Two men sneezed in the presence of the prophet (May peace be upon him). He said : Allah have mercy on you! To one and not to the other. He was asked: Messenger of Allah! Two persons sneezed. Ahmad’s version has: You invoked a blessing on one of them and left the other. He replied : This man praised Allah, and this man did not praise Allah.  

أبو داود:٥٠٣٩ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ الْمَعْنَى قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

bukhari:6221 – Muḥammad b. Kathīr > Sufyān > Sulaymān > Anas b. Mālik

Two men sneezed before the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ said to one of them, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on you," but he did not say that to the other. On being asked (why), the Prophet ﷺ said, "That one praised Allah (at the time of sneezing), while the other did not praise Allah."

bukhari:6225 – Ādam b. Abū Iyās > Shuʿbah > Sulaymān al-Taymī > Anas

Two men sneezed before the Prophet ﷺ and he said Tashmit to one of them, while he did not say Tashmit to the other. So that man said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You said Tashmit to that fellow but you did not say Tashmit to me. "The Prophet ﷺ said, "That man praised Allah, but you did not praise Allah."  

البخاري:٦٢٢٥ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ؓ يَقُولُ عَطَسَ رَجُلاَنِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَلَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ

So and so sneezed and you said: May Allah have mercy upon you. I also sneezed but you did not utter these words for me. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: That person praised Allah, and you did not praise Allah.  

مسلم:٢٩٩١a – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلاَنِ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ عَطَسَ فُلاَنٌ فَشَمَّتَّهُ وَعَطَسْتُ أَنَا فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ

"Two men sneezed in he presence of the Prophet ﷺ and he replied (said: YarhamukAllah; may Allah have mercy on you') to one and not to the other. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, two men sneezed in your presence and you replied to one and not to the other?' He said: "'This one praised Allah(said Al-Hamdulillah fter sneezing) but that one did not.'"

ahmad:11962 – Muʿtamir b. Sulaymān from my father > Anas b. Mālik Ḥasibtuh

[Machine] A man sneezed in front of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , and the other man praised him (the man who sneezed) by saying "May Allah have mercy on you." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "When one of you sneezes and praises Allah, let him say 'May Allah guide you and rectify your condition' (to the one who sneezed)."  

أحمد:١١٩٦٢ – حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ

عَطَسَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلَانِ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ قَالَ سَمَّتَ وَتَرَكَ الْآخَرَ فَقِيلَ رَجُلَانِ عَطَسَ أَحَدُهُمَا فَشَمَّتَّهُ وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَاحَمِدَ اللهَ ﷻ  

ahmad:12167 – Yaḥyá > al-Taymī > Anas

[Machine] Two men sneezed in front of the Prophet ﷺ, and one of them received blessings or was praised. It was said to him, "These two men sneezed, and you praised or blessed only one of them?" He replied, "Indeed, this one praised Allah, and that one did not praise Allah." Yahya said, "And perhaps he said this or something similar."  

أحمد:١٢١٦٧ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَوْ سَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا فَقيلَ لَهُ رَجُلَانِ عَطِسَا فَشَمَّتَّ أَوْ سَمَّتَّ أَحَدَهُمَا ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللهَ وَإِنَّ ذَاكَ لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللهَ قَالَ يَحْيَى وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوَهُ  

darimi:2702 – Aḥmad b. ʿAbdullāh > Zuhayr > Sulaymān > Anas

"Two men sneezed in he presence of the Prophet ﷺ and he replied (said: YarhamukAllah; may Allah have mercy on you') to one and not to the other. عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ» قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ «سُلَيْمَانُ هُوَ التَّيْمِيُّ»

[Machine] Two men sneezed in front of the Prophet ﷺ , and one of them said "Alhamdulillah" (praise be to Allah), while the other did not say it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, this one praised Allah, and this one did not."

الكبرى للنسائي:٩٩٧٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ أَنْبَأَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ وَأَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَتَرَكَ الْآخِرَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَطَسَ عِنْدَكَ رَجُلَانِ فَشَمَّتَّ أَحَدَهُمَا وَتَرَكْتَ الْآخِرَ؟ فَقَالَ «إنَّ» هَذَا حَمِدَ اللهَ وَإنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللهُ وَاللَّفْظُ لِعِمْرَانَ
