that two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ; he responded to one of them and did not respond to the other. The one who was not responded to said: "O Messenger of Allah! You responded to this person and did not respond to me?' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "He praised Allah while you did not praise Him."  

الترمذي:٢٧٤٢ – حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ عَطَسَا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّهُ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

Two men sneezed before the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ said to one of them, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on you," but he did not say that to the other. On being asked (why), the Prophet ﷺ said, "That one praised Allah (at the time of sneezing), while the other did not praise Allah."  

البخاري:٦٢٢١ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ

Two men sneezed before the Prophet ﷺ and he said Tashmit to one of them, while he did not say Tashmit to the other. So that man said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You said Tashmit to that fellow but you did not say Tashmit to me. "The Prophet ﷺ said, "That man praised Allah, but you did not praise Allah."  

البخاري:٦٢٢٥ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ؓ يَقُولُ عَطَسَ رَجُلاَنِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَلَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ  

muslim:2991a – Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr > Ḥafṣ / Ibn Ghiyāth > Sulaymān al-Taymī > Anas b. Mālik

So and so sneezed and you said: May Allah have mercy upon you. I also sneezed but you did not utter these words for me. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: That person praised Allah, and you did not praise Allah.  

مسلم:٢٩٩١a – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلاَنِ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ عَطَسَ فُلاَنٌ فَشَمَّتَّهُ وَعَطَسْتُ أَنَا فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ

"Two men sneezed in he presence of the Prophet ﷺ and he replied (said: YarhamukAllah; may Allah have mercy on you') to one and not to the other. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, two men sneezed in your presence and you replied to one and not to the other?' He said: "'This one praised Allah(said Al-Hamdulillah fter sneezing) but that one did not.'"  

ابن ماجة:٣٧١٣ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ رَجُلاَنِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ سَمَّتَ وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَطَسَ عِنْدَكَ رَجُلاَنِ فَشَمَّتَّ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتِ الآخَرَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ  

darimi:2702 – Aḥmad b. ʿAbdullāh > Zuhayr > Sulaymān > Anas

"Two men sneezed in he presence of the Prophet ﷺ and he replied (said: YarhamukAllah; may Allah have mercy on you') to one and not to the other. الدارمي:٢٧٠٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ» قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ «سُلَيْمَانُ هُوَ التَّيْمِيُّ»  

ذِكْرُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَى الْمَرْءِ تَرْكِ التَّشْمِيتِ لِلْعَاطِسِ، إِذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ

ibnhibban:601 – al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Musaddad b. Musarhad > Ibn Abū ʿAdī > Sulaymān al-Taymī > Anas b. Mālik

Two men sneezed in the presence of the prophet (May peace be upon him). He said : Allah have mercy on you! To one and not to the other. He was asked: Messenger of Allah! Two persons sneezed. Ahmad’s version has: You invoked a blessing on one of them and left the other. He replied : This man praised Allah, and this man did not praise Allah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5039)   

ابن حبّان:٦٠١ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ قَالَ فَسَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ رَجُلَانِ عَطَسَا فَشَمَّتَّ أَحَدَهُمَا وَتَرَكْتَ الْآخَرَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدْهُ»
