِّيَهُ مِنَ الظِّلِّ وَتَنْزِلَ مَكَانَهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ لِصَاغَتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا

When Allah gave victory to His Apostle over the people of Mecca, Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up among the people and after glorifying Allah, said, "Allah has prohibited fighting in Mecca and has given authority to His Apostle and the believers over it, so fighting was illegal for anyone before me, and was made legal for me for a part of a day, and it will not be legal for anyone after me. Its game should not be chased, its thorny bushes should not be uprooted, and picking up its fallen things is not allowed except for one who makes public announcement for it, and he whose relative is murdered has the option either to accept a compensation for it or to retaliate." Al-ʿAbbas said, "Except Al-Idhkhir, for we use it in our graves and houses." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir." Abu Shah, a Yemenite, stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Get it written for me." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write it for Abu Shah." (The sub-narrator asked Al-Auza'i): What did he mean by saying, "Get it written, O Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "The speech which he had heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."

لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَإِنَّهَا لاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَإِنَّهَا لاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي فَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهْوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُفْدَى وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقِيدَ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ لِقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَقَامَ أَبُو شَاهٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي شَاهٍ قُلْتُ لِلأَوْزَاعِيِّ مَا قَوْلُهُ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَذِهِ الْخُطْبَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "There is no migration now, but there is Jihad (i.e.. holy battle) and good intentions. And when you are called for Jihad, you should come out at once" Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "Allah has made this town a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth. So, it is a sanctuary by Allah's Decree till the Day of Resurrection. Fighting in it was not legal for anyone before me, and it was made legal for me only for an hour by daytime. So, it (i.e. Mecca) is a sanctuary by Allah's Decree till the Day of Resurrection. Its thorny bushes should not be cut, and its game should not be chased, its fallen property (i.e. Luqata) should not be picked up except by one who will announce it publicly; and its grass should not be uprooted," On that Al-ʿAbbas said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except the Idhkhir, because it is used by the goldsmiths and by the people for their houses." On that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except the Idhkhir."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ لاَ هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا وَقَالَ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فَهْوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَحِلَّ الْقِتَالُ فِيهِ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَمْ يَحِلَّ لِي إِلاَّ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ فَهْوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلاَّ مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهُ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ قَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up on the day of the Conquest of Mecca and said, "Allah has made Mecca a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth, and it will remain a sanctuary by virtue of the sanctity Allah has bestowed on it till the Day of Resurrection. It (i.e. fighting in it) was not made lawful to anyone before me!, nor will it be made lawful to anyone after me, and it was not made lawful for me except for a short period of time. Its game should not be chased, nor should its trees be cut, nor its vegetation or grass uprooted, not its Luqata (i.e. Most things) picked up except by one who makes a public announcement about it." Al-Abbas bin ʿAbdul Muttalib said, "Except the Idhkhir, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as it is indispensable for blacksmiths and houses." On that, the Prophet ﷺ kept quiet and then said, "Except the Idhkhir as it is lawful to cut."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَامَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فَهْىَ حَرَامٌ بِحَرَامِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَلَمْ تَحْلِلْ لِي إِلاَّ سَاعَةً مِنَ الدَّهْرِ لاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ لاَ بُدَّ مِنْهُ لِلْقَيْنِ وَالْبُيُوتِ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ حَلاَلٌ وَعَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوِ هَذَا رَوَاهُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

Verily! Fighting in Mecca was not permitted for anybody before me, nor will it be permitted for anybody after me; It was permitted for me only for a while (an hour or so) of that day. No doubt! It is at this moment a sanctuary; its thorny shrubs should not be uprooted; its trees should not be cut down; and its Luqata (fallen things) should not be picked up except by the one who would look for its owner. And if somebody is killed, his closest relative has the right to choose one of two things, i.e., either the Blood money or retaliation by having the killer killed." Then a man from Yemen, called Abu Shah, stood up and said, "Write that) for me, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (to his companions), "Write that for Abu Shah." Then another man from Quraish got up, saying, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except Al- Idhkhir (a special kind of grass) as we use it in our houses and for graves." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Except Al-idhkkir."

