The men who beat their wives are not the best among you

abudawud:2146 – Aḥmad b. Abū Khalaf And ʾAḥmad b. ʿAmr b. al-Sarḥ > Sufyān > al-Zuhrī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbdullāh > Ibn al-Sarḥ ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh > Iyās b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Dhubāb

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Do not beat the female servants of Allah.” Then Umar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “The women have become emboldened against their husbands,” so he granted permission to beat them.

Then many women went around to the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining about their husbands. So the Prophet ﷺ said, “Many women have gone around to the family of Muhammad complaining about their husbands; those men are not the best among you.”  

أبو داود:٢١٤٦ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي خَلَفٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ ابْنُ السَّرْحِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لاَ تَضْرِبُوا إِمَاءَ اللَّهِ» فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: ذَئِرْنَ النِّسَاءُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ، فَرَخَّصَ فِي ضَرْبِهِنَّ۔

فَأَطَافَ بِآلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نِسَاءٌ كَثِيرٌ يَشْكُونَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «لَقَدْ طَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ نِسَاءٌ كَثِيرٌ يَشْكُونَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ، لَيْسَ أُولَئِكَ بِخِيَارِكُمْ۔»

"The Prophet said: 'Do not beat the female slaves of Allah.' Then 'Umar came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the woman have become bold towards their husbands? So order the beatin g of them,' and they were beaten. Then many women went around to the family of Muhammad,. The next day he said: 'Last night seventy women came to the family of Muhammad, each woman complaining about her husband. You will not find that those are the best of you.' "  

ابن ماجة:١٩٨٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ تَضْرِبُوا إِمَاءَ اللَّهِ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ ذَئِرَ النِّسَاءُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ فَأْمُرْ بِضَرْبِهِنَّ فَضُرِبْنَ فَطَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ طَائِفُ نِسَاءٍ كَثِيرٍ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ لَقَدْ طَافَ اللَّيْلَةَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ سَبْعُونَ امْرَأَةً كُلُّ امْرَأَةٍ تَشْتَكِي زَوْجَهَا فَلاَ تَجِدُونَ أُولَئِكَ خِيَارَكُمْ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not hit the female servants of Allah." Then Umar came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, women have become defiant towards their husbands." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted permission for them to be struck. He then went around the household of Muhammad ﷺ and found seventy women, all of whom complained about their husbands. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are not the best among you."  

الحاكم:٢٧٧٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَضْرِبُوا إِمَاءَ اللَّهِ» فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ ذَئِرْنَ النِّسَاءُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ فَأَذِنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَضْرِبُوهُنَّ قَالَ فَأَطَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ سَبْعُونَ امْرَأَةً كُلُّهُنَّ يَشْتَكِينَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ أُولَئِكَ خِيَارُكُمْ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَلَهُ شَاهِدٌ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومِ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍصحيح

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not beat the female servants of Allah." So 'Umar came and said, "Women have started rebelling against their husbands, so give permission to beat them." And many of the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ surrounded the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Prophet ﷺ said, "The family of Muhammad has surrounded him tonight, seventy women, all of whom are complaining about their husbands. And you will not find those to be the best among you."  

الكبرى للنسائي:٩١٢٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ
