[Machine] "A man said, 'O Abu Firās, who is this?' So Faraḍaq replied."
[Machine] Ali said, "Shall I not tell you about the special qualities of myself and my family?" We said, "Yes." He said, "As for Hasan, he is a companion of generosity and goodness. And as for Abdullah bin Ja'far, he is a companion of amusement and falsehood. Do not be deceived by the sons of Abbas. As for me and Husain, we are from you and you are from us. By Allah, I feared that these people would divert you with their righteousness in their land and your corruption in your land, with their fulfillment of trusts and your betrayal, with their obedience to their leader and your disobedience to him, with their unity on falsehood and your division on truth, until their power becomes long-lasting, and they do not prohibit anything that Allah has forbidden, and nothing remains of honor and virtue unless their oppression enters into it. And until one of you becomes a follower of theirs, and until the support of one of you from them is like the support of a slave from his master, when he witnesses his obedience to him, and when he is absent from him, he slanders him. And until the richest among you is the most impoverished in terms of his reliance on Allah, and the best among you in Allah's eyes is the one who has the best opinion of Allah. So if Allah brings you ease, accept it. And if you are afflicted, be patient, for indeed, the final outcome is for the righteous."
[Machine] We were sitting with Ali, and they mentioned his family, so Ali said, "As for Hasan, his presence alone will not be enough for you in battle, he is as weak as the thread of a sparrow, and as for Abdullah ibn Jafar, he is just a shadow and a betrayer. But as for Hussain, he is one of you, and you are from him."
[Machine] Muawiyah died in the month of Rajab, after four nights had passed. Yazid was appointed as his successor for two years. In the year 61, Husayn ibn Ali and his companions were killed, for ten nights, starting from the first day of Muharram, until the day of Ashura. Abbas ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib and his mother Umm al-Banin Amiriyya, Ja'far ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abdullah ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, Uthman ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abu Bakr ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, and his mother Layla bint Mas'ud Nahshalyya, Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (the eldest), and his mother Layla Thaqafiyya, Abdullah ibn al-Husayn and his mother Rabbab bint Imru' al-Qays Kalbiyya, Abu Bakr ibn al-Husayn, Qasim ibn al-Hasan, Awn ibn Abdullah ibn Jafar ibn Abi Talib, Ja'far ibn Aqil ibn Abi Talib, Muslim ibn Aqil ibn Abi Talib, Sulaiman, a servant of Husayn, and Abdullah, the infant of Husayn, were all killed. Husayn himself was killed at the age of 58.
[Machine] Hussein bin Ali was killed when he was fifty-eight years old.
[Machine] Indeed, he was killed along with seventeen of those who sought refuge in the sanctuary of Fatimah.
[Machine] "He was captured, so they fought him and killed him, as well as his sons and his companions who fought with him in a place called Taff. Then Ali ibn Husayn, Fatimah bint Husayn, and Sukaynah bint Husayn were taken to Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad. Ali at that time was a young boy who had reached maturity, so he sent them to Yazid ibn Muawiyah. He ordered Sukaynah to be placed behind his bed so that she would not see the heads of her father and relatives. Ali ibn Husayn was in shackles, so he rested his head and struck it on the thighs of Husayn."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hussein ibn Ali will be killed at the head of sixty of my followers who migrated."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Al-Hussein will be killed when the tawny one rises." Abu Al-Qasim said, "The tawny one is the gray-haired man."
[Machine] Ali was killed when he was fifty-eight years old, Hussein was killed when he was fifty-eight years old, and Ali ibn Hussein died when he was fifty-eight years old.
[Machine] He traveled with Ali, and when he reached Nineveh, he said, "Be patient, O Abu Abdullah, be patient at the banks of the Euphrates." I asked, "And what is that?" He said, "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day and his eyes were overflowing. So I said, 'Has anyone angered you, O Messenger of Allah? Why do I see your eyes overflowing?' He stood up and Gabriel ﷺ came to me and informed me that my nation will kill my son Husayn. Then he said, 'Would you like me to show you his burial place?' I said, 'Yes.' So he extended his hand and grabbed [some soil], and when I saw it, my eyes couldn't hold back their tears."
[Machine] "What is the name of this land?" It was said, "Karbala." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, it is the land of grief and affliction."
[Machine] The King of Qatar sought permission from his Lord to visit the Prophet ﷺ , so he granted him permission. The King came to him while he was in the house of Umm Salamah and said, "O Umm Salamah, keep the door closed so that no one enters." While they were at the door, Al-Hussein came and opened the door. He began jumping on the back of the Prophet ﷺ , and the Prophet ﷺ embraced him and kissed him. The King asked him, "Do you love him, O Muhammad?" He said, "Yes." The king then said, "Your nation will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you some soil from the place he will be killed." The Prophet ﷺ agreed, so the king took a handful of soil from the place where he would be killed. He brought it to him, and Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her lap. Thabit said, "We used to say that it was Karbala."
[Machine] Hussein bin Ali entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was being inspired, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at him while he was on his shoulders and playing on his back. Gabriel said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Do you love him, O Muhammad?" He said, "O Gabriel, why should I not love my son?" He said, "Indeed, your Ummah will kill him after you." So Gabriel extended his hand towards the Prophet ﷺ with a white soil, saying, "In this land, your son will be killed, O Muhammad, and its name is Taff." When Gabriel left, the Prophet ﷺ went out holding the soil in his hand and crying. He said, "O Aisha, Gabriel informed me that my son Husayn will be killed in the land of Taff, and that my Ummah will be fragmented after me." Then he went out to his companions, among them were Ali, Abu Bakr, Umar, Hudhayfah, Ammar, and Abu Dharr, and he was crying. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what makes you cry?" He said, "Gabriel informed me that my son Husayn will be killed after me in the land of Taff, and he brought me this soil also and informed me that it is his resting place."
[Machine] That Al-Hussein ibn Ali entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Prophet ﷺ said to Aisha, "Doesn't it amaze you? An angel has entered upon me unexpectedly, and he said, 'My son (Hussein) will be killed. If you wish, I will show you the soil in which he will be killed.' So the angel took some red soil in his hand and showed it to me."
[Machine] Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn were playing in front of the Prophet ﷺ in my house when Gabriel descended and said, "O Muhammad, your nation will kill your son after you." So, the Prophet ﷺ pointed to Al-Husayn with his hand and started to weep, hugging him to his chest. Then, the Prophet ﷺ said, "This soil will bear witness for you." So, the Prophet ﷺ smelled it and said, "Woe to Karb and affliction." Um Salama said, "O Messenger of Allah, when this soil turns into blood, then know that my son has been killed." She put it in a container and would look at it every day, saying, "Indeed, there will come a day when you will turn into blood, a tremendous day."
[Machine] "And she said, 'They killed him, may Allah damn and humiliate them for killing him"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in my house one day and said, "No one should enter upon me." So, I waited and then Husain entered. I heard the weeping of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so I looked and saw Husain in his lap and the Prophet ﷺ wiping his forehead while crying. I said, "By Allah, I did not know the reason when he entered." He said, "Indeed, Jibril (Gabriel) was with us in the house and he asked me, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'Yes, as for this world, then yes.' He said, 'Your nation will kill him in a land called Karbala.' Then Jibril ﷺ handed me some of its soil and showed it to me. So when Husain was surrounded and killed, he asked, 'What is the name of this land?' They said, 'Karbala.' He said, 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. Karbala is a land of grief and affliction.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Sit by the door and no one should enter upon me." So I stood by the door when Al-Hussein came, and I went to fetch him, but the young boy went in before me and entered upon his grandfather. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, may Allah sacrifice me for you, you ordered me that no one should enter upon you, and yet your son has come and I went to fetch him, but the young boy entered before me." When a long time passed, I looked out of the door and found you turning something in your hands and tears flowing, with the child on your chest. You said, "Yes, Jibril came to me and informed me that my ummah will kill him, and he brought me the soil on which he will be killed. It is this soil that I am turning in my hands."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once lay down and woke up while holding red soil in his hand. I asked him, "What is this soil, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Jibril informed me that this is the earth where Hussein will be killed in Iraq." I then asked Jibril, "Show me the soil of the Earth where he will be killed." So this is its soil.
[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while lying on his side during midday, with messy hair and dust on his hand. He had a bottle containing blood, so I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is this?" He replied, "It is the blood of Al-Husayn and his companions, which I have been gathering since that day." When the day was counted, it was found that he had been killed on that day.
[Machine] I accompanied Ali until he reached Kufa. He climbed the pulpit and praised and thanked God. Then he said, "How would you react when the progeny of your prophet resides among you?" They said, "We would show them noble treatment," so he said, "By the one in whose hand my life is, they will come among you and you will fight alongside them and kill them." Then he continued saying...
[Machine] "Hussein will be killed, and I know the exact place where he will be killed, near the rivers."
[Machine] I was with Ali bin Abi Talib by the banks of the river in Karbala, when he passed by a tree under which was a herd of deer. He took a handful from it and sniffed it, then he said, "Seventy thousand will enter Paradise without any reckoning from this scent."
