The Messenger of Allah (may peace beupon him) led us In Zuhr or 'Asr prayer (noon or the afternoon prayer). (On concluding it) he said: Who recited behind me (the verses): Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la (Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High)? There upon a person said: It was I, but I in- tended nothing but goodness. I felt that some one of you was disputing with me in it (or he was taking out from my tongue what I was reciting), said the Prophet ﷺ.  

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ خَلْفِي بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا وَلَمْ أُرِدْ بِهَا إِلاَّ الْخَيْرَ قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed the Zuhr prayer and a person recited Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la (Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High) behind him. When he (the Holy Pro- phet) concluded the prayer he said: Who amongst you recited (the above-mentioned verse) or who amongst you was the reciter? A person said: It was I. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) observed: I thought as if someone amongst you was disputing with me (in what I was reciting).  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَجَعَلَ رَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ خَلْفَهُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ أَوْ أَيُّكُمُ الْقَارِئُ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ قَدْ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

"The Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr and a man behind him recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. When he had finished praying, he said: 'Who recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High?" A man said: 'I did.' He said: 'I realized that some of you were disputing with me over it'".  

صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ فَقَرَأَ رَجُلٌ خَلْفَهُ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ مَنْ قَرَأَ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ قَدْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

The Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr or Asr, and a man was reciting behind him. When he had finished he said: "Which one of you recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High?" A man among the people said: "I did, but I did not intend anything but good." The Prophet ﷺ said: "I realized that some of you were disputing with me over it."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى صَلاَةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ وَرَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ خَلْفَهُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا وَلَمْ أُرِدْ بِهَا إِلاَّ الْخَيْرَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ قَدْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

"Yahya bin Sa'eed narrated to us from Shu'bah, from Qatadah, from Zurarah, from Imran bin Husain, who said The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr, and a man recited 'Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High.' When he finished praying, he said: 'Who recited: 'Glorify the Name of Your Lord, the Most High?' A man said: 'I did.' He said: 'I knew that someone was competing with me in it.'"  

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ فَقَرَأَ رَجُلٌ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ مَنْ قَرَأَ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَهُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

The Prophet ﷺ led (us) in the noon prayer, and a man came and recited behind him "Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High" (Surah 87). When he finished (the prayer), he said: Which of you recited? They (the people) said: A man (recited). He said: I knew that some one of you confused me in it (in the recitation of the Qur'an). Abu Dawud said: Abu al-Walid said in his version: Shu'bah said: I asked Qatadah: Did Sa'id not say: Listen attentively to the Qur'an? He replied: (Yes), but that applies to prayer in which it (the Qur'an) is recited aloud. Ibn Kathir said in his version: I said to Qatadah: Perhaps he (the Prophet) disliked it (recitation). He said: If he had disliked it, he would have prohibited it.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَرَأَ خَلْفَهُ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ قَالُوا رَجُلٌ قَالَ قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

Which of you did recite the surah “ Glorify the name of thy lord, the Most High”(Surah lxxxvii.) A man said: I . He said: I knew that some one of you confused me in it(i.e in the recitation of the Qur’an).  

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمُ الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا انْفَتَلَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا  

"The Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr and a man behind him recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. Which of you did recite the surah “ Glorify the name of thy lord, the Most High”(Surah lxxxvii.) A man said: I . He said: I knew that some one of you confused me in it(i.e in the recitation of the Qur’an). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 829)

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَرَأَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟ » فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»  

[Machine] A man read behind the Prophet ﷺ during Dhuhr or Asr prayer. Abu Awana doubted, so he said, "Which one of you has recited 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High'?" A man from the people said, "It was me." Abu Awana then said, "I knew that some of you has mixed with her."  

قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ شَكَّ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟ » فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prayed Dhuhr with his companions. After he finished his prayer, he asked, "Which of you recited Surah Al-A'la (Chapter 87)?" Some of the people said, "I did, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "I knew that some of you had recited it."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prayed Duhr prayer with his companions and then said, "Who among you has recited Surah Al-A'la (Chapter 87)?" A man said, "I have." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I knew that a man had been inspired to recite it."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَالَجَنِيهَا»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed one of the evening prayers with us, either Dhuhr or Asr. He asked, "Which one of you recited Surah Al-Ala (Chapter 87) in the prayer?" A man said, "I did." The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said, "I knew that someone had recited it to me."  

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِحْدَى صَلَاتِي الْعَشِيِّ إِمَّا الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَالَجَنِيهَا»  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed the Dhuhr prayer. And when he finished, he said, "Which one of you recited 'SubhanAllahi al-A'la'?" A man said, "I did, O Messenger of Allah." So he said, "I knew that someone amongst you had stepped out of the prayer."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ وَرَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ خَلْفَهُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ {سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} [الأعلى 1] قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا وَلَمْ أُرِدْ بِهَا إِلَّا الْخَيْرَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ قَدْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»  

"أيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحْ اسمَ ربِّكَ الأعْلَى: قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالجَنِيهَا".
