[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the Battle of Hunayn, people were asking him questions. A camel surrounded him and grabbed hold of his cloak that was on a tree branch. He said, "Return my cloak to me. Do you fear that I am stingy? If Allah were to give me blessings like the abundance of dates from Dumat al-Jandal, I would distribute it among you, and yet you would not find me to be stingy, cowardly, or a liar." Then he took a handful from the top of his camel's saddle and said, "What do I have that Allah has given you? There is nothing like this except for the fifth (khums), which is due from you. Return the thread and the needle, for the stolen goods are disgraceful and unlawful."

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , Ibn 'Ajlan, 'Amr ibn Shuayb, his father, and his grandfather, Yazid, one of them said to his companion, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Nothing of what Allah, the Majestic and Exalted, has rightfully bestowed upon you is permissible for me, except for one-fifth, and it is to be returned to you.'"

When Allah favored His Apostle with the properties of Hawazin tribe as Fai (booty), he started giving to some Quarries men even up to one-hundred camels each, whereupon some Ansari men said about Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "May Allah forgive His Apostle! He is giving to (men of) Quraish and leaves us, in spite of the fact that our swords are still dropping blood (of the infidels)" When Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed of what they had said, he called the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent and did not call anybody else along, with them. When they gathered, Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and said, "What is the statement which, I have been informed, and that which you have said?" The learned ones among them replied," O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The wise ones amongst us did not say anything, but the youngsters amongst us said, 'May Allah forgive His Apostle; he gives the Quarish and leaves the Ansar, in spite of the fact that our swords are still dribbling (wet) with the blood of the infidels.' " Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, I give to such people as are still close to the period of Infidelity (i.e. they have recently embraced Islam and Faith is still weak in their hearts). Won't you be pleased to see people go with fortune, while you return with Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your houses? By Allah, what you will return with, is better than what they are returning with." The Ansar replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we are satisfied' Then the Prophet ﷺ said to them." You will find after me, others being preferred to you. Then be patient till you meet Allah and meet His Apostle at Al-Kauthar (i.e. a fount in Paradise)." (Anas added:) But we did not remain patient. (Using translation from Bukhārī 3147)

ʿAmr bin Taghlib said, "Some property was given to the Prophet ﷺ and he gave it to some people and withheld it from some others. Then he came to know that they (the latter) were dissatisfied. So the Prophet said, 'I give to one man and leave (do not give) another, and the one to whom I do not give is dearer to me than the one to whom I give. I give to some people because of the impatience and discontent present in their hearts, and leave other people because of the content and goodness Allah has bestowed on them, and one of them is ʿAmr bin Taghlib." ʿAmr bin Taghlib said, "The sentence which Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in my favor is dearer to me than the possession of nice red camels." He (the Holy Prophet) gave to the chiefs of Najd and ignored us. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have done it with a view to conciliating between them. Then there came a person with thick beard, prominent cheeks, deep sunken eyes and protruding forehead and shaven head. He said: Muhammad, fear Allah. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If I disobey Allah, who would then obey Him? Have I not been (sent as the) most trustworthy among the people of the world? But you do not repose trust in me." That person then went back. A person among the people then sought permission (from the Holy Prophet) for his murder. According to some, it was Khalid b. Walid who sought the permission. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: From this very person's posterity there would arise people who would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throat; they would kill the followers of Islam and would spare the idol-worshippers. They would glance through the teachings of Islam so hurriedly just as the arrow passes through the pray. If I were to ever find them I would kill them like 'Ad.
