"A Man from the Ansar freed six slaves of his upon his death, and he did not have any wealth aside from them. That was conveyed to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said some harsh words about him." He said: "Then he called for them and he divided them and had them draw lots. So he freed two of them and left four as slaves."

He said: "I was thinking of not offering the funeral prapyer for him." Then he called the slaves and divided them into three groups. He cast lost among them, then freed two and left four as slaves.

[AI] A man who had enslaved six people before his death, came and his heirs, who were from the Bedouins, informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what he had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Did he really do that?" They replied, "If only we knew, by the will of Allah, we would not have prayed for him." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rebuked them and emancipated two of the slaves, then returned the remaining four to their masters.

Malik related to me from Yahya ibn Said and somebody else from al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Basri and from Muhammad ibn Sirin that a man in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ freed six of his slaves while he was dying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew lots between them and freed a third of those slaves. Malik added that he had heard that the man did not have any property other than them.

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ أَعْبُدٍ فِي مَرَضِهِ «فَأَقْرَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً»

الْحَسَنُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ
[AI] A man from the Ansar freed six slaves upon his death, and he did not possess anything other than them. This news reached the Prophet ﷺ , so he summoned them and distributed them, freeing two and returning four to servitude.
أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَعْتَقَ رُءُوسًا سِتَّةً عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَمْلِكَ غَيْرَهَمْ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «فَدَعَاهُمْ فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَجَازَ اثْنَيْنِ وَرَدَّ أَرْبَعَةً فِي الرِّقِّ»
مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ

[AI] A man who freed six slaves and then his heirs came and did not find anything, so they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. He said, "If I had known that, I would not have prayed upon him, if Allah wills." Then he mentioned six names amongst them and freed two and borrowed four.
أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ أَعْبُدٍ فَجَاءَ وَرَثَتُهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا شَيْئًا فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ «لَوْ عَلِمْتُ ذَاكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ مَا صَلَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ» فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَاسْتَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً
[AI] A man had freed a slave at his death, and his heirs from the Arab tribes came and informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about what he had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Why did he do that?" So, he struck a deal between them and freed two slaves, and returned four to bondage.

«أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ أَعْبُدٍ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً»
