‘Ali adjured the people at ar-Rahbah, saying: Whoever heard the messenger of Allah ﷺ speak on the day of Ghadeer Khumm, let him stand up. And (of the people) around Sa’eed, six men stood up, and (of the people) around Zaid, six men stood up, and they testified that they had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to ‘Ali ؓ on the day of Ghadeer Khumm. “Isnʿt it Allah Who is closer to the believers?” They said: Yes. He said: ʿO Allah, if I am a personʿs mawla (friend and supporter) then ‘Ali is also his mawla; O Allah, take as friends those who take him as a friend, and take as enemies those who take him as an enemy.” A hadeeth like that of Abu Ishaq was narrated from ʿAmr Dhi Murr, i.e., from Saʿeed and Zaid, and he added to it: ʿand support those who support him, and forsake those who forsake him.ʿ A similar report was narrated from Abut-Tufail from Zaid bin Arqam from the Prophet ﷺ.

سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ إِلا قَامَ قَالَ فَقَامَ مِنْ قِبَلِ سَعِيدٍ سِتَّةٌ وَمِنْ قِبَلِ زَيْدٍ سِتَّةٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ أَلَيْسَ اللهُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ اللهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ

l saw ‘Ali ؓ in ar-Rahbah, adjuring the people, (saying): I adjure by Allah anyone who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the day of Ghadeer Khumm:ʿIf I am a personʿs mowla (friend and supporter) then ‘Ali is also his mawla”, to stand up and testify. ‘Abdur-Rahman said: And twelve men who had been at Badr stood up. It is as if I can see one of them. And they said: We bear witness that we heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on the day of Ghadeer Khumm; ʿAm I not closer to the believers than their own selves and my wives are their mothers?ʿ We said: Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: ʿIf I am a personʿs mawla (friend and supporter) then ʿAli is also his mawla; O Allah, take as friends those who take him as a friend, and take as enemies those who take him as an enemy.”

شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا فِي الرَّحَبَةِ يَنْشُدُ النَّاسَ أَنْشُدُ اللهَ مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ لَمَّا قَامَ فَشَهِدَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ بَدْرِيًّا كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمْ فَقَالُوا نَشْهَدُ أَنَّا سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجِي أُمَّهَاتُهُمْ؟ فَقُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and we stopped at Ghadeer Khumm. Then the call for prayer was made, announcing the congregational prayer. A place under two trees was cleared for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pray Dhuhr. He took the hand of Ali and said, "Do you not know that I have more authority over the believers than they have over themselves?" They replied, "Yes, indeed." He said, "Do you not know that I have more authority over every believer than they have over themselves?" They responded, "Yes, indeed." Then, he held Ali's hand and said, "Whoever has me as their master, Ali is also their master. O Allah, be a friend to whoever befriends him and an enemy to whoever fights against him." Umar met him afterward and said, "Congratulations, O son of Abu Talib! You have become the master of every believer, male and female, both in the morning and the evening."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلْنَا بِغَدِيرِ خُمٍّ فَنُودِيَ فِينَا الصَّلَاةُ جَامِعَةٌ وَكُسِحَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَحْتَ شَجَرَتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ وَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ قَالَ فَلَقِيَهُ عُمَرُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ هَنِيئًا يَا ابْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَصْبَحْتَ وَأَمْسَيْتَ مَوْلَى كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ

[AI] I asked Zaid bin Arqam and said to him, "Indeed, I have heard a narration about you in relation to Ali on the day of Ghadeer Khumm. I would like to hear it directly from you." He said, "You people, the people of Iraq, have everything that is in you." I said to him, "You have no blame from me." He said, "Yes, we were in the Juhfah area when the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came to us in the afternoon and held the shoulder of Ali. He said, 'O people, do you not know that I am closer to the believers than their own selves?' They said, 'Yes." He said, 'Whoever I am his Mawla, then Ali is his Mawla.' I said to him, 'Did Allah say 'O Allah, be the supporter of those who support him and the enemy of those who oppose him?' He said, 'I am telling you as I heard it.'"

سَأَلْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ خَتَنًا لِي حَدَّثَنِي عَنْكَ بِحَدِيثٍ فِي شَأْنِ عَلِيٍّ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَسْمَعَهُ مِنْكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ مَعْشَرَ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فِيكُمْ مَا فِيكُمْ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ مِنِّي بَأْسٌ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ كُنَّا بِالْجُحْفَةِ فَخَرْجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْنَا ظُهْرًا وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِعَضُدِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ هَلْ قَالَ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ؟ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُخْبِرُكَ كَمَا سَمِعْتُ

[AI] Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib: Ali gathered the people in the field and said to them, "I call upon Allah to bear witness that every Muslim who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Ghadir Khumm should testify to what he heard when the Messenger stood up." Thirty people stood up. Abu Nu'aym said, "Many people stood up and witnessed when he took him by the hand." He said to the people, "Do you know that I have more authority over the believers than themselves?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Whoever I have authority over, this Ali is also his authority. O Allah, be a friend to those who befriend him and an enemy to those who oppose him." Then I left feeling uneasy, and I met Zaid ibn Arqam and said to him, "I heard Ali say such and such." He said, "Do you deny it? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say the same thing to him."

جَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَنْشُدُ اللهَ كُلَّ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ مَا سَمِعَ لَمَّا قَامَ فَقَامَ ثَلَاثُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَقَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ فَقَامَ نَاسٌ كَثِيرٌ فَشَهِدُوا حِينَ أَخَذَهُ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ لِلنَّاسِ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهَذَا مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ وَكَأَنَّ فِي نَفْسِي شَيْئًا فَلَقِيتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ فَمَا تُنْكِرُ؟ قَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ

[AI] I remember when we camped with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a valley called Wadi Khumm. He commanded us to perform the prayer, so we prayed with him using a sand mound as a place of prostration. Then he delivered a sermon to us while being shaded by a garment on a samurah tree from the sun. He asked us, "Do you not know, and do you not bear witness, that I am closer to every believer than his own self?" We replied, "Yes, indeed." He said, "Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master. O Allah, be a friend to those who befriend him and an enemy to those who oppose him."

أَسْمَعُ نَزَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِوَادٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي خُمٍّ فَأَمَرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّاهَا بِهَجِيرٍ قَالَ فَخَطَبَنَا وَظُلِّلَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةِ سَمُرَةٍ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَوْ أَلَسْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَمَنْكُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Am I not more worthy of the believers than themselves?" They said, "Indeed, you are." He said, "Whoever I am his Mawla (master), then 'Ali is his Mawla." Ma'mun narrated that some people reported to him from Zaid that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, be a supporter to the one who supports him (Ali) and be an enemy to the one who opposes him."

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ قَالَ مَيْمُونٌ فَحَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ عَنْ زَيْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard saying on the day of Ghadir Khumm, "When people stood up, testifying that they heard him say, 'Do you not know that I have more authority over the believers than themselves?' They replied, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him and be an enemy to whoever opposes him.' After that, I went out with something in my heart, and then I met Zaid bin Arqam and mentioned this to him. He said, 'Indeed, we have heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying the same thing to him.'"

سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ لَمَّا قَامَ فَقَامَ أُنَاسٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوهُ يَقُولُ «أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ » قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ هَذَا مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ» فَخَرَجْتُ وَفِي نَفْسِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ فَلَقِيتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ قَدْ سَمِعْنَاهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ

قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا وَهُوَ يَنْشُدُ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ أَنْشُدُ لِلَّهِ كُلَّ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ مَا قَالَ الْإِمَامُ فَقَالَ نَاسٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّا رَأَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ وَرَوَاهُ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ فِطْرٌ وَرَوَاهُ مَعْرُوفُ بْنُ خَرَّبُوذَ

قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَنْشُدُ النَّاسَ يَقُولُ أَنْشُدُ امْرَأً مُسْلِمًا سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ إِلَّا قَامَ فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَقَالُوا أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلًى لَهُ فَهَذَا مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ

سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ لَمَّا قَامَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَةُ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهَذَا مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَأَحِبَّ مَنْ أَحَبَّهُ وَأَبْغِضْ مَنْ أَبْغَضَهُ وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ وَاخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ

أَسْمَعُ نَزَلْنَا مَعَ رسول الله ﷺ واد يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي خُمٍّ فَأُذِّنَ بِالصَّلاةِ فَصَلاهَا تَهْجِيرًا ثُمَّ خَطَبَنَا وَظُلِّلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ سَمُرَةٍ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَوْ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ قَالُوابَلَى قَالَ فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نعلَمُ أحَدًا رَوَاهُ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ إلاَّ أَبَا عَوَانة

عن حديث سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يحدثني به فقال أنشدك الله أسمعت النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ والاه وعاد من عاداه؟ قال اللهم نعم

[AI] Ali called upon the people in the Rahaabah, asking if anyone had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say what he had said. Sixteen men stood up and testified that they had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "O Allah, whoever has taken me as his master, Ali is his master. O Allah, support those who support him and oppose those who oppose him." Zaid ibn Arqam said, "I was among those who kept it a secret, and as a result, my sight was impaired. Ali then cursed those who kept it a secret."

نَاشَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الَّذِي قَالَ لَهُ فَقَامَ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ» قَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ «فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ كَتَمَ فَذَهَبَ بَصَرِي وَكَانَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ دَعَا عَلَى مَنْ كَتَمَ»

[AI] "Ali stood before the people and said, 'I will recite a poem about a man who heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Whomever I am his master, Ali is his master. O Allah, be the supporter of whoever supports Ali and be the enemy of whoever opposes him." Twelve Badri Sahabah bore witness to this.' Zaid said, 'I was among those who remained silent, and my eyesight was lost.'"

نَشَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ أَنْشُدُ اللهَ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ» فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ بَدْرِيًّا فَشَهِدُوا بِذَلِكَ قَالَ زَيْدٌ «وَكُنْتُ أَنَا فِيمَنْ كَتَمَ فَذَهَبَ بَصَرِي»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the day of Ghadir and said, "Am I not closer to the believers than their own selves?" They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He then took the hand of Ali and said, "Whoever I am his mawla (master), Ali is also his mawla. O Allah, be a helper to whoever helps him and an enemy to whoever opposes him."

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْغَدِيرِ فَقَالَ «أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟» قَالُوا بَلَى فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ ؓ فَقَالَ «مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out with a cloak on the day of Ghadeer Khumm, while holding the shoulder of Ali, and said, "O people! Do you not know that I have more authority over the believers than themselves?" They replied, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "Whoever I am his master, Ali is also his master."

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْجُحْفَةِ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِعَضُدِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟» قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهَذَا مَوْلَاهُ»

[AI] I heard that we camped with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a valley called Wadi Khumm. He ordered for the prayer to be performed, so it was performed on rocks. Then he delivered a sermon and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was shaded by a garment hanging on a tree, shielding him from the sun. He said, "Do you not know that I have more authority over the believers than they have over themselves?" They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Whoever I am his Mawla, then Ali is his Mawla. O Allah, be a friend to his friends and an enemy to his enemies."

أَسْمَعُ نَزَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِوَادٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي خُمٍّ فَأَمَرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّاهَا بِالْهَجِيرِ فَخَطَبَنَا وَظُلِّلَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ «أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ؟» قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ «فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to plant trees, so we stood up what was under them and sprinkled them with water. Then he addressed us and said, "By Allah, there is nothing that will happen until the Hour comes, but we have been informed about it on that day." Then he said, "O people, who is more worthy of you than yourselves?" We said, "Allah and His Messenger are more worthy of us than ourselves." He said, "So whoever I am his guardian, 'Ali is his guardian." Then he took his hand and said, "O Allah, be a protector to those who protect him and be an enemy to those who show enmity to him."

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالشَّجَرَاتِ فَقُمَّ مَا تَحْتَهَا وَرُشَّ ثُمَّ خَطَبَنَا فَوَاللهِ مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ يَكُونُ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ إِلَّا وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا بِهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ أَوْلَى بِكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَوْلَى بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا قَالَ «فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهَذَا مَوْلَاهُ» يَعْنِي عَلِيًّا ؓ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ فَكَشَطَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ»

[AI] Ali gathered the people in the open space and said, "I will take an oath by Allah upon every person who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying on the day of Ghadeer Khumm, that they stood up and testified that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do you not know that I have more authority over the believers than themselves?' Then he took the hand of Ali and said, 'Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master. O Allah, be a supporter of whoever supports him (Ali) and an enemy to whoever becomes an enemy to him (Ali).' Abu Taufail said, 'So, I went out and there was something in my heart that he (Ali) met Zaid bin Arqam and I informed him (about what happened).' He said, 'Do you deny it? I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' And the wording is from Abu Dawood."

جَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ فَقَالَ «أَنْشُدُ بِاللهِ كُلَّ امْرِئٍ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ مَا سَمِعَ فَقَامَ أُنَاسٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ» قَالَ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ «أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ» فَقَالَ «مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ» قَالَ أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ «فَخَرَجْتُ وَفِي نَفْسِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ فَلَقِيتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ» فَقَالَ «أَوَمَا تُنْكِرُ؟ أَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ» وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي دَاوُدَ

[AI] I witnessed Ali reciting in the open field, asking the companions of Muhammad (PBUH): "Which one of you heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say on the day of Ghadir Khumm?" So some people stood up and testified that they heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: "Whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master. O Allah, be the supporter of whoever supports him, and be the enemy of whoever opposes him, and love whoever loves him, and hate whoever hates him, and help whoever helps him."

شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا بِالرَّحْبَةِ يَنْشُدُ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ أَيُّكُمْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ مَا قَالَ فَقَامَ أُنَاسٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلَاهُ اللهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَأَحِبَّ مَنْ أَحَبَّهُ وَأَبْغِضْ مَنْ أَبْغَضَهُ وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ

" عن عبد الرحمن بن أبى لَيْلَى قالَ: شهدتُ عليا في الرَّحبَةِ ينشدُ الناسَ، أنشُد الله من سَمِعَ رسولَ الله ﷺ يقولُ يومَ غَدير خُمّ: من كنتُ مولاهُ فعلى مولاهُ لَمَّا قامَ فَشَهِدَ، فقامَ اثنَا عشرَ بدريًا قالوا: نشهدُ أنَّا سَمِعنَا رسولَ الله ﷺ يقولُ يومَ غديِر خُمّ: ألستُ أولَى بالمؤمنينَ من أَنْفسهمْ وَأَزْوَاجِى أمهاتُهمْ؟ فقلنَا: بَلى، قَالَ: فمن كنتُ مولاهُ فعلىٌّ مَولاهُ اللهمَّ والِ منَ وَالاَهُ، وعادِ من عَادَاهُ ".

"عن زيد بن أرقم قال: نَشَدَ عَلِىٌّ النَّاسَ: مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ: أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّى أوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنيِنَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلاَهُ فَعَلِىٌّ مَوْلاَهُ، الَّلهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالاَهُ، وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ، فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا بِذَلِكَ".

"عَنْ أَبِى إسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ذِى مُرٍّ وَسَعِيد بْنِ وَهْبٍ، وَزَيْدِ بْنِ يَثِيعْ قَالُوا: سَمِعْنَا عَلِيّا يَقُولُ: نَشَدْتُ الله رَجُلًا سَمِعَ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ قَال: أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤمِنينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ الله، فَأخذ بِيَدِ عَلِىٍّ فَقَالَ: مَنْ كنْتُ مَوْلاَه فَعَلِىٌّ مَوْلاَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالاَهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ، وَأَحِبَّ مَنْ أَحَبَّهُ وَأَبْغِضْ مَنْ أَبْغَضَهُ، وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ، وَاخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ".

"عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِى لَيْلَى قَالَ: خَطَبَ عَلِىٌّ فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُ الله اِمْرَءًا نِشْدَةَ الإِسْلَامِ سَمِعَ رسُولَ الله ﷺ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ أَخِذٌّ بِيَدِى يَقُولُ: أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِكُم يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُم؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى! يَا رسُولَ الله، قَالَ: مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِىٌّ مَوْلَاهُ، اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ، وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ، وَاخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ إِلَّا قَامَ فَشَهِدَ! فَقَامَ بِضْعَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا، وَكَتَمَ قَوْمٌ؛ فَمَا فَنَوْا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى عَمُوا وَبَرِصُوا".

"كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ في سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلنَا بِغَدِيرِ خُمٍّ، فَنُودِيَ: الصَّلَاةُ جَامِعَةٌ، وَكُسِحَ لِرَسُولِ الله ﷺ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَد عَلِيٍّ، فَقَالَ: ألَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ؟ قَالُوا بَلي ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِ عَلِيٍّ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كنتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ، اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ. فَلَقِيَهُ عُمَرُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: هَنيئًا لَكَ يَابْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ! أَصْبَحْتَ وَأَمْسَيْتَ مَوْلَي كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤمنَةٍ".

"عن عطية العوفى، عن زيد بن أرقم أن رسول الله ﷺ أخذ بعضدى علىّ يوم غدير خم بأرض الجحفة ثم قال: أيها الناس ألستم تعلمون أنى أولى بالمؤمنين من أنفسكم؟ قالوا: بلى يا رسول! قال: من كنت مولاه فعلىٌّ مولاه".
