The Messenger of Allah (may peace beupon him) led us In Zuhr or 'Asr prayer (noon or the afternoon prayer). (On concluding it) he said: Who recited behind me (the verses): Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la (Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High)? There upon a person said: It was I, but I in- tended nothing but goodness. I felt that some one of you was disputing with me in it (or he was taking out from my tongue what I was reciting), said the Prophet ﷺ.

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ خَلْفِي بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا وَلَمْ أُرِدْ بِهَا إِلاَّ الْخَيْرَ قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed the Zuhr prayer and a person recited Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la (Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High) behind him. When he (the Holy Pro- phet) concluded the prayer he said: Who amongst you recited (the above-mentioned verse) or who amongst you was the reciter? A person said: It was I. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) observed: I thought as if someone amongst you was disputing with me (in what I was reciting).

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَجَعَلَ رَجُلٌ يَقْرَأُ خَلْفَهُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ أَوْ أَيُّكُمُ الْقَارِئُ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ قَدْ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

The Prophet ﷺ led (us) in the noon prayer, and a man came and recited behind him "Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High" (Surah 87). When he finished (the prayer), he said: Which of you recited? They (the people) said: A man (recited). He said: I knew that some one of you confused me in it (in the recitation of the Qur'an). Abu Dawud said: Abu al-Walid said in his version: Shu'bah said: I asked Qatadah: Did Sa'id not say: Listen attentively to the Qur'an? He replied: (Yes), but that applies to prayer in which it (the Qur'an) is recited aloud. Ibn Kathir said in his version: I said to Qatadah: Perhaps he (the Prophet) disliked it (recitation). He said: If he had disliked it, he would have prohibited it.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَرَأَ خَلْفَهُ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ قَالُوا رَجُلٌ قَالَ قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

Which of you did recite the surah “ Glorify the name of thy lord, the Most High”(Surah lxxxvii.) A man said: I . He said: I knew that some one of you confused me in it(i.e in the recitation of the Qur’an).

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمُ الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا انْفَتَلَ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

"The Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr and a man behind him recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. When he had finished praying, he said: 'Who recited: Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High?" A man said: 'I did.' He said: 'I realized that some of you were disputing with me over it'".

صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ فَقَرَأَ رَجُلٌ خَلْفَهُ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ مَنْ قَرَأَ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ قَدْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

"Yahya bin Sa'eed narrated to us from Shu'bah, from Qatadah, from Zurarah, from Imran bin Husain, who said The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr, and a man recited 'Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High.' When he finished praying, he said: 'Who recited: 'Glorify the Name of Your Lord, the Most High?' A man said: 'I did.' He said: 'I knew that someone was competing with me in it.'"

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ فَقَرَأَ رَجُلٌ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ مَنْ قَرَأَ بِ { سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى } قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَهُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the Dhuhr prayer, and after finishing it, he said, "Who amongst you recited Surah Sabbih? (i.e., Surah Al-A'la)?" Some of the people said, "I did, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Indeed, I knew that some of you had recited it with me."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَرَأَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟ » فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] A man read behind the Prophet ﷺ during Dhuhr or Asr prayer. Abu Awana doubted, so he said, "Which one of you has recited 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High'?" A man from the people said, "It was me." Abu Awana then said, "I knew that some of you has mixed with her."

قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ شَكَّ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟ » فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ prayed Dhuhr with his companions. After he finished his prayer, he asked, "Which of you recited Surah Al-A'la (Chapter 87)?" Some of the people said, "I did, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "I knew that some of you had recited it."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ prayed Duhr prayer with his companions and then said, "Who among you has recited Surah Al-A'la (Chapter 87)?" A man said, "I have." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I knew that a man had been inspired to recite it."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed one of the evening prayers with us, either Dhuhr or Asr. He asked, "Which one of you recited Surah Al-Ala (Chapter 87) in the prayer?" A man said, "I did." The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said, "I knew that someone had recited it to me."

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِحْدَى صَلَاتِي الْعَشِيِّ إِمَّا الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed the Dhuhr prayer. And when he finished, he said, "Which one of you recited 'SubhanAllahi al-A'la'?" A man said, "I did, O Messenger of Allah." So he said, "I knew that someone amongst you had stepped out of the prayer."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the noon prayer and when he finished, he said, "Which one of you recited 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High'?" A man from the people said, "I thought that someone else had recited it."

"عَنْ عِمْرَان بن حُصَيْن أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ صلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ الظَّهْر، فَلَمَّا سَلَّم قَالَ: هَلْ قَرَأَ أَحَدٌ منِكُم بِسَبح اسمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى؟ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: أَنَا، فَقَالَ: قَدْ علمْت أَنَّ بَعْضَكُم خَالَجَنيَها، وَفِى لَفْظٍ فَقَالَ: قَدْ قَلْتُ مَالِى أُنَازَعُها، فَنَهَى عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ الإمَامِ. وَضَعَّفُوا هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةَ".
