The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "An army will invade the Kaʿba and when the invaders reach al-Baidāʾ, all the ground will sink and swallow the whole army." I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! How will they sink into the ground while amongst them will be their markets (the people who worked in business and not invaders) and the people not belonging to them?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "all of those people will sink but they will be resurrected and judged according to their intentions."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «يَغْزُو جَيْشٌ الْكَعْبَةَ فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، يُخْسَفُ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ۔» قَالَتْ قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ يُخْسَفُ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ وَفِيهِمْ أَسْوَاقُهُمْ؟ وَمَنْ لَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ؟ قَالَ: «يُخْسَفُ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ ثُمَّ يُبْعَثُونَ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ».

Messenger of Allah, what about him who would be made to accompany this army willy nilly? Thereupon he said: He would be made to sink along with them but he would be raised on the Day of Resurrection on the basis of his intention. Abu Ja'far said. ' This plain, ground means the plain ground of Medina.

دَخَلَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَسَأَلَاهَا عَنِ الْجَيْشِ الَّذِي يُخْسَفُ بِهِ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي أَيَّامِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَقَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَعُوذُ عَائِذٌ بِالْبَيْتِ، فَيُبْعَثُ إِلَيْهِ بَعْثٌ، فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِهِمْ. فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ كَانَ كَارِهًا؟ قَالَ: يُخْسَفُ بِهِ مَعَهُمْ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ». وَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ: هِيَ بَيْدَاءُ الْمَدِينَةِ۔

'The people will not finish attacking this House until it is attacked by an army which, when they are at Al-Baida', or a Baida' in the land, it will swallow from the first of them to the last of them, and the middle of them shall not be saved.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What about those among them who are averse to it?' He said: 'Allah will resurrect them upon what was in their souls(intentions)."'

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ يَنْتَهِي النَّاسُ عَنْ غَزْوِ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ حَتَّى يَغْزُوَ جَيْشٌ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ وَلَمْ يَنْجُ أَوْسَطُهُمْ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ كَرِهَ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ

"The Messenger of Allah sadi: 'An army will be sent toward this House, and when they are in Al-Baida, they first and the last of them will be swallowed up by the earth, and those in the middle will be saved.' I said: "What if there are believers among them?" He said: 'It will be graves for them.'" (Daif)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُبْعَثُ جُنْدٌ إِلَى هَذَا الْحَرَمِ فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ وَلَمْ يَنْجُ أَوْسَطُهُمْ قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمْ مُؤْمِنُونَ قَالَ تَكُونُ لَهُمْ قُبُورًا

“People will not stop attacking this House until an army attacks, until when they are in Baida’, the first and the last of them will be swallowed by the earth, and the middle of them will not be saved.’” I said: “What if there are those among them who were forced (to join the army)?” He said: “Allah will resurrect them according to what is in the hearts.”

Aisha asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about those who are not part of them?" قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَغْزُو جَيْشٌ الْكَعْبَةَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَفِيهِمْ سِوَاهُمْ وَمَنْ لَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ؟ قَالَ «يُخْسَفُ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُونَ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ»

[AI] I went with Abdullah ibn Safwan and Harith ibn Rabiah until we entered upon Umm Salamah. They said, "O Umm Salamah, will you not tell us about the earthquake that will happen to the people?" She said, "Yes, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'One who seeks refuge in the house will be sent a messenger until they are in the open desert, and then they will be swallowed by it.'" I said, "O Prophet of Allah, what about the one who dislikes it?" He said, "He will be swallowed with them, but he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment based on what was in his heart." Abdul Aziz said, "So I said to Abu Jafar, she said 'in the open desert,' and he said, 'By Allah, it is indeed the open desert of Madinah.'"

انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالُوا يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أَلَا تُحَدِّثِينَا عَنِ الْخَسْفِ الَّذِي يُخْسَفُ بِالْقَوْمِ؟ قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَعُوذُ عَائِذٌ بِالْبَيْتِ فَيُبْعَثُ إِلَيْهِ بَعْثٌ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِهِمْ» قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ مَنْ كَانَ كَارِهًا؟ قَالَ «يُخْسَفُ مَعَهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُ يُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى مَا كَانَ فِي نَفْسِهِ» قَالَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ إِنَّهَا قَالَتْ بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهَا لَبَيْدَاءُ الْمَدِينَةِ

[AI] Al-Harith ibn Abi Rabia and Abdullah ibn Safwan entered upon Umm Salama and I was with them. They asked her about the army that would be swallowed up, and this was during the time of Ibn Zubayr. She said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A person will seek refuge by entering the House, then Allah will send a wind, and when they are in an open plain of land, they will be swallowed up.'" She said: "O Messenger of Allah, will they be swallowed up with those who are reluctant?" He said, "They will be swallowed up along with them, but they will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection according to their intentions."

"لَا تَنْتَهِى النَّاسُ مِن غَزْوِ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ حَتَّى يَغْزُوَ جَيْشٌ، حتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ، أَوْ ببَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وآخِرِهِمْ وَلَمْ يَنْجُ أَوْسَطُهُمْ، قِيلَ: فَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمْ مَنْ يَكْرَهُ؟ قَالَ: يَبْعَثُهُم الله عَلَى مَا فِى أَنْفُسِهِمْ".

"لَا يَنْتَهِي النَّاسُ عَنْ غَزْو هَذَا الْبَيتِ حَتَّى يَغْزُوَ جَيشٌ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا في الْبَيدَاءِ، أوْ بَيدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وآخِرِهِمْ، وَلَمْ يَنْجُ أَوْسَطُهُم، قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ الله: فَمَنْ أُكْرِه مِنْهُمْ؟ قَال: يَبْعَثُهُم الله عَلَى مَا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ".

"يَبْعَثُ جُنْدًا إِلَى هَذَا الْحَرَمِ، فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْداءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وآخِرِهِمْ وَلَمْ يَنْجُ أَوْسَطُهُمْ، قِيلَ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمْ مُؤمِنُونَ؟ قَالَ: يَكُونُ لَهُمْ قُبُورًا".

"يَعُوذُ عَائِذٌ بِالْبَيْتِ، فَيبعَثُ إِلَيْهِ بَعْثٌ، فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ خُسِفَ بِهِمْ، قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّه: فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ كَانَ كَارِهًا؟ قَالَ: يُخْسَفُ بِهِ مَعَهُمْ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ".

"يَغْزُو جَيْشٌ الْكَعْبَةَ؛ فَإِذَا كَانُوا بِبَيْدَاءَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ يُخْسَفُ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ وآخِرِهِمْ، ثُمَّ يُبْعَثُونَ عَلَى نِيَّاتِهِمْ".
