Abdullah bin Abu Awfa said “When Muadh bin Jabal came from Sham, he prostrated to the Prophet who said: 'What is this, O Muadh?' He said: 'I went to Sham and saw them prostrating to their bishops and patricians and I wanted to do that for you.' The messenger of Allah said: 'Do not do that. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone other than Allah, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad! No woman can fulfill her duty towards Allah until she fulfills her duty towards her husband. If he asks her (for intimacy) even if she is on her camel saddle, she should not refuse.' ”

لَمَّا قَدِمَ مُعَاذٌ مِنَ الشَّامِ سَجَدَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا هَذَا يَا مُعَاذُ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ الشَّامَ فَوَافَقْتُهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ وَبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ فَوَدِدْتُ فِي نَفْسِي أَنْ نَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلاَ تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنِّي لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ لأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لاَ تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ رَبِّهَا حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا وَلَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا وَهِيَ عَلَى قَتَبٍ لَمْ تَمْنَعْهُ

[AI] An Arab man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, give me permission to prostrate to you." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband."

جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ائْذَنْ لِي فَلِأَسْجُدَ لَكَ قَالَ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا»

[AI] Sham saw the Christians prostrating to their bishops and their priests, so he thought to himself that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more deserving to be honored. When he arrived, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw the Christians prostrating to their bishops and priests, so I thought to myself that you are more deserving to be honored." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands. And no woman fulfills her duty to Allah (SWT) completely until she fulfills her duty to her husband completely. Even if he asks for herself while she is on the back of a camel, she should give it to him."

الشَّامَ فَرَأَى النَّصَارَى تَسْجُدُ لِبَطَارِقَتِهَا وَأَسَاقِفَتِهَا فَرَوَّى فِي نَفْسِهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُعَظَّمَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْتُ النَّصَارَى تَسْجُدُ لِبَطَارِقَتِهَا وَأَسَاقِفَتِهَا فَرَوَّأْتُ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّكَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تُعَظَّمَ فَقَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ آمُرُ أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا وَلَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ اللهِ ﷻ عَلَيْهَا كُلَّهُ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا عَلَيْهَا كُلَّهُ حَتَّى لَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا وَهِيَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ قَتَبٍ لَأَعْطَتْهُ إِيَّاهُ

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen men in Yemen prostrating to each other. Shouldn't we prostrate to you instead?" He replied, "If I were to command someone to prostrate to another person, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْتُ رِجَالًا بِالْيَمَنِ يَسْجُدُ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ أَفَلَا نَسْجُدُ لَكَ؟ قَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا بَشَرًا يَسْجُدُ لِبَشَرٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا

Abdullah bin Abu Awfa said “When Muadh bin Jabal came from Sham, he prostrated to the Prophet who said: 'What is this, O Muadh?' He said: 'I went to Sham and saw them prostrating to their bishops and patricians and I wanted to do that for you.' The messenger of Allah said: 'Do not do that. لَمَّا قَدِمَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ مِنَ الشَّامِ سَجَدَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَا هَذَا؟ » قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدِمْتُ الشَّامَ فَرَأَيْتُهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لِبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ وَأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِكَ قَالَ «فَلَا تَفْعَلْ فَإِنِّي لَوْ أَمَرْتُ شَيْئًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِشَيْءٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ رَبِّهَا حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا حَتَّى لَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا وَهِيَ عَلَى قَتَبٍ لَمْ تَمْنَعْهُ»

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْ أَمَرْتُ أَحَدًا يَسْجُدُ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about the People of the Book prostrating to their bishops and rabbis? Shouldn't we prostrate to you instead?" He said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband. And the wife would not fulfill her husband's rights even if he asked her to do so while riding a camel, she would give it to him."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَسْجُدُونَ لِأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ وَبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ؟ أَفَلَا نَسْجُدُ لَكَ؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا وَلَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا حَتَّى لَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا عَلَى قَتَبٍ لَأَعْطَتْهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , sent Mu'adh to Sham (Syria). When he arrived, Mu'adh said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have seen the People of the Book prostrating to their bishops and monks. Shouldn't we prostrate to you?" The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , replied, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone else, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband. And a wife does not fulfill her husband's rights even if he asks her while she is on the back of a camel."

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُعَاذًا إِلَى الشَّامِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَسْجُدُونَ لِأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ وَبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ أَلَا نَسْجُدُ لَكَ؟ قَالَ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا وَلَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا حَتَّى لَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا عَلَى ظَهْرِ قَتَبٍ أَعْطَتْهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to someone else, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا»

[AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ during his journey, and he said, "If I were to order anyone to prostrate to someone, I would order the woman to prostrate to her husband."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرِهِ فَقَالَ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone else, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands as a right upon them. A woman will never have the sweetness of faith until she fulfills the rights of her husband, even if he were to ask her willingly for herself on a camel's hump."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا مِنْ حَقِّهِ عَلَيْهَا وَلَا تَجِدُ امْرَأَةٌ حَلَاوَةَ الْإِيمَانِ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا وَلَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا عَلَى قَتَبٍ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband, due to the great rights that Allah has bestowed upon him."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا لِمَا عَظَّمَ اللهُ مِنْ حَقِّهِ عَلَيْهَا

[AI] To do that for the Prophet ﷺ , so when he arrived, he prostrated to the Prophet ﷺ and he objected to that. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I entered Syria and found them prostrating to their bishops and patriarchs. So, I thought to myself that I should do the same for you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, a woman does not fulfill her Lord's right until she fulfills her husband's right in its entirety, even if he were to ask for her while she is on a saddle."

أَنْ يَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ سَجَدَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي دَخَلْتُ الشَّامَ فَوَجَدْتُهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لِبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ وَأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ فَرَوَيْتُ فِي نَفْسِي أَنْ أَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ لَكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأَةُ حَقَّ رَبِّهَا ﷻ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا كُلَّهُ حَتَّى أَنْ لَوْ سَأَلَهَا نَفْسَهَا وَهِيَ عَلَى قَتَبٍ أَعْطَتْهُ أَوْ قَالَ لَمْ تَمْنَعْهُ

"لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أنْ يَسْجُدَ لِغَير الله لأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأةَ أنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا، وَالَّذِى نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَا تُؤَدِّي الْمَرْأةُ حَقَّ رَبِّها حَتَّى تُؤَدِّى حَقَّ زَوْجِهَا حَتَّى لَوْ سَأَلَهَا عَلَى ظَهْر قَتبٍ أَعْطَتْهُ".

"لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لأحَدٍ لأمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا".

"لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسجُدَ لأَحَدٍ، لأمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِها، مِنْ حَقِّه عَلَيهَا، وَلا تَجِدُ امْرَأةٌ حَلَاوةَ الإيمانِ، حَتَّى تُؤدِّى حَقَّ زَوْجِها، وَلَو سَأَلَهَا نَفْسها على قَتَب".

[AI] "I do not command anyone to prostrate to anyone. Even if I were to command someone to prostrate to someone, I would command the woman to prostrate to her husband."

"لا آمُر أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لأحَدٍ، وَلَوْ أَمْرتُ أَحَدًا يَسْجُدُ لأحَدٍ، لأَمَرْتُ الْمَرأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزوْجِهَا".
