38. Division of Charity
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a man from the Banu Makhzoom tribe to collect charity. He said to Abu Rafa'ah, "Accompany me so that some of it may reach you." Abu Rafa'ah replied, "No, not until I come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him." So he set off to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Charity does not become permissible for us, and the master of a people cannot take it from his own people." Then Abu Nasr ibn Qatadah reported to us, who informed Abu Amr ibn Matar, who narrated from Al-Fadl ibn Al-Habbab Al-Jumahi, who mentioned it in a similar manner.
[Machine] The numbers of the lottery were used for charity, so Abu Rafi followed and came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and asked him. He said, "O Abu Rafi, charity is forbidden for the family of Muhammad, and the narrations of Shu'bah from Al-Hakam are more reliable than the narration of Ibn Abi Layla. And Ibn Abi Layla was weak in memory and had many doubts."
[Machine] Beware our youth and our supporters, for Maymun or Mihraan, the mawla of the Prophet ﷺ , informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "We, the people of the household, are forbidden from receiving charity, and our supporters are from among us, so do not consume charity."
[Machine] To a man by a will from zakat or charity, so I approached Umm Kulthum, the daughter of Ali, and she said, "Beware, our youth might take from it," then he mentioned the hadith in its meaning.