أَنَّهُ عَامَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ قَتَلَتْ خُزَاعَةُ رَجُلاً مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ بِقَتِيلٍ لَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أَلاَ وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لاَ يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ سَاقِطَتَهَا إِلاَّ مُنْشِدٌ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهْوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا يُودَى وَإِمَّا يُقَادُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي شَاهٍ ثُمَّ قَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّمَا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ وَتَابَعَهُ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ شَيْبَانَ فِي الْفِيلِ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ الْقَتْلَ وَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُقَادَ أَهْلُ الْقَتِيلِ

There is no Hijra (emigration) but only Jihad and good intention; and when you are called to battle, then go forth. He also said on the Day of Victory over Mecca: Allah made this town sacred on the day He created the earth and the heavens; so it is -sacred by the sacred- ness conferred on it by Allah until the Day of Resurrection and fighting in it was not lawful to anyone before me, and it was made lawful for me only during an hour on one day, for it is sacred by the sacredness conferred on it by Allah until the Day of Resurrection. Its thorns are not to be cut, its game is not to be molested, and the things dropped are to be picked up only by one who makes a public announcement of it, and its fresh herbage is not to be cut. Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) said: Messenger of Allah, exception may be made in case of rush, for it is useful for their blacksmiths and for their houses. He (the Holy Prophet) conceding the suggestion of 'Abbas) said: Except rush.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ لاَ هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا وَقَالَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَحِلَّ الْقِتَالُ فِيهِ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَمْ يَحِلَّ لِي إِلاَّ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ إِلاَّ مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

Verily Allah held back the elephants from Mecca and gave the domination of it to His Messenger and believers, and it (this territory) was not violable to anyone before me and it was made violable to me for an hour of a day, and it shall not be violable to anyone after me. So neither molest the game, nor weed out thorns from it. And it is not lawful for anyone to pick up a thing dropped but one who makes public announcement of it. And it a relative of anyone is killed he is entitled to opt for one of two things. Either he should be paid blood-money or he can take life as (a just retribution). 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) said: Messenger of Allah, but Idhkhir (a kind of herbage), for we use it for our graves and for our houses, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: With the exception of Idhkhir. A person known as Abu Shah, one of the people of Yemen, stood up and said: Messenger of Allah, (kindly) write it for me. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said I Write it for Abu Shah. Walid said: I asked al-Auzai': What did his saying mean:" Write it for me, Messenger of Allah"? He said: This very address that he had heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ ﷻ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّهَا لَنْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَإِنَّهَا لَنْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي فَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُفْدَى وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقْتَلَ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي قُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَقَامَ أَبُو شَاهٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي شَاهٍ قَالَ الْوَلِيدُ فَقُلْتُ لِلأَوْزَاعِيِّ مَا قَوْلُهُ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَذِهِ الْخُطْبَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

The people of the Khuza'ah tribe killed a man of the tribe of Laith in the Year of Victory as a retaliation for one whom they had killed (whom the people of the tribe of Laith had killed). It was reported to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He mounted his camel and delivered this address: Verily Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, held back the Ele- phants from Mecca, and gave its domination to His Messenger and believers. Behold, it was not violable for anyone before me and it will not be violable for anyone after me. Behold, it was made violable for me for an hour of a day; and at this very hour it has again been made inviolable (for me as well as for others). So its thorns are not to be cut, its trees are not to be lopped, and (no one is allowed to) pick up a thing dropped, but the one who makes an announcement of it. And one whose fellow is killed is allowed to opt between two alternatives: either he should receive blood-money or get the life of the (murderer) in return. He (the narrator said): A person from the Yemen, who was called Abu Shah, came to him and said: Messenger of Allah, write it down for me, whereupon he (Messenger of Allah) said: Write it down for Abu Shah. One of the persons from among the Quraish also said: Except Idhkhir, for we use it in our houses ant our graves. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Except Idhkhir.

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ خُزَاعَةَ قَتَلُوا رَجُلاً مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ عَامَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ بِقَتِيلٍ مِنْهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ فَأُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ فَخَطَبَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَنْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنَ النَّهَارِ أَلاَ وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لاَ يُخْبَطُ شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ سَاقِطَتَهَا إِلاَّ مُنْشِدٌ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُعْطَى يَعْنِي الدِّيَةَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقَادَ أَهْلُ الْقَتِيلِ قَالَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي شَاهٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

Abu Hurairah said “When Allah, the Exalted, granted the conquest of Makkah to his Apostle, the Prophet ﷺ stood among them(the people) and praised Allaah and extolled Him. He then said, Verily Allaah stopped the Elephant from Makkah, and gave His Apostle and the believers sway upon it and it has been made lawful for me only for one hour on one day then it will remain sacred till the Day of Resurrection. Its trees are not to be cut, its game is not to be molested and the things dropped there are to be picked up only by one who publicly announces it. ‘Abbas or Al ‘Abbas suggested “Apostle of Allaah ﷺ except the rush(idhkir) for it is useful for our graves and our houses. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said “Except the rush.” Abu Dawud said “Ibn Al Musaffa added on the authority of Al Walid Abu Shah a man from the people of the Yemen stood and said “Give me in writing, Apostle of Allaah ﷺ”. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said “Give in writing to Abu Shah. I said to Al Awza’i “What does the statement mean? Give Abu Shah in writing?” He said “This was an address which he heard from the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ.”

لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيهِمْ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثُمَّ هِيَ حَرَامٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ فَقَامَ عَبَّاسٌ أَوْ قَالَ قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

"The Messenger of Allah said on the day of the conquest: 'Allah made this land sacred the day He created the Heavens and the Earth, so it is sacred by the Decree of Allah until the day of Resurrection. Its thorny shrubs are not to be cut, or its game disturbed, or its lost property to be picked up, except by the one who will announce it publicly, or is its green grass to be uprooted or cut.' Al-Abbas said: O Messenger of Allah! Except Ikhkhir.'" And he said something that meant: "Except Ikhkhir."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ هَذَا الْبَلَدُ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلاَّ مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهُ قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

"This Makkah was made sacred by Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, the day He created the heavens and the Earth. Fighting therein was not permitted for any one before me or after me rather it was permitted for me for a short part of a day. At this moment it is a sanctuary that is sacred by the decree of Allah until the Day of Resurrection. Its green grass is not to be uprooted or cut, its trees are not to be cut and its game is not to be distributed. IT is not permissible to pick up its lost property except by one who will announce it publicly." Al-Abbas who was a man of experience, stood up and said: "Except Idkhair, for we use it for our raves and houses." He said: "Except Idhkhir."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ هَذِهِ مَكَّةُ حَرَّمَهَا اللَّهُ ﷻ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلاَ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَهِيَ سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ بِحَرَامِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا وَلاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ فَقَامَ الْعَبَّاسُ وَكَانَ رَجُلاً مُجَرِّبًا فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِبُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

“I heard the Prophet ﷺ delivering a sermon in the Year of the Conquest (of Makkah), and he said: ‘O people, Allah made Makkah sacred the day He created the heavens and the earth, and it is sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Its trees are not to be cut, its game is not to be disturbed, and its lost property is not to be taken except by one who will announce it.’‘Abbas said: ‘Except for Idhkhir (a kind of fragrant grass), for it is (used) for houses and graves.’ The messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Except for Idhkhir.’”

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فَهِيَ حَرَامٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يَأْخُذُ لُقَطَتَهَا إِلاَّ مُنْشِدٌ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِلْبُيُوتِ وَالْقُبُورِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ

[AI] "It was the year when Mecca was conquered, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said, 'Indeed, Allah prevented the people of Mecca from the elephant, and He sent His Messenger ﷺ and the believers against them. Behold, Mecca was not made lawful for anyone before me, and it will not be made lawful for anyone after me. Indeed, this hour of mine is sacred, its sanctity is not to be violated, its trees should not be cut, and its fallen leaves should not be picked up, except by one who calls out (to inform people about the lost items)."

أَنَّهُ عَامَ فُتِحَتْ مَكَّةُ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلَا وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أَلَا وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا تُلْتَقَطُ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ»

