إِياْسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ

tabarani:786 – ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal > ʿĪsá b. Sālim al-Shāshī > Ibn al-Mubārak > Muḥammad b. Abū Ḥafṣah > al-Zuhrī > ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah > Iyās b. Abū Dhubāb

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not beat the female slaves of Allah." So they stopped beating them. Then Umar came and said, "By Allah, the women have become bold with their husbands." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that they be beaten. He went around the family of Muhammad ﷺ and there were many women there. When morning came, he said, "The family of Muhammad ﷺ has been visited by seventy women this night, all of whom complain about being beaten. By Allah, I do not think these (women) are the best among you."  

الطبراني:٧٨٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ سَالِمٍ الشَّاشِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَضْرِبُوا إِمَاءَ اللهِ» فَتَرَكُوا ضَرْبَهُنَّ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ ذَئِرَ النِّسَاءُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِضَرْبِهِنَّ فَأَطَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ نِسَاءٌ كَثِيرٌ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ «لَقَدْ طَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ اللَّيْلَةَ سَبْعُونَ امْرَأَةً كُلُّهُنَّ يَشْتَكِي الضَّرْبَ وَايْمُ اللهِ مَا أَحْسَبُ أُولَئِكَ خِيَارَكُمْ»

"The Prophet said: 'Do not beat the female slaves of Allah.' Then 'Umar came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the woman have become bold towards their husbands? So order the beatin g of them,' and they were beaten. Then many women went around to the family of Muhammad,. The next day he said: 'Last night seventy women came to the family of Muhammad, each woman complaining about her husband. You will not find that those are the best of you.' "  

ابن ماجة:١٩٨٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ تَضْرِبُوا إِمَاءَ اللَّهِ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ ذَئِرَ النِّسَاءُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ فَأْمُرْ بِضَرْبِهِنَّ فَضُرِبْنَ فَطَافَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ طَائِفُ نِسَاءٍ كَثِيرٍ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ لَقَدْ طَافَ اللَّيْلَةَ بِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ سَبْعُونَ امْرَأَةً كُلُّ امْرَأَةٍ تَشْتَكِي زَوْجَهَا فَلاَ تَجِدُونَ أُولَئِكَ خِيَارَكُمْ

Do not beat Allah's handmaidens, but when Umar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Women have become emboldened towards their husbands, he (the Prophet) gave permission to beat them. Then many women came round the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining against their husbands. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Many women have gone round Muhammad's family complaining against their husbands. They are not the best among you. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2146)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not hit the female servants of Allah." Then Umar came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, women have become defiant towards their husbands." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted permission for them to be struck. He then went around the household of Muhammad ﷺ and found seventy women, all of whom complained about their husbands. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are not the best among you."  

الحاكم:٢٧٧٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not beat the female slaves of Allah." Then the women rebelled and their behavior towards their husbands worsened. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, the women rebelled and their behavior towards their husbands worsened since you forbade beating them." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then beat them." The people beat their wives that night, and many women came complaining about being beaten. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the next morning, "Seventy women of the family of Muhammad were visited last night, all of whom were complaining about being beaten. By Allah, you will not find those [men] among the best of you."  

الطبراني:٧٨٤ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ؓ قَالَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not beat the female servants of Allah." So 'Umar came and said, "Women have started rebelling against their husbands, so give permission to beat them." And many of the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ surrounded the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Prophet ﷺ said, "The family of Muhammad has surrounded him tonight, seventy women, all of whom are complaining about their husbands. And you will not find those to be the best among you."  

الكبرى للنسائي:٩١٢٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ قَالَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not beat the female slaves of Allah." So they were given permission and they started to beat them. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went around among the women, and there were many women with him. He said, "Tonight, seventy women from the family of Muhammad have gone around complaining about their husbands. You will not find those among the best of you."  

البيهقي:١٤٧٨١ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنا أَبُو حَامِدِ بْنُ بِلَالٍ نا يَحْيَى بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ نا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ ؓ قَالَ
