Allah's Apostle ﷺ kept standing in prayer (for such long hours) that his feet were swollen. They (his Companions) said: Verily, Allah has pardoned for thee the earlier and the later of thine sins. Thereupon he said: Should I not prove myself to be a grateful servant (of Allah)? (Using translation from Muslim 2819b)

She said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray four units of prayer at night and then he would do tawarruk (resting briefly) until I had mercy on him. So I said, 'May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah, Allah has forgiven you for your past sins and your future sins.' He said, 'Should I not be a grateful slave?' Al-Mughirah ibn Ziyad narrated this exclusively, and although his narration is not strong, his statement 'and then he would do tawarruk' is the basis for the practice of the Imam in the Taraweeh prayer. And Allah knows best.'"

suyuti:673-104b

When it was the night of the middle of Shaban, the Prophet ﷺ slipped out from beneath my cloak—meaning Aishah’s cloak. By Allah, it was not made of striped cloth, nor of silk, nor of linen, nor of cotton, nor of wool; rather, its warp was of hair, though its weft was of camel hair. I thought to myself that he might have gone to one of his wives, so I said, “Let me look for him in the house.” Then my hand fell upon his feet while he was in prostration, and I memorized from his supplication as he was saying:

“I prostrate to You with my darkness and my shadow, and my heart believes in You. I acknowledge to You Your blessings, and I confess to You my sin. I have wronged myself, so forgive me; indeed none forgives the tremendous sin except You. I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment; I seek refuge in Your mercy from Your wrath; I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure; and I seek refuge in You from You. Exalted is Your Face; I cannot enumerate praise of You. You are as You have praised Yourself.”

He continued standing and sitting until morning came, and morning came while his feet had become swollen. I said, “May my father and my mother be sacrificed for you—has Allah not forgiven you your past sins and your future ones?” He said: “O Aishah, should I not be a grateful servant? Do you know what is in this night?” I said, “What is in it?” He said: “In it, every child to be born in this year is written; in it, every one who will die is written; in it, their provisions are sent down; and in it, their deeds are raised.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, does no one enter Paradise except by Allah’s mercy?” He said: “Yes.” I said, “Not even you?” He said: “Not even I—unless Allah envelops me in His mercy.” Then he wiped his hand over his head down to his face.

While Ibn ʿUmar was performing the Tawaf (around the Kaʿba), a man came up to him and said, "O Abu ʿAbdurRahman!" or said, "O Ibn ʿUmar! Did you hear anything from the Prophet ﷺ about An35 Najwa?" Ibn ʿUmar said, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'The Believer will be brought near his Lord." (Hisham, a sub-narrator said, reporting the Prophet's words), "The believer will come near (his Lord) till his Lord covers him with His screen and makes him confess his sins. (Allah will ask him), 'Do you know (that you did) 'such-and-such sin?" He will say twice, 'Yes, I do.' Then Allah will say, 'I concealed it in the world and I forgive it for you today.' Then the record of his good deeds will be folded up. As for the others, or the disbelievers, it will be announced publicly before the witnesses: 'These are ones who lied against their Lord."

How did you hear Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying something about intimate conversation? He said: I heard him say: A believer will be brought to his Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, on the Day of Resurrection and He would place upon him His veil (of Light) and make him confess his faults and say: Do you recognise (your faults)? He would say: My Lord, I do recognise (them). He (the Lord) would say: I concealed them for you in the world. And today I forgive them. And he would then be given the Book containing (the account of his) good deeds. And so far as the non-believers and hypocrites are concerned, there would be general announcement about them before all creation telling them that these (people, i. e. non-believers and hypocrites) told a lie about Allah.

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying in a confidential conversation on the Day of Resurrection. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Indeed, Allah, the Almighty, brings the believer near and covers him with His screen, concealing him from the people, and firmly establishes his sins, then He says to him, 'Do you recognize this sin? Do you recognize that sin?' He continues to mention his sins until the believer acknowledges all his sins. When Allah has established his sins and the believer sees himself doomed, he says, 'I have concealed them for you in the world, and I forgive them for you today.' Then the believer is given the book of his good deeds. As for the disbelievers and hypocrites, the witnesses will say, 'These are the ones who lied against their Lord. Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.'" (Surah Hud 18)

While I was walking with Ibn ʿUmar holding his hand, a man came in front of us and asked, "What have you heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ about An-Najwa?" Ibn ʿUmar said, "I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Allah will bring a believer near Him and shelter him with His Screen and ask him: Did you commit such-and-such sins? He will say: Yes, my Lord. Allah will keep on asking him till he will confess all his sins and will think that he is ruined. Allah will say: 'I did screen your sins in the world and I forgive them for you today', and then he will be given the book of his good deeds. Regarding infidels and hypocrites (their evil acts will be exposed publicly) and the witnesses will say: These are the people who lied against their Lord. Behold! The Curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers." (11.18) (Using translation from Bukhārī 2441)

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "If somebody commits a sin and then says, 'O my Lord! I have sinned, please forgive me!' and his Lord says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sins).' Then he remains without committing any sin for a while and then again commits another sin and says, 'O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,' and Allah says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sin). Then he remains without Committing any another sin for a while and then commits another sin (for the third time) and says, 'O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,' and Allah says, 'My slave has known that he has a Lord Who forgives sins and punishes for it I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sin), he can do whatever he likes."

The Prophet ﷺ related, narrating from his Lord ﷻ, that a servant committed a sin and said, "O Allah, forgive my sin." Allah said, "My servant committed a sin and knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and takes to account for the sin." Then the servant returned and sinned again and said, "O Lord, forgive my sin." Then the servant returned once more and sinned and said, "O Lord, forgive my sin." Allah said, "My servant committed a sin and knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and takes to account for the sin. Do whatever you wish, for I have forgiven you." The three men who wanted to perform excessive worship

bukhari:5063Saʿīd b. Abū Maryam > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Ḥumayd b. Abū Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl > Anas b. Mālik

A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ asking how the worship of Prophet ﷺ was. When they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient. They said, "Where are we from the Prophet ﷺ as his past and future sins have been forgiven?" Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever."

Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more in awe of Allah and more conscious of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I pray and I sleep and I marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah (tradition) is not from me."

A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ asking how the Prophet ﷺ worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, "Where are we from the Prophet ﷺ as his past and future sins have been forgiven." Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever." Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers). (Using translation from Bukhārī 5063)