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Verily, Allah has forbidden Makkah to all before me and to all after me. It has been made lawful only for me for an hour of the day that is not followed by anything else. Its vegetation may not be uprooted, its trees may not be cut, its game may not be scared away, and its fallen animals may not be picked up except by a man who makes a public announcement about it. Al-Abbas said: Except for the ithkhir, for our blacksmiths' shop and our graves."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَلا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلاهَا وَلا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلا يُنَفَّرُصَيْدُهَا وَلا تُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلا لِمُعَرِّفٍ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلا الْإِذْخِرَ لِصَاغَتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا قَالَ إِلا الْإِذْخِرَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the Conquest of Mecca: "Indeed, this city is sacred, which Allah made sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth. It is prohibited and forbidden by Allah until the Day of Resurrection. No one is allowed to shed blood in it except for me, and it is not permissible for anyone after me until the Hour is established. And the only time it is permissible for me is an hour during the day. It is prohibited and forbidden by Allah Almighty until the Hour is established. Its thorns should not be uprooted, its grass should not be uprooted, its game should not be disturbed, and its prey should not be taken except by someone who is noble. Abbas, who was from the people of Mecca, said: "Messenger of Allah, they have a need for it, for it is theirs (their provision) for both graves and homes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Except for the izhar."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ حَرَامٌ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ مَا أُحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ فِيهِ الْقَتْلُ غَيْرِي وَلا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي فِيهِ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ وَمَا أُحِلَّ لِي فِيهِ إِلا سَاعَةٌ مِنَ النَّهَارِ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ ﷻ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ وَلا يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلا يُخْتَلَى خَلاهُ وَلا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلا تُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهُ إِلا لِمُعَرِّفٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَلَدِ قَدْ عَلِمَ الَّذِي لَا بُدَّ لَهُمْ مِنْهُ إِلا الْإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ لَهُمْ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لِلقُبُورِ وَالْبُيُوتِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلا الْإِذْخِرَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "Indeed, this city is sacred. Allah has forbidden violence within it before my arrival, and for me, it is permissible for a brief period. It remains forbidden by Allah's prohibition until the Day of Judgment. Its game cannot be driven away, its thorns cannot be removed, and its prey cannot be caught except by the one who identifies it. No one should be expelled from it. Abbas said, 'O Messenger of Allah, except for the wild donkey, for it belongs to their houses and they look after it.' The Prophet replied, 'Except for the wild donkey. There is no migration, only jihad and intention. So when you are called, respond.'"

لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِيهِمْ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثُمَّ هِيَ حَرَامٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا تَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يَفْدِيَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يَقْتُلَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اكْتُبُوا لِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اكْتُبُوا لِأَبِي شَاةٍ فَقَامَ عَبَّاسٌ أَوْ قَالَ قَالَ عَبَّاسٌ يا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ

[AI] When Allah, the Most High, opened Mecca for His Messenger ﷺ , these two men from the Banu Layth tribe killed a man with pre-Islamic blood-money rights. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it, so he stood up and said, "Verily, Allah, the Most High, has restricted the conquest of Mecca from the people and has bestowed it upon His Messenger and the believers. It is not permissible for anyone before me or after me. It was only made permissible for me for an hour during the day, and this hour has passed. Then, it is haram (forbidden), and its trees are not to be cut, its thorns are not to be broken, and its fallen branches are not to be picked up except by a reciter. And whoever is killed for it, he is the best of two options: either he is killed or he pays the blood money." Then, a man from Yemen known as Abu Shah stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, write it for me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write it for Abu Shah." Then, Abbas stood up and said, "Except for the ithkur (a type of tree), for we make it in our graves and in our houses." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Except for the ithkur."

لَمَّا فَتْحَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا عَلَى رَسُولِهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَتَلَتْ هُذَيْلُ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ بِقَتِيلٍ كَانَ لَهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا حَبَسَ الْفِيلَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَلَا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ ثُمَّ هِيَ حَرَامٌ لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلَا يُلْتَقَطُ سَاقِطُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يَقْتُلَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يَفْدِيَ» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اكْتُبُوا لِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اكْتُبُوا لِأَبِي شَاهٍ» ثُمَّ قَامَ الْعَبَّاسُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي قُبُورِنَا وَفِي بُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has made Mecca forbidden and it is not permissible for anyone before me or after me. It was only made permissible for me for a single hour of the day, and then it became forbidden by the sanctity of Allah. Its trees cannot be cut, its game cannot be hunted, and no one is allowed to spend the night there except with permission." Al-Abbas said, "Except for al-Idhkhir (a type of plant)?" He replied, "Except for al-Idhkhir."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ وَلَمْ يَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ ثُمَّ هِيَ حَرَامٌ بحرمِ اللهِ لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا» فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ فَقَالَ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ»

[AI] "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Mecca's conquest, 'Indeed, Allah, may His remembrance be glorified, made Mecca sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth. It is sacred by the sanctity of Allah until the Day of Judgment. Its game should not be disturbed, its trees should not be cut, its grass should not be uprooted, and its prey should not be chased except by a skilled poet.' So Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib said, 'Except for the incense, O Messenger of Allah, the needs of the people and homes require it.' The Prophet ﷺ remained silent for a while and then said, 'Except for incense, for it is permissible.'"