[Machine] I witnessed Ali when he arrived in Karbala and said, "There will be martyrs in this place, and there are no martyrs like the martyrs of Badr." I expressed doubt about some of his statements, and then a dead donkey appeared. I told my servant to take the leg of this donkey and place it on his seat, and hide it. Time passed, and when Husayn bin Ali was killed, I left with my companions. Suddenly, I saw the body of Husayn bin Ali on the leg of that donkey, while his companions were surrounding him.
[Machine] We hear that the son of a prophet is being killed in Karbala, so whenever I entered it, I would ride my horse swiftly until I passed by it. But when Husayn was killed, I became a captive after that in their appearance.
[Machine] The passage translates to: "Hajjaj said to him, 'Indeed, the two of you will never meet in one place.'"
[Machine] I heard Abu Raja Al-Attaridi say, "Do not curse Ali or the people of this house, for our neighbor from Balhujaym said, 'Have you not seen this sinful person, Al-Husayn bin Ali, whom Allah killed and threw two stars in his eyes, so Allah blinded his vision?'"
"When the heads of 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad and his companions were brought, they were stacked in the Masjid at Ar-Rahbah. So I came to them and they were saying: 'It has come, it has come." And behold, there was a snake going between the heads, until it entered the nostrils of 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad, and it remained there momentarily, then left and went until it had disappeared. Then they said: 'It has come, it has come.' So it did that two or three times." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3780)
[Machine] It is as if men have descended from the sky with swords, tracking the killers of Hussain. The Mokhtar arrived and did not delay, as he killed them.
[Machine] "When Al-Hussein ibn Ali was killed, every stone in the house of Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) was lifted and found to have foolish blood underneath."
[Machine] Hussein ibn Ali was killed, and I, that day, was a young girl named Juwairiyah. The sky remained cloudy for several days.
[Machine] "When Al-Hussein was killed, the sky turned red." I asked, "What are you saying?" He replied, "Indeed, the liar is a hypocrite. The sky turned red when he was killed."
[Machine] "After the killing of Hussein, we stayed for seven days. When we prayed the afternoon prayer, we looked at the sun on the edges of the walls as if they were yellow silk. And we looked at the stars hitting each other."
[Machine] "There was no redness in the sky until Al-Hussein was killed."
[Machine] A man threw a stone at Husain while he was drinking, causing his cup to break. Husain said, "May Allah not allow me to see you." The man replied, "Then he continued drinking until he broke his fast."
[Machine] "What you see of the situation has already occurred, and the world has changed and transformed. Its good has retreated, and it has continued until there is nothing left of it except the remnants of a vessel. It is a wretched life, like the grazing of cattle. Don't you see that the truth is not acted upon, and falsehood is not abandoned? So that the believer desires to meet Allah. And indeed, I do not see death except as happiness, and life with the oppressors except as torment." And Al-Husayn was killed on the day of Ashura in the year sixty, in the land of Karbala, wearing a torn black cloak. He was the son of fifty-six.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ pledged allegiance to Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, Abdullah Ibn Abbas, and Abdullah Ibn Ja'far, even though they were young and had not reached the age of maturity. He said, "No one should pledge allegiance to a young person except from among us."
[Machine] Hussein ﷺ performed twenty-five Hajj pilgrimages on foot.
[Machine] The body of Husayn resembled the body of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .
[Machine] That Hussein had gone to Kufa and that your time has been tested with it among other times, and your country among other countries, and you have been tested with it among other workers. And at that time, he is either freed or returns as a slave, just as slaves are treated. So Abdullah ibn Ziyad killed him, and sent his head to him. And when it was placed before him, he imitated the words of Hussain bin Humam.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ left Aisha's house and passed by Fatimah's house, where he heard Hussain crying. He said, "Did you not know that his crying hurts me?"
[Machine] When the weight of Husayn ibn Ali was placed on Yazid ibn Muawiya and his head was placed between his hands, Yazid cried and said: [translation of the passage into English]
[Machine] "O Allah, let it be dragged into the Fire." So, the creature fled from him and its leg got stuck in the stirrup. He said, "By Allah, nothing is left on it except its leg."
[Machine] "No, that is the garment of one who has been humiliated," so he took a robe and tore it, and placed it underneath his clothes. When he was killed, they stripped him naked.
[Machine] Ali passed by Ka'b and said, "A man from the offspring of this person will be killed in a band, whose horses' sweat will not dry until they reach Muhammad ﷺ."
Then, Hassan passed by and they said, "Is this, O Abu Ishaq?" He said, "No."
Then, Husayn passed by and they said, "Is this?" He said, "Yes."