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ «إِنَّ اللهَ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فَهِيَ حَرَامٌ بِحَرَامِ اللهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ» فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ لِلْقَيْنِ وَالْبُيُوتِ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَاعَةً فَقَالَ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ إِنَّهُ حَلَالٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has prohibited Mecca, and it is not permissible for anyone before me or after me. It was only made permissible for me for a period of time during the day that cannot be surpassed, its thorny bushes cannot be uprooted, its prey cannot be frightened away, and its lost items cannot be picked up except by someone who announces it." Abbas said, "O Messenger of Allah, except for the Izdir for our goldsmiths?" He said, "Except for the Izdir."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَلَا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِيَ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا يُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُعَرِّفٍ» قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ لِصَاغَتِنَا قَالَ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ»

"The Messenger of Allah said on the day of the conquest: 'Allah made this land sacred the day He created the Heavens and the Earth, so it is sacred by the Decree of Allah until the day of Resurrection. Its thorny shrubs are not to be cut, or its game disturbed, or its lost property to be picked up, except by the one who will announce it publicly, or is its green grass to be uprooted or cut.' Al-Abbas said: O Messenger of Allah! Except Ikhkhir.'" And he said something that meant: "Except Ikhkhir." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2874)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ «هَذَا الْبَلَدُ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلَا يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلَّا مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهُ» وَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا قَالَ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ

"This Makkah was made sacred by Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, the day He created the heavens and the Earth. Fighting therein was not permitted for any one before me or after me rather it was permitted for me for a short part of a day. At this moment it is a sanctuary that is sacred by the decree of Allah until the Day of Resurrection. Its green grass is not to be uprooted or cut, its trees are not to be cut and its game is not to be distributed. IT is not permissible to pick up its lost property except by one who will announce it publicly." Al-Abbas who was a man of experience, stood up and said: "Except Idkhair, for we use it for our raves and houses." He said: "Except Idhkhir." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2892)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «هَذِهِ مَكَّةُ حَرَّمَهَا اللهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ لَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَا تَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَهِيَ مِنْ سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ بِحَرَامِ اللهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا تَحِلُّ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ» فَقَامَ الْعَبَّاسُ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا مُجَرِّبًا فَقَالَ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِبُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا وَقُيُونِنَا فَقَالَ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ»

When Allah gave victory to His Apostle over the people of Mecca, Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up among the people and after glorifying Allah, said, "Allah has prohibited fighting in Mecca and has given authority to His Apostle and the believers over it, so fighting was illegal for anyone before me, and was made legal for me for a part of a day, and it will not be legal for anyone after me. Its game should not be chased, its thorny bushes should not be uprooted, and picking up its fallen things is not allowed except for one who makes public announcement for it, and he whose relative is murdered has the option either to accept a compensation for it or to retaliate." Al-ʿAbbas said, "Except Al-Idhkhir, for we use it in our graves and houses." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir." Abu Shah, a Yemenite, stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Get it written for me." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write it for Abu Shah." (The sub-narrator asked Al-Auza'i): What did he mean by saying, "Get it written, O Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "The speech which he had heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2434)

لَمَّا افْتُتِحَتْ مَكَّةُ قَتَلَتْ هُذَيْلٌ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ بِقَتِيلٍ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَنْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي وَإِنَّمَا أُحِلَّتْ لِيَ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلَا يُلْتَقَطُ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلَّا مُنْشِدٌ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا يُقَادُ وَإِمَّا يُفْدِيَ» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اكْتُبُوا لِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اكْتُبُوا لِأَبِي شَاهٍ» ثُمَّ قَامَ الْعَبَّاسُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي مَسَاكِنِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "There is no migration now, but there is Jihad (i.e.. holy battle) and good intentions. And when you are called for Jihad, you should come out at once" Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "Allah has made this town a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth. So, it is a sanctuary by Allah's Decree till the Day of Resurrection. Fighting in it was not legal for anyone before me, and it was made legal for me only for an hour by daytime. So, it (i.e. Mecca) is a sanctuary by Allah's Decree till the Day of Resurrection. Its thorny bushes should not be cut, and its game should not be chased, its fallen property (i.e. Luqata) should not be picked up except by one who will announce it publicly; and its grass should not be uprooted," On that Al-ʿAbbas said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except the Idhkhir, because it is used by the goldsmiths and by the people for their houses." On that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except the Idhkhir." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3189)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ لَا هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ فَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهَا إِلَّا مَنْ عَرَّفْهَا فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ ؓ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا الْإِذْخَرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Mecca, "Verily, this city is sacred. Allah has made it forbidden [to fight] and it was not permissible to kill anyone in it before me. However, it has been made permissible for me for only a short time. It is sacred as Allah has forbidden it until the Day of Resurrection. Its game is not to be scared away, its thorns are not to be cut, and its fallen things are not to be picked up except by the one who recognizes them. Its trees are not to be damaged except the Izdir tree, as it belongs to their homes." Then Al-Abbas said, "Except the Izdhar tree, as it belongs to their homes."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ حَرَامٌ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ لَمْ يَحِلَّ فِيهِ الْقَتْلُ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلَا يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلَّا مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهُ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ فَقَالَ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ

In the year of the Conquest of Mecca, the tribe of Khuzaʿa killed a man from the tribe of Bani Laith in revenge for a killed person, belonging to them. They informed the Prophet ﷺ about it. So he rode his Rahila (she-camel for riding) and addressed the people saying, "Allah held back the killing from Mecca. (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether the Prophet ﷺ said "elephant or killing," as the Arabic words standing for these words have great similarity in shape), but He (Allah) let His Apostle and the believers over power the infidels of Mecca. Beware! (Mecca is a sanctuary) Verily! Fighting in Mecca was not permitted for anyone before me nor will it be permitted for anyone after me. It (war) in it was made legal for me for few hours or so on that day. No doubt it is at this moment a sanctuary, it is not allowed to uproot its thorny shrubs or to uproot its trees or to pick up its Luqat (fallen things) except by a person who will look for its owner (announce it publicly). And if somebody is killed, then his closest relative has the right to choose one of the two-- the blood money (Diyya) or retaliation having the killer killed. In the meantime a man from Yemen came and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Get that written for me." The Prophet ﷺ ordered his companions to write that for him. Then a man from Quraish said, "Except Al-Idhkhir (a type of grass that has good smell) O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as we use it in our houses and graves." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir i.e. Al-Idhkhir is allowed to be plucked." (Using translation from Bukhārī 112)

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ خُزَاعَةَ قَتَلُوا رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ عَامَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ بِقَتِيلٍ مِنْهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ فَأُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ فَخَطَبَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلَا وَإِنَّهَا لَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَنْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي أَلَا وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ أَلَا وَإِنَّهَا سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ لَا يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يَلْتَقِطُ سَاقِطَتَهَا إِلَّا مُنْشِدٌ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُعْطَى الدِّيَةَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقَادَ أَهْلُ الْقَتِيلِ قَالَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شَاهٍ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ اكْتُبُوا لِأَبِي شَاهٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا وَقُبُورِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ

"أُحِلَّت لى مكَّةُ ساعةً من نهارٍ، ولا تحلُّ لأحدٍ من بعدى، وهى حرامٌ بحرمة الله إلى يوم القيامة، لا يُعضدُ شجرُها، ولا يُخْتلى خَلَاهَا، ولا ينفَّرُ صيدُها، ولا تُلْتَقَط لقَطَتُها إلا لمُنشِدٍ، قالوا: إلا الإِذخِر ؟ قال: إلا الإذخِر" .

"إِنَّ الله ﷻ حَبَس عَن مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ، وَسَلَّطَ عَليهَا رَسُولَ الله والمؤمنين، ألَا فإنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لأحد قبْلِى وَلَا تَحِلُّ لأَحد بعدى، أَلَا وإنَّهَا حَلَّتْ لي سَاعَةً مِن نَهَار، أَلَا وَإنَّهَا سَاعَتِى هَذ حَرَامٌ لَا يُخْتَلى شَوْكُهَا، ولا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا، ولَا تُلتَقَطُ سَاقطتها إِلا لِمُنْشِدٍ؛ وَمَن قُتِلَ له قَتِيلٌ فَهُوَ بخَير النَّظَرَين: إِمَّا أن يُعْقَلَ وَإمَّا أنْ يُقادَ أَهْلُ القتيل فقال رجلٌ: يا رَسُولَ الله إلا الإِذخِرَ ، فقال: إلا ذُحِرَ".

Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up on the day of the Conquest of Mecca and said, "Allah has made Mecca a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth, and it will remain a sanctuary by virtue of the sanctity Allah has bestowed on it till the Day of Resurrection. It (i.e. fighting in it) was not made lawful to anyone before me!, nor will it be made lawful to anyone after me, and it was not made lawful for me except for a short period of time. Its game should not be chased, nor should its trees be cut, nor its vegetation or grass uprooted, not its Luqata (i.e. Most things) picked up except by one who makes a public announcement about it." Al-Abbas bin ʿAbdul Muttalib said, "Except the Idhkhir, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as it is indispensable for blacksmiths and houses." On that, the Prophet ﷺ kept quiet and then said, "Except the Idhkhir as it is lawful to cut." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4313)

"إِنَّ الله حَرَّمَ مَكَّة يَوْمَ خلقَ السَّمَوَاتِ والأَرْضَ، فهِيَ حرَامٌ بحُرْمَةِ الله إِلى يَوْم الْقِيَامَة، لمْ تَحِلَّ لأحَدٍ قبْلي، ولا تَحلُّ لأَحدٍ بَعْدِى، ولمْ تَحِلَّ لي قطُّ إلا ساعةً مِنَ الدَّهْرِ، لا يُنَفَّرُ صَيدُها، وَلَا يُعْضدُ شوْكُها، وَلَا يُختَلى خَلَاهَا، وَلَا تَحلُّ لُقطتُها إلا لِمُنْشِد، فقال العبَّاسُ: إلا الإِذخِرَ يا رسولَ الله؛ فإِنَّهُ لا بُدَّ مِنْهُ لِلقَينِ والبيوتِ؟ قال: إلا الإِذخِرَ، فإِنَّهُ حَلَالٌ".

"لا هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّة، وإذا اسْتُنْفِرْتُم فَانْفِرُوا، فَإِنَّ هذا بلد حرَّمه اللهُ يومَ خَلَق السمواتِ والأَرْضَ، وهو حرامٌ بحرمةِ الله إلَى يومِ القِيَامةِ، وَإِنَّه لا يَحِلُّ القتَالُ فيه لأَحدٍ قَبْلي، ولَمْ يحلَّ لي إلا سَاعةً من نَهَار، فهو حرامٌ بحرمةِ اللهِ إلى يوم القِيَامَةِ، لا يُعْضَد شَوْكُه ولا يُنَفَّر صيدُه، ولا تُلْتقط لُقَطَتُه إِلا من عَرَّفَهَا، ولا يُختَلى خَلَاها. قال العَبَّاسُ: يا رسولَ الله: إلا الإذخر فإنَّه لِقَينهم وبُيُوتِهم، قال: إلا الإذْخر".

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : هَذِهِ حَرَامٌ -يَعْنِى مَكَّةَ- حَرَّمَهَا الله يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأرْضَ، وَوَضَعَ هَذَيْنِ الأخْشَبَيْنِ، لَمْ تَحِلَّ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِى، وَلَا تَحِلَّ لأحَدٍ بَعْدِى، وَلَمْ تَحِلَّ لِى إِلَّا سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ، لَا يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهَا، وَلَا يُنْفَّرُ

صَيْدُهَا، وَلَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا، وَلَا تُرْفَعُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمُنْشِدٍ، فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ: يَا رَسُولَ الله، إِنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ لَا صَبْرَ لَهُمْ عَنِ الإِذْخِرِ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَأَبْيَاتِهِمْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : إِلَّا الإِذْخَر".

"عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ قَدمَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْح وَالأَنْصَابُ بَيْنَ الرُّكْنِ وَالمقَامِ فَجَعَلَ يكفئها لوجوهها، ثُمَّ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَطِيبًا، فَقَالَ: أَلَا إِنَّ مَكَّةَ حَرَامٌ أَبَدًا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا تَحِلُّ لأَحِدٍ قَبْلِى وَلَا تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِى، غَيْرَ أَنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِى سَاعةً مِنَ النَّهَارِ، لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا، وَلَا يُنَفَّر صَيْدُهَا، وَلَا يُعْضَد شَجَرُهَا، وَلَا يُلْتَقَط لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا أَنْ تعَرَّف، فَقَامُ الْعَبَّاسُ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الإذخر لصاغتنا وَقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا، فَقَالَ: إِلَّا إلا دْخِرَ إِلَّا إِلا دْخِرَ".
